I received a massage here as a Christmas gift! Boy, oh boy was I long over due for a massage. It was a perfect gift. Massage envy texted a reminder to my cell and confirmed the appointment when I replied to the text. The lobby entrance is located on the Waterman Street side of a large building, just about in the middle. Check-in at the large reception desk just inside. One of the staff confirmed my appointment and lead me to an area just off the lobby where she asked several questions related to my appointment: Areas of concern, pressure preferred, allergies to be aware of, health concerns, etc. After signing a waiver, I was brought around the corner to their waiting area. Lemon water is available here. Lighting is very low, soft music plays. A faux fireplace lends a nice glow. The building temperature is a bit warm, which you'll appreciate while getting a massage. My practitioner came to get me a couple of minutes after my appointment time, but I did get my full hour appointment. Restrooms are available for use before or after your appointment. My massage preferences were briefly discussed again, she left the room so I could change and dimmed the lights. Soothing music is piped throughout the building. My experience here was good. The staff are friendly and professional. The receptionist did try to sell me a membership before I left, which I declined. Unfortunately I never got my services. Yes multiple. I have been to this location many times in the past. This review is strictly for my scheduled visit on 6/28. I made an appointment for an hour massage followed by an hour facial over a month and a half in advance. I was very much looking forward to having some self care. The day before they confirm both appointments. Great. The day of, about an hour before the first appointment, I got a call saying the person who was supposed to do my facial was sick and the had to cancel it. Fine whatever it happens. I confirmed that I was still scheduled for the massage, and was told yes. I drove there and arrived early/on time for my massage. I was sitting in the relaxation area when the front desk person came to tell me the person scheduled for my massage just decided not to come into work that day. Just my luck. Both of my treatments got cancelled and one with no notice at all. The front desk person offered me an enhancement for a future treatment. You know the $15 enhancements like a foot exfoliation or a lip treatment, because that totally makes up for not being able to get any of my scheduled treatments with little to no notice. read more

I've been a member for almost eight years, and I wholeheartedly recommend this ME location. The staff and therapists are friendly and skilled, and client needs are a top priority. My favorite massage therapist is Jenna, who works wonders. I have chronic foot/ankle pain from a medical condition, and Jenna has been empathetic and effective during our sessions. I had 2 events happen to me - Covid, followed by a triple bypass. Message Envy did nothing to help me with my subscription problems (I would not go during covid, and could not use it during recovery) and I ended up eating it. I would not recommend this place to a dog for a massage. They will hold you over the fire if you get a subscription. No wonder they get sued frequently. Stay Away from any subscription options. They also "expect" you to tip $10-$20 per visit in addition to the overpriced massage. Terrible. read more

Went on a whim on a Saturday morning bc I needed some work done from overtraining during the week. I've been to this chain but a different many years ago and was unimpressed. Worked w a private practitioner for years after that but she's busy now w another career so I took a chance because of the ease of booking and the availability when I wanted it. All said and done, the experience was surprisingly pleasant. Met at the desk warmly by Ashley. After a short onboarding, was introduced to Chelsea. Came here because the hours of my normal place in east providence changed for a bit. I went to Randy and he was great! Really deep pressure which I need because for some reasons my muscles hate me. Switching from where I have my membership to here was no issue, allowed me to book it right on the app. Word to know, if you go to another location your card isn't saved on file. That I would prefer if it did that way there was a seamless transition because I don't usually take my wallet into massages with me because I'm used to them having the COF. Not too big a deal, they just added my card to this location as well. I did notice their suggested tips were different prices than the EP location just down the street so that's a little weird but I'll calk that up to the fact that this location is in Wayland square! read more

