I had an incredible massage with Asia at Massage Envy in Clarendon. I tend to hold a lot of tension, and during deep tissue massages I sometimes tense up even more when too much pressure is applied, which can defeat the whole purpose. Asia's approach was completely different. She combined deep tissue work with stretching and movement that reminded me of Thai massage, positioning my body in ways that allowed her to reach and release the muscles that needed attention without having to dig in too aggressively. I was actually able to relax while still getting the deep work I needed. This was, by far, the best massage I've ever had. Avoid at All Costs! What a terrible business practice. Please don't make the mistake I did by signing up for a massage membership that locks you in for a year. I was canceled on last minute by a practitioner. Months went by where I avoided going altogether. When I tried to cancel, Massage Envy pointed to the fine print in their contract, forcing me to keep paying for the full year. At the end of my contract, I missed canceling by just a couple of days--and they insisted I must pay for an additional month. I tried to at least use up my accumulated sessions, but when I scheduled another massage, I was literally no-showed by the practitioner while I sat in the lobby. No call, no explanation. When I requested a refund for all the months I couldn't use, I was brushed off. The manager told me the general manager would have to call me--yet after repeated calls to reach Nadia or Keith, no one has ever followed up. This is simply inexcusable customer service. The combination of rigid contracts, unreliable practitioners, and unresponsive management makes this place one to avoid at all costs. read more

I received a gift card for massage envy nearly 4 year ago and decided to make a reservation for a massage - unfortunately, I left that gift card at home lol. Street parking for like $1.75 an hour, or there is a garage directly next door I arrived ON time for my appointment. Filled out a quick questionnaire on an ipad and was seen by my masseuse about 5 minutes later The masseuse looked over my details and confirmed the type of service I wanted My room was next to a noisy business. It was so loud, I thought it was construction next door. The lady at the desk said it's a smoothie place. This made for an unpleasant experience, because all I could hear was the clanging and banging from next door Massage was for whole hour. I was expecting a warm towel or something over my eyes when I turned over but nothing When my masseuse left the room for me to get dressed, she did warn me the lights were on but Whew they were super bright! hurt my eyes She handed me a cup of water when I left the room SInce I was new, I had an introductory price of $80 for the hour long massage. Typically, they are $130 I am not even sure I would attempt to even use the giftcard due to this experience. I also don't think the massage is worth it at $130 read more

I have no issue with the quality of the services - the practitioners I have worked with are great. The big problem is that I am trapped in a membership I can neither use fully nor get out of without forfeiting a lot of massage credits I have already paid for. While the membership program is national, this location lacks sufficient availability to be able to use it properly. A year+ ago I signed up at this location for Massage Envy's monthly membership, which is a good deal - $70/month (later increased to $80) with an included 60-minute massage every month plus a big discount on any other services. Credits roll over month to month if you don't use your free massage one month, you can transfer your massage credit to someone else for $10, and if you have credits built up you can apply them to 2 90-minute massages instead of 3 60-minute massages, etc. I was mostly happy with the membership except for the fact that I would have to book really far in advance because of limited appointment availability, especially for firm or deep tissue massage. Like, seriously, you have to book 1 to 2 months in advance if you want a night or weekend appointment. I don't use massages for relaxation but for managing pain, tightness and muscle mobility issues, and I need deep tissue massage for that purpose. For the therapy to make a difference, it has to be done regularly. I also was hoping to have the option to schedule last minute appointments in the event that pain flares up, which it often does. This is simply not an option at this location, when it is much easier to get short-notice appointments in other areas. Then I got COVID. So I skipped a few months while I was still coughing, and a bunch of my massage credits rolled over. When I came back to try to claim them, it was impossible to get appointments. At that point, I was pretty frustrated, so I asked to cancel my membership, thinking I would maybe restart later when I was out of credits, but also thinking of going somewhere else with more short term availability. They told me that to cancel I would have to use all my remaining credits within 60 days. Great, except that there weren't enough appointments on nights and weekends with firm or deep tissue therapists within 60 days to use them all in a way that didn't involve having them all in the same week or something silly like that. I complained, and a manager wasn't available, so I was told a manager would reach out to me. A manager later reached out via e-mail offering to give me 120 days to use up my credits. In order to do so, I had to print out paperwork, sign it, scan it, and e-mail it back. Except I don't have a printer or a scanner. So at that point I decided to ask them to print the paperwork at my next in-person appointment. Given the lack of appointment availability at this location, however, even 120 days didn't seem like a guaranteed way to avoid giving up my credits. When I came in for my appointment I was told I had the option to go on a freeze plan, which is $20/month just to keep my credits and can only go for 6 months. I wouldn't continue to accrue credits. Why wasn't I told this in the first place? I was anoyed that I would have to pay them $20/month for the right to use credits I had already paid for, and which I had only been unable to use up to that point because their appointment availability is so horrible, but I agreed to do it. I waited several days for a manager to e-mail me and, again, they wanted me to print out paperwork, sign it, scan it and send it in. I wrote back saying that this was terrible customer service and they should have the option to fill out paperwork in person and reiterating my disappointment with their availability. I never received a response. At my next in-person appointment I asked if they could have me fill out paperwork there for the freeze plan, which they did. Again, why wasn't that done in the first place? I booked a few more appointments weeks in advance and went about my business. Then, in Florida with my mom, I tried to use up some of my remaining credits by booking two massages for us at a ME location there. They had plenty of availability, but when they went to book and apply my credits they told me my account was frozen and I couldn't use them. What? I wondered if the freeze meant I was limited to using my credits at one location. So then I came back to the ME in Clarendon at my next booked appointment and, after that, tried to book again at the front desk and she couldn't book another appointment either. She dug around in the computer for a few minutes and realized that some kind of mistake had been made and I was entered into the system under the wrong kind of freeze. Great, so the whole Florida thing was for nothing. This has been a complete pain in my butt. The membership could be a great deal but this location is super understaffed and has awful customer service that really make it way more trouble than it's worth. read more

