The rooms are divided by a plastic accordion wall partition, furniture and decor from the 90s, the top blanket was velour and made me question if they switch it out between clients. The lighting was not just dim but also a bit dingy - was I in a Kill Bill scene? My massage was like someone spread lotion on me with a little pressure. It was definitely not ideal and the experience was most definitely not worth what I paid. The three women at the front tried to upsell me to a membership as well - one of the women was selling hard but also presented herself condescendingly. *gestures around* I won't be back. I wish I read these reviews before I signed up for a membership. The first massage I had, the therapist made me feel uncomfortable. He lifted the blanket completely for me to turn over. I should have said something to the manager then, my mistake. He never introduced himself and the massage was mediocre. The second massage I got the therapist did not follow my request for a mild massage and basically gave me a deep tissue massage. My body hurt for the next week. He also did not introduce himself and I felt worse after the massage then before I came in. Since I'm stuck in a membership for the next few months I'm trying a different therapist. Let's see how this one works out! Once this membership is over I'll be going back to Hand and Stone. This location also needs a serious update. It does not look modern at all. If it would have allowed me to do 0 stars, I would of done exactly that. I have been trying to book an appointment at this location & the Ardmore location since Tuesday, May 4th. I called the Ardmore location around 12pm and spoke to Antoinette, who was lovely. I explained to her that I was trying to book an appointment for about 6 people. That I would understand if they weren't at the same time or close together because they were six INDIVIDUAL appointments. She gave me 6 separate times and after confirming, I was able to book mine for 3, and allowed the other 5 individuals to call and book theirs. In that process, Antoinette was able to then change the appointments for 3 INDIVIDUAL appointment at 12pm and then again 3 INDIVIDUAL appointments at 1pm, which were better accommodating and made more sense to both her, and I. I then received a phone call again from her about 20 minutes later, stating that her manager called her and told her that "we do not take parties that big." and to cancel out 6 separate appointments with no real reason as to why. Since she had to call 6 individual people separately, she left this email contact with one of the individuals, who has sent an email and has not received a response. Since neither Antoinette, nor her coworker could explain why the appointment was canceled and even confirmed that it wasn't due to COVID or any pandemic related rules, I proceeded to go online to schedule an appointment for the 22nd at 1pm. which at that point, should have been perfectly fine because that was the time available according to this location.. so I was EXTREMELY surprised and disappointed to see that my appointment was canceled and so were the 5 individual ones made that day. When I called the Ardmore location again, I spoke to Rene - who mentioned she was training and was new. She had NO IDEA why my appointment was canceled or who even canceled it. So again, I'm extremely frustrated because not only does this make absolutely no sense, but it is extremely unprofessional. The following day, I heard nothing until about 9:19pm which was a text message from one of the customer service reps for that location - just stating to email them (which I had already did on Tuesday and Wednesday) and that someone would get back to me. Thursday, I booked an appointment at the Wayne location for the same day, but different time. Which was then canceled again, and this time I called again, and was able to speak to Christine Winkelvoss, who is INCREDIBLY rude and unprofessional. She told me that I was wasting her personal time, and that I can't tell her how to run her business. I asked for her regional manager number and which she said she didn't know who that was. She was very condescending and told me that I was more than welcome to book at another establishment and even had me confused with another group that was trying to book. I moved to the area after having an amazing massage therapist back home. I tried out the Ardmore location despite the mediocre reviews. Unfortunately, the reviews are accurate. My massage therapist was alright, but did not listen to what I requested and did my entire body instead of only the targeted areas that I had requested. The massage itself was fine, but nothing special. I didn't leave feeling like I had gotten a great massage and had my muscles worked/relaxed. Let me just tell you this was the worst spa experience of my LIFE. Granted, this a cheap spa alternative for yuppies who like to be pampered without breaking the bank, however, do not ever go here. Save your pennies and go to an actual spa. They only employ people who are barely literate, barely 21, uninterested, and are poor at massaging. The handoff between management and the massage therapist is poor. Explaining what you seek is like explaining multiplication to a three year old. When I asked for a refund or a partial refund, the front desk lady Frida would not budge. She consisted to offer me to come back and pay 60 dollars as a "special" rate. Stay away from this place. They do not care and just want your money. Frida is also the owner and is pushy with trying to get you into the pyramid scheme. The actual massage therapist looked 18, and was not attentive to my needs. Frida did a terrible job of debriefing Jackie and Jackie kept sighing during the massage. Jackie did not fill out my wellness plan - oh excuse me, she did right in front of me. Classy. Frida also watched over my shoulder to see how much I would tip Jackie. I will never go here again. I hope this place shuts down because it's all a scam who hard sells what is supposed to be a relaxing service. I left more stressed than I came. Nawh, this isn't the best massage I've ever had - those were given by a blind man in Shanghai. But Massage Envy is your prototypical suburban massage parlor complete with private rooms, heated blankets, and elevator music with the occasional gong emanating from the tactfully hidden MP3 player. The rooms are comfortably cool and dimly lit. The staff is courteous, and the masseuse (Michelle) asked twice how the pressure was - since she listened the first time, no corrections had to be made. I know people who use other locations that enjoy it. I never should have signed up. First, they don't make it clear that you cannot cancel. In fact, it was never mentioned at all when I signed up. I've been a member of this location for over 5 years and they are WONDERFUL!! I see different therapists such as Lisabeth, Caitlyn, Park and Maya and they all are truly fabulous! I suffer from migraines and get massages every week. The front office staff knows my name when I enter the building and always ask how I am feeling. I have terrible hip issues and and neck problems because of my posture. The therapists always know how to deal with my specific issues and target areas. They are respectful and accommodating of my busy unusual schedule and always call the day before my appointment to remind me. These other reviews are obviously from other massage businesses because none of these reviews match what I've seen or experienced during my 5 years plus here. It is a clean, friendly, professional and therapeutic atmosphere, not a public house! read more

