Rolled into Maskadores the day before Cinco de Mayo. Needed some street tacos in my life to prepare for the holiday. Looking around the Tempe area Naskadores reviews jumped off the page and it was only a few mile scooter ride from my hotel. Man am I glad I didn't just stop at the first taco place I saw and waited on Maskadores. This place is legit good. Better than any street taco I had in MN. I asked the lady behind the counter which meats were best/hottest and she recommended going with the green Chile pork and the chicken tinga. Both were super tasty. I absolutely crushed them. Probably could have had six instead of four - but my pool body is thanking me as I write this now. Cheat code - the "super/red hot" sauce/salsa at the salsa bar. After a quick taste test I spooned the stuff all over my tacos and even throughout my rice. It was bomb! Check this place out if you are a taco fan. You won't be disappointed. Look out for the masked bouncers/guards... They monitored the place the whole time I ate without moving a muscle. read more

When I arrived at Maskadores Taco Shop, I was quickly served. You simply tell them what entree you'd like, then select from available toppings / fillings, etc. Sadly, after I paid, I wanted to receive my receipt via email, but when I made the email selection, their Clover card terminal immediately refreshed to the Home Screen. No receipt for me. I ordered the Burrito Bowl with Carnitas. ($12.50 + tax + tip.) The meat portion was ample, but even though it was reheated on a flattop, it was just crispy on the exterior portions, but not warmed on the interior. It was topped with cheese, roasted corn, lettuce, pico de gallo, rice and pickled onions. The pickled onions were quite colorful, though the flavor was a bit off. Not bad, just different from what I've had in the past. The surprising standout was the rice; soft and fluffy. Given there were no other dine in Customers (and an Employee surfing the 'net behind the bar), the tables could have used a good wipe down. While there, you can check out there unique decor of masked men. But don't expect a greeting from Employees when arriving or leaving. I received neither. read more

I've learned the jokes the wall have the best food. It was clean and the service was prompt. My tacos were delicious.

The overall interior of the restaurant is unique and something I haven't seen before. The service was good which alot of menu options to pick from. Enjoyed the salsa at the salsa bar. I tried the #5 street tacos which came with 4 street tacos (with your choice of meat) and rice and beans. The meat was very juicy and tender and overall very good. This is definitely one of the more pricier tacos I've had in Phoenix. read more

I'm from out of town, I read the reviews and decided to eat here. I was greatly disappointed. I ordered sopas with al pastor. The food as stale, reheated, dry, and tasteless. The al pastor was dry like leather. I didn't want the beans or rice and was charged for a full combo plate. My daughter ordered taquitos with chicken. Same. Stale and dry. The black beans were horrible and cold. The best thing she got was the bottled coca cola. The tables looked clean, they were sticky. I don't recommended this establishment if you want good fresh Mexican food. I will not return to eat here when I come back to Tempe. read more

The tacos were excellent and the location was exceptionally clean. Downside: Location is not great and it is not clearly marked from the outside (Taco Shop is what sign says). The parking is terrible. There was also no other people in the restaurant when i was there which is always concerning. A Lucha Libre themed taco shop in an unassuming strip mall. We asked the cashier what was her two favorite dishes and the Bandera Burrito and the 5 Street Tacos were her choice. So we ordered them and it was really good. The standout was the 5 Street Tacos with carne asada and barbacoa. The tacos hit the spot and were delicious with lots of toppings including corn and pickled red onions. The Bandera Burrito was good. We got the Chipotle chicken. I was visiting out of town and stumble upon this dive for lunch. Was not the "Mexican Restaurant" I was looking for, but is the Taco/Burrito/Enchilada dive I needed. The place definitely has tasty tacos, and food. If you like spicy you'll like it here. Its like a taco truck meets bar dive. Its like Chipotle but actually authentic taste. Tried the roasted corn topping, which was bumppin!!! Surprised the crowd from ASU is not blowin this place up. A dive undiscovered. Rice was tasty, could use some cilantro & lime, brown beans would be better in a small bowl like a soup, but overall tasty!!! The environment is chill. Not a good first time experience. Food - carne asada tasted like it bathed in salt. The tacos and chips we ordered came out soggy, you needed a fork just to eat it. If you're looking for extremely authentic delicious Mexican food this is the spot. We went around 6 pm and it was dead, we were the only people there. Even while we ate, only a few people popped in here and there and after eat it surprised me because it was top 5 best Mexican food places I've been to. From the outside, it doesn't look like much just a hole in the wall in a little strip mall complex. Once you go inside you can tell it's an authentic family owned business. Their decor is WWE with mannequins spread out around. When you order, you have all the menu options on the wall and you go down the line and order kind of like a Chipotle but with real options like wet burritos, enchiladas, street tacos, etc. I had the 4 street tacos with shrimp ($2) extra and they were AMAZING. They were on two corn tortillas each warmed on a flat top grill and they have a generous amount of shrimp. You can choose you other toppings so of course I did cheese, corn, and pico. They also came with rice and either black or pinto beans. The other two in my group got a wet burrito which, was HUGE, enough for two servings and my dad had the quesadilla with carne asada. Lastly, they have a side bar with drinks and different salsas and jalapeños. Their salsa is super flavorful and spicy. Even the mild had a spice to it! We had a short stop in Phoenix on our way to the airport and after briefly driving through the ASU campus, we needed some tacos. This place came up on Yelp with great reviews and they had vegetarian and vegan options so we went here. We had the fortunate luck of having the owner serve us. We was very friendly and loved what he does. He informed us that they have 21 local locations! Wow. That means they're doing something right. We loved our food. I included a copy of the receipt for reference and pricing. I had an order of the Tacodillas which is a cross between a taco and a quesadilla. This was an interesting twist on two favorites. It was wonderful. I ate every bite and even had one of my daughter's Tacodillas that she couldn't finish. The owner ended up dropping off some free chips with guacamole and a cream salsa, which was a nice touch. There is a salsa bar and self serve fountain drink area off to the side. According to the owner, they just expanded into the old Subway location next door and he is still finishing up the expansion. It looks like they'll have a bar area there in the future. I love the interior decor with the theme of Masked Mexican Wrestlers and a very cool blue color theme. I'm glad to recommend this place and give it 5 stars. This place is a chain and let me tell you, the quality does not lack. The same feisty cooks that take no gruff produce fine quick Mexican food. My only complaint, not many places to eat and not many spaces to park. It is a busy part of town, so that is to be expected. Not too loud and a great place to eat! read more

