I unfortunately needed to reschedule my appointment due to an unexpected situation. I called to reschedule, but was told I was going to be charged 50% for the change. The representative on the phone became super snotty to me. She lacked any willingness to work with me. I explained they would lose my future business, but she didn't seem to care. What a disappointment. This is probably one of the worst customer service experiences I've had in a long time. I'd encourage you to Google reviews for Massage Envy and this location. I've never been one to spoil myself and in my mind I've always pictured getting a massage as more of a luxury, not exactly a necessity. However, after an extremely stressful week I decided it was time to give it a go. I had another long and stressful week ahead of me and I needed to relax, even if it was only for sixty minutes. My sister had a package at Massage Envy and she was able to share or "gift" one of her massages to me. I must say, she's a pretty cool sis to simply give a massage up. She's a Massage Envy member so she paid roughly thirty dollars less than a non-member per massage and I was able to book an appointment over the phone with absolutely no hassle. I gave my information to the lady over the phone, she was able to pull up my "gifted massage" and viola, I was confirmed! I arrived roughly 10 minutes early to my appointment and I was able to grab a parking spot in the garage out front. They have some signage throughout the parking garage and around the building, which was really helpful having never been here before. I walked in and was instantly greeted by one of the ladies behind the front counter. She guided me over to a chair and she walked me through the check-in process. She went over several different questions varying from areas of pain and stress, what my goal of getting the massage was, a brief medical history, any areas I didn't want touched, etc. Once that was over I signed and confirmed every thing on a little touch screen ipad and I was asked to take a seat in the waiting area. Before sitting down, I took a quick stop to the restroom. It was very clean and they did have separate restrooms for men and women. Once I got back to the waiting room my massage therapist, Patrick, called my name. When I called in to schedule my appointment I made sure to request a deep pressure massage and they assured me that Patrick would do the trick. He was very sweet, explained everything to me in detail and went over my in take form. Then he stepped out of the room to allow me to get undressed and ready to zen out. The room was dimly lit and there was calming music playing. The massage table was warm and the blankets were soft as can be. Before he even came back in to get started, I could feel myself drifting off a little bit. Throughout the massage Patrick checked in on me every now and then, just to make sure I was enjoying myself. I definitely was and I had zero complaints throughout the entire experience. An hour flew by and I honestly felt a little like a zombie afterwards. It took me a minute to stand and gather my barring's. After Patrick left the room I got dressed and met him outside. He doubled checked that everything went well and gave me his card, which explained the days and hours that he works. This was great because I could definitely see myself doing this more often and he gave me exactly what I needed. From there I went back out to the main lobby so I could tip Patrick on my credit card and ask about their pricing. They gave me a brief rundown of their pricing and membership perks and sent me home with a little flier. I can definitely say that I now understand why people get massages on a more regular basis. Massage Envy was incredibly clean, the staff was perfect, and I felt great afterwards. I know that Massage Envy is a large chain and not necessarily a local business but it honestly felt very intimate. Since the start of the pandemic we have been asked to cancel if we have any respiratory symptoms without any penalty. This morning out of respect I called the clinic and let them know I have a stuffy nose and sore throat. The seemingly untrained desk worker, Caitlyn Lang, told me she will be charging me for 1/2 of my appt. Then I told her this hadnt been the policy since covid and asked when it changed. She rudely repeated that she was charging me for 1/2 the appt and told me I better not come to my appt. At this point I am heated and have choice words with her. Maybe I am giving them a 5 because of the massage therapist that I go to, but I guess a good massage therapist makes a place. I have been to several massage envy locations and always have found great massage therapists who after awhile end of leaving Massage Envy so I am not sure what the work environment is like there. I will say I have been to other spas in other cities and have spent way more money for just an ok massage. I will do the monthly membership for the perks and the price is reasonable for an hour massage. Ed is the best deep tissue massage therapist I have ever been to. He does techniques that I have never seen another therapist do before. Might be slightly painful during but I do feel so much better afterwards. I can't begin to describe how much THIS business and THIS location ripped me off. For the last 6? 7? years I've been buying a full years worth of services (paid upfront in full) in January. Sometimes I'd even do the same for my girlfriend. I'd buy services for my Mom, my sister, buddies at work, as gifts, etc etc etc. I knew this was a franchised location and wanted to make sure my money was going to support individuals. A few weeks ago (after I'd received my second vaccination) I called to book an appointment. I did not go many times in 2020 and knew I had a considerable amount of massages left. I was told that I did not have anything in my account and that they had all "expired". The person on the phone was very nice and told me she'd have her boss call me back. He never did. I had to attempt to call back a few times before I was able to get him on the phone. He told me that 7...SEVEN...visits had expired and that there was nothing he could do about it because I did not "pause" them or put them on "hold" or whatever. I pay in full. There isn't anything to pause????? How would I