I've given this location 3 tries and it's always SOMETHING with them, from therapists cancelling the appointment 10 mins after check-in, to the constant up charges, I'm done with tenleynriwn and I rate it one of the worst ME locations in the DMV. I tried calling to book a couples massage and the girl on the phone today 7/14/22 at 3:40pm was sooooo rude, talked over me multiple times, told me there was an up-charge for being in DC and then told me I had to call other locations and she wouldn't do it just to transfer credits, and was just so rude and sassy, she gave a haughty "you're not good enough for us" attitude even though I've been a loyal massage envy member for over 6 years. The attitude was totally uncalled for. I'll taking my business to other locations in the area and avoiding the remote location altogether. read more

So after my initial experience a couple months ago the manager invited me back to have a better experience which I did. My deep tissue massage was with Cynthia and she was able to get my knots out without causing me pain and only some pressure. I liked her technique without the overuse of elbows. The next day I felt refreshed and not sore like the last massage I received there with a different masseuse. I had little interaction with the front desk which I was very grateful to avoid. I still just don't find the staff friendly or comforting pre or post massage. I want to be in a relaxing environment and not feel stressed. I recently bought a massage package with another spa but my plan is to work in massages with Cynthia in the near future. This location is very lucky to have her! read more

I would give this place 0 stars if possible. I have been a member since 2010. Allow me to say that I have never been to this location. My home location was Bethesda. Once the Bethesda location closed and my membership was transferred to Tenleytown, I have had nothing but problems. Please keep in mind that I have never been to this location. I moved to California in 2019 before the pandemic and had great experiences with the massage envy locations here. After the pandemic is when my trouble started with the Tenleytown location. To summarize, the issues I have had involve: the imporoper use of a credit card, failure to transfer my membership to any other location, and loss of credits. One would think that the word "massage" would be synonymous with relaxation and calm. However, at this location, it means a headache for life. If you do not have a membership, please don't start. Go to Hand and Stone or anywhere else it is not worth the constant pain. Run as fast as you can away from this location. I am begging every consumer in the area not to deal with these people. read more

I've been a member of Massage Envy for a very long time. Somewhere around 4 years in the DMV area and even more time when I lived in a different part of the country. Over the last year the customer service and communication at this location has gone down. I will be cancelling my membership because I have not been satisfied overall and want to find a business that is top tier. I gave 2 stars because the esthetician Diane is awesome. Today's incident which resulted in me making this decision is as follows: I got a call 45 min before my massage was scheduled that my go-to masseuse Isabelle was no longer employed as of a month ago so they did not have someone to do my massage even though I had an appointment. Mind you this appointment was booked WELL in advanced because appointments are very hard to come by. They offered to reschedule which would be a few weeks from now given availability. I found the fact that I was being contacted Day of regarding this to be absurd especially when I was in 2 weeks ago for a different service. They had ample time to communicate this to me and resolve the issue. I am someone who gets massages for health reasons and I take my appointments very seriously because of that. My appointment also had a facial after. I decided to treat myself because I had so many extra points. Given the news of my massage being cancelled I decided to do both a back and face facial. I decided to keep my standing appointment reluctantly and when I went to check out I was informed I had to pay an upgrade fee for my back facial. This was never communicated to me prior that I would be charged anything extra. I had no problem paying because I'm not that type of person but the communication overall with my services today by the acting manager and front desk staff was extremely poor. A place that is supposed to deliver relaxation gives more stress than it's worth. As always the message by Chowei was excellent and helps to relieve some of the pain associated with my age and Cancer. His message is well worth the drive in from Fairfax to receive it. I had a facial and horrible allergic reaction to it. The day after the facial my skin was red and bumpy. Two days later I'm at the emergency room because my face and eyes are swollen. I moved away and tried to cancel before renewal several times. all attempts were ignored and the contract expiration came and the next month I saw another charge. I was a member at Tenley Town Massage Envy before COVID. Having called 4 times and getting no return call didn't make me a happy customer just this past week. I find them rude, not accommodating at all. Just now, the person who answered the phone hung up on me. I called back just now and whoever hung up on me wouldn't answer the phone so I assume she knew it was me from the number. Prior to COVID, the manager was so helpful. I don't find the same customer service now. And the best massage therapists seem to be gone. I agree with Jessica W that the customer service has gone down. I had an amazing massage here. Booking was easy and my masseuse was SO great and sweet. The reason I took off two stars however was because my boyfriend was in town for the weekend (we are long distance) and we wanted a couples massage as a late valentine's date activity. We booked in advance however when we came we were told that another Masseuse accidentally took the only couple massage room for a single client because she didn't know. They entered the room 5 minutes before we got there and I thought it was kind of ridiculous they said they couldn't get her to move to a different room because it was against policy and that they couldn't even knock on the door? I'm not sure if that's a thing but it got worse. While we were deciding on what to do with one of the staff, another girl came in saying that we better decide soon because our time was going down! I was kind of shocked at the customer service and that she would say such a thing because technically the timer shouldn't even count down until you're in the room and the massage starts which is exactly when my masseuse started my timer when in the end we decided to have separate massages. Then in the end they said to make up for the miscommunication they would give us a free enhancement but afterwards I found out you get a free enhancement if you check in on yelp anyways...so that really wasn't an apologetic offer if it could have been free anyways. My boyfriend was pretty upset because we planned this for so long and I thought the whole thing was not handled that professionally or appropriately In terms of the massage itself though it was amazing. Everything was very clean and the facility was really nice. I might return again but what would hold me back is the way they handled the situation in the beginning. They never have availability for 60 minute sessions, which is what the yearly subscription offers clients. They then try and make you upgrade to a 90 minute session for additional money or downgrade to a 30 minute session, which in effect saves them money. It is less than ideal, and once you sign up for the year membership and find out about their business practices, you cannot cancel. read more

