Came here to rent a massage table for a day. i called ahead, the woman on the phone was really sweet and helpful! I was told I had to bring a $250.00 deposit for the table (Yikes!! But understandably). After reading the reviews on here I was hesitant I might not get my money back, but went with my feeling that this place was alright after talking on the phone to the woman there. Came in to pick up the table, and bought some bulk oil. Both were priced really fairly and inexpensively. I was so shocked at how sweet the two women were there and at their good prices (i was expecting the worst after reading the reviews), that I asked if they were under new management or had a new owner. Nope. I'm not sure why this place has such bad reviews but after my really easy, pleasant experience there I felt I had to update their ratings. 5 STARS, totally deserved! I signed up JUST to write a review on how pathetic this business is. I am a massage therapy student and have talked to several therapists at my work about massage central. This place, unfortunately, is the only place in LA to get tables. They know this, and they overcharge on everything. The owner lied to my face when I told him that I had proof of him overcharging saying that the tables were made better for his store. I called the manufacturer, complete lie. Tables are marked as different brands and they downright LIE about everything. The employees have no clue, no answers for any questions, and just tell you to come back to speak to the owner. It makes me sick to think there is no other place to go. Please, if you can, buy online so these losers will stop robbing the new students!! Needed to rent a massage table for my mom that was recuperating from vitrectomy eye surgery and found this place online. The process from initially inquiring about prices over the phone until I returned the massage table back went smoothly. Would totally come back if I ever need anything similar. I have purchased many items over the years, but will no longer shop at Massage Central due to the rudeness I experienced while waiting for assistance. An offensive salesperson was totally disrespectful to me in front of another customer. I later discovered that the rude salesperson was actually the OWNER! I may overlook rudeness from an employee, but it is unforgivable from the owner. He has little regard for his customers and does not care if he loses my business. I purchased $600 in merchandise online, from another retailer, without any hassle. No one needs to be treated so rudely. This is based on the owner comment that was left on my review... 3 years after I wrote the original. I have also "flagged" his return comment and I hope Yelp removes it. I gave 1 star based on the inconsistent customer service, not by the owner, but based on your employee. I do not know if that person is still there, but yes, that person is inconsistent and moody. I have received great service and terribly rude service at different times from the same employee. That is why I can state it is inconsistent and that person is moody. Your comment that i purchased a jar of cream and tried to return a half used product and get another product for free is incorrect. You are getting me confused with someone else and how could you possibly recall what I purchased from 3 years prior. I purchased a massage oil product, brought it to your attention within a few days and brought back the gallon, as well as, the bottle I poured 8oz into that I had left with the product. I clearly did not use half the product as you claimed. I also did not demand another new product just because I had buyers remorse. BTW, the product was "rancid" as I had suggested. I know this because of your refusal to replace/exchange it at your store, I actually drove down to San Diego to the manufacturer and they checked the product and then replaced it for me. Even the manufacturer representative was confused as to why you didn't just replace it for me in YOUR store because they would have sent the replacement back to YOU directly for the exchange of a bad product without me having to contact them directly to honor it. This update of 1 star is based on your outrageous and inaccurate claims to my original review. Your store is still the only "local" area that carries a decent selection when you need to purchase immediately so obviously there are benefits but you cannot delude yourself with all the other reviews that are telling you that you need some TLC and customer service training for some/one of your employees. OK, i went back to use my voucher and my experience was much better. Sam (i believe he's the owner of the store) was MUCH nicer than that woman i dealt with on Saturday afternoon. He helped me pick out a table and didn't try to upgrade me to anything i didn't need. After i bought the table, he even took the time to teach me the proper way of carrying it so it wouldn't strain my back. This place is a joke. The majority of their items are outdated models, old product, and EVERTHING is priced about 30% higher than online. Funny thing is they assume you're clueless and literally try to convince you (both in person and on their website which doesn't take sales) that their prices are lower despite the fact that they are exponentially higher. They also add a shipping cost into EVERY item as if you'd purchased it online because "they have to pay shipping". HUH? I have to pay your shipping charges after spending my gas and time driving to your store? That makes sense. If outdated, unfresh, and overpriced product doesn't lure you in maybe their unfriendly pushy attitudes will. This place has a lot of products but the guy is nothing but a salesman and will try every tactic to get that extra dollar. The prices are inflated and even when I brought it to his attention in comparison to amazon he was so defensive and tried to spin it like I didn't pay attention to warranty. Which in fact I did but he didn't want to listen at all. He then accused me of coming in just to try the chair out just so I can buy it online. Even tho' this business is nearly the only massage supplier left with a storefront in the West LA area, they do not take their role seriously. The service is