know of such a policy when I'm not paying month to month? After talking in circles, he told me that he'd talk to the franchisee and one of them would call me back. Needless to say I didn't hear anything...not even an attempt. That was weeks ago. I understand that policies are in place for a reason, but we just went through a pandemic; obviously there should be a gray area. The status of my massages is the last thing on my mind. I am a first responder and never once quit working. I just feel like I'M the customer a business would want to take care of. I give you my money MONTHS before I receive the service. I had a 60 minute massage here today with Ben and it was phenomenal! Customer service at the front desk when you enter was wonderful, they were helpful and friendly. The atmosphere was very clean and inviting. Sometimes you wonder about spas that are chains but this was very well put together. The therapist, Ben, was very professional and listened to my requests for the focus areas. He incorporated active release therapy in his skill and it was perfect for the tension I had in my muscles. My pre-natal massage was canceled four times by Massage Envy across two different locations. To be fair, this location only canceled it once. When it finally happened, it was just so-so. I remember thinking/hoping, "At any minute, it's going to get REALLY good" -- and that just never happened. The massage was very "blah." I returned a few weeks later for a facial. While I think the quality of the facial was pretty good, the person who provided it kept questioning why I wasn't on a regular massage routine "for my wellness" as a pregnant woman. It seemed like she wouldn't settle for an answer unless I said "I tried a pre-natal massage here and it sucked." I didn't say that, but was very tempted to. She also spread lotion all through my hair (?? why ?? and also, gross -- I just had it done, too -- disgusting!) and tried to sell me on face products that totaled $95. I think I'll stick to the small, private practice I go to in Westerville for facials -- and will stick with my chiropractor for massages. read more

My husband and I went to Massage Envy for our first couple's massage. We were massage newbies, and the staff here was very helpful and friendly. The woman at the desk was great about explaining our options to us and helping us with the paperwork. The facility itself is very nice and relaxing. The waiting area has comfy chairs, low lighting and a water feature, which helped to transition into a good relaxed mindset for the massage. The couple's room was spacious. Our massage therapists were Ashley and Emily, and they did a great job. They were great at talking with us about what we wanted from the massage before it began and then getting us all set up at the end with water and walking us out. This location is inside of the Grandview Yard, so parking is via the parking garage. We went on a Sunday morning, so parking was an absolute breeze, but it can be busier at other times. read more

My husband and I decided to become members of Massage Envy in Grandview Yard. We were initially really excited to have a membership where we can schedule massages monthly without a lot of hassle. Massage Envy had called me the day of our first appointment to let me know that my massage therapist could not make the appointment. They were able to reschedule me at a different time. For convenience, I wanted both of our massages to be at the same time, but I understand that things happen so I didn't think much of it. Overall, I thought the reception staff were warm and welcoming. I wasn't impressed by their facilities beyond the reception area, but for a budget massage you can't expect too much. The massage however, was most likely one of our worst experiences we have had. Both massage therapists continued to talk through the entire massage which took away from any relaxation to be had. Despite this experience, we had signed up for a membership where we could not cancel for a year (just keep in mind you have a contract and will be penalized if you cancel). So we continued scheduling massages. The second and third time, my husband's massage therapist had to cancel. At this point, I was pretty disappointed in their services. Maybe canceling once or twice, I can understand, but three times? We were fortunate to be able to get out of the contract and they refunded our monthly fee because of our experience. The ladies at the front desk were very professional and friendly. This was my first appointment so I got the introductory massage rate for the 60 minute massage. There was a polite, short sales pitch for the subscription service, and I paid for one of the upgraded massage oils that was not worth the $10. The actual massage was much shorter than the 60 minutes I paid for. I probably started 5 minutes past my appointment and finished at least 4 minutes before the hour was over. I've only ever been inside one other massage envy location in gahanna and the grandview location is much nicer in my opinion. Russell was my massage therapist, he was very caring. Checked in numerous times to confirm that I was enjoying my massage and it was at my preferred pressure. I felt very pampered. Don't waste your time on a chain like Massage Envy. I was barely greeted by a young staff that all proceeded to talk about their love lives while I filled out the questionnaire. All of the rooms are on top of each other so you can hear the noise bleed from every room around you. There's nothing relaxing or personal about the rooms or experience. The lotion they use feels very slippery. They never even asked if you prefer female/male. My massage therapist was nice but honestly was not very good at all. $92 as an introductory rate is an absolute joke for the massage I received. I left feeling very frustrated and annoyed and not relaxed at all. Defeats the whole purpose of getting an actual massage. Never again. You're better off supporting small businesses and or independent massage therapists. read more

