I have been a ME member since 2014. There have been months where front staff was very friendly and competent, and my massage therapists were excellent. And there have been many more months that the opposite is true. Today is a day in which I now understand how a perfectly reasonable, even headed person could transform into a "Karen" with the nonsense this Herndon-Reston location pulled. Yesterday afternoon, after a yard sale, I was definitely beginning to feel not only my age but a bit of physical overexertion. I called my "home location" (Herndon/Reston in the Fox Mill Shopping Center) to make the first appointment they had to offer. After calling twice because I was put on hold for 11 minutes the first attempt, I crossed my fingers and asked if perhaps someone canceled an evening slot at the last minute, and of course no such luck. So I asked if there was anything the following day, Sunday (today). Eureka! How is 5pm with Charles? Perfect! (Don't know who Charles is or if he's any good, but honestly didn't even care.) I scheduled my entire day around this appointment. Left a Father's Day family event early to get there. And man, was I looking forward to some relief because I was now at stiffness, soreness pain level 8. I arrived promptly at 5pm, and the two girls at the desk were confused by my arrival. I gave my name, appointment time and therapist name. They asked for the phone number on my account. Click click click on the computer. First girl can't even find me in the computer with either of my phone numbers, after repeating each number twice. (Funny you have no problem finding my credit card info each month with your billing cycle.) Second girl finds my account and says "yes, your appointment is scheduled for Sunday 6/26 with Charles." "Nooo, I made this appointment literally yesterday the moment I felt sore, and I told them I was looking for soonest available with anyone, and we 100% booked for today because he found one single opening in the schedule for today." "Sorry, the person who took your appointment must've booked it incorrectly." "Okay, cool, who else is available to provide the service I scheduled then; I'm not picky." Short answer: no one, you're SOL. I couldn't decide if I should get angry or bust into tears from pain and utter frustration. I can't even say this is the first time it's happened at this location. I mean, can their front desk staff read a calendar correctly? If a client is suffering from acute stiffness and soreness and asks for the first available appointment with literally anyone on their payroll, would you think they really want to wait 10 days in discomfort? Can we not apply some common sense here? There are ME locations all over this region; if I couldn't get into my home location, I would have called every other location in a 25-mile radius yesterday to find an appointment. I definitely would not have waited 10 days to seek relief. If this was the one and only negative experience or incident, I would not put them on blast like this. People make mistakes, businesses sometimes hire folks that aren't great fits for the job. But in the 8 years I've been a member, I can advise that ME is perfectly fine when you want to schedule a monthly "treat" to yourself and you're willing to book weeks in advance to get an appointment that works with your schedule or with a specific practitioner who listens to your needs and offers an excellent massage. Do not rely on ME if you're looking for something within a 5- or 7-day window, and definitely not when life happens and something happens to wrench your body out of whack and you need any kind of relief in the near term. They literally care next to nothing about your physical state or comfort level. They're selling monthly memberships and up selling products/services to bleed your account dry and don't even care if you're able to ever get in to the store to use sessions you've paid for. I should know; I have like 12 sessions banked at $75/month that I will have to forfeit if I cancel purely out of anger right now. Unreal. So please do thank the dimwit who booked a next-day appointment for the wrong Sunday a week in advance. I'm sure he'll still have a job tomorrow (if he's even given notice that a problem occurred). And I await the call from a manager promised to me tomorrow, or if they'll blame the Juneteenth holiday. Let's see if he/she can even find me in their system this time. read more

Overall a good experience, at least I got a massage this go around. When I called to get an appointment the front desk staff was very warm and friendly and conveyed that attitude over the phone. I was also able to get a later evening appointment for my husband and I during the week, granted the appointments weren't at the same time but still. Upon entering, the store is a bit smaller than other locations I've been to, I need to fill out some paperwork as it was my first time at this particular location. I did that and went back to the relaxation room, it was small but was nice enough, again when coming to Massage Envy's if you're expecting a day spa experience with robes and slippers, you'll be disappointed so just keep this in mind. Updated: My massage was excellent, the therapist applied nice firm pressure and I'm still a tad sore today but its a good sore. I made note of his name (since I can never remember) and will try and use my remaining massages with him. Upon checkout, I was asked if I'd like to set up another appointment and they asked the length of time of massage and gave me options. I was luckily able to score a later evening appointment again so that was a plus in my book. With the other challenges I've had at other locations I'm willing to go a bit out of my way if I'm able to get in and get a massage. Also my husband had an appointment with the same therapist right after me and he even said what a great massage it was! read more