I was looking for a last minute appt to accommodate my hectic schedule. I just moved from Texas due to military. Due to my schedule I have been unable to utilize the services. I have 3 credits on my account. When I signed up in Texas I was told it would be 70.00 per month. When I called to book the appt firstly the receptionist was very rude and snarky. She advised I would have to pay 15.00 in addition due to the transfer of a new unit, I told her I have 3 credits on my account 180 minutes total. I would still have to come out of pocket even though it can be deducted from my account? She said yes. I was going to proceed with the appt because I have been in soo much body pain. I then asked about parking to see the challenges ahead of time. She told me they had street parking and a garage across the street. She then said in a very nasty tone and we do not do parking validation. I told her, what do yall do? I did not appreciate the nasty tone she had and did not feel comfortable having my services at this location. I booked a massage in the morning around 11:00 a.m. for later in the day and was really looking forward to trying Massage Envy for the first time because I was feeling achy and tense in my body. After getting off a work call around 3:30 p.m., I began vomiting about 15-minutes later. I called around 4:00 p.m. to say I was really not feeling well and needed to cancel in case I have the flu. The receptionist said if someone doesn't book the slot for 7:30 p.m. today, important note: apparently they can't tell you until after the appointment time if someone is able to book the slot -- I am responsible for half the price of the session. She also then kindly reminded me it was part of the online payment form I completed. This is incredibly disappointing and even more so that staff are put in an uncomfortable position if a client comes in sick (in my case, vomiting). I sent a message to management and will also be contesting the charge with my credit card company because of how ridiculous this is. Definitely will never book a service at any Massage Envy! Larissa is the best massage therapist in the area. I've been getting massages for the past 6 years and have tried 3 different Massage Envy locations as well as numerous spas, and Larissa is the best. She can truly do deep tissue, which is my favorite, and I've found hit or miss results when I request it. I've been going to Larissa for 1 year now, and couldn't be happier. She's a wonderful massage therapist and also a wonderful person in general. She truly cares about her clients and their well-being. I can't really say enough good things. I have been a member at Massage Envy for over 10 years and my experience at this location the other week has me wondering if I am going to cancel my membership. I went for my massage and told the therapist my leg was bothering me. She asked me if it was ok if she used this percussive therapy gun on my leg. I said yes and she used it during the massage. I go to check out after and I am informed this tool was an up-charge. The therapist never informed me and I didn't see this service listed as an uncharge in the lobby. Never before has a therapist tried to get me to add an uncharge service without telling me. I have been asked if they could use hot towels in the past and never been charged more. It never occurred to me this could be an extra cost. I would have said no (and I didn't even like the service). The woman at the front desk told me I just should have known I would have to pay more. Although she admitted that this therapist regularly adds uncharge services to clients and informed me next time to tell her I do not want anything extra. The woman at the front desk was very rude constantly kept telling me I just "should have known." I feel like the uncharge was a scam and I was forced to pay for something I didn't want. Be careful of the therapist adding services if you go to this location. It should be made abundantly clear if I will have to pay up for a service not included in my membership. read more