My rating is not for the massage itself. Orlando was great the one time I used the service. My issue is the Poor customer service, unreturned phone calls and billing issues. Due to the circumstances we are in today, I am not comfortable coming in for services. I don't believe that I should pay for a monthly service I am not using. However, I'm being told there is no way out of the membership and I can only freeze my account for medical reasons unless I'm being charged a monthly fee still. Poor accommodations made for the customer without some sort of cost benefit to the company. Made an appointment months in advance for a couples massage. Even called and let them know I'll be arriving in 15 minutes before the appointment the day of. Got there on time with my girlfriend and then they say that the only couples room which was booked for us was just randomly taken by someone else only a few minutes ago without a reservation. And that it would be at least an hour until they're done.They even rushed and said that we would have to split up immediately for our massage and that if we waited "our time would be counting down". The "compensation" was a free "enhancement" for the oil, which is free if you checked in on Yelp anyway. The staff who took our room wasn't even reprimanded. So those who plan to come here just beware that your appointments and reservations can completely change or be canceled for no reason. read more

Molly is the best. I've never found a masseuse I would consider booking regularly until her. Dianne is also the must-try facialist. These ladies are AMAZING and definitely 5 Stars! The reason for the 3 Stars is that I've been coming to this location since they opened and a month or so ago they said they'd have to start charging me $10 extra because the location where I bought my membership was cheaper than their membership. I made an appointment with this location as a gift for a friend and she received very poor service. There were no accommodations made in spite of a time conflict that occurred out of her control, and charges were still applied despite the fact that the service was rescheduled. Additionally, the staff engaged with her in a manner that was quite rude. The staff made no effort to be accommodating and spoke with me in a rude manner as well. This location cancels on me at least every other massage scheduled. It did not used to be that way. When I call them back to reschedule, no one answers for returns the messages left for over 1 wk!!! I have to call over and over to even reschedule for when they cancel on me!!! I used to get massages every 2 wks because I have stressful job but now I only end up getting them every 6 wks-8wks because of them cancelling on me! I have gotten several massages here, and they have all been tremendously helpful and incredibly relaxing. I have had different masseuses because I book last minute most of the time. The ones that I have had were all very good at getting the knots in my upper back and making the experience therapeutic. A tip is that you can book online through the massage envy portal or from calling. I find that booking online is useful for me, and I am able to see appointments for the next day if that is when I would like to go. I'm really glad massage envy added this feature. read more