meager, gruff, and distracted. But the prices are reasonable, and there are several good items for self-care that i like, footsie rollers, massagers, vibrators, + they have oils & lotions in bulk. Limited varieties of other items. BEST FIND: Lotus Touch Always Fresh Laundry detergent that takes out oil residue, weird rancid odor, and stiffness COMPLETELY from massage linens, one wash makes a huge difference, some of mine are over 6 years old, and smell sweet again - 1 gallon $22+tax, does 30 loads. Great place! They definitely live up to the name of the world's largest display of massage tables and chairs. Their prices are pretty good comparatively to other places, it's quality products and they definitely have a well stocked supply of them. However, what won me over in referring this place to my friends was the service that was both knowledgable and friendly. My advice is to check out their inventory online and then come into the store to see for yourself. And if you need specific items, they can also special order so everything you need is right there, and it doesn't get easier and more affordable than that. read more

So what if they're rude or not rude, I come in to make a purchase, period. Yelp is causing businesses to close and were going to have to purchase everything on line. I am not a stranger or a scammer. My husband and I are CUSTOMERS who rented equipment after retina surgery from this business. We have a receiot/invoice from this business showing our paid rental. This business certainly has the right to not provide their Tax ID to customers who wish to complete their paperwork for insurance reimbursement after surgery. However, I feel it is my right to warm customers that if they wish to be reimbursed by their insurance company they should rent from another company or at a minimum request the Tax ID number in advance on their receipt at the time of rental. read more

I had (unfortunately) ordered a faulty mag lamp on Amazon. After describing the issue with Samuel, he offered the solution of replacing just the stem that holds the lamp into the base. He had one in his storage unit and sold it to me for $25 versus having to purchase a whole new lamp. Had an excellent experience today. Purchased an EarthLite Harmony DX table w/ carrier, jumbo half cushion, and some massage supplies. Everything as far as I am concerned is reasonably price and they have a pretty large selection given what type of tables you're looking for. Hyldine was very friendly and did not try to push anything I did not want on me. She "stuck to the script" of my price point and we found the perfect table for me. She was also very detailed in how to use items and simply provided a lovely experience overall. Hyldine was excellent! Many places of business should take notes... I think Samuel should be doing a bang up business, as the sole brick and mortar massage equipment and supply store in the LA area. It was surprising to usually find the store empty as often as I did. As a student, I used to frequent the showroom because of a nearby regular medical appointment; I make it a point not to shop there anymore. On the plus side: 1. this is an local small business; 2. they have a lot of equipment in a small space with an opportunity to check out many brands/styles/colors in person; 3. they also carry supplies like massage oils, essential oils, music, books, sheets, diffusers, towel warmers. Room for improvement: 1. service is definitely inconsistent; 2. staff seems to have an approach to the customer that is authoritarian, disciplinary or just down right rude. I did buy my Earthlite Spirit from them, and I love it! 15 days after I bought it, the zipper in the cover/case started to malfunction, but based on the poor customer service I had experienced over multiple visits while choosing my table, I knew that if I tried to return it I would be accused of somehow mistreating the zipper and breaking it intentionally. (You can see some of these accusations on this very page.) On one visit, buying creme, I was lectured about my credit card. On another visit, I saw a man who needed help with table repair get turned away with no options because only the owner could intake his table or handle that business and he was not around. An a different visit, I was all but ignored while the two sales ladies very brusquely ousted a homeless lady--this is the massage industry, I understand wanting to protect your store and that you need to protect your assets, but that can almost always be done in a way that cleaves to kindness. On other visits I saw customers attempting returns or recourse for broken items (often staff was just openly discussing said customer in front of me) accused of it being their problem/fault (you broke it). The last visit I made, I was expecting a phone call and chatting with a friend via IM. The sales person accused me of doing comparison shopping via the internet. No, because I like patronizing local businesses, and I'm willing to pay more to support my community while having the convenience of touching the product and taking it right home with me. However, if everyone who enters your store is constantly under attack from suspicion of theft, damage or somehow "out to get" your business, then maybe it is better we part ways. Sadly, I will pay the shipping, and send my funds to some nameless/faceless internet place. Samuel: you have a potential goldmine here, you should have money falling out of your pockets. The MBA in me is envious of your market position. However, I think you're missing the goldmine. This is a niche business and a successful strategy would include superior customer service. You will never be able to compete with internet warehouse pricing, selection or convenience. However, there's not way they should be able to compete with your relationship with your customers. Be attentive, helpful, listen, go the extra mile for your customers and you will be able to charge a premium--not only that, you will have easily twice as much business as you currently have. You might have to eat a few bad returns here and there, you also might have to discount a few floor model tables a couple times a year, but what you gain in customer loyalty will MORE than compensate you for those rare losses. Take a lesson from Nordstrom, that is where your goldmine is. I wish you and your staff well. read more

