This Massage Envy location is excellent. When you first arrive, you are given a warm neck wrap for instant relaxation, which is a nice touch! The two West Hartford locations did not offer that additional service. I have had massages here by two different therapists and both were awesome. They had my 16 yr old sign a contract by telling her any massage would be $59.99 after her gift card had a zero balance, didn't say she would be charged each month regardless of getting one or not! She just thought whenever she wanted she could make an appt. for that rate. After seeing charges on my credit card, I contacted them, and told them she's a MINOR and can not LEGALLY sign a contract and they could not LEGALLY have asked her to, they didn't care! To be continued.... they could have simply apologized and cancelled the membership. So stupid and dishonest and illegal. UPDATE: The Mgr I spoke with a couple of days later couldn't have been nicer, Immed apologized and said they would cancel the contract and credit my account for charges. I still think what they did was wrong to begin with and the first employees attitude and refusal was inappropriate, BUT it is now corrected with ease and a smile. read more

Well, Massage Envy of Canton, you've left much to be desired. I feel like we are the couple that keeps trying to work things out, but I'm just tired of the drama. I took the plunge (a nearly $800 commitment) and enrolled as a member a few years ago, hoping for the best. My experience at first was decent, although it took awhile to find a massage therapist that really worked on my specific muscle pain. When I finally found one, she quit. Then, I was so grateful to link up with the best therapist I had there, by far. Her name was Claire, but she too, left. As I was coming to the end of my yearly membership I learned I was pregnant. Because of this, I wanted to hold off on any massage, since it isn't recommended in the first trimester. Massage Envy staff said it would be fine to put a hold on the membership because of this. A few months later I received notice from Massage Envy that I would need to use the hour I had left or I would lose it. I explained, again, that I was pregnant but they said I would need to "use it or lost it". I never ended up using it, because I was still in the first trimester. Several months later I received information about a class-action lawsuit settlement against Massage Envy for this type of business practice (i.e. not allowing rollover, and clients were losing sessions they had paid for). Naturally, I signed it and sent it back. While I was pregnant I received two gift cards to Massage Envy, which I ended up holding on to for over a year. I was hesitant to go back. Fast forward several more months, and I called to book my appointment and use my gift cards. I received a fantastic massage, so much so that my hope was renewed. Maybe Massage Envy had made some adjustments. Maybe, just maybe, they could win back my business. As I checked out, I knew the sales pitch would be coming. Of course, I get it, but it's a little annoying to deal with after a relaxing massage. Nevertheless, I was told that I would have all sorts of perks because I had previously been a member and by coming back I'd have several "freebies". And, I did. I apparently had credit on my account from the lawsuit, credit for being a "win back" and coupons for upgrades and enhancements. They made it really hard to say no. So, we "got back together" and I've been to about 4 or 5 sessions now, with the same therapist. I'll start by saying she is very sweet and I know she has top-notch massage therapy skills, because she's used them before on me. That said, the first session was phenomenal. Two of the sessions she talked to me the whole time (for 1.5 hour sessions). And, she was telling me about her personal life and problems she was having. Normally, I love conversation and I'm not one to cut someone off, but I would think that it would be protocol to not talk much past the first five minutes or so or about personal issues. This brings us to my massage last night. When I got there, the front desk staff asked me if I had gotten the voicemail and email that they sent (which I never actually got), because my therapist had "not shown up that day," but then she laughed it off and said that she "just showed up, though, so disregard the message". I then asked if I could pre-book my next appointment so I didn't have to do it after the massage. When I went to book with the same therapist she said she was "hesitant to do so" because this therapist "has been doing a disappearing act on them." This set the tone as awkward right off the bat. When I got to the massage room (correction: facial room, cluttered with equipment - definitely not a relaxing environment) it was freezing (and I noticed even through my coat). I mentioned it to the therapist and she said that "the room usually is really warm," so I thought it would improve throughout the session. I also described in detail where on my neck I was experiencing a lot of pain, since she had been great about working out knots and tension in specific places before. Well, the massage was one that was screaming "I am just going to get through this". It was pleasant, but the room remained freezing, my neck was barely worked on, and I left feeling extremely disappointed. When I was leaving, I made a point to tell the front desk staff that the room was freezing. The response was "Oh, well sorry about that. The thermostat is acting up. It's cold up here, too." Massage Envy of Canton, it's time you get your act together. Your turnover is high, your employees (therapists) have shared numerous times (during massage) how the work environment is poor, the service I have received is inconsistent and mediocre, and I'm convinced now that this is not the place for me. If there is a way to sever my membership once and for all, I would be grateful. Otherwise, I will hold my breath and not expect much in the next several months. read more