I received a chemical peel for the first time at the Clarendon location of ME last weekend. After a brief consultation with their esthetician, she started the process which was completely pain-free. While she was applying the products, she explained that my face would peel a little bit but I shouldn't expect an intense peeling after the first chemical peel. I was advised to come back for a couple more sessions if I wanted to see clear results. The whole thing took about 30 minutes and she gave me a small box with some cosmetic products to use for the next few days. Now it has been 5 days and I applied all the products as recommended but haven't seen any peeling whatsoever. My face just feels very dry but didn't peel at all so I kind of feel like I wasted my time and money. (I am a ME member and the chemical peeling was worth two credits which is equivalent to $140, excluding tip). If I had peeled even a little bit as I was told, I'd consider going back for a second session but now I'm just hesitant to use any of my future credits for ME's skin care services. read more

My boyfriend got me a 90 minute massage here for Christmas. I came early to complete all the paperwork, my appointment at 10AM. I sat in a room with a few others and waited for the tech to come get me - everyone else was called and I was still sitting there by 10:05. I saw my tech come in late, come to get me and when she took me back she still had to set up the room and then leave so I could lay on the table and get settled. By the time we were starting, I asked for the time and it was 10:12. I asked her if the time started from when the actual massage started or if it was starting from 10AM. She said the 90 minutes started at 10AM, and it's actually only 80 minutes because of 10 minutes for dressing. Not my fault she was late, but ok. The actual massage was very good, but she said she was done and when I checked the time and got dressed it was 11:16. So she started late, ended early, which left me with 64 minutes of hands on time after paying for a 90 minute massage plus 2 add ons. The actual massage was good which is why I'm giving it 3 stars, but I wouldn't go back considering I didn't get what was paid for. read more

This is a very convenient location if you live in Arlington. Compared to other locations I have been to, it is on the smaller side which makes it hard to get an appointment with a specific therapist. It is clean and well kept though. The waiting area is nice and has water and tea and sometimes mints, but other locations I have been to really go above and beyond in their waiting rooms (several types of tea, lotions, warm towels, etc.) that aren't at this location. Most of the therapists I have been to are excellent -- highly recommend Carl and Dante. Unfortunately, there is a $10 up charge each time I go because my membership is from a less expensive location in my home town, but all in all a good spot. read more

Management here does not respect or care about customers. They lacked music for an entire weekend and refused to do anything moe than offer a 10$ enhancement. The ambiance was AWKWARD and I just heard myself and my therapist breathing and snuggling the entire hour. They refused a re-do. The front desk won't look you in the eye or greet you in friendly manner anymore. They used to have friendly people but something has cha fed in the last few months. First in Arizona and then in Virginia. I created a membership in Fairfax, VA and loved the professional attention. When I moved to the Clarendon location in Arlington, I was plagued with problems. When I noticed that I had been booked without my permission for a 90 minute session, when my membership was only for 60 minute sessions, I asked to speak with the manager. She said it was my fault and even though I was a loyal client for over 10 years I could get lost. I called the Fairfax franchise where I had originally signed up and they profusely apologized for Arlington and offered to cancel my membership and give me a complimentary service to compensate. There isn't much that I can say that would be that much different from other Massage Envy that I have visited because they sort of have a footprint that is fairly common. So since I already like their color scheme their Furniture their quiet room their entryway the way that they greet people at the front door all that's left for me to do is to critique my masseuse. At the front I was greeted bye Shane where's a great personality and took care of booking my visit there from California. When I got in and started my massage my masseuse was very attentive ask me all the questions that would reflect what my needs were for that day we communicated very well, and Larissa is a consummate professional which I have come to find as a standard in Massage Envy anywhere you go. She has a pleasant personality and her massage technique was very very good. Good enough that I will return next week and have the part two to finish the areas that she didn't work on. read more

