The service is excellent. I love the ambiance. It is refreshing to go to a restaurant that is not a tap house! The menu choices are good. We had the pretzel and mustard sauce appetizer. Wasn't terribly impressed the first time we came here, but the second visit was much better. First, the staff was very helpful and understanding when we showed up with one extra person than the reservation we made. We sat outside, but they have lots of heaters set up. Love love love their Mac and cheese! Friendly service and I've enjoyed the taste of everything so far I've had or family/friends had. The ribs were sparse on meat, mostly bone, so I wouldn't order that again for its price. I LOVE their margarita flight!! The only thing that leaves me removing two stars was that the most recent time my family and I were there dining in, the host who was prepping the next day's silverware at the table in the corner, right next to ours, was not wearing her mask while she was rolling them really closely to her face and as she talked a lot to various coworkers who'd sit with her and chat. Her mouth being that directly inches away from patron silverware with spit coming out from normal breathing and lots of talking had me wary of her lack of concern over virus spread. She constantly touched her phone as well while handling the silverware. I normally hate rousing any complaint, but I genuinely don't want anyone getting sick nor do I think Masonry Grill's management would be happy if people started getting sick after eating from their restaurant, nor would they likely want any other paying guests to see the lack of health precaution taken by one of their employees. read more

This is one of my new favorite spots. The food is outstanding, the prices are good for the portions and quality, the menu has lots of variety, and the service is also very good. I love that they have so many fry options, and if you want, you can order a mix of all of them as a side. I highly recommend the Soy Ginger Wrap. I'm usually not a huge wrap person but my mom ordered it first, I tried a bite, and I had to go back and get it for myself another time. They have a beautiful, decent sized outdoor seating area, and the interior is beautiful as well. read more

Staff was super nice but the food was sub-par for what it costs. I used to think that you couldn't mess up nachos but lo and behold, they proved me wrong. It just wasn't all that great. My husband ordered the French dip and he said the bread was soggy but the meat was dry and cold, the au ju was good, and the fries were good but you can tell they weren't made fresh. On the possitive side, the restaurant looks amazing and the service was excellent. I really wish I could say the same for the food. I ordered their grilled chicken alfredo and it was a total disapointment. The alfredo sauce had no depth of flavor and the chicken looked like and tasted like it was boiled and cut into weirdly shaped squares. The "bread sticks" that came with the dish were cold like they came out of the refridgerator. I recommend the owners step it up and do it quick! The atmosphere is very modern. Very clean. We had dinner with our son and his wife and we all enjoyed it very much. Our server was a super nice guy; attentive but not pesky. Our daughter-in-law had a fruity cocktail ( I can't remember the name) something with berry in the name and it had gin in it. She really liked it. My husband is a Manhattan coni suer, it's his favorite cocktail and he knows a good one when he tastes it. He said theirs was the best he'd ever had! He also had an Old Fashioned and it was spot on. Our son had a beer and the BBQ Burger, his wife had the Grilled Caesar Salad, I had the Beef Tacos and my husband had the Bavette (sp?) Steak. All of it was awesome! Bill was just over $100 for 4 entrees, 3 cocktails, and an IPA beer, and very worth it! Highly recommend this place! We will be back. read more

