    Market Prices

Crustacean used to be my favorite seafood boil place! When they were in the smaller building the boils were filled with loads of seafood, sausages, corn, potatoes and magic dust galore. Well, since they have expanded and moved to a bigger space they have decreased the amount of food and the seafood is no longer spilling on to the table. The bags are still big, but the size portions have lessened. I'm not sure if Market Price has risen, but for the price I would rather take the 40 minute drive to the ocean. I usually order down by the river, but during my visit it was more like down by the pond. The only perk was the sweet cornbread that taste like a cross between yellow cake and cornbread. The service was decent and the waitress was friendly. She couldn't help the portion size because she's not a cook, owner or manager. I understand that prices rise, but I think the food was better in the smaller building. Sometimes keeping it small and having people wait hours with their mouths watering is more beneficial than expanding and having people leave hungry and feeling robbed.

Still on hold...(from the sound of it - at the bar)

Enjoy the food (each time that I have visited); however - calling out of convenience for placing a takeout order, then being placed on hold for 45+ minutes....ridiculous. No reverence for customer patronage. Side: Overheard some of the worst professionalism ever. (Re: profanity and jokes about customers, etc.) Bad! Do better - or at least hang up the phone.

I loved this place!! What a great surprise! Would have give 5 stars but the service was a little lacking. I think it was a new server. We split a boil w the 3 types of crab, shrimp, and mussels. It also had sausage potatoes and corn. There was more than enough $30 for all that seafood 2 was a steal!! We also ordered the corn bead. It was the best cake like moist corn bead I've had. I will definitely come back next time I'm in VA.

Stopped by here tonight (Thursday evening 7:20p.m.). My 1st visit here. Service was cool, I forgot the waitress name but she was attentive. I ordered the onion rings for an appetizer, they were a tad bit over cooked. For dinner I ordered the Coops Combo which is basically crab legs and shrimp. I specifically said I didn't want anything spicy. It was recommended I get the garlic and old bay sauce. It was slightly spicy, to the point i wish it wasn't. Spice, for me, Takes the taste away from whatever I'm eating so I was unable to enjoy it as much as I could have. The potatoes were too soft and the shrimp was a little over cook. I didn't eat all the shrimp. The sausage and crab legs were fine. The amount of food I got was worth the price of $30. Next, I visited the restroom to wash my hands. Decided to wait to get home to actually use the bathroom. #seephotos I gave 2 stars after the bathroom visit. Will I visit this establishment again....maybe, I have not decided yet, but definitely no rush.

    Getting ready.

I had heard about Crustacean Boil and Grill a few times and figured it was time to try. I met my family and everyone seems to have had a good enough time. The serving size and price is pretty decent considering the shellfish and crab legs involved. I think we were all surprised the side items like sausage, potatoes, and corn were as minimal as they were, and doubling up for an addition charge still only gets you an additional piece of each. I think this would be a very cost-effective way to serve your customers better. One of my family who had been here one time previously and recently said after eating they left still hungry on their first trip in. Food quality, flavor, and selection were all up to par. Our service was friendly and the restaurant was clean. We lucked out and were one of only a few tables in the whole place. I have a pillar of any business in any type of customer service industry which is to not let a detail in fine print or a small sign posted somewhere take the place of communicating with your customers and neither of those things should be used in place of customer service. Which brings me to not telling anyone at my table that tip is already included. Our tab was several hundred dollars in the end and we began to add another weighted tip on top of that, not noticing tip was already factored in. Fortunately we noticed after a minute or two. I can't find any possible excuse as to why you wouldn't tell your diners this in advance. To me it amounts to lying and stealing quite honestly in hopes that your customers won't notice and you might run the chance of receiving up to 40% tip just because they failed to notice the * at the bottom of the menu (which I assume was there, I actually never noticed). The must more reputable way to go would be to be up front with your table, serve them knowing your tip is already guaranteed and if anything, try to provide excellent service and inspire them to add something additional at the end of their meal as a reward well earned and deserved. This to me speaks to the character and culture of a business and leans into a way of doing business that keeps my from supporting you. To make a one-time quick buck at the cost of your reputation is something I can't decide for another person nor a business owner, but to me this comes at the cost of your reviews. I would have probably given 4 stars should things have gone differently. Honestly and my trust in the establishment is too important when your'e serving me and my family food.

