Hot Pastrami Sandwich
Ross J.

I've only been here the one time but it was very good. I asked the waitress her recommendations and I went with the Pastrami melt. Seems to have a very local demographic which made it feel very relatable.

Welcomed and server was very personable and attentive. Got a Reuben with fries and a PBR. I didn't use the bathrooms. The fries were cut fresh and there were HOT!!!! Thank you First off--not pure rye bread but that sounds class of swirled stuff. I'm not a fan. The Reuben was hot with I think home dressed cabbage and some thousand island. It was ok a little dry and I honestly couldn't tell if there was cheese. The meat was thin, not juicy, and didn't seem especially fresh. I guess for the price I shouldn't expect more meat. I'll go out on a limb and say the cook is not aroused by a good Reuben. I will go back, just try something different.

Landed in Salem a few weeks ago and was looking for a bar that had great service, food, parking AND pool. I wasn't really expecting much when I walked in the door at Johnny's. I struck out in my visits to other bars in the neighborhood, but this bar was different. Not only did Mara and McKenzie go above and beyond welcoming this newbie, the food was fantastic! I had the flat iron steak the first night - flavorful and perfectly medium rare and have retuned a few times for the fettuccine alfredo (pictured here). SO good! Although there aren't many pool players, the tables are decent (though need a thorough cleaning, leveling and more chalk), I hope to see more challengers in the future. This bar is damn near perfect!

Place is a hole in the wall. They have a complete bar. You can watch sports or play pool. Friendly staff and the chicken fried steak is yummy. Glad we found this place

Lots of TVs

We came here to watch the Seahawks game and have some drink and dinner and Johnny's was perfect for it! There were a ton of TVs to watch the game, really good food, and great service. We ordered a veggie plate as an appetizer and all the veggies were super fresh and crisp. We were happy there was a healthy option for an appetizer. We ordered a BBQ chicken wrap to share for dinner and it was really tasty! The veggies in it were as fresh as the veggie plate and the chicken and bacon were really tasty. The fries also tasted fresh cut and fried. Johnny's is great for dinner, watching your favorite sports team, or just grabbing drinks with your friends.

Stopped in to have Beer ,Minor Pond beer. A little expensive $5.50 for a beer ,most places 4.00 to 5.00 dollars..The food was nice looking that came from the kitchen. I'll try something different next time here. The Nacho's are big, one order for 4 people easy. I have had this dish here before.

The Mac and cheese that gave me explosive diahrea and had me vomiting several times about 45 min to an hour after consuming..thx 4 nothin

So I went here for the first time a few weeks back and I'm pretty sure I got food poisoning from this place..we came in just before 10 pm and were informed they don't serve food after 10 but since it technically wasn't 10 pm yet that we could out in an order.. waitress was awkward and weird about it. The food looked okay and I had a couple of drinks that were strong but whatever happened with me afyer I left the establishment an hour later was out of this world. I experienced all symptoms of food poisoning..i have never experienced anything more disgusting and memorable after eating out. I had the Mac and cheese and my friend had a burger, and was fine. Not sure what happened regarding me but it wasn't a lucky night and makes me never want to come back to drink or do anything let alone eat. Drinks were strong and I like the video poker, and bar staff was great.

Their prices have gone sky high and the service has gone downhill. They were very rude to us. They lost a couple of good loyal customers.

The establishment is lovely; the decor is modern and clean with cute Wolfhound art featured throughout. We ordered the featured Jalapeño Popper Smash: two smash patties with habanero ghost pepper jack cheese, pomegranate bacon jam, cream cheese spread, serrano aioli, and pickled jalapeños on a toasted pretzel bun. While we waited, we sipped on a well cocktail. The burger was incredible--innovative and very well thought out. The service was prompt and engaging. I can really tell the staff has a passion for everything they do; it's very refreshing and definitely deserves a shot and repeated business!

