For most of the year, 2025, i would have an incredible 90-minute deep tissue massage with Robert F in Tacoma, every other week and I honestly can't say enough good things about the experience! From the moment I arrived, he was warm, professional, and made me feel completely at ease. He took the time to actually listen to what I needed and tailored the session perfectly to my problem areas. The massage itself was amazing--intuitive pressure, thoughtful flow, and just the right balance between therapeutic and relaxing. I walked out feeling lighter, looser, and genuinely refreshed, not just "temporarily relaxed." You can tell Robert really cares about his clients and takes pride in his work. I had a membership with Massage Envy through another location. When we moved to the Tacoma area, I called to inquire about transferring my account to from the original location. At no point in the entire time we spoke did the DISTRICT MANAGER tell me they would charge me to use my credits that I've already paid for. Fast forward to today, when I called to book an appointment and the front desk staff tells me I'll need to pay $20 to use each of my credits. This franchise has zero problems with lying to you about being able to use credits from other locations then charging you to use them simply because they aren't the "parent" location. Receptionist led me to believe that the money was refunded to my existing gift card, which never expires. Couple of years later, went to the Tacoma business for same procedure. I work in the Law Enforcement family and unexpected stuff happens. I was unable to get to my appt (which I was surprised no reminder was ever sent) and called as soon as I got off, which was during the time my appt was going. I had already been charged for the no-show (an unfortunate consequence of booking with Massage Envy) but asked that they refund the card and charge the gift card I was given (the only reason I booked with them) and they refused and said there was no way to do that.... no way to refund a payment?? I would have given no star but I had to to leave my comment. I was given a Massage Envy Gift Card with $200 on it. I called for an Appt at the Tacoma Mall location. The lady told me I have to give her debit or credit card to confirm and book my Appt. I told her I don't need to if I'm using gift card. You can use the gift card info I give you by this phone res. She said we don't do that it's not out policy. I told her your not getting it and that too many companies have sh#tty practices stealing from customers and selling their credit and debit information Or double charging customers once they get our personal info. First off why are the doors locked at 2-3 pm? You have to push a button for someone to let you in, isn't that a code violation for a door to be locked while the building is occupied? Anyways the front desk staff are very unprofessional and rude! Especially the fella with longer hair. Also why can't I change my location? The manager Jen won't allow me to. Most likely due to having so many credits. And the only way to change my location I was told by the rude staff is loose my 27 credits. So, something more must be going on with these 1-star reviews. Granted, I do tend to show up a half hour early to all my appointments. I typically go to the Puyallup location and experience hard salesmanship from the front desk, which is why I understand the discomfort at least one reviewer testified to. However, this Tacoma location saw me treated like the regular/member I am. She gave me clear directions and asked if I had any questions or wanted to add a service in a way that made me feel respected as a customer. (No drilling, and was so pressure free that I didn't forget to ask about the remaining length of my contract.) I understand some people can't stockpile funds to purchase the year outright, but it seems like that's a major contributing factor to their disdain for the company... But the company is not only not at fault but also kind enough to offer accessibility options. I have scoliosis that renders me immobile, so to allocate funds for a smooth relief experience is top priority for me. I can attest to the benefit of buying the year outright. It might resolve a ton of anxiety you might be experiencing while you read these negative reviews. In fact, as I was writing this review, Natalie (a massage therapist here) came to the tranquility room looking for her client. I'm not the one she was looking for, but she sat down and chatted me up a bit. She is so incredibly friendly and down to earth. She even gave a positive review of the therapist I am waiting on. I genuinely think the slights at customer service here deserve to be overshadowed by the more positive takes. I even had a positive banter with the maintenance manager. I booked two appointments (one for my sister and one for myself). The day of I get a message that was not very professional that asked me if I wanted to reschedule. I replied no and asked why and they said the therapist isn't available. I log into the website to ensure we are both scheduled and I only see one appointment. I told her I won't be rescheduling but my sister came into town and I really wanted to get a massage because she was so excited. A couple hours later I get another message stating my sisters therapist is out also so her appt was cancelled also. But then my sister gets a message that says she was cancelled because she recently has traveled out of state. This salon seems a bit like a hot mess. read more