    House Bag with HMD

First time visiting this establishment. I was super excited because I have always wanted to check the place out. We came for dinner on a Wednesday, not long after they opened for the evening. Upon walking in, we were immediately greeted and seated. It was not crowded at the time. The atmosphere was nice. The music selection was a lot of hip-hop/rap music, (which I personally don't mind). Our waitress appeared not long after we got situated. She was knowledgeable and kind. I skimmed through the menu debating whether I wanted to make my own bag or a preset bag. Since I wasn't sure what to expect, I ordered their House bag which had 1/2 pound of the following: shrimp, crawfish, clams, mussels, corn, sausage and red potatoes. I chose the House Magic Dust seasoning since I read and heard so many great things of the combo of all of their seasonings. I opted out of adding any heat since I was sharing some with my daughter, or else I would have added their Lava Flow which you have to sign a waiver and pay an additional price. It did not take long until we got our food. Our waitress set our orders down. You could see the steam coming out as she opened our bags for us. It smelled and looked great. While my bag looked good, two people in my party were missing their corn/sausage/potatoes in their preset bags. The waitress was informed and she immediately brought it out. Finally, It was time to dig into this buttery, garlicky, Cajun goodness. Absolutely not disappointed in the flavor at all. I want the House Magic Dust on everything now. Everything was steamed perfectly, the potatoes were cooked perfectly. I had plentiful of shrimp, mussels and crawfish... but the clams seem to have fell short. I only noticed this due to wanting to save clams and mussels last. During our meal, the place was starting to get busy so we came at a great time which was around 5:30pm. Our waitress was attentive throughout the whole meal. The price overall was fair. It was a great experience and I am looking forward to their new location on Southside.

Decided to come here since I wanted seafood and boy was this place a disappointment! Upon entering the establishment we were greeted and seated promptly. Then maybe after a few minutes of deciding what to get we placed our order. Upon ordering we notice our waiter didn't know too much about the menu when we started asking her questions and she didn't know any answers. We also tried to order there spicier sauce selection just to find out that they weren't offering them which I felt that she should of told us at the beginning of the ordering process. Anyways we decided to order by the shore with some add on and my friends decided to get house of love with add on. The bags arrived in a timely matter but they arrived LUKEWARM! I don't understand why the food was lukewarm when the restaurant itself wasn't even busy. Also they DO NOT CLEAN the shrimp ! How are you a seafood restaurant selling shrimp that are not clean! We couldn't even eat the shrimp. The only good part of the bag was the sauce. The sauce was really good. All and all this restaurant was a disappointment and we ended up leaving hungry! Do not waste your money or time! Also the server where on their phones. One lady was looking at her phone while busting the table and the hostess was playing with her phone the whole time until customers approached the stand. Really unprofessional!

Food was bland like it was reheated more than once. Seasoning was a bit strong compared to other places, a bit heavy on on celery seed. "Nope" level of spicy is still more than mild at most places. Half the shrimp were over cooked to mush. Crayfish were mushy. King crab had no flavor was mush. Snow crab was decent. Lobster had no flavor. But most of all the sausage tasted like it was boiled in water all day, no flavor left.

