Speaking for take-out only, it makes me very sad to write this review. As Masa is the only local sushi place I order here about 2-3 times a month & initially they were great! But over the last 2 years the portions, quality and just attention to detail have gone horribly down hill. Little things like Salads with just lettuce, no carrots or cucumber. I ordered a sweet potato roll that was the teeniest sliver of potato, and essentially just a tempura and rice roll. I hope they put in the effort to make sushi like they used to so they can keep their customers. read more

It was okay. We really love sushi and wouldn't call ourselves hard to please at all. We got the 3 roll lunch deal and got the trio of spicy options. The rolls were very thin and not much fish. I also was disappointed to see that they use the fake pink ginger and the dab of wasabi was almost non existent on the plate. Also did not like their ginger salad dressing and my salad greens were all pale white/light green which is not appetizing. No other veggies on the salad either - just strange white lettuce. The sushi was so over priced! I paid $17 for one small roll not even close to my expectations, very small portion size. The price was not listed on the menu but I assumed it was going to be something priced as their special rolls which were priced around $12. On top of that they served my guest avocado in their roll which he was allergic to and was not listed in the roll in the menu, had to be sent back. If your hungry don't eat here. Thank god for the Burger King across the street. Been eating sushi for 20 years and this is the smallest portions I've ever seen. I have no experience dining in; I always order ahead for takeout. On several occasions, I have ordered on my way home from Whitehouse Station on Sunday nights and my order was ready to go by the time I got there. The quality of the food is high, and that's what matters most to me. The people are also very friendly, but again, I've never dined in. I do think the prices could be a bit lower, but we don't exactly have a lot of options for good sushi in this area, plus I've ordered there at least 5 times, so clearly the cost is not keeping me from coming back. read more

My girlfriend and I had a great experience here. We went for dinner on a Saturday night and it wasn't busy. The hostess and our waitress both spoke clear English and were very attentive to us. The very polite and said excuse me and thank you every trip to the table. I ordered a Chilean sea bass roll and she had the tuna avocado roll. Both came out in about 20 minutes which was good because we definitely wanted to enjoy some wine before dinner. It is BYOB. I also ordered a spicy salmon roll and spicy tuna. She has their green tea ice cream for dessert. A little pricy for the dinner rolls. Our total bill was just over $60 with the tip. I think if you had a bad experience previously you should go back at a not so busy time and enjoy the great service we got. read more

Ordered sushi take out and when I went home and ate it, the rolls were so unbelievably small and poorly wrapped. Rice was everywhere. Very obvious that the chefs took little time to craft the rolls as they wouldn't have fallen apart like they did. I've dined inside before and the rolls are big but compared to the sushi yesterday, they were much smaller. The smallest rolls I have ever gotten from a sushi restaurant. We eat a LOT of sushi. We've been to a lot of sushi places in numerous different states, including the Masa Sushi in North Branch several times over the years so we were excited to learn this new location was opening up 5 minutes from our house. We went the first time and the food and service was great. Our seared tuna appetizer was very attractive, tasty and over a bed of shredded radish. We decided to make it a weekly event and go every Thursday since it is so close. We've now been there 4 times. Unfortunately, only the first time was worth mentioning. The other times were bad in numerous ways. Enough for us to not only stop going there, but to take the time to come on here and write a review which I never do. What was a good seared tuna app the first time changed dramatically the other 2 times we tried it. Ever since, the radish is gone and instead it has cucumber. It has also been so over sauced that you can't see much less taste the fish, they might as well have poured gravy on it. Way too much. Sloppy. So we tried a yellow tail app. Typically at other places, this dish is thin sliced w/ a light acidic sauce, sometimes with a bit of jalapeno. Not here. It was a thick cut, with overly sweet mango sauce. I guess some people might like that, but again it over powered the fish. On 2 nights, in my orders of sushi, I ordered 2 of a type of fish but was only given 1 order. Same fish both times. Odd. On one night, both my wife and I ordered the same roll... but when they came out, they were nothing at all like each other..again odd. The worst complaint was that my wife ordered a roll that had lobster in it, and when it came out the shell was still in there, never removed but wrapped inside the rice. Literally. After having to wait several minutes to flag down the waitress, we tried to show it to her and explain you can't eat a roll with hard lobster shell left inside and she seemed confused and just said ohhh, and walked away. Not only did they not replace the roll, but they left it on the check as well. We just paid it and left, at that point the fight wasn't worth it as we had already made up our mind to never come back. I know they have a sign on the door that says HELP WANTED.. but they need to get their stuff together. The attention to detail is lacking, the service is lacking. Oh, one last example- the 4 times we were there, over several weeks- the specials written on the board when you come in the door never changed! I'd rather drive to Kiku in Bedminster or Sogo in Easton.. being local isn't worth numerous inconsistent aspects. read more

