If you like being treated as a valuable customer or at least with respect, don't come here. The owner doesn't care about running a business that treats anyone with respect. Look up articles on instances of sexual impropriety and the cases and lawsuits. No wonder employees don't care when they work for someone like this. If you want to sign up as a new customer man they're all over you and all friendly at this location as well as any location but also with this location, if you're already an existing customer, good luck. I waited over half an hour after my massage to try to pay for it and leave a tip but the woman at the counter was trying to sell a whole family on the phone and wouldn't even look up at me and wouldn't take my credit card and I finally left. I came back a couple times and she was still on the phone and still ignored me. So I post a negative one star review after looking up the owner and unlike most owners who care, and would take the opportunity of a complaint to resolve it and make the customer a happy loyal customer, he instead chose to attack me and question why I leave so many one star reviews at different places. Well that's because so many people don't care today. Of course he didn't mention the five-star reviews that I give when I run into people who care in good service. And he didn't mention all the five star reviews I leave for businesses with caring employees which comes from the top . I'm the first to let management though. I thought this management would want to know but I was wrong. And in my post I talked about how great the massage therapist was but now in hindsight I realize I don't want to see her again anyway because after having professional massages for decades and with my wife being a massage therapist and I know all about the ethics, I have never been accused of anything inappropriate. However, Lynn, early on in the massage, threatened to blacklist me. I was shocked. When I'm being worked on I close my eyes and I work on block breathing to help let the therapist into my muscles more. She went to move my arm and apparently it brushed against her. That's when she told me I could be blacklisted and I didn't even know what I did and I asked her and I apologize that if I touched her while my eyes were closed while she was moving my arm it was not intentional. 2 months ago I joined Massage Envy and I've encountered many excellent and caring therapists and a few front counter people at locations are run by management who cares but for the most part the people at the counter are just taught to sell. read more

I love this Massage Envy! I first want to address some of the issues that other people mentioned. I was worried about switching from a female massage therapist to a male massage therapist, but I want to say that I had NO PROBLEM with Gabe or John. Both were incredibly professional and warm (outgoing). For those that are worried about your massage being a hit or miss, you can ask the receptionists at the front to be given someone to better suit your needs. I prefer a lighter massage so I switched from Gabe to John who is absolutely fabulous. Ask for what you need during a massage (lighter touch, etc) and search for a massage therapist that's right for you. (Don't stop until you find the perfect fit. I went to 4 different people before I found John.) I have been on a quest for 6 years, (2006 when the shoulder pain started) to find someone to help me decrease my pain. I have been to several "professional massage therapists" who have individual practices around the valley and was very disappointed. The problem with other practices was that they would get rid of most of the pain, but not all, which would cause a headache. I have neck and shoulder pain that causes severe migraines, and if the pain is bad enough, I cannot turn my head to the right or left. I was already on an exercise and stretching regime, and I put heat on my neck at night. Massages were my last option for pain free days. At other spas or hospitals, I felt inappropriate stopping someone in the middle of a massage and saying, "It still hurts right here. Can you please get to that?" Or I would ask and they would work on another area of my body that THEY felt needed more attention. (I have spasticity in my legs and lower back due to cerebral palsy; people always want to massage my legs.) I can address those other areas with exercise, and I really needed someone to listen. I WILL NEVER GO TO A HIGH END SPA FOR A MASSAGE AGAIN. ALWAYS MASSAGE ENVY. John is/was that person. I would give this location FOUR stars for: Good front desk service, friendly staff, clean facility. The staff are flexible and will work with my schedule, different payment methods (if I need to for one month switch cards), and they are understanding when I am late. John is the reason I am giving the location FIVE STARS, however. For attentiveness, professionalism, helpfulness. I am 97% pain free, and I can do so much more with his help. read more