I had to give 1 star just to leave this review. ME deserves a ZERO! I have been a member of ME for over a decade and have always received great service until today. This morning (around 5am) I used my app to book an appointment for the very same day (today) at 5:30pm. Around 3:30pm, I started coughing and felt sick suddenly. I called ME to ask to be rescheduled due to coughing so much. I didn't want to expose my therapist or ruin anyone else's experience having to listen to my cough echo through the walls. ME told me that they would have to charge me a "credit" for "cancelling/rescheduling" the appointment despite making the appointment only 12 hours earlier. They did not care that I was sick. I told them I would be at the appointment then. As I was driving there I got frustrated thinking about the conversation with them. I started to realize that this health care establishment really didn't care about health at all! They wanted me to come there sick so they could take my money or charge me for cancelling/rescheduling and take my money. There was complete disregard from ME for the therapist I was seeing and the patients at the location. Either way, they were going to charge me when all I was trying to look out for everyone's health at the facility. I arrived at the facility on time for my appointment. I stood at the door opening to the facility to maintain a good distance from everyone, and asked if they'd reconsider not charging me and rescheduling. They told me no again! I thought that by going there and allowing them to see how sick I was that they may make an exception. I stood there and told them that I was not willing to go through with my appointment and risk getting others sick. They said again that they will charge me if I don't. I said "if that's what you need to do, go ahead." I walked out and made the decision immediately that I will no longer be a member of ME and I will never give them another dollar. I have filled out the membership cancellation form and look forward to finding a new provider. I really thought that Massage Envy was a reputable company based on my experiences... I now know why there are so many 1 star reviews. Massage Envy.. you need to restructure yourselves and figure out what your priorities are. I prepaid for a year contract plus I had extra carry over hours for 90 minute sessions, the manager Jessica at this location assure me that if I used 60 min session I could " roll my 30 minutes over and use whatever you want, you will never lose those them"! Because of Covid and short staff I only received approx 1/3 of my proper contract sessions. When I tried to speak to the manager, to use the hours, she denied having any conversation with me, then she admitted she understood the contract wrong. Getting a call back from Owner.. well i'm still waiting!! I will Never do business with them!! ... A complaint is the only solution left since I've tried to speak to 2 managers already. I've tried 3 or 4 different massage folks and haven't found my "fit" as I'm looking for someone who does not talk my ear off during my massage and the touching-pressure does not give me pain following a few days after words. I'd highly recommend trying other places before ever agreeing to their high-pressure sales!!! In my experience, it's nearly impossible to get out of an "agreement." I went online to book a massage. I have unused credits, and booked my massage for $80, as I am a ME member and have been for years. When I booked, I got confirmation that it would be $80. However, after my massage, they charged me and extra $10 because I used one of my credits. There is NO explanation of this on their website. This practice should be reflected online if they are going to charge extra money. Highly unethical and probably illegal. No wonder the low rating. how is the location even still in business? I have just read SO many reviews of bad business practices and am shocked. I received a gift card from my kids for services last year, and booked an appt for facial, etc services. The day of my facial they called to say the person was out that day. No reason, no "sorry for the inconvenience" but I thought, okay well things happen. Nevermind that I had taken 2 hrs off work and rescheduled my day. So fast forward to today when I woke up - slight fever and sore throat. CAlled in immediately at 9am to say I was ill and with a facial obviously could not wear a mask but I didnt want to risk giving the girl my cold so I wanted to reschedule. She told me I would have to pay for every service that I was having done that afternoon if I cancelled and no recourse would be given. I told her wait, you guys just cancelled on me with no excuse, no apology and the same day as I had taken off work , etc... I didnt get offered a gift card or monetary compensation for my time taken off work. But, now I am genuinely ill and they would rather I come in and expose everyone to a cold or whatever rather than just reschedule. This is the worst business practice I have ever seen. Unfair, and unethical. DO NOT use this location as it is clearly mis mananged and not handled well. As for their services unfortunately I have not had that pleasure. Went to try it out and honestly was pretty disappointed first time to try it out is $60 and then to go after that you have to commit to pay for 1 yr a monthly fee of 75$ or if military of federal employee it's 65$ if you don't wish to commit you can pay $90 for a 60 minute visit. The 60 minutes includes 5 min beforehand consultation and 5 minutes after so the actual massage is 