    Whammy Roll
    Kevin H.

Gozen really surprised me this time. I've been here off and on for years and honestly it was never a place I looked forward too. Usually only came when someone else wanted it for a birthday or whatever. But this time... yeah it hit different. Biggest change for me was the sauce. Before I just didn't care for what they used, felt kinda bland. Now they got something more like the hot and spicy sauce you get at Japanese Kitchen in Clovis and that made all the difference. Has that sweet kick that just works with everything. I had sushi with fried rice and two rolls stood out. The Whammy roll was the long curved one, crab meat, shrimp, avocado, fried jalapeños, sweet sauce, crunchy and spicy all in one bite. The Cherry Blossom roll looked like a sushi cake, loaded with crab, avocado, tempura shrimp, cucumber, then topped with tuna, salmon, scallops, masago, crunchy bits and sauces... over the top but in the best way. We had a big group like 25 people and took up both teppanyaki tables. Chefs were fun, fire show was great, everybody got their food hot. Servers kept up with drinks and extras, honestly did a solid job with that many of us. Place looked clean too which I always notice. Only thing I kinda didn't like was the automatic 18% gratuity. I get it but it's one of those things where I probably would've tipped higher if they just let me do it myself. Once I saw it was already on there I just left it. End of the day though, this visit changed my mind about Gozen. Used to tolerate it once a year... now I'll actually look forward to going back.

    New York Steak Teppanyaki

My husband and I had a fun meal of teppanyaki here for my birthday! I got the New York steak and he got the teriyaki chicken. The cook on both meats was delicious! Each teppanyaki meal comes with the protein, rice, veggies, miso soup, gyoza, and salad upon request. However, my husband and I both asked for the salad, and neither of us received it, which we didn't realize until later in the meal when it wasn't worth it to ask anymore. The miso soup was also a bit flavorless. They let me get double fried rice instead of veggies, and the rice is so good!! I highly recommend upgrading to the garlic fried rice! Our teppanyaki chef was also so funny and entertaining. Also, we ordered the Gozen Tiger roll as a starter, which is still my favorite sushi roll ever! The portions were also huge, so I had plenty of delicious steak and fried rice to enjoy for lunch the next day! Unfortunately though, the biggest downside to the dinner was the drink I got from the bar. I started with a Birthday shooter, which was really good, but after that I ordered a margarita. They had a full bar so I assumed a classic margarita would be pretty straightforward, but this was the worst margarita I have ever had. It was made with Minute Maid lemonade, was super weak, and was not good at all! So stick to the drinks on the menu and don't try any "standard" bar drinks.

Love Japanese food and Iv been to this restaurant a hand full of of times and Iv probably only liked it only once. I went during lunch and got their lunch special chicken teriyaki and Cali roll. My man got the breaded chicken. Not only did it take it a long time to get out to us but my chicken didn't taste good at all. The texture was so off it didn't even taste like chicken I could NOT eat it I ended up eating my mans plate. Now the breaded chicken tasted fine. My side salad also wasn't that good. They must of watered down the clear dressing they had. It tasted like watered down Ponzu sauce. Our server could have checked on us more frequent. We had to get her attention Every time. Mind you it is lunch BUT they weren't really busy. The quantity was good but the quality wasn't.

Ordered Salmon Teriyaki combo plate. Shared with Melissa the Salmon was significantly smaller than my previous order. The fried rice was lukewarm. The green salad was definitely a poorer quality of ingredients to accompany a signature combo plate. Melissa spoke to the cook regarding the quality of salmon. She applied a 20% discount towards the cost of the meal. Her listening skills were excellent and her take charge attention to detail was the highlight of the lunch meal.

Vegetable Rolls were amazing! Better than the sushi. We went to teppanyaki, the theatrics were good. Service was average, filled our waters. Very oriental!

It's been years since I last visited but I was desperately wanting sushi and my options we're limited so I decided to give Gozen another try. I'm very disappointed in my decision. To me sushi should be carefully made and cut delicately. It should almost feel like it melts in your mouth if made properly. We ordered 3 rolls and it appeared as if a caveman had cut and assembled them. The ratios were way off. The rainbow roll was not a rainbow roll at all and the rice was hard so the rolls were falling apart. Again the price point is in the high end so this type of quality is unacceptable. In this economy nothing is worse than spending your hard earned money on a bad meal.

We went for Valentines Day For Tapanyaki The Service is always amazing and the food is always great . The atmosphere is always nice and decorated for Valentine's Day . The staff is great . Stan the manager is the best and the owners Billy and his wife are always friendly and busy working making sure everyone is taken care of I recommend this place

Meet Larry the cock roach. He tried climbing my foot at Gozens. Didn't work out too well for him.

Today was the last time I give Gozen a chance to impress me. I've been here a handful of times over the years and they have always delivered mediocre results. I prefer Sushi Kuu because I believe they are far superior, and today Gozen proved that. Went for lunch and got a table for a party of 2. The restaurant was practically dead, with only 3 tables waiting on service. We ordered two items on the menu and waited 35 minutes before the 1st item came out. The table seats next to us were falling apart and we stayed joking about it while we waited forever for two items. The worst part was actually during the wait. A cock roach was trying to climb my foot, and I kicked it off before it could start it's climbing journey. I squashed it after. Not quite the thing you want to see right before eating raw fish. So, needless to say, that was our last time trying to give Gozens a chance to prove to us they could deliver an exceptional experience. I think I'll just stick to Sushi Kuu!

Aha Sushi Roll! It's delicious. But hot, so keep that in mind.

Our kids took us here for our birthdays & good times were had by all! The service was stellar as was the food. Not to mention our talented chef that entertained us with the best comedic timing. If you are looking for special memory! THIS is the place!

One word of advice: if you're planning to join the waitlist, I recommend calling ahead for a more accurate wait time. The website initially showed no one ahead of us, but after joining the waitlist it indicated several parties were waiting. When we arrived, we were told the wait would be about 45 minutes, which wasn't ideal with a couple of hungry kids. Thankfully, we were seated within about 10 minutes. Our server, Patrick, was fantastic! He provided excellent customer service, took the time to explain the sushi rolls, helped us navigate the kids' menu, and was attentive throughout our meal. Patrick, thank you for helping make my mom's birthday dinner so memorable. Khasey was our chef, and the food was absolutely delicious. He made sure we had every sauce we asked for. The teppanyaki experience for the children was engaging and fun. To top it off, the staff brought out a cute birthday dessert and sang a birthday tune for my mom, which made the celebration even more special. The location is another huge plus. It's situated in a great area near Fresno State with plenty to do before or after dinner, including ice cream shops, boba spots, VR gaming, and movie theaters. Overall, we had a great experience and can't wait to come back!