I'm pushing it to give one star. I had a relative visiting from out of town. On June 29, I booked two 90 minute massages for myself and my guest for August 6 (this is over a month ahead of time). We arrived 10 minutes prior to our appointments to be told they had no record of the 2nd appointment. On further investigation, they found the transferred points from my account to cover my guest but only had 1 therapist available. So, I had my guest take the appointment but I refused to have her pay for the extra half hour $33). I had my guest go on with her massage and I received a call from Latifa, the "one in charge"who wound decide if I had to pay the extra $33. She proceeded to explain their policy of texting confirmations and didn't "I check my text messages". Of course I would not have received a confirmation for my guest but apparently the responsibility is on the customer to make sure they do the only job they have - TO SCHEDULE the appointment!!! I did it over a month in advance. I reminded her that I had been a customer for over 10 years and that I had supported them and not suspended my payments during CoVid to which she told me "you are not the only one". I'll Remind you that this person is speaking to someone (me) who is livid about having planned a relaxing 4 day weekend with her sister that she has not seen in over 2 years. I'm already pissed (I did drop the "f" bomb once during the conversation and I apologize for my lack of control). In the end she told me she would clearly not make me happy and I am free to "find another establishment" but it still owe the $33. This person should never be in charge of anything related to customer service. Mike Fitzgerald (apparent owner of this franchise) - what are you thinking??? You can't have a non-customer service oriented person in a customer service role - aren't you a little concerned about the ratings of this place? For $33 you are willing to terminate a long term customer?? I hope you find it easy to get new subscriptions (in my business it is extremely difficult to attract new clients - it's much easier to retain existing). None of this has anything to do with the quality of the therapists - I have found them to be quite good and I can't figure out how they keep any good ones at this kind of poorly run business. P.s. I am told that I can't see how many points I have in my account - Corporate took that capability away???!!!! read more

I had a really good experience here! It has been hit or miss for me at ME and I am definitely a fan of the Herndon location and have booked a follow up appointment. I enjoy my facials and this was wonderful. Location - super easy to get to from Herndon, Fairfax, Reston, and Vienna. Interior - nice. Its no red door but you are barely sitting in the relaxation room so who cares! I appreciate the cost saving way more than a slightly more dolled up waiting room! Service - Sue was fabulous. She's obviously very experienced and has done this for years. I would definitely recommend this location and this team. Thank you! read more

I'm not giving up on Massage Envy but am 100% giving up on this location. I just moved from San Diego where we had a great neighborhood location and I feel like I didn't appreciate them after experiencing this Herndon place. I called and made an appt for a prenatal massage. When I arrive, they give me a medical form to fill out. Makes enough sense as I hadn't been there before. I write on there that I'm 6 months pregnant. The desk staff is rather annoying and it's hard to get them to stop gossiping long enough to pay much attention. Sonia comes to take me back for my massage. She starts talking about using hot stones and starting on my stomach and I realize she has no idea I'm there for a prenatal. So I mention it and her jaw drops. She is totally freaked out that she almost gave a regular massage to a pregnant woman - I think this is a real insurance issue for them. I tell her that I made a prenatal appt on the phone, that I filled out a form when I came in indicating that I'm preggo and *still* the front desk can't pay enough attention to tell the masseuse it's a prenatal. The massage after that was ok. I think Sonia was a little shaken and just not mentally prepared to give a prenatal at that point. Afterwards, I'm thinking that I'll give them a second chance. The front desk never apologizes for the mix up. I have to ask to make another appt. I ask to make one for both my husband and I for 1.5 hrs two weeks following. Well, that was supposed to be tomorrow. Yesterday, I got a voicemail from a guy over there saying they wanted to move my appt up a half hour. He even made it sound like I had asked for this. They call again today and say they need to move the massage up a half hour and cut it down to an hour. I tell them that's an issue because my husband and I were going to come at the same time. Then she says, we'll just cut his short too and move it up, "we can only accommodate so many prenatals." I say forget it, I'd rather cancel and (not said aloud) go to a Massage Envy that doesn't suck. read more