50 min. My honest opinion is keep looking for the price it's not worth it. Just want to take the time and add yes massage envy did comment on this review but typical for companies like this to give a generic apology and not completely personalize it. Unfortunately I've had a really poor experience with this massage envy. The massage itself is always good and I do appreciate that but they have no customer service and they are not reliable. If I'm going to pay a monthly membership to a corporate company I expect to get more than I would from and independent party but they have proven unable to provide it. At least when someone independent cancels on me, they offer me alternative times so I'm not having to go completely without. I schedule my massage appointments strategically because I need to manage my pain and they've made that a real challenge so I will now find someone local and independent to give my money too. And ultimately that is what I encourage you all to do, consider supporting someone who lives & contributes to our community and not to a company who pays a fraction of what they charge to their employees and profits off low cost labor read more

My wife bought me a gift card at Massage Envy for our 2nd anniversary. Needless to say, I was psyched to get a good 1 1/2 hour massage. I had been complaining about my back since flying here from Japan....a long 11+ hour flight. First things first, i've had several massages at many different establishments so I like to think I know what right looks and feels like. When I walked in, I was immediately greeted by a professional and courteous customer service staff. I was offered a warm neck wrap, water, and a seat so I could fill out my paperwork. So far so good. After filling out my paperwork I was ushered into the next room which was dim, had a water fountain and soft music to get me ready for the massage....nice! My escort explained that my therapist would see me shortly. This would be when everything went downhill.... My therapist whispered my name to come on back. She motioned me into the room, asked me what areas needed the most attention (ok, so you didn't see the paperwork you made me fill out a few minutes ago), and then she began to up-sell me. What happened to the soft voice and fluid motions? Not only did she offer more products than what was on the gift card my wife got me, she never came in the room. i was inside and she was hustling me outside from the hallway; made me feel like if I didn't agree to an additional service she would not enter the room. So I agreed to a plant therapy thing (she spoke so fast I still don't know what I agreed to). I would have felt better about an up-sell if it happened in the beginning. Once past the point of no return, your job is to relax me, not hustle me. So I get on the table and the face piece is so hard I can't get comfortable. Now remind you this is a 1 1/2 hour massage. Every few minutes I had to adjust my face so it wouldn't go numb. So the therapist comes in and starts the massage with a heavy handed blow to my back with cold massage cream. Cold is not good. But it eventually warms up....and dries up quickly. And she waited too long to re-moisturize her hands. It would get to the point where she was practically pulling my skin before reapplying more cream. Now a good massage is methodical. The therapist works you from one direction to another. This massage was sporadic. It went from my neck to lower back to shoulder to lower back to neck and everywhere in between. She didn't massage my hands at all, and I love the finger pulls and joint manipulation. Several times she spent at least 10-15 seconds away from me and she made a lot of noise moving around. Again, not methodical or trance inducing. I noted that my feet were a place that needed special attention. But of course she did not read my paperwork nor heard what I said when she asked me at the door. If I said she massaged my feet through a sheet (no cream), yanked my foot, patted it, punched it, rotated it, and stuck it back under the blanket, i'm afraid I would make it sound good. She spent all of 2-3 minutes on each foot and treated them like they were dirty. This disappointed me the most and I wanted to just tell her to stop at that point. But she had one more torture move to put on me. And just so you know, I had a pedicure not two weeks before this visit so my feet were not prehistoric. While laying on my back she worked on my neck pretty good. Unfortunately, her last move was a very unexpected yank on my head which caused pain. Not a good way to end a mediocre massage. After the abrupt stop, she asked if I wanted water. I said yes and got dressed. When I exited the room she thanked me and showed me the lobby. (Where is my water?) In the lobby the customer service staffed tried to get me to purchase a membership. Well you know the answer to that. I just couldn't wait to leave. With a membership the prices are cheap, $57 for an hour massage? That is a real bargain. But with the skill level I experienced, it's not worth it. I'd rather pay a pretty penny for good service. Update: 6 April 2013 I got a call from the General Manager (new Sheriff in town) who wanted to give me a complimentary massage after seeing this review. I took them up on the offer. Again the customer service at the front desk was awesome. But this time the entire experience was great. The masseuse (damn, I forgot her name) was on point. She made sure I was comfortable, checked in with me after a few minutes of the massage to make sure the