been here a few times, it's decent, would give 3.5 stars if i could. brussel sprout app is good, though it needed 1 more minute to crisp up the outter leaves. i dig the breakfast burger (without the bun), others in my party liked the bevette steak (i found it under-seasoned), & the butternut ravioli portion was so small (6 ravioli) that it was lucky that person had also ordered a side salad. service was slow, particularly considering there were only a few other tables on a weeknight. noticed they no longer have their video poker/lottery machines in a back room. Restaurant was clean and service was prompt. My wife and I had the Fried Brussel Sprouts and found then salty and very tough, like they had not been cooked long enough. She had the Pulled Pork Sandwich with the waffle fries and both were awesome, she said. The sandwich was flavorful and the fries were crispy and not greasy. I had the Yakisoba Salad with chicken and if I get it in the future, I will NOT add the soy ginger dressing: it was heavily salted and that ruined the salad. I went on what appeared to be opening night. The physical space is very impressive. The owners clearly invested a significant amount of money in renovating the building. It has much more natural light and should open up to the outdoors during the warm-weather months. It still feels a little bit like a work-in-progress, however, with few wall hangings, some open space in the back apparently serving as a storage area, and an entrance area that could use some finishing touches. It will likely be a loud space. The menu is standard higher-end Oregon pub grub fare. The beer selection is excellent. I ordered the burger with tater tots. The tater tots were perfect! Golden and crispy -- very hard to stop eating. The burger was mediocre. It was advertised as coming with a "special sauce" -- they hardly put any on. The biggest issue with this place, however, is the service. It was completely haphazard. Nobody at the bar knew who was supposed to take my order. The bartenders looked completely harried and confused. While trying to order, my bartender was distracted by two different things. The two televisions were on random channels (not live sporting events) -- clearly no one was paying attention. I had to ask for salt & pepper, ketchup, and silverware. Nothing came without me asking for it; no needs were anticipated. The ketchup is served in a small ceramic bowl, which is much classier than serving it in a half-full bottle with crusty ketchup around the lid. The problem, however, is that they keep the pre-filled bowls of ketchup in a fridge in the kitchen (rather than behind the bar), so it took 5 minutes to get my ketchup after being served my burger. The burger also did not come with a steak knife, which made it difficult to cut in half. I fully understand that opening night can be crazy, but this place should have invested in training its servers better before opening. Hopefully it will do so in the future. read more

I'll pass next time. I recently went here after reading to mediocre reviews, I thought it looked cool and wanted to give it a chance for myself. We went at lunch time and the place was dead maybe 3 other tables, but yet service was slow, so slow we were scrounging to see if we had enough cash on us to pay and leave. The food was just okay, nothing special or extra tasty, just underwhelming. I think it was one of the few times I felt like leaving my leftovers instead of taking them to go. I really think they could use some work on curating a better menu, maybe quit trying to be mediocre at a bunch of things and be good at a few. This place seems like it has the right ingredients to be a fun happy hour if they worked on the food and drinks a bit more! read more

Lunch. Ordered Cesar salad, added chicken. Came two Romain spears wilted from grilling. Topping dropped on top. No way to eat this. Asked for a simple bowl of chopped lettuce and was refused. Friends Cobb sales had brown lettuce, though it was at least chopped. My water glass was dirty. Your chef is not willing to chop me some lettuce? Get over yourself. I won't be back. read more

Did not read reviews prior, didnt know this place existed, used to be a spaghetti place here. We were just driving around and my wife saw it. So we tried it. It seemed sparse, little unorganized, found out its been open less than a month. Ok. Got an appertizer, "cakes.". Very good. But as soon as the appetizer was set down, the meal came. Ouch, this is the first thing you do NOT do in a resteraunt. So the food. Burger for me, risotto for the wife. Excellent. Oops, wheres my salad dressing?? Lol. We will definitely go again. Masonry Grill has a wonderful atmosphere, bar and potential. I hope to see it realize the latter soon. Drinks are generous and well priced. Tonight we had the Mango Drop and a Masonry Punch and for appetizer, Nachos with chicken. For dinner, our party of 3 ordered The Cluck, Fettuccine Alfredo with chicken and Lasagna. Well... the nachos were good. The Cluck, a crispy chicken sandwich, recommended by staff, is just that. Nothing special. Curly fries were said to be good. Lasagna? Who the heck uses steak on lasagna?? Prego sauce, over cooked noodles and steak.. steak! Save this choice for OG, you'll be happier. Fettuccine Alfredo had little cream but more of a milky, runny sauce and chicken from a can, Chicken of the Sea style. And very little of that, even. Sigh. Inquiry about menu and questions about food brought only blank looks from staff. Price for all was $81. So not bad for 3 people but quality was disappointing. With so many wonderful choices available in downtown Salem, Masonry Grill will need to step up their game. I would however, recommend the appetizer and drink menus. I will be back if just for these. My wife and I had high hopes for this place, but sadly, no dice. I was quite excited to see that they had a monte cristo on the menu, however the thrill of victory quickly turned into the agony of defeat when my meal arrived. My idea of a monte cristo is a sandwich that is batter-dipped, dusted with powdered sugar and served with a side of preserves or compote for dipping. The sandwich that came to the table was none of those things and basically looked like a school cafeteria meal. I've eaten many monte cristos and this was pretty much the saddest excuse for one I've ever encountered. Fortunately the accompanying tater tots and beer were good, hence the two stars. All I can say is whoever came up with this place's menu needs to go to the Purple Parrot in Reno, NV and order the monte cristo so that they can see how it's supposed to be done. The waitress was friendly but not very attentive. Oh yeah, my wife got a pizza and it was underwhelming at best. With so many good dining options in Salem, there's no reason to ever go back. read more

