Masakari - Brooklyn Few weeks ago, my fiancé and I joined our friends for their annual anniversary at their favorite sushi place in Brooklyn - Masakari. My fiancé and I all about healthy and homemade food and this was the first time to try something new and hopefully we would like it. The place was amazing and people were so kind and helpful, that we fall in love with the place right away. But, we had a little trouble of choosing food...it was something different and new to us. For appetizers, we had so much to choose from...Edemame, Shumai, Gyoza, Kaki Fry, Samble Mussels and many more. There were so much to choose from that we could not figure out what we wanted and we have stopped on Edemame and Wasabi Crackers. I have never tried Edemame in my life. I always thought it has to be cleaned from the shell before putting on the table, but it was so different when I saw it on the table. My Edemame had a shell on them and salt on top of them. When I tasted Edemame, I was amazed how well they were cooked - they weren't uncooked or overcooked; they were perfectly cooked well. I have never expected them to taste so good, but when the time came to eat Wasabi Cracker I was so excited. They looked so cute, like chips with some kind of dressing or missed things on top of them. Crackers were already spicy, and salmon wasn't cooked it was raw and spicy; I had never ate raw fish in my life, but I liked it. Wasabi Crakers were amazing and they tasted to different and good that I wanted more of them. It means that I will definitely come back and have so more :) For the Sushi, our friends ordered their favorite dish - Pink Bunny Roll. This roll included: tuna, salmon, eel, crunch tempura, tobiko o: pink soybean sheets and wasabi curry sauce. At first when I saw the dish on the table it looked a little weird to me, I never thought that you can mix so many different types of fish in one roll. When I tried it, it tasted so different that it took me a while to eat. At first I was trying what type of fish I am eating, than I was eating the whole roll and I have tasted the magic of the roll. It tasted so good, that I wasn't getting tired of eating it. I never thought that I could like something like that after eating healthy homemade food. Seems that the place has gone downhill since we last ate there 3 years ago. We used to love Masakari despite the train car layout and crowdiness, which was largery alleviated by a very friendly and professional manager who stood in the front to greet people and made rounds to ensure everyone was OK. We went there on Father's day and here is what completely pissed me off: 1. Half of our party came on time, half came 30 minutes late. They gave our table away and had the first half sit at one table and the second half at the other table, so much for a family celebration. 2. Without first taking our orders, they have informed us at 3:30 that this table is reserved, and when we asked for what time, they told us 6, at which point, my hubby, who is usually very quiet, asked "Are you trying to kick us out of here?" 3. The sushi which was never that great compared to other places, tasted terrible. My son had asked for no seaweed in his cucumber roll and it tasted completely bland, it had tons of rice and like 2 strands of cucumbers inside, he could not finish it. 4. The hibachi dishes were still OK, the only good remnant of the old days. 5. The sesame beef appetizer was very, very salty, my kids usually like any kind of beef on a stick, they both refused to eat it. 6. The servers have not even come once to check if everything was OK. There was a front manager, a young girl whom I have first mistaken for a customer. Masakari used to be unusual in its fusion concept, which made us forgive the layout and the business of it, however, both the food and the service have gone downhill so I am crossing it off my favorite places list. read more

Ordered a large order around 7pm. Food was not delivered by 9pm. I called and spoke with Lisa at 9pm. She said the food was made and would be delivered in 5-10min. It was not. At 1020pm (over 3hrs after order) I called again at which point Lisa suggested that due certain mistakes at Masakari, they can no longer prepare the food. She said she would refund the money and offered a 10% discount on next order. Given the significant mistakes and mismanagement I declined such a small discount. read more

I use to love this place. Last few times I ordered I actually got sick. It went from the best sushi place in Bklyn to crap. I called after I made the correlation of getting sick and the nights I ordered out to find out they changed fish venders and have been getting complaints and that they were looking for switch back. At least that's what the person on the phone told me. Can't try and cut corners when dealing with raw (sushi grade) fish. That's all I gotta say. read more

Took 2 HOURS Before Delivery! Placed and order 6:45pm and was told 45 min. Mo big deal, standard. Called an 1.5 hour later And was told they are very busy, its almost ready..I asked if I pick it up, is it ready and was told yes! I love the food there and the mochi ice-cream is fabulous! However, waitresses are very rude... I understand it's Russian neighborhood and it's hard to be a nice waiter ( Russian clients are famous for being difficult, rude and for not leaving good tips), but come on ladies!!! Like the lunch special. Really good deal for like $10. You actually get a lot of food. The food is pretty fresh and tasty and staff is nice. I've had a lot of get together a here with friends and it's always been a good time. This is one of the places that has been around for a while, not one of those mom and pop sushi spots. read more

So gross I spotted at least 5 fruit flies inside of my Kani salad and I literally watched one crawl out. The manager that was there still tried charging me for it and literally yelled st me when they're the ones that should be getting yelled at! Stay away this place is not as fresh as it used to be! Ive been coming here ever since they opened. I absolutely love this place. The parking on sheepshead bay rd is a little tough but food is great as well as the service and prices. Order the speciality rolls, and they have amazing appetizer dishes. read more
