Went here for a massage the other night. I got a last minute appointment and they're open late which is convenient for those of us who have work lives. The massage itself was good. Nothing too special but not traumatic. There wasn't much consultation after the massage was over. I sometimes like to know which areas had the most tension so I can target those areas on my own at home. The only big issue I had was when I first entered the spa. There were like 5 employees standing around and chatting at the desk. This makes it hard to relax when they are chatting about their personal lives. Also, it's intimidating for a customer to turn in their "confidential" paperwork containing medical history to a fairly large group of people who appear to be more chummy than professional. I would have preferred one or two people at the front desk -- it would be less noisy and intimidating for a new customer like myself. During my massage, (my room was near the front, maybe next to a break room?) I could hear people chatting and laughing which at times served as a distraction from my hour of relaxation. Overall: massage was good and effective -- I felt much better afterwards. I probably won't return, though, because I didn't feel very relaxed in the spa atmosphere itself. read more

This place is extremely shady when it comes to their business practices so I would avoid this place at all costs unless you want to get ripped off and any chance of relaxation going out the window as you notice the continued secret "up-charges" you will experience and never be notified of. Not only that, but the entire process of making an appointment was even great (last minute, I called an hour before) and the receptionist couldn't have been kinder. Of all the Massage Envys I have been to, the staff at this one have the biggest chip on their shoulder. I was in about 2 days ago for a massage and upon checking in I must have misspoke as the male associate as he immediately gave me attitude - from the moment he seemed to HAVE to walk me to my seat up until I was out of the service. I get it, you're gay. The rest of the world is NOT beneath you. Otherwise, the massage therapists are great, and their facials are amazing. STAY AWAY!!!! The girls at the front started making this a rotten experience for me as soon as I walked through the door. Before I was called back, one bragged boisterously to the other that she had the "best *bleeping sales results over 3 months" and talked about how they weren't in trouble yet that day for being too loud (uh, they should have been). Afterward they gave me a hard sales pitch, which even if the massage was awesome I still wouldn't have went for it due to the rudeness of these girls before the experience. Overall unfriendly and bad customer service. So NOT relaxing. The massage itself was mediocre at best, but even the male masseuse was trying to sell me on membership during my massage and after! I received a 6 month membership as a gift. I only used 2 massages and the other 4 are garbage because I did not used them in the 6 month period. Basically, they charged for 6 months worth of services, performed 2 months worth and pocketed 4 months worth of money. They also told me that if I pay $59.00 a month, I can get them all back if I become a member again. I did not get a warning about any of this, as it was a gift. I did not get e-mail from massage envy telling me that I am due for a massage or letting me know that my massages are ready to expire. I have a very busy schedule and I sometimes do not have time to get a massage. FYI: We tried to cancel before the 6 months were up and they would not let us cancel. The massage package is a joke! I went here because it was convenient to where I live. The service was average, and my first massage was okay, not good, but not terrible. I did ask to focus on trigger points in my back, and out of an hour massage, less than 5 minutes were spent on this. The hour massage also lasted only 50 minutes due to a late start with no recognition. This venue might have scored 2-3 stars for being mediocre, except that the person at the desk blatantly lied to me to get me locked into a 6 month program, charging me $60 a month. My boyfriend and I somehow got a 3 month membership and I tried to cancel but they said I needed 30 days, so I gave them my notice that I was cancelliing, ( i paid for myself and my boyfirend was an add on) well this month they called and said they charged my card again, I told them I cancelled and they said they were under new management and the other manager didn't explain it well enough to me and I my boyfriend had to cancel too, even though we were on a membership together, so anyway they charged me again this month!! so now I paid like $330 dollars for massages I didnt' get. read more