pressure was ok....then it was lights out. I had the best power nap on that table. I think I was snoring for a while. When I woke up she had water waiting. Now this is the type of massage I like. After it was all done I was greeted at the front desk by the general manager that I spoke with on the phone and reminded about the memberships they offer. Although the front desk girls are awesome, as well as the overall customer service... the massages themselves aren't really worth the membership dues. If anything, I would recommend the deep tissue massage (from Ima- heavy hands lol), rather than the relaxation because its actually more of a massage. Although Felicia is good at 'relaxation', I'm just not very impressed with the technique. Yes it is relaxing, but it feels as if they are simply running their hands up and down your body. The "Microdermabrasion" (or so I thought) as advertised (very misleading) was actually just a very expensive facial and not worth it either. I had to use one of my pre-paid massages, along with an extra $10 charge in order to have one done. Janelle the esthetician was very nice, but I've gotten a microdermabrasion before and this was not one. Microdermabrasion treatments use a very expensive tool (crystal or diamond tip wand) which deeply exfoliates and vacuum dirt and dead skin from your face. I've been coming here for more than a year now and overall, I've been happy with the massage therapy here. But, its a bit like Supercuts, in that, its good to have a therapist in mind that you can request. Otherwise, you can end up with that bad haircut, or in this case, a so-so massage. I would highly reccomend Nicole or Tracy. I agree with the other reviewer that its really nice to be able to call the day of, and schedule a massage, as long as you know that the person you're getting is probably one that doesn't get a lot of requests. But, I do try to book mine out a few weeks so that I can get the person I want. Anyway, Massage Envy is very clean though, which is a big deal I think. You are offered a warm or cold neck wrap when you arrive and you then wait for your therapist in a quiet room. The massage rooms are very relaxing and usually warm, comfy beds. I think massage is a very individual thing. Either you're going to like it or not. But out of the handful of places I've gone, I would reccomend at least trying it. They do require you to be a member of their program pretty much past the first massage or else you will pay a lot more. It makes you sign up for direct payment from your bank account. I guess thats their corporate gimmick to get you back in and I know not everyone would like that. Also, their reccomended tipping scale of $12-$18 for a one hour massage I think is a bit high. Maybe I'm just cheap, but I usally give 10 bucks for tip. Overall, if someone is searching for a decent massage in Tacoma, I would at least try this place first, and then go from there. read more

Access Access Access!!! The great thing about Massage Envy is the accessibility. It's located in the Tacoma Mall so access wise it's easily located. As for hours it's 800-2200HRS on weekdays and less on the weekends. They are fully stocked with massage therapist who do the general "deep tissue" to variety to include trigger point release, myofacial release, stone, sports, etc. Having said that I never quite know my schedule well enough to "schedule" or "plan" to get massages. How it works for me is... "hey do you have any appointments availble today?" And they give the hours that day that are not filled. Of course, I don't quite have the luxery to request who I want b/c I don't even know when I can go in so I take who I can get. I'd say of the 4 massages I received so far I was satisfied 3/4 of the times. At an hours session they give you about 50 minutes of total massage time. (5 minutes to dress and 5 minutes to undress). Of the massage therapist... I can't say they are the best in the bussiness but... i'm not complaining either because price is reasonible. As for payments... unfortunately you have to get an annual membership which cost about 50 bones a month (which gives you 1 free hour massage a month and 39 bones for each extra hour). I was on vacation and wanted a massage. My husband and I asked if they did couples massages they said yes but we had to wait 3 hours. We agreed and hung out at the mall. We ate and shopped. When we got back we filled out paper work. They asked why we chose them and we told them they did couples massages and no one else did. Our therapist came to get us and to our surprise we were in separate rooms. I was so annoyed. My therapist John was apologetic and told me he was sorry. I didn't want to ruin my massage so I just went with it. But I was annoyed. John did such an amazing massage. He made me forget about the situation. He was very educated and experienced. Today's massage was a terrific experience. When I arrived (this was my first visit) I completed a very brief COVID questionnaire then a woman took my temperature. Then I went to another (more private) waiting room where Jazmin asked me a series of questions re: have I had a massage before, what were my concerns today, then I answered some questions on an iPad about my physical health. Then my massage therapist (Erin) introduced herself and asked a few more questions. This massage was so relaxing and helpful. No more stress! THE SERVICE IS ATROCIOUS. I was at the mall doing some shopping, when I saw Massage Envy. I went in to inquire about their prices. The girl told me $39 for my