I have been to Michelle at Massage Envy for facials regularly for the last year. She does a terrific job. She has improved my skin and given me helpful recommendations for self care. She has recommended a couple of products, but has never been pushy about it. The hour it takes for the facial is very relaxing. She not only works on my face, but while letting a mask work on my skin, she gives me a lovely hand and neck massage. In addition to being very knowledgeable about her profession, Michelle is just a very nice person, with whom I enjoy conversation when I feel like talking. But she lets me relax without talking when I just want to enjoy being pampered. read more

The quality of the massages has been very poor and if you are lucky enough to get a therapist that knows what they are doing - chances are they won't be working there long. I absolutely LOVE this place! I've been a member for a while. Ann Marie has been extremely helpful not just in her skill but by also by providing me valuable information to help avoid hip pain. I deal with occasional migratory arthritic pain and it's so helpful to have a massage every month. The entire team is professional and friendly. This for the ridiculous cluster#%k that is their organization! In April I was gifted a 2hr massage by a Massage Envy employee in CO. When I booked my appointment they said I could split it into 2 hours or 1 2hr massage. I opted to split it. 1st massage was reviewed below. Last Sunday I came in 2 use my second hour and had the WORST massage of my life. The woman massaged my bones not my muscles. Anyway "Lillian" at the front desk apologized and comped the session and rebooked me for today. When they called to confirm yesterday I explained my previous Sunday's ordeal and confirmed that my 1hr gift was there for me to use. The girl stated "it's right here in the system". Excellent. Today I had a massage with Lindsey (excellent, thank you Lindsey). Went to tip and was told the session would be $99.99. Excuse me? I explained that I was using my 1hr gift and they said "there is nothing in the system". I told her A. When I booked my first appointment Massage Envy told ME I what the gift was and how to use it and B. That last night the girl confirmed. I called the giftor who luckily had the receipt in front of her which states I was gifted two and who the cashier was. They called the Colorado location and everyone was like ..umm uh I don't see it". At this point how is this MY freakin problem? We have the giftor, the receipt and the cashier's name...(Also 5 days ago I had responded to an email from the owner explaining what had happened last Sunday and to confirm the gift and btw, she STILL hasn't responded). This is clearly an issue btwn the two massage envys. They call the owner who says to have the giftor call CO to push them the hour credit. So she calls and she speaks to (Bianca/Blanca?) Colorado who says "it's right here in the system" WTF!! Seriously.. You kept me for 30 minutes for something that shouldn't be my problem, for something that is right in front of you, you just don't know how to work your system? Are u kidding me? Spa Envy in Canton is great! At first, I was hesitant about going to a chain spa, but my mom and sister-in-law were already members of the South Windsor location and they love it. I've been a member for almost a year and I've really enjoyed going to the Canton location. As much as I don't want to share my massage therapist's name (I want to make sure I get my requested monthly time slot with her :)), Kate is just fantastic! She's pleasant to chat with and she's great with her hands. Best deep tissue massage ever! Although this location is on the smaller scale, they do a great job and typically have good availability. She made me feel super comfortable and left me so relaxed I just wanted to go curl up in my bed!!! After this amazing experience I signed up to be a member. Fabulous 1 hour massage....first time in a while. Worked out all my pinched nerves....and I left totally relaxed. Keep in mind that their 1 hour massage is actually only 50 min. I was waiting for my car to be repaired so I just walked over to check out the place. The front desk gals were very friendly and pleasant. I was so impressed that I left with a membership and an appointment for the next day. Fast forward to the next day. Once again the front desk was great and made sure I was able to specify any special requirements for the massage. I informed them about the arthritis and the shoulder pains and the therapist was informed. Everything was great, the temperature of the room and table, the soft music, and most important the therapist and massage. Suzanne was great and very concerned about how the massage was progressing (pressure too hard?). We did have quiet times, but Suzanne was very friendly and willing to chat with me. Chatting can be difficult if you are a quiet person. It was an overall great experience for me. I like the convenience of scheduling, getting upgrades and facials, the drawings for upgrades. I think this could be a perfect match for me. I only gave it a 4 because I wasn't wild about the décor. After having a massage on the white sandy beaches of Bahama...you know what I mean. read more