These massage groups seem like they are a good idea and will save money ... But they don't. There are lots of hidden rules and lot of extra fees. You really end up paying close to $100 for each massage. They slap on a fee for everything like sharing a massage credit with a friend. And they will send you a card in the mail letting you know they have increased their monthly price out of the blue. Couple that with bad customer service, you are way better off just paying for each massage in nicer venue with better therapist who actually know how to heat up cold lotion before applying it with their icy hands. Came here with my husband, massages were great! But, I booked a couples massage for us for his Valentine's Day present... and we were in two different rooms (kinda defeats the purpose). When I asked the receptionist after the massage, she was basically like "oops". It was obviously put in the system wrong. After a wonderful experience last time, I decided to join the monthly membership - it's a great deal with monthly massages for only $59 and all sorts of other perks and this month they waive the enrollment fee! I went in yesterday for my janueary massage and once again was impressed with the spa, expertise and knowledge of the staff. My massage relieved all the tension I have in my neck and shoulders from carrying around a toddler. I've tried to make appointments twice here and both were cancelled. The first time I was told they had plumbing issues. Okay that is fair I guess. The second time, the day after the Chicago Marathon, when I went in for my appointment, I found that the girl who had scheduled the appointment, scheduled it for the wrong day. I'm giving 2 stars instead of 1 because overall, the staff was relatively nice (although, quite pushy). My massage was ok-- not great, not terrible, just ok. The massage was a birthday gift from the boyfriend, so I was just looking to get a massage and be done with it. I had absolutely ZERO interest in signing up for a 6 month contract, and when I explained this (very nicely) I was asked "well, why not?" and I really felt like I had to give an incredibly justified explanation. Give me a break! I understand they are just doing their jobs, but a good sales person should recognize when they need to just let it go. To top things off, I was paying with a gift card that included a generous tip and for some reason this seemed to be really confusing and after about 10 minutes of waiting for them to figure it out, I still ended up paying $10 bucks for an all-expenses-paid gift. I happened to have an appointment with Liz and she is the BEST masseuse I have ever had for a sports massage. She really knows her stuff and made me feel much better. I've only been to this location twice now, both times I've had excellent massage. The second in particular from Saro was one of the best massages I've ever had. Saro is especially attentive to your problem areas and has an amazing, caring and nurturing personality. I have never felt so comfortable with a masseuse. I intend to request her for any future massages at this location. The customer service varies, some receptionists are really attentive and helpful, others take personal calls on the massage envy line and push purchasing packages instead of helping remedy a mistake. read more

Booked a 90min session (extra time was perfect) to address debilitating tension headaches I've been suffering for months due to poor computer/phone posture. She did more good in 1 targeted massage, than the 12 physical therapy visits I completed earlier in the year for the same issue. She was so effective, I set a weekly appointment on the spot. I had gotten a gift card to this place for Christmas, and felt like it was a good time to redeem it. I have been having lower back pain for a while, and knew that my sitting position in the office wasn't helping my case any. I was able to book an appointment at the time that I wanted, which was great. I love that they validate parking for up to 90 minutes. My massage was with Jessica, and she was pretty fabulous. She gave a little extra focus on my lower back and made sure to ask how the pressure of the massage is, and she was able to identify my knots. I believe these are the most important things in giving a massage. I have high expectations since I have been spoiled enough to have had quite a few. I think what might have prevented me from giving it the extra star is that I did ask for more pressure, but it wasn't given consistently enough for me throughout. I suppose I could have spoken up during those times, but I just wanted to relax. Maybe she was taking it easy on me, because she already knew I was tense, and she did suggest I come back. I do think that the deal for membership is awesome, but since there are so many coupon websites that offer such amazing deals it's hard for me to pass those up when comparing costs, I'm sure the upside is being able to have the same masseuse know your body well enough as to identify what needs to be worked out. read more

Happy that it's an easy location..usually go to the one in Schaumburg and since I live in the city...its nice to have one thats convenient..streeterville location just is too crowded/crazy. Place was easy to find..literally right across the street from Trader Joe's...street parking was easy, otherwise theres a garage right there that Massage envy apparently validates for (free for 90 minutes). The place itself was really clean (granted its day 1)..and seemed a LOT larger than the ones in the burbs which is nice... Apparently this location also will be doing facials?! My therapist was Eddie who was really really good...he was respectful and just did a great job, asking from time to time how things were going/feeling which was nice. The one thing I didn't like was that unlike the locations in the burbs, this location won't split your prepaid credits...so if you want a 1 hour or 2 hour no biggie but a 90 minute means you use 1 credit and pay for an "upgrade"..which kind of sucks since I had 2-3 prepaid credits to use already...hopefully they change that. It was Monday 4p and I decided that my sore body from cheerleading needed a massage that same night. I had recently become a Massage Envy member at a different location, but they were unable to accommodate me for a last minute evening appointment. I tried the other two locations nearby and lo, behold, the Massage Envy Lincoln Park South location had a 1hr Swedish at 9pm available. I was beyond excited. I came 15 min early to fill out paperwork since it was my first time at this particular location. The front desk staff were really pleasant and friendly. The decor was more conducive to relaxing and being at peace, unlike other locations that feel very strip mall. The waiting room was nice with a ocean video and sounds playing. There was a binder available with bios on all of the massage therapists. Regina was really great and listened to what I was saying and incorporated it into the massage. Her medium pressure was perfect . I also opted for the aromatherapy "Aches & Pains" for an additional $10. Altogether, the 1hr massage cost $59, thanks to the membership rate. FYI, there is a short consultation at the beginning and at the end so the massage is not quite 60 min. I can't wait for my Memorial Day massage which I scheduled at the end. 1.5hrs, baby! Also, there was a yelp check-in offer for a free aromatherapy upgrade on my next 1 hr massage. read more