Comfy chairs. Lower lighting, well placed. Service was excellent, friendly and fast. I think our server's name was Mikayla; a gem. Attentive and observant but never intrusive. Drinks: my old fashioned was absolutely perfect and my husband's margarita was fine. Appetizers: beer cheese was well balanced and a bit runny, which I prefer over the library paste version some places serve. The elotes dip was a standout, mildly spicy, with lime in the cilantro, and warm, crispy chips. (Whatever is in their seasoning for chips and fries should be sold separately -- I wanted to try it on everything.) We probably should have stopped there, as the portions were abundant, but our mains were amazing. Smash burger was insanely juicy, nice and onion-y with a few Crunchy Brown Bits around the edges. The roll was fresh and tender, with a good crust; flavorful, not just a shingle. The fries were the best I've had in Salem. Get the garlic-thyme upgrade; you won't regret it. My ribeye was cooked perfectly. Unfortunately they were out of both compound butters, apparently due to a busy Friday, but everything was well seasoned. The vegetable of the day was roasted Brussels sprouts with a sweet-and-salty sauce, almost like kettle corn; amazing. The outer leaves were caramelized without being burned, and the hearts were tender but not mushy. Crispy fried onions were perfect. Fried potatoes were fine, and enriched by their placement between the steak and the sprouts. The diners who came in before us were all smiles when they left, so it wasn't a fluke. Can't wait to come back!

The wings and empanadas were both tasty, and we enjoyed our first round of drinks. The atmosphere was lively, but I do wish the music had been turned down a bit during the fight. It was difficult to hear what was happening, which was the main reason we were there. The bar has some nice extras, including an upstairs area with pool tables and a back room with slot machines, giving people plenty to do. Service was decent when it wasn't busy, but once the crowd picked up, it took quite a while to get drinks and eventually close out our tab. There was also some confusion with our bill. My husband had already paid for our food and first round of beers on a separate tab, but our server wasn't aware of it and initially tried to charge me for items that had already been paid for. We were able to get it sorted out, but it was a little frustrating. Overall, it was a good experience, and I can see why people enjoy it. It's just not really my scene, so I probably won't be back. That said, if you're looking for a lively bar with games, drinks, and a younger crowd, it may be right up your alley.

They do not do bbq anymore due to lack of demand. Understandable. We were then given the choice of a burger or wings. Nothing else. Then some sides/appetizers options, which were hand written on an order slip. 2. We went at about 6pm our beers were super foamy. The bartender said that the co2 is weird with the first pours of the day. So a bit annoying. 3. We ordered mozzarella sticks and as an appetizer then the burgers. It took 35 mins for us to receive our burgers then the mozzarella sticks came out. The mozzarella sticks were cold inside. 4. The burgers were very basic bbq bacon ranch burgers. They cook personally came out and raved about how he came up with this recipe and was the best in the northwest. It was just bbq sauce mixed with some ranch. He also came out asking what we wanted on it and then proceeded to forget our tomato's.

Since then, and on a less busy day, The Vault has cleaned up beautifully. The barman was welcoming and quick on his feet. The sign out front read "BBQ is ready" and, sure enough, when I asked for the run-down, he talked me through the spread. In the end, a 1-meat 1-side plate won out. I requested the brisket (which was great, and generously portioned, though a bit dry to be the best in town) and the street corn (which was incredible, and definitely the best in town). It seems BBQ is becoming a competitive business in Salem! The Vault is keeping up with the best of them, but here's the real kicker: the plate came out to only $15. For meat of that caliber and quantity, not to mention the elotes, that's beyond a steal. If The Vault continues to offer this level of quality in service, food, and drink, any early-days missteps while finding their footing will be drowned out by the good times they roll out. I hope they can keep this momentum and continue to offer exceptional service complementary to great good and drink.

The house-made tartar and fry sauces were very good. A full house kept the staff busy, but they were still attentive and friendly. A band was about four songs into their set when I left. The house sound system does a great job of making sure everyone can hear the band, but the overall noise level was such that folks had to shout to have a conversation. They do post an entertainment schedule, so if you go there to visit with friends, do it when there are no bands playing. From prior experience, I highly recommend the "Dave's Insane" sandwich.
