I AM NEVER COMING BACK HERE AGAIN! I had a massage scheduled for 9 am, followed by a facial at 10 am. By 9:05, I was still waiting for the therapist to come and get me. I checked with the front desk, and the receptionist confirmed that my therapist was in the building and would be getting me "in a minute." She didn't get me until 9:08 and she didn't start my massage until after 9:10 am. She apologized, claiming she was late because of the snow (even though they said she was there...) and assured me that she'd give me my full time. When she finished my massage it was 9:55 am! She didn't give me an hour massage, and to make matters worse, she used gloves the entire time. I'm not even going to lie, it made me feel like she thought I was dirty and didn't want to touch me. The lady who did my facial didn't use gloves when she touched my hands, so why did this massage therapist feel the need to do that? I have never in my life had this experience and I'm disappointed I paid for a service that was not fulfilled or meet my expectations. The therapist's name is Laura I believe. read more

MASSAGE ENVY NEEDS TO READ THIS: Earlier this week, it was my first time at a Massage Envy. The massage itself was perfect. I felt extremely relaxed and stress free...until I got back to the front desk. The gal at the front desk rang me up and then the sales pitch begun. I understand it's part of their job. BUT what's not part of their job is to ask WHY i'm opted out of becoming a member multiple times. What if I can't afford it? It was very embarrassing especially since there were others around. On top of that, the gal made a horrible face when I kept saying I can't become a member right now. Please, Massage Envy- teach your employees some etiquette. The first guy I saw (jim?) tall , just out of school) was ok .. but the second time I went (he was gone) I saw a woman (Wish I'd gotten her name- in her 20's Hispanic I'd say) and I asked if she could work on my neck. She refused to work on my neck at all while I lied on my back (you know, so they can work on it better w the weight of the head) her massage was bad overall and the staff kept asking "Are you SURE you haven't been to another location (or I wouldn't get the special) I had not. I can assure you I won't be going to another location either. Even the guy working there said to me that it's mainly for people right out of massage schools. BEWARE these people will sign you up for an annual contract and if you get too busy to make it in for a few months, they won't work with you AT ALL unless you pay up. They currently owe me 3 massages and claim I owe them for 3 months back pay before I can claim what is mine. That means I will have 6 massages. I was looking for a relatively cheap place to get a massage, and a friend recommended Massage Envy. Well I decided to treat myself to their introductory $49 1 hour massage (sweet deal!). Right when you walk in you automatically feel relaxed. The atmosphere is clean, the seats are super comfy, and the staff is very friendly. I filled out a form that asked about my health history and how I would like my massage. They make sure that you get the kind of pressure you want, focus or do not focus on certain areas, etc. I was then led into the relaxation room. This room is dimly lit with relaxing music in the background, along with a small waterfall and some complimentary water and mints. Finally on to my massage. It was great. The woman was very nice, and overall just did a great job. My only complaints is that she focused on my back, neck, and head for a long time, but not that long on my legs/arms. Also, I wish that the head massage would be first before they get all of that greasy massage oil on their hands. It would also be nice to have a heated bed/heated blanket instead of a space heater in the room. She did make sure that the room was kept at a comfortable temp. I was experiencing neck/ shoulder discomfort and wanted a chair massage. This was my first experience at Massage Envy. I don't believe I will be returning. First the positives: - It was easy to secure a same-day appointment. - The facility, including massage rooms and washrooms are neat and clean. - The massage itself was reasonable. No complaints about the massage therapist or his technique. Now the negatives: My request was for a chair massage. I was quoted $30 for a 30 minute massage, that is $1 per minute. My appointment time was 4:00, the actual massage began at 4:10 and completed at 4:25. That would be 15 minutes, or $15. However, the receptionist charged me $30. When I indicated that the massage was only 15 minutes, she went to inquire about it. She eventually charged me $20 because the massage includes 5 minutes for BEFORE and AFTER massage setup. This makes no sense. I've had minute massages before, and the charge is for actual time spent with the therapist. And if you are charging for "setup" then it should not be called a 30 minute massage. Also, I received a chair massage - fully clothed - no oils. Not sure what "setup" was required before and after (except maybe change the towel on the chair?) If you do visit, inquire exactly what your 30 minute massage entails. I will not be returning to this establishment and will be steering family and friends away. read more