I gave a $25.00 Massage Envy gift card to my wife. The 60 minute massage seemed expensive at $90.00, but I wanted my wife to relax. It turns out that Massage Envy (ME) does not accept their own gift cards. They tried to give me a long explanation about how "Big Box" stores have been selling their ME gift cards fraudulently and that ME is as much of a victim as I am. I did a quick on-line search to see if this is even possible. It is not. What I did find is that there are 1,000's of complaints about Massage Envy. There are class action suits and websites outlining their unethical business practices. I was given an email address for the manager to review my ME gift card. The email address does not seem to be working. What they did manage to do is sell my wife one of their massage bundle packages. I want to warn you that many of the complaints that customers have against ME seem to be generated over this type of contract. If you are thinking about going to Massage Envy at Ardmore, first review the many posts at Yelp to see if this place is right for you. Next, do a quick on-line search about Massage Envy to see what kind of issues other customers have had in the past. I honestly don't think they set out to be rude but every single person there has the same indifference to customers its infuriating. I have been trying to cancel my monthly membership since March, it is now July. They want to charge me to pause my service or let me cancel with 8 sessions remaining to use within 60 days. Every time I have called to schedule an appointment they have been booked with no availability for DAYS! I finally found the number for Corporate thinking they could help....boy was I wrong. The good stuff: new, clean, rooms are quiet and dark, heated sheets are excellent, my massauge therapist, Deborah, is an EXCELLENT knot finder/releaser... if you have issues with knots...go see HER. sigh... the bad stuff. The 19 year old office staff who were talking to me like I have never had a massage before, I felt uncomfortable talking to them about my medical stuff. They are very young and you can feel their tension which makes you tense. When I told them I would think about it they used tactics that were just...gross. The one dude wouldnt give it UP. I almost had to get rude. I looked at him probably for the 6th time told him no, he finally had the grace to say, "im sorry". I even signed up for a massage a month later but they wanted to move in for the capitalistic kill. And there was some owner or manager walking around who looked like a slave driver total douche energy waving off of her and the staff seemed scared of her. shit. i was scared of her! Do not get a membership here. I went here once or twice and was persuaded to try the year-long membership at $59 per month. "You can cancel after 12 months without a problem," they said. Well, that has not been the case. It has been nearly impossible to cancel my membership, and even after doing so, they have continued to bill me monthly! I've been on and off the phone with this Ardmore location in January, February, and now the end of March, and I have to say that the staff are incredibly rude once they find out that I'm trying to cancel my membership, and very unhelpful. I never had a problem scheduling my appointments, of course, but as soon as I inquired how to cancel, they referred me to my terms and conditions, then charged me an extra month, then called me twice to try to convince me to sign up again, then charged me for an additional month after I called. I've been so disappointed by the customer service. I understand that they are trying to get more money out of me by making me re-up for another year, but this is just unprofessional. I will never go back here for any massage after the treatment I've received in trying to cancel my membership. In terms of actual massage quality, I have had a few really good masseuses and a few so-so ones. One star because my masseuse was the bomb but I cant give her an individual rating. Otherwise there would be no stars. They get one for hiring Miriam. She is attentive, personable, friendly & enjoyable. The front desk is a joke to say the least. They barely know why people would even want to get a massage. Customer service is trash. They rush you into & out of your appointment. They almost force you to leave a tip & when you do they basically look into your wallet to see how much you are leaving. Since I brought a membership, I tried to download the app (which they have & suggest you use) Big mistake! The app doesnt work & no one in the office knows how to access it. Well, we took advantage of the free 30 minutes after our last horrific visit. I have to say that our massages were 100% better than our first ones here. They were attentive and did exactly what we requested. They have to get their check-in down more smoothly, though. We were placed in their tranquility room to wait for our therapists and the front desk lady came back to get me three times for different questions related to our services. Then, we were taken into separate rooms when we requested a double room for couples massage. They ironed it all out in the end, but when you go there to relax, you just want things to go right the first time. We might be back or might try another location closer to our home. We cancelled our membership within one week of dealing with these total fools. They had to cancel both my massage and my wife's massage and gave us zero notice. I've been going to this location for several years, and while they've been through a few different managers and there have been changes to the staff, the current manager and staff are great. Laura, the manager, is amazing! She opens the store on time and makes sure that everything's running smoothly for my appointments, which are usually first thing in morning (9am). If my therapist is not available when I need to make an appointment, she makes great suggestions about other therapists that can offer a similar massage style, and she works to get me scheduled right away. Russell works the front desk, and he's super at keeping things moving, between phone calls, customer check-ins and check-outs--he's always on top of things, even in the back of the house! My massage therapist, Maya, always takes care to listen to and address any physical complaints or concerns during each session and adjusts her routine to accommodate. She's very receptive to feedback and always maintains a positive and professional attitude. Christine is the owner and I've met her a few times. She's always pleasant and professional. She knows me by name and always takes the time to thank me for being a regular customer--a nice touch! If things keep going like they are, I'd say this is a place well worth trying out if you're in the market for a good massage at a decent price. read more