first one hour massage (after that it changes to $100/massage unless you join their membership program). I gladly signed up for a massage to take place in 30 minutes. I was taken to a quiet room where one girl came in just to tell me "Another girl is going to come in to preach at you in a couple minutes." Now, the first girl I talked to who told me it was $39 for 60 minute massage came in. She told me it was actually going to be "50 minute hands on." The first 10 minutes will be spent speaking to Robert, my therapist that afternoon, and the last 5 minutes will be spent showing me how to stretch (so actually it came down to a 45 minute massage that they advertise as 60). As she leaves (with 15 minutes to spare before my appt), I get a call stating there has been an emergency and I have to leave. I go to the front desk and speak with now a third girl. I tell her a situation had come up, I need to leave, but I'd like to reschedule. She was very pretentious in the way she spoke to me, telling me I'd have to pay a cancellation fee. I asked why, when I had only been there 10-15 minutes as a first time walk in. She continued to repeat herself a few times, insisting I pay the fee. I told her I would not. She retaliated, telling me I should have gotten another client to take over my appt. Again, I told her I had only been there a few minutes. The first girl I spoke with finally chimed in, confirming I was a walk in. The girl trying to charge me the fee finally says, "oh,"and stands there blankly. I politely tell her "you know what, nevermind. I'm not going to reschedule after all,"and left. What a terrible experience. read more

They canceled my appointment at 9 am the day of the appointment. When I went in to reschedule and find out what happened the woman at the desk (who refused to give me her name), asked me what I wanted from her. When I expressed my disappointment she threatened to call mall security for making her uncomfortable. It's a scam!! read more

Made an appointment online yesterday for tomorrow for a hot stone massage. Was called to confirm appointment this morning. Was called at 8pm tonight to be told there isn't the "proper time to clean up after your session tomorrow" so I couldn't have a hot stone massage. Offered me one next week. No. My back is hurting now. That's why I made it for now. Not next week. If you can't handle the requests, update the system. My first time trying to use it since becoming a member. I got a gift card for an hour massage and then I went ahead and upgraded to a 2 hour. I was ecstatic when they said they could get me in the next day! My massage was mediocre, I asked for deeper pressure 2-3 times she just sped up and would lighten up almost immediately. So, I gave up asking. It was a very vague massage, lots of lotion rubbing. She didn't do specific work and also didn't stop to work on any areas that I needed. I asked her to do my shoulders longer because they were my main issues and she did so that was good. Massage Envy is very plain. The waiting room is a love seat in the hall and a water dispenser, they did offer me a hot pack and that was nice. When I came out of my massage the lady up front did not smile, nothing. It was very rehearsed and uniformed and when I decided not to sign up she brushed me off started talking to the person waiting next in line before I could even leave the counter. I've worked in the customer service industry my entire life and I know that's not how you react when you don't get a sale. I might have came back to try another therapist but not after that. That shows me that the culture of their staff is not for the client's best interest. read more

I was gifted a free 60 minute massage and redeemed my much-needed gift. For first-timers, they request for you to be there about 20 minutes earlier to fill out paper work and a consultation. I was greeted by a nice young lady who hands me a iPad to feel out my health history and address problem areas. She gets me a tea and a heated shoulder pad (awesome!). After the iPad forms, she comes and sits by me to go over my info. At this point, I've been around the massage block before and just want to get my massage going! She asks questions about my health history and why I came today then asks me if I ever used essential oils and says they are on sale. I said "no thank you". She tells me they have Biofreeze on sale. I say "I've got something similar, I am good". She then goes over their membership rates and asked me if I was interested, I said "no thank you" (I'm seriously ready to get the massage started now, just saying) then she talks about a special rate for new members will only be offered today. Again, I say politely, "I'm not interested right now". I finally get escorted to the waiting area for my massage and had a great massage experience. Afterwards, I get checked out and again I am asked if I wanted to join at the special rate and I AGAIN said, "no thanks". I am just not a fan of the the hardcore selling of memberships. I just want to come in and get my massage especially if it was a gift I want to enjoy a present not experience selling pressure. Ask me once, okay fine. If I say no please move on. I am more than willing to pay for a service that I want, it doesn't need to be pushed to me over and over. This experience really turned me off from joining. Sadly, the massage was great and staff where nice but it was overshadowed by the pressure to buy this or that I received (not to mention the numerous emails I received after my "gifted" massage to join).