The space is large and acoustically very live and loud. The open kitchen contributes to the noise. There's a cafeteria atmosphere in the area where they majority of the tables are located (no table decorations at all). We sat in a booth-- some of the booths have electrical outlets (sweet). We had the Brussels Sprouts to start. Nicely plated, good combination of ingredients, but evidently a trainee in the kitchen thought it was a good idea to heavily salt a dish that was already salty with bacon and cheese. Yuck. Our drinks arrived next, and they were okay. The ribs come with a fabulous cilantro lime coleslaw that might be the best thing we ate. The Brick Chicken was decent tasting (although I'm not a fan of burned food-- see picture-- I try to avoid carcinogens in general). My husband said the ribs were good. Dessert was bread pudding. It came with a nice vanilla bean ice cream, but was not pudding-like at all. (They had run out of Death by Chocolate). Prices are high for the quality. Well intentioned, but we will wait awhile to return after they work out the kinks. Service was outstanding. In fact, our server was the one truly bright spot of the experience. read more

I was not happy at all with the food or service . They put bacon on my fries when I told them not to. They did not give me another plate of fries all they did was pick the bacon off totally not acceptable. My burger came back raw when I asked them to do it well done. We LOVE everything Chef Sam has to offer! We went for the grand opening this evening and everything was incredible! My kids loved their Mac n cheese and my Risotto with bacon and shrimp was soo good! My friend had the pomodoro which was really flavorful but still light! Cocktails by Bree we're perfectly balanced with fresh fruit purée! Wish we had room to try the bread pudding or homemade ice cream sandwich! Can't wait for my next visit to try more of the menu! read more

Went on a friday night and it was busy. The service was not very good. The atmosphere was loud and I understand some people enjoy that. The food was not very good: the tots are simple tots like you would buy and cook in the oven at home, the burger patty was pretty hard, the smashed potatoes were not tasty and were actually very dry, the ribs had to be cut apart with a steak knife and were quite tough, the side salad was lettuce and two slices of tomato and nothing else, the chicken tacos were ok, the steak was just ok, and when we asked about the broccolini we were told it was just broccoli but actually came out with peppers, mushrooms, etc. We will likely not try our luck there again any time soon. read more

My husband and I went to Masonry for lunch shortly after they opened in November and had a great experience. We were there around 2:00, so the restaurant wasn't crowded. The food was really good--I'd call it elevated pub food--and the service couldn't have been better, friendly and attentive without being overbearing. There were vegetarian options, too, which is always appreciated. We're both looking forward to going back--I suspect Masonry Grill will become one of the few go-to restaurants we choose from. read more

Very new restaurant to Salem, and It kind of shows. Not complaing though, I was please with the over-all vibe of the place, I enjoyed the decor/atmosphere. The servers were pleasant and attentive. However it does seem like they are still adjusting. Figuring out some kinks. Our drinks were wonderful, we just had an appetizer of the fried brussel sprouts. Some were a little over, some were a little too fried crisp, but very delicious in flavor and the addition of blue cheese was a nice surprise.
