California roll
Jo H.

While cruising along Federal Highway, I decided to pull into Hillsboro Square and get some sushi to-go from Masamune Japanese restaurant. It was my first time here, so I didn't know what to expect. As I entered, I noticed it was a small, serene restaurant with adequate seating and a sushi bar. I approached an employee and placed a takeout order for a California roll. As I waited, I looked at their menu to see what they offered. There were many traditional Japanese dishes, fresh sushi & sashimi, signature rolls, bento boxes, udon & soba, Ramen, and appetizers all at a reasonable price. I lack dining experience with Japanese cuisine, so many of the menu items were unfamiliar. What I do know is the California roll was freshly made and delicious. This roll had an even amount of imitation crab, creamy avocado, and crisp cucumber, all skillfully wrapped with sushi rice and nori. I will add this restaurant to my list of great spots to get good California rolls.

Sharing 2 new items we tried 3 nights ago that I highly recommend: Blue Fin Set - love, love as this was OmG amazing!!! The quality of the blue fin was superior. Can't wait to have that again. The other one is an Eggplant Nibitashi appetizer. Very good but you have to be ok with the somewhat slimy texture of the eggplant. Of course, we cannot leave Masamune without having their Magic Sweet Potato dessert!

Had a good first experience, tried a nice array dishes from edamame, seared salmon sushi, crispy and light shrimp tempura, tuna sample plate with four different grades of tuna gradually getting better in cut which was amazing, two sushi rolls, the hot mama and us-1 dynamite. My only negative which is more of a preference really is I prefer thinner cut rolls. They are cut into 8 which I think makes them on the thicker end but I'm sure if I ask for them to be cut thinner they could accommodate? I would come back to try some more items. The menu is big and has a decent amount of options.

Been waiting to try this restaurant out again... I used to go a long long time ago when I was a kid and obviously restaurants change ownership, management and vendors so I was exited to try it out as an adult. It's in a small stand alone Japanese style building in the south east corner of Publix plaza on Hillsboro & federal. Basically on the east side of the street across from the goodwill. I walked in a few minutes after 5:30 (note they are not open for lunch and business begins at 5:30. I sat at the sushi bar and was greet by a female server. I let her know it was my first time here. She asked what I wanted to drink and then brought over the menu. A more mature couples sat at the sushi bar next to me. They had a different server whom they ordered drinks with and then directly with the sushi chef. While, I continued to wait for the waitress. After 15 mins I asked him if he could be my server instead. I ordered the Natto Ikura Rice as an appetizer and sashimi regular to test out the quality of fish. The appetizer was okay. Different but nothing wow. The sushi rice lacked flavor. It was bland and had no vinegar or sweet flavor like sushi rice does. The sashimi was great quality fish. I asked the sushi chef what types of fish were on it since the waiter did not come over to ask me if I needed anything or educate me on what I was eating since when I ordered I asked what type of fish is on it and he replied chefs choice. My meal had salmon, tuna, octopus, conch, fluke, black grouper, Bronzino, cobia and yellowtail. The black grouper was delicious and fluke is always a nice light mild texture fish. The service was terrible; disinterested once they saw I was ordering water and a solo diner. Food quality great. Experience was so so. Not sure if I will come back and give them a second try.

I've been coming here for years and in recent years they have upgraded the place! Everything was genuinely amazing and very fresh except for the sashimi platter. Most of the fish on the platter tasted fishy and/or was previously frozen especially the wahoo. Otherwise had amazing food this night!

Eel sushi

Cozy restaurant. Quality sushi. Beautiful presentations. Attentive friendly service. Truly enjoy it every time we dine here, which if we lived closer it would be weekly. Excellent.

Chicken Karaage

BEST SUSHI IN THE BROWARD COUNTY AREA . I know its in a strip mall, and is very out of the way, but I promise you this is very close to what I had in Japan. The sushi is amazing and prepared very well, there's an overwhelming variety of dishes including Karaage, Udon, Ramen, and Curry Katsu! It's very authentic and the service is spectacular. The ambiance is very relaxing with dim lights. Sushi was so good, that I forgot to take pictures, and as you can tell the Karaage was delicious since I started eating before taking a picture .

It's an intimate experience as the restaurant seating is limited. We've been coming for years and always been huge fans. The pork buns are a must try, it tastes like they are smoking the pork belly which really elevated the flavor. The cucumber salad is a refreshing bite between the buns and the ramen. Take out or dine in the food is always top tier. I will say the service can be hit or miss depending on how busy they get, but that comes with a small mom and pop shop feel. Would recommend trying if you're a ramen fan. You won't regret it.

I stumbled upon this restaurant after finding it on Google and have been back multiple times already. The ramens are good, doesn't matter what you order they are all better tasting than you'd imagine. They also have small appetizers, nice beer selections, and rice bowl dishes as well. I tried their onigiri, seaweed wrapped around sushi rice and marinated contents, and it was tasty. Please try little bit of everything on their menu and let me know which one was your favorite. Shimuja is located in a plaza that offers plenty of parking spaces. Yes I would recommend this place others in a heartbeat. Yes I will be back when I am craving ramen next.

I have been wanting to try this spot for a while so I'm glad we took a walk over from the gallery. The inside is pretty tight quarters, but for me that adds to the experience. Food and service were amazing! I ordered the Tonkatsu Ramen (my all-time fave) with medium spice & a Sapporo beer. The broth was perfect, the Chashu pork was tender and they give you the perfect amount of noodles with the option to add more, of course. The broth cleared out any congestion i had leftover from our cold front! Definitely going spicier next time I dine in. TOTAL : for my ramen & beer it was about $35 - they give the XL size for beer btw

About 9 stools where you watch the chef prepare your ramen and eat at a counter. No fuss interior and service. If you prefer a quiet meal, this place is ideal. We ordered: - Oxtail Ramen which was very unique and tasty (we picked medium seasoning). Added bokchoy. Will order again. - Tonkotsu Ramen with added enoki. Not as creamy as I'm use to but you can tell all the ingredients are very fresh. For such a rich dish, I didn't feel heavy later on that night. We usually order extra ramen but didn't have to. The proportions were spot on and enough for a hearty meal. Total tab was around $65 after tip and tax. We came in around 7pm - no wait - and within 30 mins the whole place filled up.