She finds every single kink and does not quit until it's gone. Some massage therapist just do this blanketed one relaxing massage where they spend equal time on every body part which is great if you like that. Not if you have some real back kinks and you want them gone. Kisha is amazing. I love her. And I've been going to her for over a year. Disappointed. Booked a last minute appointment based on a co-workers referral. 2 hours later realized I wasn't getting of work in time so called to see if I could push it back an hour. They didn't have that time available which is understandable so I cancelled. Person on the phone told me I would be charged the full first time fee of $60 even though the email confirmation I received said a day of cancellation would be 50% of the full fee. I understand the need for a cancellation fee however it should be consistent with what you said. Probably will not rebook there based on that As a follow up the business manager reached out to me and was very accommodating. After coming out of my session, I was notified that I had just one half of a session left on my account--which was not the crux of the issue, but rather a start to a very disappointing exchange.  After inquiring about a historical balance, I was informed that I had missed a session on the previous day (Saturday) and was charged a credit for a session as was considered a "no show".  This was a complete surprise to me as I had clearly not planned on on scheduling facial sessions on both the Saturday and Sunday, and had never received a notification for the Saturday session.  After checking my email, and texts, there were not any notifications that this appointment was scheduled.  One of the staff also said that my phone number was not on file and no email was sent to me for confirmation. I explained to Dene, that there must be a mistake, at which she claimed that it most certainly was my mistake.  Even after knowing that I had not received any notification of this appointment, Dene was clearly more interested in trying to prove me wrong in what she perceived as my mistake even without any rationale.  I have never encountered a person with such a downright lack of customer service-- lacking even one ounce of effort of trying to work with the customer to resolve the situation.  Dene clearly did not give the impression of having the customer interest at heart and seemed to not want to be bothered by the situation.  When I found out she was in a managerial position, I was even more horrified! read more

This place is conveniently located but it stressed me out so much that it counteracted the benefits of massage. The customer service reps don't know what they're doing. They've told me I wasn't in the system even though I received a confirmation call from them the day before. They put me under the wrong name once and insisted I had a husband with my last name who I must have put the appointment under (not true). At one point I was going in every week and the same girl checked me in. She never remembered me and it got embarrassing after a while that she would ask me the same questions every time about where I'm from and tell me that she's from there too, etc. (it would be different if I wasn't going in every week!) I had about 10 great massages from various therapists here, which is why I continued to go back, but the one time I complained (because the massage was feather light and lacking technique and the therapist got mad when I asked her to use more pressure) the girl at the front desk told me that it must be me because everyone likes that therapist. I was a new patient that was supposed to have a facial with Jin. I am prescribed Tretinion by my dermatologist that I use every other night. I had also used self tanner and anti wrinkle patches together the night before for the first time and it messed up by skin tone. When Jin was consulting me, she was very judgmental about the products that I use. She refused to do the facial because I had used tretinion within a week even though I never received a previous notice from her or massage envy saying not to do so. She was also very judgmental about my use of wrinkle patches. She asked me twice how old I was. I am 24 years old. This experience was uncomfortable. It is no one else's business why I decide to use wrinkle patches or not. As a new customer, I would have expected Massage Envy to email me preparation instructions. I've been using tretinion and prescriptions retinoids for years and have gotten facials at doctors offices and with various aestheticians, so being turned away was shocking and unsettling. I would not recommend this place especially for young people given the agism. read more