I have dined here a handful of times now, but I will not return. An avid sushi/sashimi enthusiast since the 1980's, I know good sushi, and this simply isn't it. Or, let me say, it's for the novice who does not yet know any better. Last evening a friend and I ordered salmon-skin hand rolls, Ikura, yellowtail, eel, and salmon (all sashimi) and a dragon roll (eel). The hand rolls were decent though not warm as they should have been when they arrived at the table. The salmon was excellent, cut thick, fairly cold like butter. The yellowtail came rather thinly sliced and at room temperature. It wasn't as good as it could have been. The Ikura I can't even explain properly, but it was mushy and rather sweet instead of firm and salty. I found it rather awful. The eel sashimi was awful as well, mushy, not firm, and not tasting as it should have. The eel roll was worst of all simply because there was a tiny sliver of eel inside. Serving a roll like that, in my opinion, is just bad business. To make matters worse, and why I will never go there again, was the "all-smiles" reaction from the waitress when I made my displeasure known. Not a word from her. She did not care. read more

Went here recently for lunch on a Sunday with the family. It was pretty empty except for us. The staff was nice. The decor was ok. We ordered a few of the regular rolls, nothing fancy. It was ok, but I felt like it was overpriced for what we got. I used to waitress at several Japanese restaurants so I am pretty familiar with sushi in general. I just didn't feel like it was up to par with what I was expecting especially considering the prices. Oh, we also had the tuna pizza which was good. Overall, I probably won't return though when Somerville is only 35 minutes away, has better sushi, and not as overpriced. read more

I have to review for my son as I don't eat sushi (sorry!). The day we moved to the area my son noticed Masa right away and has eaten here countless times since. He is a VERY picky child and has always been absolutely thrilled with Masa and cannot wait until he gets to go again. As I don't eat it, I cannot judge taste, but being skeptical of sushi, I do always look and smell and it always seems very fresh and is presented well. We've eaten there twice. The first time was opening weekend and the food was excellent but took forever to come out - we ordered 4 rolls and they came out 2 at a time, the first after 45 minutes, the next after an hour. We chalked it up to opening weekend jitters, but loved the food, so figured the next time we'd do take out and avoid the wait, which we did last night. When we called in the order we were amazed to hear them say, "OK. 10 to 15 minutes." I showed up 20 minutes later and they were done and there wasn't a soul in the place, which would likely explain the speed. Then I got home and found that 3 of the 4 rolls were ice cold and had the consistency of something that had been in the refrigerator, not something that was made fresh to order. Talk about disappointed - I was borderline fuming considering the price, and would have rushed them back if I had the time. I would have called and complained, but figured it was pointless given that I wasn't going to jump in the car and return them. I don't know that I'll bother giving them a third shot or not, which is a shame because they showed promise on the first visit. read more

We were in the restaurant for a full hour (seated at our table for most of the time) and no one took our order or even brought us water. Masa Sushi has the BEST sushi in the area and beyond. To start, the restaurant is extremely clean. The staff is very friendly and is not slow at all.... not sure why so many people are saying that. I eat here at least twice a month and the food comes quickly. Most importantly, though, I must mention the amazing artistry of the sushi chefs. Every dish is prepared perfectly with beautiful details such as carrots cut like a butterfly, sauce painted on the plate in a beautiful picture, etc. Not only is the food delicious, but they pay attention to all of the details of presentation! I have even gotten plates of food that have little lights so that they glow. Masa is one of my favorite restaurants ever! read more

Excellent sushi! I have been ordering mostly take out for a year or so now so I don't know about the service. The Masa, Bridgewater, North Branch, Kaze all the rolls are excellent.