I wrote the below review this morning and now for the first time ever I am editing my Yelp review. I believe her name is Terry (owner) contacted me within hours and very graciously took care of everything. By take care I mean she listened...really listened to what I had to say and addressed my cancellation request. I will not be filing with BBB since I was treated with kindness and respect by Terry. Still I would say beware and very careful...do not go by verbal promises. I am appreciative that the owner still knows how to behave and how to please a paying customer. She said "I am in the business of reducing stress and not increasing it." BEWARE! I signed up with the condition that I could cancel at anytime without a cancellation fee. I was assured over and over again not to worry and yes I could end membership without a fee at any time. Even right before signing I said "as long as I can cancel I am signing" Again a pleasant smile and and "of course you can!" After two months I am just not finding it useful and honestly I prefer Asha salon at Woodfield. So I walked in, as I was instructed, to cancel. The same man looked me in the eye and said "Who ME? I NEVER said you could just walk in and cancel!" In fact he said the only way is if I get a doctor's note or move away from a massage envy . He threatened me by saying "you know, you are legally bound by contract" I am trying to get in touch with corporate headquarters and will file with BBB. I am also finding all kinds of negative things online which I should have researched before. I have read that many people cant even get out of contract and the charges after the 12 months! I really like this location, a lot better than the other two I have be to before. The staff is super nice and their waiting room is very peaceful compared to some of the other ones (dark, running waterfall thingy, quiet music). I got a membership to Massage Envy for my birthday in October and I've struggled to find just the right massage therapist but I think I finally have! I really recommend Cynthia. She gives an EXCELLENT massage, like really really good. But, I had Anne last night because Cynthia wasn't available (apparently everyone thinks she gives good massages because she always booked when I call). Anyways, Anne was great. I have some back problems and she really took the time to ask me questions about where it hurts, the type of pain, and how it happened. She really worked on my back in the specific area I have problems. Too many times here I find therapists that you can just tell are going through the motions and could care less if you asked them to concentrate on a certain area. Not Anne, she was great! If you have any time of back problems.. I HIGHLY recommend her! She was super friendly and gave a great massage. Kudos to you Anne! I would be giving them 5 stars, but they loose my paperwork every single time I go there. I have to fill out the new 'history' form every time I go there. But, Anne said she made it clear to them not to loose this one. So, I'll bump them up to 5 stars if they don't loose my paperwork next time I'm there! read more

I have had an excellent experience here each of the 3 times I have been here. From the ease of requesting an appointment online to through the professionalism and expertise of the masseuse and front desk. Each masseuse knew exactly where my trouble spots where by feel and pin pointed them. They worked out the tension and made my day better for going in. They are great at their craft/art. Since my first visit about one month ago I have recommended this location to many people. You will walk out feeling better than when you walk in. You may be sore the next day and require some Motrin, but you will feel better overall and sleep better. Give them a try and you will not regret it! read more

My hubby bought me a prenatal massage for my birthday! We orginally had an appointment with the Schaumburg location but they had to reschedule our appointment for two weeks later and this pregnant mama to be needed her massage ASAP! The hubby called this location and they were able to fit me in with Pat. I went for my appointment on a Saturday and the staff was very friendly. They have a nice welcoming lobby area. After I filled out my paper work, they took me to the "relaxation room" where you wait until your massage therapist is ready. Make sure you fill out that paperwork accordingly because they really go off of it to know where to where on when getting your massage! Pat was wonderful and I think I fell asleep at one point when getting my massage! Ha! The room was nice and clean as well. Your first massage is $49, then after that the price increases to about $78 unless you join their membership which is $59 a month. Of course they are doing their job and want to build their client list so they recommend you come back and join the massage club. Unfortunately, Im not huge on massages like that and I only got one because my pregnant self needed one!! Definately do recommend this location. Great staff and very professional! read more