I tried out quite a few Massage Envy's in Chicago before settling with this location as my home Massage Envy. I love the staff at this location, and have not yet had a bad massage here. Greg is my favorite masseuse, but the others I have had when Greg is not available are just as talented and caring towards the customer. I personally recommend going with the membership, as it significantly reduces the cost of massage and allows you to pamper yourself on a month-to-month basis (we all deserve it!). read more

I can't really compare this to other spas since this was my first massage BUT it was worth the $49 IMO. Had a gift card for $75 so that covered an 1-hr Swedish massage + tip and a candle. If this will be your first massage, this is what you can expect: First you fill out some forms re: if this is your first massage, any problem areas you'd like them to focus on, any areas you're not comfortable being touched, etc. Next you're seated in a waiting area/lounge with comfy couches, relaxing music, and calm images playing on a big-screen. Your masseuse comes out to get you, brings you to the room and if it's your first time explains what the hour will consist of. She leaves the room to let you undress and wrap the sheet around you. Then voila! An hour of relaxation. If it's your first massage, it may take awhile before it feels "relaxing" (the first 15-20 minutes I was VERY tense, and was on the verge of laughter b/c I was so ticklish). But after awhile you get used to it. I highly recommend at LEAST an hour, as it takes time to get in the "groove." As for my masseuse in particular, LaQuis, she was great. Very calm voice, which made relaxing way easier. She also helped identify my really tight areas (i.e., lower back). I like that they fill out a sheet about what was accomplished, and what tips they have for you post-massage. All in all, a great first massage, but I suspect that there are more luxurious spas out there, hence the 3 stars. read more

I started a membership about six months ago after receiving a gift certificate for a facial. After my first appointment I was signed up for a membership with the intent of going every four weeks for a facial. My experience has a lot of ups and down.... I began to really like the first skin esthetician I had but then she abruptly left after four visits leaving me feeling very disappointed because I was starting to see improvement in my skin. She talked about how the Murad products would work on me and convinced me to buy two products which I love. While trying to book an appointment the front desk told me she left the spa and that my next appointment would be with the lead skin esthetician. I was immediately blown away by how much I grew to like my new esthetician Karen. She was so nice and really knowledgeable about the Murad products (the only skin products they use at the spa) and nutrition in order to maintain healthy, clear skin. She also talked about how which Murad products would best fit my regimen but also talked about other options which were less pricey - she was never pushy about buying products. After four months I'd happy to say that my skin is looking better than ever. Here comes the sad part.... I walked in one day expecting Karen but was told the day of my appointment that she had left the spa the previous day. I left my appointment feeling aggravated and annoyed because 1) no one notified me beforehand and 2) I hadn't been a member for a year yet and I've experienced two skin estheticians leaving abruptly. Bottom line: I'm upset that they are unable to keep their skin estheticians and I'll probably never get a facial there again. If I could cancel my membership early without a fee then I would. Since Karen left I've tried a massage and was not impressed. And the thing is I don't really enjoy massages on a monthly basis so now I feel like I'm wasting my money. I must say though that the staff at the front desk is very friendly and they remember you and call you by your first name. They always greet you with a smile and offer you water upon your arrival/checkin. I've also had issues with charges on my credit card but the manager and Dir. of Operations have both called me to ensure that the problem was resolved. I really wish I could like this place more than I do right now and really wish I could feel like I'm satisfied with what I'm paying for. read more