Don't waste your time. Appointments are sparse, and they cannot seem to (channel my inner Seinfeld) KEEP the reservations. They can TAKE them, but not keep them. Really not worth the price, and its a canned massage, nothing too special about it. Better going to an individual therapist. Front desk staff is preoccupied, and immature. Unfortunately I have to say that this company isn't for me :( Things were a bit too much of a 'mix-up' for my taste and my massage did not make up for it. I had booked an appointment for my husband and I (unfortunately they don't have rooms for couple's massages, so I had to book separate massages. Just a side note). Then their staff called the day of my appointment and said that one of the massage therapists was going to be out and that they had to cancel one of the massages. A few hours later they called again and said that they actually did have another massage therapist - so they would have a lady therapist and a man. My husband said that he would feel more comfortable to have a female therapist, so I asked them kindly to assign him to the lady and me to the man. When we arrived we ' had to fill out some forms about medical information which I thought was a good idea, since I have a few health conditions and have had a serious injury on my neck a few years ago. Then they called us up to the desk and told my husband that his massage therapist was ready and to our surprise they had assigned him to the male therapist. My husband kindly told them that he had asked to be with the female, but was told "it's too late" (or something like that). The therapist stood right there, so my husband did not want to argue any further and went with the guy. In my opinion this is not acceptable - if a paying a customer asks for something specific, then the staff needs to go out of their way to make it happen. It would have been an easy fix since both therapists were already standing there. A massage is a personal experience and is supposed to make a person comfortable... the emphasis here is really on 'feeling comfortable' and my husband was not very comfortable in that situation. That was a downer for sure. Luckily my husband's massage was great and the therapist did a good job, which kind of made up for everything. As stated above, I wasn't a big fan of my massage. Many parts of my massage were actually painful and made my body feel achy afterwards. I had signed up for a deep tissue massage at first, since I am very "strong built" and not too sensitive. I later changed my mind and told my therapist before we started to only do a medium pressure massage. Yet it was, at some point, really too much pressure for my bones (for example on my back and my upper thighs). I could not really relax and enjoy the experience and was mostly afraid that it was going to hurt again. After the massage I became nauseous and also felt pretty achy for a few days. The Check-Out was a hassle for sure. I think I must 'blame' the company for that. It was at least not what you need when you are already feeling unwell. I tried to pay with a gift certificate and handed it to the Receptionist. He swiped it and said there was nothing on it and simply handed it back to me. I felt really stupid and wasn't sure what to do. The guy that checked me out didn't know either and when I started to become upset (since I had never used my $60 gift card), one of the girls by the reception desk said she could help me out and called the location where I had gotten the card from. There they found out that someone in Oklahoma had the same name as me and that that person used up my credit when she used her own gift card (NO idea how that is even possible?). Eventually they were able to give me the credit for it and I paid... but after all, it took me about 20 minutes to check out (Phew!) One very odd thing to top it off - I am not sure if they are really paying their massage therapists well enough (???) The company recommends (see note by the reception desk) for you to give the therapists a $20 - $25 tip on top of the massage cost which makes me believe that they let the customers pay their salary. Maybe it's just me, because I've only had massages in Europe before... there people give a small tip because the therapists get paid really well. So what am I actually paying $60 for? For the facility itself? It was something that I did not expect in a facility like that. I think from now on I would rather find an independent licensed massage therapist that I like and order them to my house (and know that they actually DO get paid enough). Anyways. As stated in my first sentence - Massage Envy is definitely not my thing and my experience was the opposite of great. I wish I could say something different. read more