I have been going here for years and have been pretty impressed. I have never had a massage I didn't enjoy, although I do think some massage therapists have a style that fits my needs better (I like hard pressure). If one of my favorite therapists are not available, the staff at the front desk can answer questions about the style of the therapists that are available when you want to come in. This is a great help and something that other places don't offer. They are open early, late and on weekends so usually they can accomodate my odd scheduling needs. The only thing I don't like is that one time I went to cancel my massage (a few hours ahead of time) because I wasnt feeling good and I got a bit of a lecture from the person at the front desk about cancelling with less than 24hrs. I told her that if I was sick I didn't think she wanted me to come in and infect the place. She backed off a bit, but I still didnt really appreciate her approach. However, that was the only time in all these years that they have done something I didn't like. read more

Not only was he extremely knowledgeable and professional, but he also explained each stretch and how everything is interconnected. I like the place itself; clean environment, friendly staff, etc what I absolutely despise is the fact that when I ask for 90 minutes, I want 90 friggin minutes! I get gypped every single time I come here on time. I show up early, see the therapist walk someone else out, wait another 8-10 minutes, get shown into my room, they leave and I always tell them to come back in ONE minute. They NEVER EVER do this. They take their sweet time doing Lord knows what and I'm usually almost asleep when they FINALLY return to the room. If my massage starts at 10, please start massaging me at 10. Don't walk me into the room at 10:07 and not return until 10:14. Also, don't say we are done with a 90 minute massage at 11:22 because we are NOT. I joined years ago and have seen the membership price go up and the service go down. I also have a hard time keeping the few therapists that I do like a lot and who know my ailments. There seems to be a high turnover at this location. I honestly want to stop tipping altogether since I don't think I'm getting my money's worth anymore. read more

I hurt my back doing bench presses while working out a few months back. I thought nothing of it for a few days, thinking it would just work itself out. While cooling down from a session I over heard some guys talking about that they get massages. Never really thought of them before so I asked one of them about it. One told me to go see Edmond at the Massage Envy here because he was good at getting things out. I went in for the hour and I gotta tell you he rocked. He worked the heck out of my shoulder. I was warned that it would be sore for a few days and I was, but after that my back and shoulders have never felt so good. Went back for another few sessions and wooh it really helped. I'm a member now and can't go on enough about how much it has helped work out areas of tension that I had for a while and ones I never knew I had. It's a no nonsense kind of place with out all the frou-frou that one might think of in a massage place. It's more of a get down to business thing and that's want I need. I am so glad I took my friend up on this advice. Dino was extremely knowledgeable. and did a great job on my neck and back! Don't go here! I had a 90 massage on 8/10 with Giselle. She was unprofessional and disgusting. The most disgusting part was how she kept scratching herself all over her arms, legs, face - the entire time! In addition, she was clearly preoccupied and kept sighing, I am not sure if she was on her phone or what but she was not massaging - It was very uncomfortable. I wanted to address her but I was vulnerable on the table under the sheet, I didn't know what to do! When I was leaving, it was close to closing time and the front desk associate was signing up a couple for a new membership. I decided to call the following day to complain. The front desk associate said she is In charge for the day and assured me she will forward my detailed complaint to the owner and that I would be contacted during the week. I have yet to get a call, Giselle is also still accepting appointments. I called back to the location today, Chrissy told me she would call the owner now and someone would contact me today. Well... they are now closed and no call. I've been a member several years in Columbus OH, Cleveland OH and now here. I have never complained once before Gisselle. Please avoid this location!! I'm canceling my membership as I certainly do not want to support this business!! read more

