As you enter the restaurant , it resembles those you would see in Saitama. The atmosphere is vibrant and cheerful. It's the perfect setting for a nice dinner. We have dined here numerous times. However , tonight we just came for happy hour. We ordered Salmon Belly Sushi , it may not sound tempting but it really is delicious. As soon as you walk in to there is a over powering most disgusting foul odor. Not sure if it comes from their Sushi Bar Area, because it is located on the left hand side as soon as you walk in the restaurant. Beautiful place. Extremely friendly service. Our server checked on us so much and even the chef made sure we had everything we needed before he left. We came for teppanyaki. Our meals came with soup, salad and the rice and veggies as well as 2 shrimps and choice of meat. I had the NY steak. They also offer a teriyaki steak which is thinner of a cut. There's a ton of appraisers and sushi rolls to choose from. Everything was very good. We came for lunch but were given dinner menus so we didn't get the lunch prices. No big deal. Went for Mother's Day 2026 and it had been a while since we had dined here. To our surprise there was a female chef cooking for us and she was absolutely fantastic! I don't recall her name but she was very friendly and fun! The food was a bit over priced for what it was. But it was good. The steaks were extremely thin. Like they took a regular New York steak and sliced on the equator a few times to make it 4 steaks out of the initial one. The cook even said when I requested medium rare that it would be hard for her to achieve that. The bathrooms were clean but the exhaust vents above the tables were covered in grease and grime like it had been months and months since they had been cleaned. This is a great hidden jewel in Visalia! Made reservations for during the week; which was perfect. Not busy; had our own table ( felt like we were at an elegant dinner just for us ). The chef was very personable and even did some tricks and was creative while cooking the food. We enjoyed the whole experience. The food was delicious; tasty and hot. This was our first time trying Tokyo Garden it went amazingly well. Our waitress was very friendly and very helpful but our cook stole the show. While seeing others being very stoic and quiet our cook Alfredo, or Fred as he said they call him, put on a show!! He was funny, charismatic and super nice! A real shame of a business. My party was completely vegetarian hence I called in before making a reservation to ensure they can do tofu tepenyaki (as many places do), they say YES. Came here with lower expectations seeing how there's a very small Asian population in the area and minimal options for sushi. I definitely didn't expect to find premium fish cuts or omakase type experiences. However, my main gripe is how the prices did not reflect the lower quality of sushi. The sushi combo was $42, but had imitation crab as one of the pieces. The California rolls were $12 but didn't even use real crab and weren't dusted with tobiko. The only positive part of the meal was getting two large pieces of uni gunkan for $16.75. For the prices we paid here, we definitely would've gotten a much better experience even in Bay Area with its exorbitant prices. read more

I used to come here years ago. They're rolls and sushi were awesome! For around $12 you get an 8 piece roll with a thick layer of fish. I stopped going because it seems that every time I came back they're prices kept going up. I stopped coming when they're rolls became almost $20 per. Fast forward to 7/24/2026 . My bday so decided to splurge a little. I ordered 3 different types of rolls all containing either salmon or tuna. I was shocked when I saw one roll was almost $30! But because of the occasion I ordered 6 rolls to go. I can't remember which rolls I ordered but all was supposed to have some sort of fish on top. I noticed the tuna and salmon on the rolls are tiny and very thin. I couldn't even tell I was eating fish on a roll. All 6 of my rolls had the same issue. The fish was almost non existent ! Might as well order a California roll!. I also noticed when I picked up my order that the place was practically empty. And it was around 530 pm!. IMHO, Tokyo Gardens in Visalia is not worth going to. Oh, and the Wasabi they included had no taste at all! Zero taste!! And added about half a teaspoon. I'm never going back nor do I recommend it!. I seldom make reviews but after me and my gf had a rough experience I felt the need to. I'll start with the biggest problem, the cook gave us undercooked chicken which makes us concerned for health issues after the fact. Not to mention, while cooking he wasn't mixing the food well, the butter still hard and melting as he put it on our plates. Next, we were dining with 2 other couples both of which ordered one meal and split it while me and my partner ordered our own individual meals. What I don't understand is that the other two couples were given the exact same proportions of everything except for a few cut up pieces of steak and a few extra shrimp. So why are we being charged upwards to $50 extra for a meal when they're getting the almost identical meal for half the price, that's just bad business practice and wrong. The only positive part of our meal was the sushi we ordered and the soup that is prepped in the back. Not worth a $194 bill (for 2 people) with a $23 forced gratuity attached especially after how many things went wrong in the dinner. I've been here multiple times now , tonight we celebrated my mothers birthday with the family , 8 adults and 3 children (quiet a large party to serve) We had a blast, the only complaint is they sent our chef to another party when we had reserved her days in advance , I even called again today to ensure they had my reservation for our party and requested the female chef (whom is amazing btw) , so they knew we wanted her and tried to send us someone else . So the wait was long . But once the chef arrived we had a great time . She was entertaining and the food was cooked to perfection, the filet mignon was to die for. Enjoyed their teppanyaki the other night and nice to see this place is still doing well after all these years. We had a dinner reservation for a party of 16. They did require a deposit to secure the reservation so just something to be aware of. Our entire party arrived at the reservation time and we were promptly seated. I was surprised at how quick and efficient their service was. Our teppanyaki chefs could have been a little more engaged with folks in our party but they handled their business.