Totally disappointed with my Massage Envy experience. I rarely write about my experiences on sites like these, but I felt inclined to share it with others to make sure they don't go through what I went through today. Let's start with the incompetence of the front desk staff: I called when they opened that morning to ask for a 90 min. massage. I specifically asked for 90 min. and even asked if my masseuse could focus on my hand injury for the last 30 minutes. It was confirmed. She told me from 2pm to 330 and even told me to arrive 15 min. prior. I get there at exactly 1:45pm and the receptionist takes my info and says she has me down for a 60 min. massage. She says she can't do anything about it because the person they assigned me, has someone after me. Disappointed that my relaxing Sunday is not going to be as I expected, I still agree to a 60 min. massage. I waited in the main lobby until 2pm..which means I haven't even begun my massage on time. Not happy. At 2:02pm...she takes me and the other client back to the "quiet room" and at 2:04 my masseuse came out to get me. I get in my room and we talk about my injury where he decides to diagnose me...despite the fact that I've already shared my professional diagnosis with him. He does 3.5 minutes of a hand workout that was pretty good but clearly too short. He leaves the room for me to get undressed and start the official massage- which is at 2:11pm at this time. The massage itself was weak. The man had to have been about 6 feet tall with a strong solid build. It felt like I was being massaged by a athletic teenage girl. It was my first male masseuse and I was expecting way more in pressure than I actually got. I specifically asked for a deep tissue massaged and I felt like it was just a guy rubbing lotion on my body. SMH Anyway... I ended the massage facing up where I could see the clock and we ended at 2:54pm!!! I did not get a full hour massaged and I wanted every minute back!!! I left unhappy and as he gave me water, I wanted to just leave without paying or saying anything...but as I got to the front desk, the same receptionist who screwed up my appointment had the nerve to ask me if I wanted to sign up for my next. I told her I didn't even enjoy this experience so why would I come back. She did nothing to make me happy or feel like I would want to come back. I walked out feelign more tense than I was walking in. Never again! read more

I just started going to this location as my primary spot, and had a very pleasant facial from Mella. She was very nice, and also did a great job, I left feeling much better! She even give me some good tips on treatment ideas and other things for the future, which I've already started to schedule. read more

I've received great and not good massages here. It all depends on the therapist. However, I canceled my massage envy membership because of the front desk staff. They are completely incompetent. On at least half a dozen occasions they messed up either my appointment or the appointment of someone I was with. It took over six months to get my credit for referring a friend and no one could ever tell me what my balance was. All of the relaxation of the massage was undone by dealing with the support staff. Go elsewhere. Trust me. FYI - this same massage envy location appears twice on Yelp. Not sure why. I posted my review in both places. read more

I don't normally get many massages but my mom gave me one of her membership months so I decided to go, why not! I called and the front desk was extremely helpful in finding a date and time that fit best with my schedule and a therapist that would fit my needs. I am a runner so I was looking for someone to help relieve muscle tension. I was set up with Sanae who was the best woman therapist at deep tissue massages. They sat with me when I came in to discuss areas that I wanted to focus on, allergies I may have, as well as if I've ever had a massage and what to expect. Since I rarely go I was grateful that the ran through what to expect again. I had to wait a little which was find they had a nice waiting room away from their entrance so you weren't hit with the cold air every time someone came in. Sanae was AMAZING, and that doesn't even begin to describe my experience. I thought I had a lot of tension in my legs from running but she was able to find areas in my shoulders and upper back that I didn't even realize were so bad. She was able to relieve so much tension it was euphoric. I've never been so relaxed in my life. Afterwards she took time to discuss with me the areas she found the most tension and ways to help me aid in those areas. You could definitely tell from the overall experience how educated she was in her field and how she cared about how you treated your self post massage whether returning or not. It was a great experience and I will definitely be recommending her to everyone I know that goes there. read more

The receptionist has one job, be friendly when people enter. Apparently that is too much for her. The massage was okay, but my therapist spoke at full volume. Perhaps it's an east coast thing but on the west coast when a therapist wants to speak with you they do it in a whisper. Also, when you say you're giving me 2 minutes to change, don't go away from 10. Then, I tried to have the receptionist add the tip by percentage. She isn't allowed to do that. They suggest you tip on a higher amount. This is ridiculous. It's NOT a $90 massage. I've had $90 dollar massages and the therapists are MUCH better. Watercourse Way in Palo Alto is my favorite fancy massage place. So after my massage I had to calculate gratuity because they want you to pay their therapists instead of them paying them I assume. Don't expect an hour, I may got 50 minutes. read more

