Ordered for 3 to go. Food was cold and not prepared as ordered. Lobster bisque was lukewarm, lobster Mac and cheese was a very sparse portion certainly a price far greater than the portion served. Amazing customer service upon walking in, I was immediately greeted when I walked up to the counter to order, which is always a plus! I have been eyeing this restaurant for a while, so when I finally had the chance to get me a lobster roll I couldn't resist! This was my first time ever trying a lobster roll and I am hooked! The bun was warm, soft and buttery, there was a good amount of lobster to bread ratio, which made me happy! Now I will say the lobster roll is smaller than I thought it would be but the flavor and the roll itself is worth the 20 bucks. Will I go here often? Delicious lobster and crab rolls. The crab bites were also good but I actually loved the remoulade even more. The lobster bisque was disappointing (not very viscous or flavorful, plus you definitely have to add lobster meat if you want any texture) but the rolls were so good that I didn't care. I got the classic lobster roll ($21) and it was made in about 10 minutes. The lobster was great and tasted amazing with the butter and lemon. The bread was buttered and toasted. I really enjoyed the sandwich but the size is definitely a little small which made me want to get two to actually fill me up. Inside was a bit small and they had some patio space outside. It looks like my experience wasn't common but I got the warm lobster roll and I stopped eating it half way through. It was really bad. However there was no butter or anything on it so maybe that was the issue. Just disappointing to pay over $20 for a small lobster roll and it not be good enough to finish. read more

I've been to the northeast once before and definitely crave a good lobster roll from time to time, which Mason's Famous Lobster Roll meets that satisfaction. We chose to order Mason's soup combo, which consisted of $1 off one of Mason's famous lobster rolls and choice of soup between lobster bisque or clam chowder. We decided to get the class roll (lobster served chilled with light may & lemon butter) and clam chowder. The bread roll was crispy and buttery. There were decent sized lobster chunks. I personally would have enjoyed it with a little more mayo to make it creamier. The lobster roll also came with a pickle that was crunchy and juicy. Clam chowder was delicious and creamy. It would have been nice to have a little more clams since there were a lot of potatoes. Customer service was 10/10. The employee was very accommodating and offered to cut our lobster roll in half, since we were sharing one for a light bite. She also gave us two bags of the oyster crackers for our one soup. First of all, the customer service was 10/10! They were all so nice! The place is a little small but it was clean for the most part. No complaints there. We got the classic lobster roll, the crab roll, the clam chowder, and the lobster bisque. It is an extra $6 to add lobster meat to the bisque but it was worth it. It was delicious. Clam chowder was just okay. The butter on the rolls were 10000000/10!!! To me, that was the best part. The crab roll was a little sweet and had a very strong lemon flavor. Mason's is now on my list of go-to's to satisfy a lobster roll craving. There was a fair portion of lobster in the roll and mac & cheese. I thought the lobster roll size was slightly larger than some competitors and priced at $20 which is cheaper than most. I liked that the roll came with a pickle because it helped contrast the butter. The mac & cheese was too runny for our taste but it has potential and was still enjoyable. It's a casual place with limited indoor seating and waiting space. They do have some outdoor seating available, which I would recommend to get some fresh air away from the kitchen smells. Got take out from Mason's recently after seeing it in passing and wanting to try it out. Forgot to take a picture once I got home but I got the Connecticut and husband got a warm crab roll. Both were simple, yummy and just what you would expect. Happy to have a place to get a good lobster roll in Midlothian. We ended up getting tots and the lobster Mac and cheese as sides. Our order total was about $70. I know lobster rolls are always pretty expensive so I wasn't mad at the price but it'd be nice to have a side included even if it added a couple dollars for a meal price. If I went back I'd get the rolls and skip the sides because they were lackluster compared to the sandwiches. The restaurant was clean and decorated for St. Patrick's day, and the staff were sweet to my toddler who was pretty inquisitive while we were waiting. They were seasoned well, though. Just needed a little longer in the fryer. The whoopie pie was a delicious sweet treat to finish off the meal. Based on food alone, I'd rate Mason's a solid 4.5 stars. The cost of dining here knocked down my rating considerably, unfortunately. A combo meal with a classic lobster roll, coleslaw and a drink is $25.20, and choosing tots means shelling out $27.70. Add in the whoopie pie and you're spending almost $65 on lunch for two. At that price point, I don't see us visiting Mason's very often. Mason's is coming to Short Pump soon and I'm really excited about this expansion. The Mason's team has a food truck which they brought to Innsbrook. This allowed me to finally try them without making the trek all the way down to Midlothian. I had the classic with fries, which set me back about $30. The sandwich was solid. The bread was toasted and buttery and there was ample lobster meat. My order was ready in just a few short minutes. I enjoyed my sandwich; the fries were just alright. I'm looking forward to the new store opening but imagine I'll be an occasional customer. $30 for lunch is a little on the high side but I recognize that lobster isn't cheap anywhere. read more