My chronic neck pain improved so much when I started regular massages with him. Lately I have seen Nicole for 90 minute deep tissue massages and she is amazing too. I tried to confirm an appointment was booked, nobody called me back until 20min before my booked massage (this spot is a 45min drive for me) and then lied to me that someone left a voicemail reminder a week ago... No the F they didn't, because I was waiting for an email, a voicemail, text, anything! This was the 1 time I didn't stand there and input that appt into my calendar right in front of them directly after my last massage. Massage Envy....let me begin by saying that these bad reviews are INSANE! I tried to comment on them or dislike them but, apparently that is not a thing. I've been coming here for over a year and this is my favorite place in the universe. I don't even believe these reviews about bad customer service. I've literally never had an issue canceling, rescheduling, booking, or anything of that sort. Every encounter I have had has been extremely professional and polite. To go even farther, I have seen customers act completely rude to the staff, and seen the staff handle the situation with great poise and respect. Customer service is NOT an easy job, and a thankless one, at that. Support staff: always friendly and polite. Manager (Aleah): always asking how the visit was, if there is anything they can do to improve. Atmosphere: very clean...tranquility room (aka - the waiting area) is pleasant enough. They always have a decanter of lemon water to sip as you relax. That whole zen thing isn't my cup of tea normally, but it beats waiting on a bench in a chiro's office. Therapist: Like anything else, you need to find the right fit for you. I have tried three different therapists at this location: my regular therapist is knowledgeable and skilled in deep tissue, and of the two backups/alternates I have had sessions with, one is the regular's equal and the other was a complete bust. Went to ME on a whim today with a gift card I had be given forever ago. Steph B. was my massage therapist and she was amazing. Finally someone who gives me the strong pressure I need!!! I went in hoping to relieve some of the tightness I've been having in my neck and back and Steph had me leaving loose, relaxed and pain free. I'm not one to sign up for monthly memberships but my experience was that wonderful that I decided to commit to treating myself with Steph once a month. The girl at the desk (I forget her name) was lovely as well. She wasn't pushy on the sale which normally would push me away...but she just gave me the rundown on the membership and what it had to offer. Today I went for a relaxing hour getaway, after a long weekend at work on my feet. I walked in, and I must say it was an experience to be swept in to the tranquility area which is a cozy waiting room and casually questioned about my lifestyle and areas of my body that are effected by it. Kat is an asset to any business as a salesperson and spokeswoman! Hats off to her go get em' attitude, and she sold me a treatment plan because of it. .Had an amazing full body massage with Stephanie who was equally amazing in technique and concern. She took note and worked on particularly troublesome areas without me thinking of informing her prior (I was just excited for my 1 hour massage). Great location for Brown students (which I'm not), not too much of a hassle to get to if you live further out, just don't kill any students because they dart out of nowhere. I never had a bad massage here, no matter who was the therapist, and I highly recommend this spot. There are lots of enhancement options but I'm never pressured for these add-ons. I really enjoyed my massage here. I had a 90 minute customized message and my massage therapist was fantastic. I cannot recall her name but I will update this review once I get it, as she was wonderful and I would highly recommend her. The establishment is quiet, clean and relaxing. You get a heated neck pillow upon your arrival, and once you check in, you can sit in the Tranquility Room on couches and chairs. The decor of this room is very important, as it sets the mood and gets you in a relaxed state before your massage. It has quiet music playing in the background, usually a trickling late or some soft instrumental, with pictures of nature rotating on the TV. You can sip on lemon or cucumber water, or make tea, while you wait. Your massage therapist will come get you (hopefully) at the start of your session. They ask you what you are looking for with the massage and if there are any areas to focus on. My upper back is the bane of my existence, so I asked the therapist to focus on that. Keep in mind that a 60 minute massage is really 50 minutes on the table and a 90 minute massage is really 80 minutes on the table as they include the introduction and cleaning of the room as part of your session. I recommend getting a 90 minute massage to really get the best results. My therapist worked hard and listened to my requests, changing the pressure when necessary in certain areas, following where I was tense (my back, always my back), and checking in a few times to see how the pressure was. I added on a sugar foot scrub for $10, which was so worth it! You can pick the different scent, and I went with lavender. My feet needed that! They were sore from having stood at work most of the day the previous day, and it added that extra bit of relaxation I really needed. My feet were smooth and pain free after that treatment. My back felt amazing after the massage and I was so relaxed that I could have just gone to sleep. I would definitely recommend this new location. I only took off one star because my massage started about 15 minutes later than scheduled, and I was there on time. Most of the missed time was made up by the therapist, so I'd really give this a 4 and 1/2 stars. Other than that, excellent experience! read more