This is my second time to the Herndon Massage Envy. I was pleasantly surprised that they treated me to a second massage at the lovely introductory $49 special rate which is half of what it would normally cost there. I booked my massage extremely last minute but was still able to get an appointment nearly immediately the same day--what a treat! The atmosphere inside is wonderfully relaxing with the wall fountain and zen decor (which inspired me to even get my own!) I had a cranial sacral massage (essentially head and neck) mixed with some traditional massage with Joanie. I felt wonderful afterwards and very relaxed. The 45 minutes went by so quickly! Its totally worth giving Massage Envy a try and I recommend Joanie. If you do pay a visit based on my review, please let me know- they have a nice referral bonus too! read more

I've been a member here for a couple of years now. I joined shortly after they opened. I must say that things have improved tremendously in the past six months or so. The front desk staff are very friendly and I seem to be able to get an appointment when I want. Like any personal service the actual service is only as good as the person delivering it. Its true that I have had some "bad" therapists, but I would say 90% are good to great. They key is to try a few and pick the one that fits well with what you are looking for. Then tip them well so they stay. I'm holding back one star because its not always perfect and I would love to be able to schedule an appointment online. You can fill out an appointment "request" form online, however they still need to call you to let you know if they requested time is available and then have you select a therapist. read more

I've been a Massage Envy client for years, so this review is just for the location (rather than the program). This location is five minutes from work, and they are my go-to location when I'm in dire need of a Massage (usually due to a stiff neck from sleeping poorly or a headache). The people who answer the phone are consistently polite and helpful, and they often are able to fit me in the schedule either that day or the next. Today was a prime example. I woke up with a wicked headache and neck/back tension, so I called to see if they could fit me in. The woman who answered the phone found a 30 minute block in the schedule with Marey. When I arrived, they escorted me to the quiet inner waiting room, which was great for my headache. Marey came to get me at my appointment time, took a few minutes to understand what was wrong, then shared her plan for my massage. She did an excellent job trying to address my pain concerns in a short time. I continue to go to this location because of the solid customer service and massage experiences. Thank you! read more

Visited last week. Had a better than expected massage from an experienced female masseuse. She was very thorough and competent, seemed to know what she was doing. She was physically stronger than I expected. She located and addressed my tension areas and I left very satisfied. I will book with her again. However, I did notice that the room appeared somewhat dusty, as if the walls had not been cleaned in a while. This can be an issue for me since I have dust mite allergies. On my way out I sneezed several times which I attributed to the accumulated dust. This is why I give Massage Envy, Herndon only a 3 star review. A quality massage but a sub par environment due to cleaning issues. read more

I don't understand why so many people downgrade the management, I never had a problem with it because I read the contracts, and sign them once I fully understand what I am obliging to. I've been here twice and I was so very close to purchasing a membership for a monthly massage, but then I brought my wife with me. We arrived together and since I've been before I walked her through the forms and confirm our massages before going into the relaxation room pre-massage. They did the usual line of questioning and tried to soft sell a membership package and told us how insurance could pay etc. I declined at the time and we went into the back. I was called for my massage first and everything went pretty solid, no complaints at all. When I finished my wife was waiting for me, which was odd since I went in first and she was not very happy. I asked her how her massage was and when we discussed her experience she told me that she waited for over 10 minutes after I went in, before her therapist retrieved her from the waiting room telling her that, "they never told her she had a client" She said her massage felt rushed and she was kind of uncomfortable as her therapist had large boobs and they kept touching my wife during the massage. When she told the front desk people just just said, "sorry" and tried to sell us a membership. We didn't mention the "boobs" as it's kind of an uncomfortable thing to bring up when there are people around, but I figured I"d tell my fellow yelpers. If you want me to be a repeat customer, "sorry" does not cut it. At least offer to make it right and offer her a complimentary massage or both of us, so we can actually have an enjoyable evening that we planned. I have not returned. read more