"All American Massage Store" on Newport Blvd in Costa Mesa carries the exact equipment I need and has everything. What's really cool is they have an oil bar where you can make your own custom massage oils and lotions, in any essential oil you want.The employees are friendly and helpful. I've been coming here for years to get all my massage supplies. Everyone who works here is extremely knowledgeable and always helpful. As far as people's opinion about Sam the owner, he may have a dry sense of humor (which I appreciate) but he is a very nice man. When I first became a therapist years ago, I remember Sam showing me how to put my table in my bag and how to carry it without exerting too much energy. When I read these nasty reviews about this store, I just feel like it's coming from a person who is nasty on the inside. True, some people have bad days, some people get rubbed the wrong way, but people in the healing profession should be more accepting, more patient and more loving. I have been a patron of this location for over 20 years by now, and Samuel is a great store owner. He has always shown integrity and knowledge. I appreciate that a lot. Recently I was pricing massage sheets, and noticed I could find them much cheaper on line (not the same brand) but similar "flannel sheets." Well, I thought I was saving a lot so I ordered four sets. When I received them, they practically felt like burlap! When a Massage Warehouse website (I'm not saying which one - you can figure it out) told me it wasn't their policy to pay for return shipping, I was appalled. What I would have to pay to return four sets of sheets would not be cheap, i suspected. I was disgusted with that policy, so frankly, they just lost my business. I ultimately bought more sheets from Massage Central once I realized they really do carry the best products at honestly reasonable prices. You get what you pay for, right? I had a great experience in there today, and Ann was lovely and delightful who gave me honest feedback clearly without trying to sell me any higher priced products just to increase sales. Dear Samuel....I have been a massage therapist for 12 years and now teach massage therapy. When my students ask me where to buy massage products, I tell them to buy online and avoid your store. I have been several times and have NEVER had a good experience. I find the employees rude and unhelpful and it's a generally unpleasant atmosphere. I recommend listening to the many people here who have complained about your store and its service. It's much too easy to shop online and you need to step up the professionalism. I would much rather support an independent business, but not one that dismisses me when I walk through the door. Do things differently if you want to remain in business. I have the ear of almost 200 new therapists in LA and I'm not the only instructor telling students to stay away. Not taking responsibility for your employees horrible attitudes is a one way ticket to closing. read more

The only reason I started shopping here was because a chunk of my tuition at the school a half block away was allocated to purchasing a table/supplies at Massage Central. And only at Massage Central. Sad day for me. I'll keep this short - they're the only storefront left in the area (or one of very very few) and they know it. The prices are inflated. I made a huge shopping list of what I wanted days before I actually made a purchase, then did a little comparison online. I was slightly infuriated at the differences between the pricing, but since I had to spend the money at the store - there was not much I could do but just suck it up. Beyond my one giant shopping trip, I've visited a few other times to pick up supplies here and there. Never once has my experience been pleasant. The service is horrific. I feel like I am a nuisance more than a valued customer. Don't even think about trying a lotion sample. They'll follow you around the store insisting you don't touch anything and wash your hands! I understand keeping your merchandise in tip top condition for sale, but please do not treat me like an ill-behaved three year old. I've listened to how multiple other customers have been spoken to and their concerns, complaints, requests, inquiries, etc... have all been handled... every single time it is abrasive, abrupt, and just plain awkward. I've also been lectured on the proper way of using and signing my credit card. Really, sir? In the 10 years of my life I've been using credit cards, you are the first person to have a problem. If you don't want my sale - that is okay with me. There are plenty of online stores that will gladly take my money. If you're a massage therapist, a healer, ANYONE in the bodywork business - please save yourself the hassle and take your money somewhere else. I needed a massage table for an event and had no idea what to expect. After much searching (online and calling everyone I know) I found this place. Thought I'd give it a chance and check out some products before I actually ordered anything online from another company, but it results that I purchased everything there! I got such a great deal on top of that!....and even got pointers on how to carry and take care of the massage table. The owner helped me out the entire time and still was able to help out the other customers that were standing in line. Purchased a used hot towel warmer and they tested it while I shopped around. They checked to make sure the light worked inside and told me it was fully functioning. I should have felt the inside to feel that there was no heat. Drove it all the way home (I live far away) plugged it in at home before taking it to work and sure enough the blue lights worked but no heat. Bothered by the fact that I would have to drive back to exchange it I called to notify them of the issue that night. A man named Samuel gets handed my phone call and starts telling me that I broke it. It was a $210- value in which should have been easily exchanged for another. This is on top of the fact that he was speaking to me like a