Just had the most blissful experience at this ME location. Gina provided me with an exceptional facial, she was very knowledgeable about skincare and pleasant to talk to, my skin feels and looks amazing! Susan has hands with a magical touch because she gave me a phenomenal massage (I have had many and none have come close to this) that has left my whole body feeling light and relaxed, and I'm a physically active person with lots of tight muscles, very nice as well. They are coercive and misleading in making you sign binding contracts, which later reveal verbiage intentionally worded to be ambiguous in their favor. Do yourself a favor and go to the tens of other incredible massage spas in Providence that don't trap you into paying $70/month for a mediocre massage. Booked an appointment for a couple's massage on mine and my boyfriend's anniversary in August and had to cancel a few days before since we weren't going to be able to make it. Rescheduled the same couple's massage for September and my boyfriend gets a call AN HOUR BEFORE our appointment telling us that they had a 'NEW RECEPTIONIST' working the day I booked and she wasn't supposed to schedule an appointment for someone with a balance. Apparently when I called and cancelled the COUPLE'S MASSAGE from August they only cancelled my portion of it and counted my boyfriend as a no call/no show even though I specifically stated that neither of us were going. The receptionist I talked to today was very unwilling to help me out in any way and basically kept saying we had to pay $60 in order for us both to go to the appointment. The worst customer service I have ever experienced. Already cancelled my membership and will not be returning. I'd think twice before getting wrapped up in any type of monthly membership with them. read more

I had the most horrible experience here today. Let me preface this by saying how amazing the massage therapists are. They are the best that I have found so far at ANY location. The problem lies with their customer service. I am getting married next Saturday and made two appointments for facials in the couple's room for my fiancé and I for this Wednesday, three days before our wedding. My fiancé received a call stating that they needed to cancel his appointment and reschedule because the esthetician no longer worked there. Granted, these things happen but when I called to express my concerns that we would now no longer be able to have the session together, the manager Ashley, left much to be desired. When you are inconveniencing a couple during the most important week and of their lives, the answer should not be, "I'm sorry, there is nothing I can do". There was no empathy in her voice or urgency to rectify the situation. We will be transferring our memberships unfortunately. read more

I don't understand the negative reviews. I've been a member for almost 4 years ( was also going to the East Providence location before this one opened) and I've always had good experiences. I get a call reminding of my appointment EVERY time or if there is any changes etc. This is an excellent price for a massage and a great deal if you're a member. I'm sorry if there a people saying this is a scam etc it's because they don't don't read the fine print etc on fees that would be involved in anywhere that you sign a contract. Today was my first time at the Providence location. I was able to get in very fast due to a cancellation, which was great. Upon arrival, Michael at the Front Desk was a delight - He was informative, personable, and did a great job of acknowledging my personal needs and suggesting additional services (muscle recovery for today and a stretch appointment in the future). I'd also like to add that as a past Member who has visited multiple ME locations in New England, the Providence location is the nicest faculty with the nicest Relaxation Room. My visit began to go south at the point where it mattered most: on the table. Susan was my Massage Therapist. I was informed during my meeting with Michael prior to my appointment that she was more of a relaxation therapist. I communicated my desire for a more deep tissue experience due to the issues that brought me in today, so I assume (doing his job) he communicated this to Susan. From the moment she came to take me into the room she seemed aggravated with my presence. Once on the table, I was taken aback with how she was handling me (i.e how she moved my head/neck/arms, the way she was basically slapping lotion on me, and even down to the way she communicated with me) - It was all very rough. I couldn't even relax because I could feel her aggravated energy. A few times I literally opened my eyes to look at her trying to figure out what her deal was. The pressure of the massage itself was satisfactory. The massage itself wasn't the worst I ever had, but the way she handled me really threw me off. I've never experienced that with any massage therapist I've ever seen - Again, I prefer deep pressure, but even with the deepest of pressure M.T's always handle your body parts with meticulous care. Even when the massage was over, she patted me on the back roughly and was like, "The massage is over, be careful getting up" and scurried out of the room rudely. Not to mention, she didn't even try to close the sale of the Muscle Therapy that Michael tried to up-sell me on - Even though I really needed it. Again, I get massages quite frequently due to the injuries I have. NEVER in my life have I had an experience where I felt like the Massage Therapist literally hated me. That's no exaggeration, that's truly how I felt laying on the table. I am giving 3 Stars because of the experience I had off the table. My first visit a few weeks ago was okay. Waiting a bit too long 3 ppl came in after me and was taken in before me. The questions is what turned me off to never return. I just wanted a massage for relaxation which I expressed. They are not a phd and need to know their boundaries. When asked to join a monthly contract I politley said not at this time and the girl kept pushing as to why.SERIOUSLY! Non of you business what my finances are. Then when ready to pay they push a tip on you like I never seen before. It was uncomfortable. I ALWAYS tip and don't need to be forced. Needless to say I won't return.