CAUTION! Don't go near this place and their sleazy 'membership' agreement. I 'joined' in 2013 at $69 / month. A member is automatically charged this so-called 'discounted' amount every month as a 'reward' (?) for being a member - whether you get a massage or not. It is actually the same as a walk-in rate. Yes, it was naive to sign such an agreement in the first place. After a few months we planned to leave the country for awhile, so I began trying to cancel my membership. I first called in June of 2014. Instead of canceling they offered to freeze the acct until Jan.1 2015. I called mid-December again to cancel and got some spiel from the front-desk about using a couple of more massages and not being able cancel in the middle of the month. On Dec. 22 I finally spoke with a manager who said that it was fine, the cancellation was taken care of. Hardly. In February I received a credit card bill containing a charge for a massage on Jan 30. Upon calling for the fourth time I was informed by a new manager that he would not cancel the charge and that I had to sign a consent form in order to cancel the membership, or I would continue to be charged monthly. On top of that, even if I signed the form now, I would still have to pay for the massage in January which I never scheduled and never received. The matter remains open. I haven't yet found a satisfactory way out of it. The irony is that this new manager informed me that he was transferred to this location because the previous manager had a reputation for poor customer service. I don't believe their customer service issue has been adequately addressed as yet. Nor do I believe they have any intention to address it. read more

As many others mentioned, the introductory rate of $49 bucks drew my mother and I in. I made two appointments one for me, and one for my mom. Never having been to a Massage Envy, we picked this one because it's close to my parents home. I wish I had read the reviews on here before choosing that location. It was a rip off. First of all, the people at the front desk, booking and confirming appointments, have no idea what is going on. Every answer to any question I had was just, read the form, or just specify that on the form, or here read this pamphlet. Well, we did, and still did not get what we paid for. Secondly, the massage itself was not good. Neither my mom or I received deep tissue massages, even though we told the people at the front desk, and asked/told our therapists we wanted deep tissue massages. Even in the massage room, I told the therapist to apply more pressure, and her response was "are you sure?" Of course I was, that's what I thought I was paying for. I also asked her to spend a little extra time on my neck and lower back, that didn't happen either. The whole thing while relaxing, (because I finally just decided to take a nap instead of fight with the therapist and or get up and walk out), just wasn't worth even the discounted price. My massage lasted the full time, but my mom's was only 45 mins. My mom's massage was with the lead therapist at that site, and she had a lot of the same complaints, that I had. The massages were rushed, they didn't do anything we asked, and the therapists we had did not have good enough techniques /skills to accommodate our needs. If you are considering Massage Envy, do not go to this location. I've had many deep tissue massages before this one, and neither my mom or I will return to this place for any type of massage. They simply operate on their own agenda, and don't listen to the customer. In my opinion your better off going elsewhere. Don't waste your time and more importantly your money. read more

I have been going to Massage Envy for about two years now...I LOVE my therapist Jessi- EVERY time I go she asks me what is going on today and massages accordingly......I have referred three friends and they have now joined. The staff is always helpful and on one occasion when there was a mix up at their end they upgraded my next massage because of their error. I love the e-mail reminders. There are several fund raisers during the year which I always take part in. read more

Stay away! Massage Envy is like the proverbial roach motel - its easy to check in but its very, very hard to check out. The massages that I got with a membership were just ok, and I could never book again with a therapist if I like them, but the price was also pretty low, so I basically got what I paid for, and therefore can't complain too much about my membership while it was active and in use. Then I moved out of state and cancelled my membership. For three months, my membership stayed cancelled; then my monthly charges started up again - nine of them. Despite repeated calls to Massage Envy and my credit card company, I ended up with $590.00 of charges on my account that I can't use. They finally agreed to refund me $177 despite admitting that the bad charges were their fault; but they would only offer to bank the remaining amount in services for me (and that only for a short time) in case I wanted to travel 2000 miles back to Reston to use them. That makes the whole experience very expensive and very frustrating. You can do much better elsewhere! read more