I normally only write a review when I have something good to say, or something terrible. This one is both. First, the facial done by Merle is outstanding. So worth the other aggravation I experience coming here, which says a lot. Merle, I really wish you worked somewhere else. Here's the thing. I always book with my best friend. It's a treat for us to come together on a day off. We plan way in advance and really look forward to it. I get the facial, she gets the massage. However, twice in the past year ( and we only come 3-4 times a year), there was a problem. Last time they didn't have the reservation which was outrageous. This time, they said the masseuse was in a car accident. One time, ok, things happen. Two times - no, there's a problem. We drive up from Philly, and 5 minutes before the appointment, lo and behold, no massage. Now if we canceled 5 minutes before the appointment, we'd be charged. I'm normally a very easy going person but there is something about this place that pushes my buttons which is the exact opposite of what it should be. I have been to this spa about six times. My massages have generally been very good, but the customer service and difficulty that I have encountered in trying to schedule a massage is another story. They say that they open at 9:00, but good luck trying to reach anyone at that time. I recently tried to call around 9:10 to schedule a massage for later in the day. The phone rang off the hook. I tried several other times. When someone finally picked up, they said to call back after 10:00. Today when I called, I was put on hold for about five minutes and then asked if they could take my number and call me back. It was 11:00 a.m. I am sure that the place can't be swamped with people at 11:00 on a Wednesday. I said that I would just call back. Last week I made an appointment for 2:00 in the afternoon, only to receive a call at 1:20 telling me that my therapist was "running late" and they would have to cancel my appointment because they wanted to make sure that I got my "full hour" of the massage. You would think that there would be some effort to accommodate further or some offer of compensation for the inconvenience.....not the case. Lastly, the place has an apparent shortage of male masseurs. Albert and Daniel are very good, but trying to book an appointment with them or any other male masseur is nearly impossible. They obviously have more of a demand for male therapists than they think. From the other reviews that I have read, it seems clear that this spa suffers from extremely poor management. I went to this Massage Envy location for a special opening event and I was not disappointed. The staff was extremely friendly and attentive to my needs. One of the staff members walked me back to the Tranquility room, offered me some water, and gave me time to fill out my paperwork. Shortly after I finished she returned and went over everything with me, asking specific questions about particular areas of concern, what type of massage (whether light, firm or deep) I would like. Once everything had been addressed, she gave my paperwork to the massage therapist who came out and took me into the treatment room. My massage therapist was Nick and he was absolutely terrific! He spent the first few minutes talking to me about areas I wanted him to concentrate on and reviewing all the paperwork I filled out. From the minute I layed down on the table I was completely relaxed. At the beginning, while laying on my back, Nick and I chatted a bit about where we lived, jobs we've had, boyfriends/girlfriends etc. I personally like to have a little conversation with the massage therapist because it makes me feel more comfortable with them. I turned on to my back and all conversation stopped and I slipped into a relaxation coma. Nick payed special attention to my shoulders and neck like I had asked. He also payed a lot of attention to my hamstrings which being a nurse and on my feet for 12 hours/day needed plenty of attention. I was so relaxed when my massage was over, I didn't want to get up. After the masage was over, I got dressed and when I exited the room, Nick was waiting there for me with a glass of water. We talked over what he did during the massage and he made recommendations for next time. I will absolutely return to this location! read more

I had a terrible experience with this spa, not the massage mind you - no complaints there - but the administration is horrible! Similar to Kimee I have been trying to cancel my membership because I moved out of the country and no longer have access to any of the spas. I spoke with an agent on the phone who told me no other payments would be processed. I asked that a manager call me the following day to confirm, since she could not give me a definitive confirmation. The person never called! The next month when I was charged again I called and found that they had sent a cancellation form to my email which I missed. Ok, partially my fault for not seeing the email. But, I was promised a call. So the agent this time is now telling me when I cancel I have 30 days to use the remaining sessions, which are 5 by the way. I asked for an extension or waiver of that requirement since I am not in the U.S. and have no plan to be there in the near future. They said that was not possible. 'What then can I do to receive value for the money I already spent with you' I asked. She said I can gift 2 of them and I had to pay a transfer fee. So, they want me to pay even more with them for services I want to gift and the remainder I cannot use! I sent my cancellation for by email and asked for a confirmation of receipt and have yet to receive it -it has been over one week now since I sent that cancellation request. I would not recommend this establishment to anyone! They have poor customer service! That is me being nice! read more