I've enjoyed getting massages here with my Membership plan but had to stop because I drained my HSA (whoops). Side note, they do accept HSA which is awesome. It's a no frills place....nothing fancy. I've really liked the two therapists I've seen here, Emily and Nikki, and the front desk is always friendly and efficient. The reason for the four stars is that the walls are paper thin. When you're laying there, relaxed as hell, it's a bit jarring to hear the people in the hallways or next door having conversations. I visited this particular location twice during my stay in Columbus; I'm a Massage Envy client who lives in Washington DC. I typically receive massage at least once every two weeks, sometimes once a week if I need it. I teach yoga part time and am hyper-mobile. My personal preference is for deep massage and a typically go at least 90 minutes sometimes 120. I had the opportunity to book 2 massages during my time in Columbus. I'd recommend both therapists; however they clearly have different specialities. Accessibility through my membership was no problem. They found me in the system with no effort. I did fill out paperwork when I arrived since they don't have my information regarding medical history electronically. No big deal although it would be nice to have this tied with your name and membership to avoid having to do it. Desk staff was friendly and efficient. My first visit was with Martha. She was described as light to medium and I concur that description is accurate. She did a great job and I liked her technique. She has a warm demeanor and I felt incredibly relaxed throughout and afterwards. My second visit was with Russell. He is described as deep and firm. The description is accurate; he understood immediately how to work on the areas that needed attention. It's rare I meet a massage therapist who understands hyper-mobility. I left feeling more relaxed than I have in a long time. I will be back in two months and have already pre-booked with Russell! I only wish I could take him back with me to D.C. read more

What can I say, from start to finish I really feel played when it comes to Massage Envy. My girlfriend had just completed her first big business trip of her young career and I decided to surprise her with a nice professional massage when she got back to Columbus. I began shopping around and found good reviews for this parlor so decided to give them a call. Also attractive about Massage Envy, at first glance, was the advertised price of $39.99 for first time guests (60 minute massage). There were no asterisks by this price and no fine print. So when I called, that was the price I was expecting to pay. During my phone conversation I inquired about the suggested price. I was informed this was for "new members only." That's fine but if that's how you are going to be write it out in fine print and don't be shady about it. So now the price is $49.99. Strike one. I continue to inquire about the parlor and the associate I speak with tells me that since it is my girlfriend's first time they will add an additional 15 minutes to the massage for no extra fee. I'm thinking "fantastic" and give her my credit card number. Fast forward a few days and my girlfriend arrives at the spa. Immediately she is sat down to do some paperwork, which according to her asked her on three separate occasions if she wanted to join as a member. Also I guess this time to do the paperwork cuts into your actual massage time. Oh and here's the best part: when my girlfriend inquired about the additional 15 minutes they refused to follow through on their word. Strike 2. So let's recap so far. What I thought was a $39.99 massage turned into a $49.99 massage without any forewarning due to intentionally leaving out the little detail about that price being exclusive to new members, the complimentary 15 minutes I was promised would be added was not given, and what little time my girlfriend did spend at the parlor was currently being spent filling out forms asking her over and over again whether or not she wants to join this place. Anyone seeing a trend here? To their credit the massage, I'm told, was very relaxing. However after about 45 minutes the massage ended and the remaining time was spent filling out more paperwork, asking my girlfriend, again, if she wanted to join. She was even asked by a sales consultant, twice before leaving, when she wanted her next appointment to be. Let me spell it out in writing for you people, no we won't be joining your spa. Ever. We won't be coming back. Ever. You lied at every turn to maximize your profit while minimizing the actual experience for the customer and then had the balls to hard sell her into joining over and over and over again. EDIT 2/20/15 - Apologies for not editing sooner. The management from massage envy contacted me shortly after my review to apologize for the experience. I was offered a full refund, but I was not offered a new massage. I believe because it's a bit scary to massage pregnant ladies. ************************************************************* I called on a Wednesday and was able to get a Saturday appointment for a Pre-natal massage, which was great that they had such easy scheduling. When arriving, the front desk guy was very nice and informative. The atmosphere was very clean and calming. But my actual message stunk. The therapist didn't hit anything I asked for. I know it was a prenatal massage and maybe they can't do some things like a regular message but no one informed me about restrictions, so I don't think that was the problem. During my scheduling call I mentioned I really needed my trigger points worked on. When I met the front desk guy I mentioned this as well and noted it on my paperwork. When I met with therapist inside the room for a quick consult, I said I had a sciatic issue in my lower back this pregnancy that I was hoping to get worked on, as well as my trigger points being a main issue. I then mentioned possibly calves for charlie horses I was rarely having, and maybe just a little feet work, but trigger points in my upper back were the big one. In the end it basically felt like being rubbed with oil for 40 minutes. As directed by the front desk guy I kept communication opened and several times mentioned that more pressure would be fine, but it never happened. Near what I thought was the middle of the session she FINALLY started working on my back after spending a bunch of time on my arms and legs. But instead of using pressure and working on my pain points she just kept oiling and rolling her hand down the length