Nice looking restaurant with ample parking. Visited for lunch and had the special-2 rolls. In perusing the menu, I asked the server if the California roll had real crab. I was informed that it was imitation crab and passed on it in favor of a tuna and a salmon roll both of which were fine. Still disappointed that the restaurant would use imitation anything and not state that in the menu. Seems a little dishonest. Also, they didn't have a little dish to mix wasabi with the soy sauce in. Instead, the server brought over a little plastic cup that looked like it came out of a Burger King! Server said the dishes were broken and had to order new ones! Strange, right? read more

My husband and I came here for lunch and it wasn't that busy at all. Easy place to find with lots of parking. Very nice waitstaff and quick to serve you. There were lunch specials which was nice because ramen was on there and cheaper than normal. We both got the chicken shoyu ramen and it was FULL, HUGE & DELICIOUS! This is probably my 4th review of this place and I'm sorry to say the quality has declined. Spicy ramen wasn't as tasty or as spicy as I remember and the fried chicken was way overcooked. I've only been here a few times in the last couple of years (it's like a 90 minute drive each way for me) but I love the ramen here. I think I mainly get the miso ramen and I'm never disappointed with it. A couple of things have tainted my experiences here, though. I usually just drink the water provided to the table, but the last time I went I sprung for a soda because I wanted to have the flavor juxtaposition between sweet soda and savory ramen, which sounded delightful in my head. I was assuming for $3 that it would be a fountain drink and I'd get free refills... and yet I was wrong. Once the waitress sat a $3 can of soda on the table with a cup for me to use, I should have realized I still had the chance to hand the unopened can back over and just hop back on the water train. I didn't want to cause a complication, so ultimately I just went with it. But $3 for a can of soda? No, sir. I will not be revisiting the soda there! At the end of this soda confusion visit, the restaurant was set to close at 3:30 (I got the time off of a source online and double checked the hours on the door when I came in), and my dining partner and I had finished eating so we were trying to figure out if we wanted to drive to a brewery once we left. I was conscious of the time, and I knew we were the only ones in the restaurant still, but we were hoping to just digest for a few minutes in the warmth (it was mid January, mind you) and come up with a decision. By 3:15, the waitress comes over to our table and tells us the restaurant is closed... which I found to be pretty off-putting. We apologized, I told her I checked the closing times online and on the door, and she just smiled awkwardly at me and ushered us outside. Like, okay, if the closing time was earlier than the times posted everywhere... they need to update their signs. If the door isn't updated with the correct hours, I don't see how it's my fault or that I should be made to feel bad, and then rushed out the door? I don't know, it just left a sour taste in my mouth and resulted in us feeling so put off that we canceled our other plans and drove the 90 minutes back home. EDITED TO ADD A CORRECTION: With the business owner getting back to me, I clearly must have remembered my closing time incorrectly! That being said, if the restaurant closed at 3 (it probably did, it's been several months since my visit so I'm not surprised I didn't get the exact time right), we were still told it was closed before the official closing time and still ushered out. And the reason I firmly stand with this fact is that, once getting outside, we both checked the door for a triple check of the close time and it was 15 minutes prior to 3 pm. read more

Came in for lunch with my boyfriend and though the heat was out that day, the staff was still accommodating and had heaters at the table. Personally, the cold weather was perfect for the ramen. The classic ramen was SO good! The broth was amazing and the pork was nice and tender, I even asked for more pork because it was so city. The Takara Gyoza apps were good as well. I am conflicted if I wish this place was either much closer to me so I could eat it every day, or much further away so my wallet wouldn't hate me. The people are beyond friendly, the food is delicious, the portions are generous. Even the music is awesome. The classic ramen is soooooo good, The creamy crab croquettes are completely unique and awesome in my opinion. They are very crunchy on the outside, but super creamy on the inside, they are kind of like biting into a bowl of clam chowder. The sushi is yummy and fresh. The weekday specials are a steal. This place has become our go-to ramen spot in Midlo. Excellent flavor, never very crowded, servers are attentive, and happy hour is great! Do yourself a favor and try them out. They have a pretty big menu and I think it's worth trying the full spectrum, but honestly I ordered the spicy ramen on our first visit and I've never felt like deviating. It is really just too good, and I don't say that lightly. We've never had a long wait on weeknights or Fridays. Everyone who comes here is generally pretty calm and quiet. Decor is sleek and clean. First of all, I love that there is a secondary location right off the highway for easy access. Second, I love that they have a few sushi rolls. Third, I love their foods! This one is a bit different from the original - the original location on Broad has the whole crew greeting you when you walk in. They also used to allow guests to sit where the ramen was being