Very disappointed. Posted hours say that Masaru's closes at 9 PM. Walk in at 8:30 PM and without even a greeting was told that the woks are off and anything requiring the wok to cook it was not available to order. Confirmed the time they closed was 9 and staff just stood there with a whatever attitude with a look of 'well what do you want me to do about it?' Ordered the teriyaki chicken combo plate but that is not what I received. What I got was 1/4 of a chicken bbq'd bone-in. I asked if I got the right food and was told this is how they make teriyaki chicken here. I of course asked if they had ever seen teriyaki chicken before, perhaps from maybe one of the dozen or so places here in visalia that also make it and I was told that all those other places must be just using processed chicken.... Thats why theres is chopped up and served with sauce. Heres a tip for the owners of Masaru's, if you are going to make a dish so far from the norm that it becomes unrecognizable from the real thing at least put up a picture menu so people know all the "special" ways YOU prepare your food so as not to create confusion and of course dissatisfaction. read more

Fried calamari is over battered. It falls apart when you try to eat it. I only liked the spicy mayo. The calamari is not seasoned at all. The bowls are edible but too basic. It just a bunch of rice, shredded chicken, green onions, & teriyaki sauce. read more

I have loved their rice bowl for the last 20 years! A staple local owned place in Visalia. My wife and I crave and get it just about once a week, it's crazy.. I like the beef an chicken combo bowl and the secret is their teriyaki sauce, it's my favorite and you can buy it in bulk at a really fair price. The quality of the rice and the marinated meat is also perfect, I have tried many unsuccessful times to duplicate its perfection. Their potstickers are also amazing. Besides that, we don't get anything else - the other stuff isn't even close to the same level as the chicken bowls in my opinion. If you are craving a rice/chicken bowl, then go here- it even tastes good when you are sick and nothing else sounds good. Our favorite part about the bowls are their utter simplicity - amazing work. Call ahead, usually takes a quick 10 minutes to make. Masaru's has been around for 25 years for a good reason- the rice bowls are truly addicting! read more

Ooops for this place. Spicy tuna was mostly rice with a bit of fishy smelling tuna sludge in the middle and a dark black hair on the first piece. Rice was gummy. Beef bowl was very salty. Shrimp tempura was fine. Service was fast, but a bit on the mean side. Overall it was an oops. read more

I've ate here many times, usually get an half chicken, half beef bowl. It's usually pretty good, if you get it later in the day the meat doesn't seem as fresh. My biggest issue is that it's always dirty, the floor and the table tops always have food etc on them. Almost like they only clean at closing and just leave the mess all day. read more

I visited this restaurant on 11/3/15 I have been here many other times. Their choice in employees has changed, in a bad way. This day it was Erica, working the cash register. She obviously hates working there. She silently took my money . I picked up my bag. I gave her the opportunity to say thank you, until I got to the door. I love the food here as long as it comes in a bowl. Anything else that comes outside of a bowl do not order!! Although the restaurant is in a new shopping center be warn they have cockroaches in the restaurant. We ate here for lunch and saw cockroaches climbing the wall next to us. While eating my boyfriend noticed that the girl working the front counter served one of the cooks a beer from the tap. This happened Friday, 06/10/16 at 8:10-8:15 p.m. If the owner is reading this, I would probably check your cameras. Also, the dining experience here is terrible because the whole time your eating all you can hear is the workers loudly talking in the back. Very rude and very unprofessional place. I love the chicken bowl here as well as the chicken salad and cucumber salad. What I don't like is that every time I order a spicy chicken salad I'm given a regular teriyaki sauce. EVERY TIME. I came in and there was a very long line and I was told I had to wait even though I ordered ahead....something is wrong. I couldn't wait so I canceled my order. Just came here for a chicken bowl & chicken salad. Hadn't been here in a while. First, the chicken bowl didn't have as much chicken as they usually do. Maybe because it wasn't "to go", they couldn't tell to fill it to the top without having to put a lid on it. Looked like someone had eaten some of it. Second, my chicken salad was so salty, it was hard to finish it. My husband said the chicken in his bowl was very salty too. Sad to say, this was probably our last visit here.