It's a nice option to have in Midlothian since I don't love a deli sandwich! I got the Lobster Salad roll, the mayo, celery and lemon were light, but surprisingly flavorful. I've learned that while I love to eat whole lobster in drawn butter ... I don't love a warm lobster roll, it's just not as flavorful as a cold lobster roll. I also tried the clam chowder, it wasn't bad, but is it bad for me to say that the Clam Shack's refrigerated clam chowder you can get at Costco/BJ's/Sam's club is chunkier and tastier? At any rate, it was good to try, not sure I would frequent it all the time as I think getting something like a poke bowl I get more bang for my buck, it's actually cheaper! You can not go wrong with the lobster rolls here, if lobster isn't quite you're thing, crazy, but they do offer crab rolls and shrimp rolls. The rolls are buttery as werll as toasted and you ca get your protein hot or cold as well depending on your preferences. They have some combos depending on if you want size and or a drink. I did see they had a single dessert option, the whoopie pie if you want a little sweet treat. The clam chowder was good, lots of hearty chunks and piping hot with some oyster crackers. Standard fountain drinks and a small assortment of beers. The staff here are friendly and upbeat, the parking lot is a decent size, no problem with parking and the prices are standard for seafood so it is not super cheap. I think two combos were a little over 60 bucks, so don't be surprised, but the meal itself was delicious. I would come here again if given the opportunity. read more

We ordered a variety of items for take out, they were very quick and our order was waiting for us on the pick-up shelf when we arrived. We ordered the classic roll, Connecticut roll, crab roll, lobster salad roll, lobster mac & cheese, potato salad, clam chowder and lobster bisque. Overall, we enjoyed the meal. There was a good amount of filling in the rolls and seemed fresh. My favorite was the lobster salad roll, it had very good flavor although the description said that it had celery in it but it didn't look like there were any in ours. I was not a fan of either the clam chowder or lobster bisque. Both of them were running (not thick as noted in the description) and it was a bit sour tasting. I've had better elsewhere. The first thing I thought about when I saw a lobster roll joint open up in Midlothian... how much is this going to cost!? I glanced at the prices on the website and turned around lol. After a while I changed my mind, because how often do you get to try a full lobster roll in the Richmond area? I got the Connecticut Roll (Served Hot) for $20. This place is straight to the point. Lobster, butter, and bread. No seasoning, nothing on the side, no customer service, all on a sub that was no bigger than 4 inches. Now don't get me wrong, I love lobster and this was "good", but I appreciate it more when restaurants set themselves apart. For that price, as a person who enjoys flavorful cajun seafood, I don't see myself coming back for "good" lobster. I rarely leave reviews and I wanted to love this place because I love lobster, but here we are. I got takeout from this restaurant tonight ($50 for tater tots, a very small Connecticut lobster roll, lobster Mac and cheese, and coleslaw). The lobster on both the roll and the Mac and cheese was absolutely terrible. Like to the point where I personally couldn't stomach it, so I tried to give it to my dogs....and not even my dog would eat it (video included for proof). The lobster was sour and VERY, VERY fishy tasting with a strong fishy/combined with a chemical-like odor. And yes I realize it's seafood but this tasted next level bad, like a well past expiration date fish. The texture was either mushy or rubbery depending on the chunk. Additionally, the cole slaw was awful and tasted spoiled and the tots were so underdone that they were mushy and all clumped together. Please do not waste your money on this place - I am stunned by all the positive reviews with how bad my experience was; perhaps I was given less than optimal food as a takeout order? There was also not another soul in the restaurant today when I picked up at 6:15PM.......I honestly don't have a single nice thing to say about this food. Maybe the bread and butter on the lobster roll was good? However, the staff were very polite and the food was packaged well. PS please don't tell me you hope I have a better experience when I come back. I won't be back and honestly deserve a refund on my food from this evening. Worst lobster roll. For the price to eat at this establishment it is hard to believe that they could mess it up. The taste of the roll is like they found the lobster in its death bed then steamed it to serve. The lobster bisque was not creamy and looks like it was separating. Would definitely not recommend. Well, I've been to Mason's a couple of times and have had a great experience in the past in terms of customer service and the delicious lobster but this last visit didn't go well at all. There was only one person working several customers inside the restaurant it took at least 10 minutes for him to even acknowledge me I know he was working, but you could say hey I'll be with you as soon as I can. I got it to go and the food was good but if I'm gonna pay $30 for a meal that's at a "fast food seafood" I think that deserves some great customer service. I visited the Midlothian Virginia location today. Disappointed in portion. I ordered the Roll with extra lobster tail but I didnt know doing so meant I would be slighted the normal roll meat. It looked liked a spoonful of lobster & button on a large roll. And, I know it's added to meal but if serving fresh seafood add a fresh pickle. I do not know what it was I was given for a pickle. Also please train workers that it's more polite to ask how you doing when first greeting customers and not when you at the payment screen for a tip. Shame! Went in with high expectations; it was too busy but there was a line. There was also live entertainment outside which made it fun. It was clean and the folks working were very nice I ordered the Connecticut (buttered/toasted lobster roll) and clam chowder. The roll was good;the only complaint is the ratio of roll to lobster; way too much roll -it was ok. I was,however ,disappointed by the chowder; it wasn't great. It was missing something and it wasn't thick enough.