prepared, behind a partition of course, but I don't know if that changed after covid because this location definitely doesn't seem to offer that option. This location has a more extended bar and it seems like it could have been a great bar spot but I have to admit that their marketing on that is probably not promoted enough and they don't seem to have a regular bartender anyway. Other than that, the place is always nice and quiet and makes for a nice dinner spot. This visit, I had the spicy miso ramen and the salmon avocado roll. Both were super good but I do wish they offered a few more rolls under $10. It's a great complement to the ramen, which can be rich. The service here is always wonderful and I really have no complaints except I do wish they played some music outside and maybe allowed the windows to be less tinted. I'm a big fan of ramen. It's one of the foods I live for. My good friends live close to this place and every time I visit, I make them come here with me. It's the second best ramen I've had. The eggs are soaked in soy. You get all of the more unique furnishings most ramen joints don't put in. The broth has a wonderful, deep flavor with plenty of fat. The pork has additional flavor (this is what will typically separate mid ramen from high-end). Noodles from top to bottom with a good texture. I believe their classic ramen is a Tonkotsu. I've had their Miso as well awhile back. All of it is sure to please. They have a wonderful selection of Sake for those who enjoy. Highly recommend the sampler. I just missed happy hour, but honestly my yuzu soda was pretty solid -fresh and not too sweet- so I have no complaints there. The menu selection is a little hit or miss, though. If you were looking for a ramen restaurant, it's not bad. If you were looking for a sushi restaurant, it's not good. My spicy miso ramen was very generous on the pork, and had an absolutely perfect egg with a jelly yolk. The chashu bun was tasty too, on a nice springy steam bun. My definition of spicy in theirs don't quite match up though, so if you want hot, bring extra chili oil from home. The atmosphere itself is definitely more fast food cafeteria and sports bar than cozy ramen joint. It's an inescapably cavernous space, but the echoing pop music doesn't add much, nor do the dangling (not all functioning) strings of lights. The art is cute, though, and softens the space a little, where the advertisements on the wall for various specials don't so much. Tried the new Takara in Westchester Commons on Friday Night. Used to live by the West Broad location and LOVED it so was excited to have one on this side of town too! We came in a little before 6pm and were seated right away! Happy hour everyday 4:30-7:30! Great bar seating and plenty of tables! We ordered soy garlic edamame, the classic ramen and the miso ramen. Service was timely and positive! We ordered all our food at once, and our ramen came out before the edamame. So if you like your meal served in courses, order that way too! No kid's menu but after the meal ended, than the server explained how parents order an extra bowl of just noodles and share their broth, instead I wasted $16.00 on broth for my Five year old. This was our first visit to this Takara location. Out of the four of us, one person in our group had visited the location in Henrico. They spoke highly of the place so we decided to give this location a try. While it was mostly enjoyed, two of the dishes were a bit bland and we felt like we were charged for every thing. I didn't expect to be charged for spice in my broth, but it is what it is. I will say we enjoyed or sushi rolls the most. Service was not that great, it felt like you had to constantly ask for things. There was also plenty of space but for some reason they wanted to sit diners on top of one another. Bae and I found Takara, while out riding and looking for something different to eat. They have a really nice and quaint outdoor seating area and the windows have that cool silver tint on the outside so you can't see in. We had the Inari Sushi as an appetizer which was delicious. Just the right amount of sweetness. We also ordered the Sake Sampler and a Mai Tai(OMG strong af). I ordered the Classic Ramen with chicken(that broth though!) and Bae had the Yaki Soba with chicken(slight sweetness). Both entrees were delicious and we cleaned our plate/bowl. When this place first opened up it was way better than the West Broad St location and I'd go out of my way to drive 30 mins here instead of 10 mins to the closer location for me in Henrico. However the quality and consistency for this place has gone downhill. I took a friend who didn't have ramen before to this location and the ramen I got was mediocre, about a year ago. First off they used to give 2 pieces of chashu pork belly in their ramen. They only gave me one piece of chashu and I used to order extra for 2 additional pieces. But they charge you $3 for an extra piece of chashu. I decided for my dining experience fine why not and then when I start eating my ramen the chashu is very tough not tender at all. Not to mention they increased the prices ridiculously while giving you way less. I've been to ramen restaurants in Northern Virginia and paid $15-18 for a bowl of ramen. Which I'm fine with but those restaurants don't skimp out on portions like the ones in Richmond. I can get 4-5 pieces of chashu or even 6-7 depending on the ramen dish in northern Virginia. I've decided to refrain from getting ramen anywhere in Richmond and keep my cravings for trips to Northern Virginia. I recommend anyone that thinks this place is good to check out Hokkaido Santouka in Tyson's to enjoy quality ramen and not something done half-heartedly. read more