I have been a member of Massage Envy in Hoffman Estates a very long time. Last Saturday, I finished my massage in a location I've been going to for over 4 years. (Not the Hoffman Estates clinic I have my membership through). I asked for this clinic to set up appointments for my 3 adult children and to get my transfers from the Hoffman Estates clinic. I received a call from the clinic I had just left and the woman was clearly shaken and upset. She said she had called the Hoffman Estates clinic and had never dealt with anyone so rude and dismissive. She was told that I could only transfer 1 massage a month and therefore couldn't transfer any to my kids. (I have lots of already paid for massages, that I have used for a very long time, by giving 1 to each of my children as a Christmas present). When I called the Hoffman Estates clinic, and explained the situation,I received the same rude, demeaning, and upsetting treatment. I asked to speak with one of the owners. She said she would give them the message, but that they owned 4 clinics, were very busy people, and would get back to me if they have some time. I have been asking for over 4 years to have my membership transferred to the clinic I use all the time. I can't even count the number of times I have requested this. I have heard absolutely nothing back from my requests. No denials, no explanations, just nothing. When I mentioned my requests for transfer, she said that it would never be transferred because my Hoffman Estates membership was in the same region as the other clinic, and they don't make transfers in the same region. So now I have all these massages that have been prepaid, and can only use 1 transfer per month. And since I can't stop purchasing my monthly massages, without losing ALL the massages I have already paid for, but which I can't transfer to the clinic I want to use, I am being bullied into going to the Hoffman Estates clinic. I have written to Massage Envy corporate, but of course have heard nothing back from them. I am so disappointed, upset, and feel cheated. Definitely not the feeling I should have from a company that is supposed to help relax and feel better. Bottom-line, Massage Envy Hoffman Estates, simply transfer my membership and my prepaid massages to the clinic I want to go to so I never have to deal with your clinic again. read more

I've been a ME member for over a year and recently moved to Hoffman from South Carolina. This was my first appointment at this location and it was beyond horrible. The therapist's hands were like icy sand-paper and her thumbnails dug into my back numerous times. Of the 60 minute session, we started at 10 after and concluded at 10 til which is not the advertised 50-minute hands-on time the site says. But honestly, I'm glad it was shorter because I honestly felt violated when I left. I asked for the session to focus on the top half, back and shoulders. What is the point in saying which areas you aren't comfortable being touched if they don't listen? Half the time she was just resting her hand on my butt, not doing anything, just resting it there and MUCH too low for comfort. Most of the massage time was spent around my waistline, brushing ever so slightly against my undergarment and at times pulling against it in the opposite direction just a bit too far. I certainly didn't ask for a 40-minute butt massage. She never once worked out a knot on my shoulders if she even knew how to find one, and never even touched my arms at all. If I could get a refund for this horrible experience I would. I will never be returning to this location. read more

This was my 3rd massage since joining and she was extremely rough. At times she pushed so hard my shoulder lifted from the table and I thought she was trying to push me thru the bed onto the floor. It wasn't the relaxing experience I was looking for. It felt more like physical therapy and I have bruises from her pushing so hard. At first the pressure wasn't bad so I didn't say anything thinking "ok, this isn't bad I can take" I can take hard pressure and usually enjoy a deep tissue massage but this was a bit much. read more

I have been suffering from lower back pain ever since I hit my teenage years. My lower back hurts almost all of the time. Last month, my back was so tight it was bringing me to tears. Even though Massage Envy in Schaumburg had provided a great massage to me before, I decided to try a new place (that also offered a discounted price for first time customers). WOW, what a mistake that was, this massage was a joke. Am I on "Candid Camera"??? I was treated with little dignity, privacy or consideration. (I could go on and on about this place but I'll save you.... ) After leaving this joke that was called a "deep tissue massage", I headed over to Massage Envy in Hoffman Estates as I was SO desperate to get a massage that would give me some relief. I ended up having a massage from Audrey and YES!!!! it was wonderful. She listened to every word I said, she concentrated on areas that I asked her to, she continued to assess my pain level to determine how much/less pressure to use, she made me feel comfortable by keeping me covered up in areas that should be, she was so professional and educated, and overall gave me the relief and relaxation that my body had been craving. However when I arrived they didn't have my appointment and said they were booked. It is surprising that they can't manage same day appointments. I now log into my bank account and see they have debited a card that I never authorized them to use. I feel like that's illegal for them to do without my authorization. read more