My experience has been wonderful - it took me a few weeks to find the therapist that was the "right" one for me. But since then, I've been seeing Tricia. She does a fantastic job, deep tissue, and any other special treatments I request that particular week. She's friendly, and very professional. The front desk staff are all inexperienced, and make mistakes - like gossiping or leaving the "privacy" door open - but they have always been very nice. I would suggest only having two people up front at any one time....any more than that, it gets crowded, and the others just "get in the way", seem somewhat unresponsive to the customers too. This place was a disappointment. I booked a one hour full massage a week in advance. I cleared my schedulento make it work. They called me 1 hour before to canclebthe appointment. Had a great experience here getting a facial today!! The receptionist was friendly and welcoming when I came in. The person that did my facial, Sue, was excellent and I will definitely return for her skills. She did such a great job with my skin and really was attentive to the areas that I considered my problem areas. She manually extracted my pores very well, which was much needed. First, I want to say that I give Therapist Sonia 5 stars, she is excellent! I'm not shy and like lots of pressure...she's not weak! As for the customer service, I have had membership issues in the past and the manager never replied. I had to repeatedly call her to get anywhere. I love it here, have been a member for over 2 years. I started going there for prenatal massage and have been addicted ever since. I had a bad massage once and was reimbursed - and that therapist is no longer there. They have always been very accommodating and I have never had a problem with any of the staff, they are always helpful. I see comments that you can never get an appointment, and that is not true. I almost always book a same day appointment as I never know when I can fit a massage in between work and kids. The only times I haven't been able to get in same day are holidays and some weekends, which is completely understandable. All in all totally worth the money. I like this place. Front desk messed up my appointments a few times in almost 2year time period but they are good. My therapist is great, after trying a few I settled with this therapist. I have shoulder and neck pain and I feel so good after the massage. I will definitely go to this place as long as I could and as long as my therapist works there. read more

I had an amazing deep massage done my Maylin today. She is very very strong and my muscles feel amazing. Unfortunately my mother was not satisfied as the man who gave her the massage did a poor job and did not put nearly enough pressure as she desires. I suggest Maylin!! The front desk staff are very friendly and helpful. I've been very happy with most of the therapists I've had. My only complaint was how slow it took them to transfer my account when I moved from another state- nearly a year. The reason it was so hard was because their computer system is so bad. However, the staff at the office is great. read more

I had a facial here done by a girl named Wakena- she was wonderful and so gentle with doing an exfoliating scrub. I had a great facial and overall great experience. It was amazing to start off 2016 with a facial and a massage here. They were able to take me at a last minute notice due to a cancellation at noon. I would definitly go back! read more

Definitely unimpressed with the receptionist. Apparently she was unhappy that I wanted a refund for a overcharge on my credit card. She presented two options and I obviously chose the one that caused her to get off the phone with an exasperated tone. Again it is always a pleasure dealing with customer service at this Herndon massage envy and it pains me to think that I signed up for a seemingly unending membership through this location. A member of Massage Envy for almost two years, I never thought I'd experience the lowdown customer service that I experienced from them today, Oct. 19, 2012.: I showed up at 4:20 for a ninety minute massage booked weeks ago and confirmed by e-mail a day and a half before. After waiting 20 minutes I asked at the front desk and was startled to be told that my appointment had been changed from 4:30 to 5:00 and would be for one hour. I was told they had left a voice message on my home phone; but I told them that I had been out all day and thus hadn't gotten it. Besides, I had understood from our agreement and e-mail reminder that unless I cancelled an appointment, it would take place. Thus, I was left waiting for 45 minutes for a 60 minute massage with the therapist whom I always have. She was appalled that I had been treated so shabbily. According to her, I had been lied too also: The front desk had said that the therapist had called and said that she couldn't come in until 5:00. What seemed to have happened the front desk bumped me in favor of giving another client a full hour at 4:00 -- two hours giving them more than 90 minutes of money, even if from a "member" customer. I let them know that I was not pleased with their treatment and their deception, but beyond an "i'm sorry they had been caught, I was offered no recompense. Their acts may have been illegal -- discriminatory in choosing one client over the other. Also, the fact that the manager on duty would so blatantly lie was hard to believe. By that i mean that the massage therapist has my cell phone number and would have called me directly is she had not been able to make it. I spent two hours at at ME today having one of the most stressful experiences in a long time. I will cancel my membership when the renewal rolls around. Judith read more

This was my first professional massage, having been dragged there by my girlfriend. The place was clean, everyone was friendly. I think my masseuse's name was Ashley, but I'm not sure. I got an hour-long massage focusing on my neck, shoulders and upper back. After the massage my head felt lighter and less physically stressed, so I guess she did her job well. I liked that she didn't try to talk to me about every little thing, but I bet she would talk your ear off if you wanted to. read more

