I love masala. I order all the time through the waitr app and get delivery, so convenient. My favorite appetizers are the samosa tikka chaat. I love the butter chicken, chicken korma, and vindaloo chicken. Also the tikka masala and grilled entrees are awesome too. Naan is on point and the chutneys are so good as well. read more

We visited Lafayette looking forward to sampling Cajun cuisine, only to discover that vegetarian Cajun is something of an oxymoron. When we finally abandoned the search for veggie Cajun and settled on Masala Indian Kitchen instead, we weren't expecting it to be one of the most delicious meals we've ever had; we were wrong. The food, service, and ambiance were all top notch -- the best Indian cuisine we've ever eaten (and, being from NYC, we've been fortunate to eat a lot of great Indian food). The navratan korma was extraordinary (I'm still thinking about it two weeks later), but even the usually humble aloo gobi was memorable. The bullet naan (potato, onion, and jalapeno) is a brilliant, delicious innovation and we wish that we didn't have to travel all the way to Lafayette to have it again. Service from Alex was caring and thoughtful, and the the owner's personableness, passion, and obvious concern for quality helped to make the meal perfect. We are looking forward to returning to Lafayette someday to sample more of the menu. What a great night! read more

Please do not eat this and think this is what real Indian food tastes like. This is a bland, Americanized version...I cook better than this at home. When we went there, they got our order wrong and took forever to get our food out. I was extremely disappointed in the food and wait staff. Service was very slow. The food was an absolute disappointment. Indian food is supposed to tickle the taste bud and have tons of flavor...I swear McDonalds French fries have more taste than the food here. MAJOR DISAPPOINTMENT!!! And they are extremely pricey for what they serve. read more

The family owners of this restaurant are lovely people originating from India and their chef, Ragi and kitchen staff are very capable of preparing delicious cuisine. The waitservice is very on and off - dependent upon who you get. There is one peculiar server who cannot answer any questions about the menu because she has not tried anything on the menu - except for one special chicken dish! She turns ANY request into a major act of congress. The nickeling and diming is endless... even for extra sauce served in a small ramakin. And, please do not ask for noodles rather than rice... the commotion caused is beyond comprehension. The food was on the table before the server delivered the wine --- BUT she said she did not forget while tending to three other tables and did not return until after another server kindly brought it over. DELICIOUS selection - but the service the last couple of times certainly is not even close to being equal to the food! read more

I love Indian. Worth the drive from New Iberia! Bar area is my usual, servers very friendly. Food is awesome! I can't handle the Indian Hot, but I did it! I now stick to the Cajun Hot! As a former Vegetarian, I stick with that, but the butter chicken is a great introduction to the style of food. I give it a 5 because it's that good, and It's worth checking out. Not many Indian places in Louisiana. This one is one of the best, if not the best, in this state... so far. The Naan is awesome. Pakoras are awesome. After trying those, you'll have to explore on your own. Their menu is extensive. Have an Indian beer, or a mango drink at the bar! read more

Had a third meal there last night. Stopped in around 6pm and seated promptly. Waitress served us promptly although forgot an appetizer. The food is ok, and considering it's the only Indian in Lafayette it's not bad, but I'm coming from E. 6th Street and have been eating Indian for a looooong time. So, papadams should be much, much, fresher and tastier, not like stale bread crackers. Curries have too much onion and pepper, not enough coriander. Everything could be fresher, not yesterday's. Still, I'll go back as it's the only game in town. read more

Decent Indian food. Waitress was shiite. Not checked on once during our dinner, and there were only 3 tables seated. Got my drink order wrong. If you get an itch for Indian, its worth a trip, only because there aren't many options in the genre of cuisine in LAF. Aside from that, pass on this chain restaurant service. For an appetizer we had the Indian version of coconut shrimp. Was hot and fresh, and was served with two dipping sauces: a mayo-style sauce that packed a little punch, and a sweet-and-sour dip that was nice and spicy. I had the lamb curry, medium heat. It was nicely spiced. Although I generally like a lot of heat, I generally stick with medium level the first time I try a new restaurant; I've gotten "burned" before by restaurants that really overdo the heat setting (sorry, couldn't resist the pun!) But I think I'd attempt "hot" the next time at Masala. (If you're reading this review remember that I really like heat!) The order came with tasty basmati rice, well-seasoned with cumin seeds. Husband got the mixed tandoori grill, and said it was also very good. We got a side of garlic naan bread, which was just right for sopping up the sauce left over from my curry. Our waiter brought out a very pretty tray of delicious- looking desserts, but we were too full to try anything. In fact, we took home part of the tandoori order. When we're in the Lafayette area again we'll definitely try to return to Masala! read more

My Mom wanted to eat at an indian restaurant and this is down the street from work so we went to Masala. First, I was impressed by the dozen or more vegetarian options. I tried the Aloo Channa and loved it!! I also love the cilantro and mint sauce the comes with the naan. I make it a point to bring my friends here and so far they have all loved Masala, too. You can order the dishes mild, medium or spicy. Pricey? Yes, a little, but the portions are decent and I end up taking it home and getting 3 meals out of one order. For me, the price is worth it for good food. I like the décor, it sets the tone and is pleasant and comfortable. The servers I've had have all been knowledgeable about the menu and were quick to provide recommendations. The owner makes a point to come around and ask how everything is, so I know they care about the customer experience. This is one of my favorite places to eat in Lafayette. read more

Let me get something out first. Masala no longer has a Buffet or Tapas. No for the review. Masala has a good selection of food, ranging from Kabobs and Curry. Food can be taken in different varieties, so you can try the same dish with a different meat. The Onion and Bullet Naan are very good, and at least one type of Naan should be ordered into to clean you dish when you are finish. The atmosphere is dark and romantic, with hints of Indian culture. I do have a complaint though. In recent years, the spiciness of the food has gone down. I remember about two years ago, if you ordered Indian Curry, expect you nasal cavities to be cleaned out. Now, the food barely bites my mouth even on the Indian Hot Level. The waiter did say that they can bring some spice sauce to increase the spiciness of the food. I have not tried this, but its good to know. A big warning, the food can get pricy. Considering how nice the restaurant is, I expect this. A nice place to take a date. read more

This is a tricky one. If I were judging them strictly on food I'd give them 4 stars. But there are certain things that really tick me off when it comes to restaurants. First, if the six year old I'm with wants to sit in the special booth w/the drapes and decorations, but its not bussed yet, dont say "No. We cant do that. Theyre not ready to be sat." Its my fault really, I should have told that guy that we would wait, but instead I kept my opinion to myself and let it effect my opinion of the restaurant as a whole. Second, if Im going to pay $20 bucks for an entree, its going to be for a really good steak and potato dish. A price that would be better suited for the chicken tikka masala I ordered would be $12.50. That would be fair, and thats what I pay at a VERY good Indian place in Shreveport (Indias.) The chick tikka masala was very good and if it wasnt for Indias I would think it was great. I have made better naan in my kitchen, I prefer it to be thinner and more evenly cooked. And the waitstaff is a little goofy. Overall, somewhere between 3 to 4 stars. Oh, they have some pretty awesome desserts! read more