I have been a member of Massage Envy for over six years. One of my first massages was with Gabe. He was very friendly, professional and gave a good massage. I subsequently moved out of the area for a few years and have been disappointed by the customer service and massages I got from other locations. I was on the verge of canceling my membership and forfeiting my banked massages because I could not bear to sit through another BAD massage for 50 mins.! In efforts to salvage some of the money I already spent on prepaid massages I called this location to see if Gabe was still employed there. I figured after all this time he could have only gotten better. Well that was an understatement!! I have been to many spas out of town and even out of the country and it is refreshing to know that I can get that type of service right here in my own town. I don't live as close (actually pass two other locations) but I wouldn't think of going to any other location or seeing another therapist! If you have an aversion to being massaged by a male therapist, rest assured that I have never once felt awkward or felt that he has acted inappropriate in anyway. Believe me, I have stories on that from other locations!! His professional behavior has actually renewed my faith in having a male therapist in order to get the deep tissue massage I like and need! But he is very adaptable, meaning when I just need a relaxing massage he is just as perfect. Like my rating states, "Woohoo! As good as it gets!" is exactly what I think of this location and of Gabe! I first came to this Massage Envy because I woke up with a ridiculous sore in my shoulder. I called around 8:30 that morning and asked to get a massage that day as early as possible so I could still go into work. They got me right in with an appointment at 10:00. My massage therapist was Gabe. He. is. the. BEST! I told him that I wanted him to work exclusively on my shoulders for the whole hour, and that he did. He even showed me a few stretches I could do to help relieve any future pain. I decided to sign up for the monthly membership, honestly, because Gabe was so great. Unfortunately, Gabe only works weekdays from like 8am-3pm. Not exactly the best hours for someone with a normal 9-5 who would prefer weekend time massages. However, Gabe gives such great massages, it's worth it to have an early morning 8am appointment and just get to work a little late once a month. Plus, they've been running a special lately for free sugar foot scrubs on Mondays and Tuesdays from 8-12. I'll take it! :) This place is always very clean and the employees are always professional and courteous. I'm not snobby enough to put my nose up at Massage Envy because it's "commercial" or " a chain." It's a quality service for a reasonable price. Can't beat that! I started going to Massage Envy as part of my physical therapy to treat overused muscles in my back and quads. I was having a horrible time try to get from point 'A' to point 'B' no matter how short the distance. It was so bad that I couldn't even work! I was not a believer that massage would really help; I didn't see how it could (I'd never had a massage before). When I first started my muscles were SO unbelievable tender that I couldn't fathom why people did this to "relax". Little did I know that it was really just my condition that was making me feel that pain. After weeks of therapy with the AMAZING and knowledgable Yoshi and Tess....I was up and moving again, but better than ever! I still go regularly to continue my therapy. I am so grateful to these wonderful ladies and the other massage therapists there. After suddenly not being able really get around for approximately six months there aren't enough words to express how great full I am, especially to Yoshi, whom I've been treated by the longest. This location is clean, full of friendly and knowledgable staff. They listen to you and get to know what is best for your treatment whether you are there to relax or get therapy to accompany your physical therapy. HINT: book your appointments in advance!!! I've been a client for more than five years and have always been very satisfied. I've had many different therapists and types of massages and have always felt rejuvenated and rested after each one. I highly recommend two therapists: Scott and Maribel. Both therapists are competent and confident. They listen to your requests, share their wealth of knowledge readily, and most importantly, give the best massages you will ever have. Both are cheery, focused, physically strong and very caring. A massage therapist can be like a doctor: when you find someone with whom you are well-matched, the benefits will only increase the longer you stay with that therapist. Regarding the administrative staff: any billing questions I had were always promptly and courteously resolved. From front desk person to manager, each employee always makes me feel well-cared for. I am greeted by every employee with direct eye contact, a smile, and excellent service. No one ever makes me feel rushed. In five years of course there have been mix-ups with payment etc--but problems were always patiently and permanently resolved. Katharine especially gives superior and personal customer service. I work full time and have a very busy life w/my husband, 2 teenagers, 1 preteen and 2 little ones at times life can be chaotic so I invested in Massage Envy and went for 1 massage with Robin who I was referred to by a few of my co-workers who see her monthly. She was really great! The relaxation room is genius for someone just getting off of work, it really is needed for you to sit and relax, just to get in the mind set of relax mode. After my first massage I signed up for the monthly plan, I didn't feel forced or coerced by the front desk at all, I'm an adult and am able to say yes or no and I thought it was a great massage and wanted to make sure I take care of myself too and $40 a month for Mom seemed pretty well worth it! I decided to "try" a facial as well, my Second visit was w/Farrah and she is AMAZING!! She is very sweet and her voice is very soothing and very much needed after a hectic day of the office. She suggested not forced a few products for my face and I've used them now everyday going on 2 weeks and my skin feels refreshed and brighter, I've gone back 2 times and will continue to go for a massage and my facials!! What a great experience!! Busy life working long hours in the kitchen and this place is going to save my body!!! Came in for the first time at this location and the staff was great. So friendly, so welcoming and helpful with scheduling since mine changes at the drop of a hat! My therapist Tajia was awesome!! I like a deep massage, like almost to the point of hurting a little because my back and shoulders are SO tight and have some pinched nerves, and she was awesome. Found the problem areas and worked on those till time wouldn't let her continue! It was great! When it hurt to much she knew just by touch and took a different approach. She even pointed out she was taking a little extra time on center of my back (you know ladies, right where the bra strap goes!!) because so many people forget the focus on that area we use the most! I really love this location. Went in today for a 90 minute massage (the only way to do it, an hour is never enough!) I was sad to find out that Joe is no longer working here. I saw Lori today. I don't want to say it was a bad massage, it just wasn't the massage for me. I know people have different preferences. I really loved the foot and hand work. Usually the feet are just quickly massaged and then they move on, but she really focused on them and did detailed work there and I loved it! She also did great glute work. The rest of the massage was just too much quick, repetitive movements for me.. I really prefer slower strokes. It almost felt like it was making my skin numb/raw from going back and forth fast. Again, not saying it was bad, just not what I usually like. The front desk is nice, as always. And they are always very accommodating when I call last minute to make an appointment. Overall, this is a great center and I will continue to come here and try new therapists! read more