I am at a total loss of what is going on with the reviews for. this place. Food: Limited selection and no different from a Chiptole with proteins sitting in warming bins. The difference is that Chipotle has crazy volume, so the bins are typically with still hot recently grilled items. Here? Seems like it was sitting for a while. The cashier/cook took a table spoon of al pastor and dropped it on the flat top. The burrito was then filled to order with some sad looking ingredients. Sorry, but I drove out here due to the reviews and this was a big miss. Service: Two women working the area, both were in the back when I came in, so one had a begrudging look that she had to come out and serve a customer. Then the second followed and they made my burrito. Overall: Place looks like an abandoned bar, with a bar area that needs some work. Not sure if it's a left over from prior place or just not taken care of by current owners. The actual food area/prep/food line is pretty small relative to how much space is not occupied, but that's just an ambiance issue I guess. Sorry but will not be coming back. read more

My 6 year old just gobbled 2 soft tacos and 2 crunchy (hard shell) tacos in less than 5 minutes... truly remarkable tacos offering at an unusual location and decor that was well worth the trip. Great food, quick ordering counter for lunch. I had the hard shell taco platter with black beans and rice. The Al Pastor was tender and very flavorful. The Carne Asada was perfectly cooked and seasoned ( not grisly or too chewy), just perfect! The churro for dessert was warm, crispy on the outside chewy on the inside. Came here for lunch recently for some street tacos. The atmosphere when you walk in is pretty cool. It has a bunch of metal masks and real luchador masks around the restaurant. Super cool feeling. Tip: even though all they show on the menu is combos, you can get tacos by the piece. I was happy to hear this because I can't personally eat 5 tacos in one sitting. If you're sensitive to spice, be warned that the meats seem to be cooked in spices which were hot without even adding any sauces. I got 3 Barbados tacos and the meat was spicy hot. It was super tasty though. The guac is extra for not too much guac but it was very tasty. The horchata is really good. I highly recommend getting one while you're here. You choose what kind of item you want, with the kind of meat, and then you get to choose all your toppings. The food was very delicious and fresh, with large portions. Serrrrrrrrrr...I was in need of some good ole comfort food. And when I say comfort food..i mean good California Mexican food that my Mexican grandfather would approve of. So. I ordered my choice that'll always make me feel okay about the world again. Enchilada Verde. Yeah I know. That's a supposed easy one. Confrair Monfrer! There's no middle ground. It's either yes or no. I stepped up to the counter and ordered. From jump the lady angel behind the counter gave me uber positive "you're gonna love this" vibes. I should have known this wasn't any run of the mill Mexican spot webshe pulled out a baby skillet to heat up my chicken. LET ME TELL YOU!! Whatever she did back there was PURE magic!! Carnitas tacos,the meat is very good. I happen to like hard shell tacos but I like fresh cooked shells. They serve packaged ones so I would get something else. But everything was good. Carne Asada burritos. Dry and wet. Yummy. Sauce on burrito is too hot for many people. Be forewarned. Burrito bowl was good but not very large. Salsa bar needed service.