So it's been about 1yr since my last visit and I see why. I tried to give Crustacean's a second chance but this will be my last visit. The service was mediocre and my boil came out cold therefore I had to wait for them to reheat it after already waiting for an extensive amount of time. Also after dinning at "Sauce and Toss" I see that crustacean's quality of food is not great. The crab here was very small almost making it impossible to enjoy. I will say the variety of flavors are good but I would still pick Sauce and Toss (for those big juicy crab legs) over crustaceans any day. If your looking for a place to enjoy a great seafood boil go and visit Sauce and Toss!! SN: Sauce and Toss (3 large crab legs) had to take a to go bag Crustacean's (2small crab legs) was still hungry looking for more to eat

Stopped by to enjoy some seafood. Was seated right away. Bunnie the waitress came over and greeted us. Took our drink order and came back with the drinks and the menu. Bunnie explained the menu in detail since this was our first time visiting the establishment. If your up for food with No Frills then this is the place for you. I ordered the bucket with pound of shrimp and pound of mussels. The bucket came with a half potato, a small corn, and sausage (which I declined). The seasoning I requested was butter and garlic. There are several spice option to select. The food arrived in a plastic bag in a bucket. The waitress open the bag on the table lined with paper. I also order corn hush puppies 6 for $4.00. They were served hot with butter(extra charge). They were sweet. My diner partner ordered the fried catfish platter that came with a side. He ordered onion rings which was good sweet and hot. The catfish portions were a nice size and the dry rub seasoning was a delicious. I will most definitely return when I'm in the mood to eat my seafood boil bag with a cheap plastic spoon and paper on the tables. The service is outstanding and we were thanked by several waiters when leaving. The restaurants needs a little updating. The TV are a nice add but they also play music so you can't hear the TV.

The House Bag (clams, mussels, crawfish and shrimp) with Magic House Dust in all of its sloppy glory and goodness
    Elizabeth F.

What a surprise (and a very good one)! This place is nothing fancy, but with food like this, it does not need to be. DH and I love shellfish and this place has it is spades. They specialize in crab boils with your choice of seasonings. DH and I both chose the House Bag, which is 2 lbs of clams, mussels, crawfish and shrimp. We each chose the House Magic Dust. I added a little bit of heat and DH opted without. Each boil bag also comes with andouille sausage, corn, potatoes, and cornbread (which has got to be the best cornbread I think I have ever had). The boil buckets arrived and it was 2 lbs of sloppy goodness. It did not disappoint. We peeled, shucked and woofed down every last bite. The only downside is the crappy location (at least there is easy parking) which means you have to know where it is in order to find it. But judging from the Friday night crowd, it looks like lots of folks have found out about this place and are enjoying their own boiled bags of #CrustaceanLove.

Saw this place on the way to Gelati Celesti and gave it a try. BF is a fan of similar types of restaurants in northern VA and said this was ok in comparison and he'd go again. They are having a soft opening now, 20% off until late September, and employees asked for suggestions. We suggested more seasoning in the bag and more seasoning on the sweet potato fries (good texture but needs something extra). Place is very casual with brown paper to cover the mess you will inevitably make. Most will likely get a bag with one type of crustacean or a mix of them that is boiled with a type of seasoning, and a spice level. Also spice level is not comparable to say Thai spice, so go hotter. For non-crustacean lovers there is a small selection of food like wings (pretty good) and chicken strips. They are pretty unique in the area but also cater to a specific taste. Try it out.

Great food in a fun atmosphere. A few months ago, they moved to a larger space across the street in the same plaza. It's sooo much larger and they even added an outdoor dining area. The bags are good and there's numerous ways to customize them. However, their Bitty Bite dishes (gumbo, jambalaya, crawfish mac & cheese, and crawfish etouffee are definitely underated. I personally feel like the quality of the them are a little better and I enjoy them the most.

We got the dolsat bibimbap and I always say the stone bowl is absolutely worth the extra money. The best part is always the crispy rice. Tteokbokki Having a vegan option without seafood was a great find. Most of the time the sauces have shellfish in them and I don't have the patience to make it from scratch. The noodles were cooked perfectly and they give you two vegetable dumplings on top. The sauce was nice and spicy without being too overwhelming. Kimchi pancakes: wish they had a bit more kimchi in them than the batter, but still good. Japchae with tofu, nice and almost beefy tasting. The black pepper was a nice punch. They came to bring us things and check in on us. Please use reusable cups for dining in and not styrofoam cups though! They have reusable utensils which is nice.