I've had better experiences. To start, the booking was awesome. Quick and easy-- with this location being able to fit two of us in at the same time with 24 hours request. For people complaining they can't book, try an old fashioned phone call. We got a massage booked for our desired time the next day and arrived moments before. When we got to the location, the front desk was CROWDED with staff. One young woman pushed through and escorted us to a room, where she never made eye contact, just banged away at some ipads until it was determined they were broken. She departed and returned with paper and pens and asked us to complete a medical survey. This part always cracks me up-- while I understand some of this pertains to the massage, plenty of this does not at all and is simply intrusive. Additionally, no one EVER asks about anything you write on these forms. Anyhow, forms completed. We were led to the room, met our therapists (Molly and Brenda) and instructed how to settle in to the bed. Both women were very welcoming and friendly. Brenda was my therapist so I'll talk about her first. She was lovely, very friendly, communicative without being conversational (which is perfect, I love to zone out during this self time). The massage was pretty good, the appropriate pressure and my back definitely felt better when we were done. But the massage was kind of disjointed-- a foot massage, then an arm, then some neck, then back to legs. There was no flow and I didn't ever know what to expect next. My SO reported Molly was "amazing!". He says her pressure was perfect, her flow was ideal and he definitely left feeling amazing. When the massages were complete, (which was 40 minutes of hands on time, not 50), the women told us to "relax a few and we'll meet you outside". Less than 5 minutes later, they were knocking on the doors. When we opened them, still putting on socks and shoes, then came in. Molly was talking and asking questions, Brenda started cleaning the room. Pulling the linens, throwing things away, really rushing us out. I know she was sick (as the coughing fit pauses during the massage indicated) and probably wanted to get home, but it was just a rushed ending to what was supposed to be a relaxing experience. Checking out, we got the standard Massage Envy "be a member!" spiel, and when we said no thanks, the instant attitude was noticeable. This was good for it's purpose, which was last minute relaxation, but could've been better on numerous levels. We likely won't be back. read more

He applied perfect pressure and hit all the problematic areas (neck, shoulders, lower back, IT band). It's hard to find a good massage therapist and I was lucky to get Antoine. I've been a ME member for many years, starting in Rockville. I then went to the Bethesda location for a long time but now Tenleytown is my go to location. It's near my home and work, I can park easily on the street and the staff is excellent. The front desk attendanrs are polite and efficient. Stephanie (Breezy) is a fantastic massage therapist - she adapts the treatment based on my needs that day, uses appropriate pressure and is a nice person. Lachelle, the esthetician, is also fantastic. She changes up my monthly treatments based on how my skin is doing. I have seen a distinct improvement to the texture and smoothness of my skin and have purchased a few products that are helping manage the ravages of middle-age (wrinkles, age spots). She too is just a lovely person. I am completely satisfied and heartily recommend the team. read more

The Tenleytown location has perhaps given me the best overall experience of any that I have been to. The manager is very accommodating and the staff are excellent. I've been going to Tenleytown ME for several months, and I've had sessions with several different massage therapists. All of them have been good. Most recently, I've had Orlando who is absolutely fantastic. Perfect pressure, friendly and professional. I took 1 star off for the front desk- they're very friendly but have made several mistakes - entered my phone number wrong initially when I joined, so they weren't able to find me in the system. They also can't connect my online account (which I created with my phone number, during the time that they had the incorrect phone number on my account) to my membership, so I can't book online - I have to call or go in person - i occasionally get 2 text message reminders, one addressed to me and one addressed to someone else- did they put my phone number on someone else's account? - Once while scheduling over the phone, they gave me two options. I forget the exact times, but it was something like 5pm or 7pm. I said "definitely not 7pm, I have plans. Let's go for 5pm". When I showed up at 5pm, they said I was scheduled for 7pm and it was too late to cancel without paying a fee. Overall, small issues but they keep happening, although it does seem to be getting better. I have gone back several times since they reopened during COVID and I feel very safe. Masks are required, employees are wearing masks (and correctly!) and there is hand sanitizer readily available. Overall, I highly recommend this ME location! read more

You put in a request for your selected appointment time and then they call you back and say, we don't have anything available at that time, how about several days later, several hours away from time you requested.