of my spine. This felt really awkward and not very good and was actually giving me mild contractions, but I thought maybe she is prepping before she really digs in there. Finally I was going to ask her to stop and please PLEASE work on my trigger points now.... Just as she comes around to tell me our time was up. I'm pregnant and emotional but I cried when i got to my car because it was such a waste of time and money. I was in contractions the rest of the day for the weird spine thing she did and I have had non-stop charlie horses in my feet and calves since I left (which I wasn't having before). I'm giving Massage Envy 5 stars, based only on my therapist Russell. If I were basing the review on all the therapists I've seen, it would drop to 4 stars because some are not as experienced. The reception staff is very nice and patient, plus they call and remind you of appointments the day before, which I appreciate. Parking hasn't been an issue for me, although I often walk becuse it's in my 'hood. Russell is very thorough, intuitive, and knowledgable. A few things Russell has done for me recently: - Cleared up my sinus headache that I had for 3 weeks - Managed my hip pain from an intense yoga class - Consistently removes tension from my neck/upper back I am a member at Massage Envy, and the membership includes a 60 minute massage every month. It might seem a bit extravagant, but I feel so much better after that hour that it's completely worth it. I justify it because I rarely spend extra cash on my hair these days! I think this is a systemic problem with Massage Envys and not necessarily this particular location, but I just had a (typically) horrible phone experience with this location, so I'm going to post about it here, even though I've never had a massage at this location. First of all, I've been to a few locations. I have/had a membership through the Bethel location. It was a gift. I've had overall good experiences with the actual massage portion at all locations I've tried, my biggest complaint being the occasional overly-chatty therapist. However, I almost ALWAYS have horrible phone/appointment making experiences. Just now I called the Grandview location to check on the status of my membership (I know it's not at this location, but they are all connected supposedly) and to possibly book a Couple's Massage (as this location has a couples room, where not all other ME's do). First of all, they answer the phone with "Will you be booking a massage or a facial today?" That's really off-putting! What if you have some other questions? Spelling my name for the person to check on the status of my membership was way more complicated than it needed to be, and I don't have a complicated name. There was definitely a language barrier there, which I'm willing to deal with, but does make me question why they have this person answering the phones. Then she put me on hold to check on my status. When she came back, she said my membership had expired, which was a huge bummer because my mother made sure to pre-pay for a fixed number of massages rather than buy a monthly membership. I have not redeemed all of these massages. The woman on the phone was not helpful. I get that it is Bethel's problem, but she launched right into "renewing" my membership at this Grandview location. I expressed my disappointment and she had nothing but pathetic and sheepish canned responses. No initiative to help at all. It was a waste of time to listen to her babble about how she couldn't help me, so I just hung up. Every time I call any Massage Envy, especially when it has to do with making an appointment at a location outside of my membership's "home" -- it's been nothing but punting and hassle. The sales tactics feel slimy. It's all about selling memberships and never about problem-solving. After having had the membership, I prefer to just pay-as-I-go at a regular spa. While there is nothing necessarily wrong with the LMTs I have worked with here, the corporate culture and customer service leaves much to be desired. I have been a Massage Envy membership customer for over two years. I have to say, the membership experience is not worth it and is administered poorly. The membership is really not that much of a savings, and there are a couple of issues with the membership itself, including: a. The membership pretty much cannot be cancelled if you have outstanding credits for massages on your account. Once the membership is cancelled, you have 30 days to use any and all credits accumulated on your account. There was a class action lawsuit in California which prevents Massage Envy from this practice in that state, but the lawsuit does not apply in Ohio and it is my opinion that this franchise and Massage Envy in general is just asking for more litigation on this topic. b. The membership is plagued with fees that make the consumer feel nickle and dimed. For example, if you have accumulated massages on your account and you'd like to gift one of those to a significant other or family member, it costs the member $10. Even though this is practically free marketing and a potentially new customer for Massage Envy... all they have to do is some additional paperwork and they could potentially have a new customer. But, let's charge the member for that instead. There is more I could say about the general customer service there but what it boils down to is that neither Management or the Owners seem to care about the consumer. If you get this as a gift certificate or something like that you will probably have an OK time depending on your therapist. Avoid the membership like the plague, even though they will aggressively pitch it to you during your visit. read more

The massage was fine, don't get me wrong. But it's way too expensive when there are much less expensive options out there. Subscribe to Groupon and Living Social and you can get massages for 30 bucks. This one was 49 for the first time, and I think 69 or more after. Or you can join the club and get them for 59 per massage but you have to commit to 12 months. They say they will waive the 49 fee...(!?!?!?) if you do it as your massage but why have a fee at all to pretty much guarantee your business for 12 months? I recommend 35 dollar massage of Columbus. Not as much ambiance but perfectly fine. read more