I have been going to Massage Envy for 4 years and had different therapists, some of whom gave very good massages but many do not. Many young and inexperienced therapists are employed here and unfortunately unless you know who to ask for there is no directory listing therapist names and bios and education/experience levels. I had a massage last week with a therapist named Janice Prince which turned into the worst massage experience of my entire life and I have been getting massages for 15 years. Although I had arrived 15 minutes early to my massage, the therapist waited until I was in the massage room and the "massage time" had started to ask me to fill out an updated intake form although my most recent massage was only 2 months ago. She then proceeded to painstakingly review each detail - all of which took about 15 minutes off my 1 hour massage time As it turned out, it was just as well since the massage was so bad I left early anyway, but, in general, time in the massage room is reserved for dressing and undressing and brief questions as to client preferences - paperwork should be presented BEFORE massage room time. On the paperwork I indicated ONLY the shoulders/upper back and legs as areas of discomfort. The therapist gave me a face massage that was terrible. She put her whole flat hand over my face and nearly covered my mouth and nose so I felt I couldn't breath. Her hands smelled of cigarettes. I question whether she even washed her hands before the session started. Then she moved onto my neck area and without doing any stroking to increase blood flow to the area, she jammed her finger into the tendons in the middle of my neck. She was not even hitting a muscle. It was extremely uncomfortable and I was actually afraid she would damage a blood vessel or injure me in some other way. I told the therapist that my neck was fine and that I had only requested that she work on my shoulders, not my neck. The therapist became defensive proceeded to argue with me that she needed to work on the neck to release the shoulder. I cannot imagine why she thought it would be appropriate to argue with a client. The whole point of the massage is that it is for the client's benefit, according to the client's needs and wishes. Finally she moved on to working on my shoulder blade. Her technique was awful. She randomly pressed her elbow on various spots that were not related to muscle knots or attachment sites. By this time, I was just waiting for the massage to be over so I could leave, I was angry and uncomfortable and completely stressed out by her overbearing behavior. Then she started questioning me about how I stretched my "serratus anterior" after swimming. It is obvious this therapist is completely new to massage, and she seemed to think that using the full anatomical names of individual muscles would somehow prove her competency. (No - the way to prove you are a good massage therapist is to give a good massage!!) Also, this therapist seemed to be under the completely mistaken assumption that her scope of practice included some kind of medical function - as though I would actually go to a massage envy therapist for advice on muscular function and alignment. Trust me - if I need to see a physical therapist or chiropractor I will do so, but I do NOT go to a massage therapist for advice or guidance on what to do outside the massage room. I go to a massage therapist to get a massage. PERIOD. My words and tone of voice directly conveyed my displeasure with her whole approach but she continued to heckle me about why I didn't answer her and detail my stretching regimen for her. As she continued to heckle me and try to get me to engage in this conversation that I obviously didn't want to have, I finally I put my head up and said "I am ending the massage now, I want you to leave." UNBELIEVABLY this woman did not leave. She argued with me even more adamantly and actually told me that she was "trying to teach me something." Again - I come to Massage Envy for a massage - not for any type of "learning" experience that this completely unskilled therapist insisted she had the right to give me. Amazingly, I had to ask the therapist FOUR SEPARATE times to leave the room. I said "I want you to leave." "Please leave." " I want to get dressed now and you need to leave." If she had not FINALLY done what I had so plainly requested, I was contemplating whether I would have to start screaming for help from the front desk and whether they would hear me through the walls. As it turned out, her time management skills were so bad that although I left only 5-10 minutes earlier than I otherwise would have, she had only worked on my scalp, face, neck and one shoulder - not the other shoulder and she never even touched any part of my legs which I had also listed as an area of concern. The entire session made me feel threatened, violated and disrespected. read more

I've been going to this massage envy for 2 years, between 1-4 times a month. I've tried most of the therapists. I think this is a wonderful value for the money. I'm picky, but I'd say I've loved my massage about 95% of the time. I usually see the same 4-5 therapists. When I have to try a new therapist for some reason, I'm pleasantly surprised most of the time. And you can't beat this price - it's almost half what you would pay at a different place. If you need frequent massage for pain relief, I highly recommend a membership here. I'm a little surprised at the reviews given so far. The only "problem" I've had is that the front desk has changed the therapist or time on me a few times. But these things happen, and since the therapists and prices are so good, I've overlooked it. read more