child. The next morning my husband tells me that the situation is ridiculous and decided call Samuel for me. He threatened contacting the better business bureau. Of course he changed his mind and allowed the refund. I bought a better one online for cheaper and it was new...ALSO I called to order lotion to be delivered to my home as it is so far away and the girl told me my card did not work.. she never repeated back my card number so it was probably entered in incorrectly. Embarrassed, I call my bank, they say no transaction has even tried to go through, there's no hold or block on my account and have plenty of funds. I call back to further investigate what might have gone wrong. Its Samuel, he proceeded to tell me my card did not work and he can not run it again cause the business gets charged $5-/transaction(total bologna)... I never asked him to run it again anyway. I was calm while he was defensively talking in circles about my card declining-how I must not have money, how he gets charged, he doesn't want to run it again, he doesn't have any further information. All I wanted from my call back was to ask the woman who originally ran my "card number" what the machine told her after she attempted running my card and I again was spoken to like I was stupid.. Bummer because this is the only place within a 50 mile radius that i could buy massage products from. read more

I almost gave less stars a few months ago but have had a few semi-redeeming experiences since my first visit here, thankfully. This place is very convenient to my house and office so I do frequent it to pick up supplies several times a month. The first time I came I was interested in trying a new massage cream on my clients. I had opened a "tester" and held it up to my nose to see if it had a scent. A saleswoman shouted from halfway across the store and quickly stormed up behind me and asked "...ARE YOUR HANDS CLEAN!??!" I was was absolutely shocked but disguised it and politely replied, " Hello. Yes, I just washed my hands as I just completed a sesh and walked over on my lunch break." I mean most of the people that work there perform (or have performed) massage in some capacity and should know that massage therapists are constantly washing their hands! "I haven't actually touched the emollient, just smelling it." I added as I forced a smile. I thought about this afterwards in length but still couldn't get over how rude, unfriendly & confrontational this person was! I could have thought of 10 other different ways she could have confronted me, "Hi there. Just wanted to be sure your hands were clean before touching any emollients. We have a sink in back if you need it. Btw, do you have any questions? " (I was too appalled to buy anything from this place that day as you can imagine.) I used to work in customer service so these type of things are very, very important to me. Months later I returned completely out of desperation & convenience. I ran out of a cream and needed the same day. I just grabbed what I needed and checked out as quick as possible. I prefer to order online but I can avoid the shipping charges by shopping here. I do wish the staff was kinder though. I shop here a lot now but I make it short and sweet. I do not engage in much conversation with them just get what I need and immediately get out. The other day there was a new person working who completely took me off guard because she is very pleasant, even smiled at me. At last. I really hope the customer service continues to improve as I even send clients here to pick up sombra, biofreeze, and other things they may need in between massage sessions. I don't typically shop where the customer service is subpar but the fact remains, it is just so unbelievably convenient. But I have faith that the owners will take strides to improve the levels of customer service. But who knows, maybe they don't need to have good customer service because like me, other therapists come here purely because of how convenient it is and overlook the service. The sales peeps are knowledgeable after all just could be a quite bit kinder. Simply being nice to customers can go a very, very long way. read more

After much internet searching and no help, I remembered massage central. I went in and spoke with Sam Lazar. I went to Massage Central today, as I wanted to see some of my choices in person instead of just looking at pics online. Owner was BEYOND rude and I guess he doesn't seem to understand (or care) that you earn your customer's business with a smile and a pleasant demeanor. He became extremely angry because I was testing the weight of a table by lifting it (from the end) about 2 or 3 inches off the ground. He then told me I should only come back when I was ready to make a purchase. Well, I will be making a purchase, just NOT from Massage Central. Oh, and I'll be sure to tell other MTs to avoid. I am never coming here again. I had been here only once and although the lady was not too pleasant it wasn't enough to upset me, but today was the last time. First of all, I needed to buy a gallon and a few half gallons of Biotone lotion and anything else that possibly caught my eye. Now, I already found these same items online at Amazon with free shipping, but I was trying to do my part and support a local business. So as I was getting my massage cremes together, I was quite startled when I hear a man practically scream at me that "now I've touched all the bottles and he has to clean them, and I need to go and wash my hands." Excuse me? I told him all I did was use the tester that was out and then I had to touch the bottles to get what I wanted. After all, why put out testers and get mad when we use them? That didn't make any sense to me. He proceeds to tell me he's the owner and he's been watching me touch the bottles and that I, again, need to wash my hands. No way, I do not need to be berated and I put all the items (totally over $150.00) back onto the shelf. I told him I was going to buy those items but there are other places I can get it from. He tells me it's his pet peeve to see people touching the bottles ( clearly he is very annoyed) and I tell him, that's fine, but he could be nicer in his delivery. Awful experience.