I use my birthday gift card at the Massage Envy Spa at the Tempe location on Elliot Rd/Kyrene, the location was very clean from front to back. I give this location 5-stars and this is why... I did not know what to expect seeing I've never had a professional massage before I was a little nerves but as I arrived I was greeted by the front desk staff one person in particular was Jessica she was very friendly and helpful, she made this process easy and comfortable for me. The therapist, Cherie, was very professional she asked me several questions about my pain and she explain the deep muscle therapy that she would be applying on those areas. Cherie work wonders on my problem areas after, she talked about my muscle tension and reduced range of motion and she was very knowledgeable on the recommendation. I have not only scheduled my next appointment but I signed up as member, I was very satisfied with services. Great Job! read more

I've been going to this location for a few years on and off and except for my very first appointment, have always had Gabe as my therapist. He's great! He took the time in the beginning to discuss everything from what I was comfortable with to types of massage and pressure. I've been to many therapists around the Valley, including at the high end resort spas, but I've been consistently happy with Gabe because he's able to tackle my problem areas. He can vary the pressure well and communicates with me to be sure it's ok. I get massages for the therapy of them and to work on kinks. I also have lower back disc degeneration and this helps greatly. I live quite far from this location (about 35-40 minutes drive), but have specifically gone back to this location in order to book with Gabe. While I don't want to compete for appointment spots :) I'd be doing a disservice to others to not recommend that you schedule with him! read more

I go to Massage Envy for facials from Farrah. I was hesitant to try a "chain' for a facial/massage, but I received a gift card and decided to give it a try. I have been really happy with Farrah as an aesthetician. She is professional, kind, and takes time to educate me how to better care for my skin. What really sets her apart, though, is that she makes sure every need of mine is met. She has even scheduled me as her last appt of the day so that she can spend more time addressing my skincare concerns. Best of all, I have seen positive results. I have had several facials before at other more exclusive spas and I am not missing anything with Farrah. Plus, you can't beat the price here. I have never been to any other Massage Envy locations, but everytime I come to this one the staff is courteous, helpful, and everything is very clean. Overall, I'm a happy customer. read more

Just an FYI about Massage Envy -- they also do really nice facials with Murad products! Since I'm a regular Massage Envy massage client, I decided to try the facials there, and I scheduled a facial with Cynthia, who is just wonderful! First let me admit it, I'm OLD...not much I can do about chronological age, but nothing says I have to LOOK old! So I am a fan of regular facials. I have had facials at most of the "snooty" Valley day spas & resorts. All were good, but, honestly, for the money, Cynthia's facials with the Murad products were just as good and effective. Avoid the extractions if you are a "wuss" -- they can hurt, but the rest of the procedure is relexing and rejuvenating. Cynthia is a pro -- she is also fascinating and truly interested in her clients and their well-being. Go see her, you'll like her!!! I do!!! read more

I have been going to Massage Envy Spa - Tempe location monthly for around 4 years and just can't stop. Aaron has been my massage therapist from the start and I have recommended him to many of my friends because I have never had a bad massage! I always leave feeling amazing. If you hit up this Massage Envy - request him and you won't be disappointed! The Tempe location is clean and everyone I've come in contact with is professional and helpful. I go for deep tissue but they offer a variety of different types of massages - something for everyone! I love the membership program as I do not have to think about paying monthly (automatically paid on the first of the month) and if I cannot use a massage during any month - then I can carry it forward to the next month which is great for my hectic schedule. I'm old, fat, out of shape and have degenerative arthritis in my hip. The pain and tightness in my lower back and legs had gotten much worse recently (possibly tied to tension from caring for an elderly disabled parent who just passed). Walking even short distances was very unpleasant. I had a bunch of pre-paid sessions and the gals at the desk suggested, after I'd just had a wonderful hot stone massage and facial (was a 'be-nice-to-me' day), that I consider booking an assisted stretch session with Richard. OMG - AMAZING! The process is interesting - very collaborative - and not at all painful. I experienced a real increase in the range of motion of my legs and a significant decrease in leg and back pain by the end of the session, and it has lasted! Wish I'd done it sooner.