I love massages, so if course eventually I had to try out Massage Envy. I originally went to a location in Orlando, FL just before a cruise and it was good so when I got home I decided not only to get a massage, but join the membership. FYI - If you get massages every now and then the membership might not be for you, but if you get massages at least once a month or more like me, it's a pretty good deal. I average about 2/3 times a month for the last 4 months. Overall, I like this location. Close to metro with fairly okay parking if you decide to drive. The only issue I have is whatever aroma they have in the lobby area. I know everyone's olfactory senses are different so what smells good to them smells like a dumpster to me. But it's just the lobby area. The serenity quiet waiting room is fine as is every other room here. The Massage - I've had 3 different technicians here and all were good. My favorite thus far is Crystal. Not only good technique, but a lovely demeanor. She's also one of the few that can give a really good deep tissue massage if that's what you need. The Facial - I've had two facials with Meg. Both pretty good. She like Crystal had a wonderful demeanor. She also gave me some great skin advice that has worked wonders. They use and sell Murad products (which are top of the line) at Massage Envy so they push them on you a bit, but not in a way that seems obnoxious. I actually love the products suggested but I went to Amazon.com to buy them for a better price. All and all I really like this place. I've seen some other reviews complain about Massage Envy. Let me address some of them. Cancellation Policy - If you are a no show they do charge you for the session anyway, or if you cancel in less than 24hours you get charged 1/2 the cost. They make their cancellation policy very clear. So no complaining because you think it's unfair. It's fairly normal spa business practice. Second, the front desk might be the only issue here. Everyone is friendly, but sometimes seem frazzled. Which is weird because there are usually a bunch of people up front. Maybe that the issue. Too many cooks in the kitchen so things aren't running as smooth as they should. If I were running this place I would totally change how receptionist handle their job/responsibilities and prep for clients. Make it simpler for staff and clients. read more

I started going here for massages while marathon training and have seen a number of their massage therapists now. Obviously I'd prefer to go to a higher end massage salon, but the price is right, so... :) I've had mixed experiences here (my main complaint is some of my massages starting late), but overall my impression has been good. I highly recommend Urna - not only does she give an amazing massage, but she's also very timely and professional, which some of the other massage therapists at this location are not. I think there is scam system here - was charged twice on my credit card after being assured that one charge would be credited (it was explained to me to be a result of charging the 'wrong' customer's account in their internal system). A week later all charges have been posted to my credit card so I've been effectively charged for two services. I've had to resort to asking my credit card company to dispute one of the charges, which they gladly did. A simple massage that was supposed to be relaxing has turned into work for me with multiple follow-up phone calls. Argh...definitely not signing up for their package which I went in fully willing to consider. This unfortunate 1 star review comes today after a service on Sunday and fraudulent charges on my card. I added $50 in gratuity to my card on file. Signed the receipt for that. Checked my bank Monday, and realized there was not only a $50 charge, but also $100 charge and $131. Called the store, and no manager available. The front desk staff available was unable to tell me what the mystery charges were for. "They weren't listed in my account and they couldn't find them." I was assured that a manager would call me today. I waited until 5pm today, and of course - no call. I called the front desk, and manager was conveniently in a meeting and unable to talk. Such a shame that I've had to dispute the charges with my bank and cancel my membership. Any amount of unauthorized charges is unacceptable...but 2 different charges totaling $231 is insane. read more

The ME chain is so lucky to have her, she should honestly be at a high end spa in DC, she's that great! (But obviously I'm thrilled she's at ME!!) I've had multiple facials with her, the microdermabrasion, and a chemical peel. Jin knows what she's doing and will tell you exactly what you need to know about your skin, what options work best, etc. Book a 90m facial with her, it'll be so relaxing and amazing for your skin!! read more

I've been a massage envy member for about 1 year. I'm not a huge fan of their brand, but this particular ME is pretty nice. I'd rate it a strong 3. The front staff are friendly and prompt. When I call, they tend to be patient and helpful. I won't say they do the best job of matching you with a good masseuse, but they can steer you in the right direction. The facilities are clean and cozy. They have a "tranquility room" that you hang in before your massage. It's comfortable. They play soothing music and the lights are dim. It's pretty basic. Nothing special. My massage therapists have been pretty good. I really like Tempest. She is relatively green, but she does an excellent job. You can tell immediately that she is kind. She seems to focus on bringing her clients positive energy. I found her very pleasant, and her massage skills were strong. I'd highly recommend her. So for massage envy locations, this one is pretty good. It's worth checking out. read more

I became a member of Massage Envy in order to start a skincare regimen for my wedding. I got facials from Tiffany and she is the absolute sweetest person. She is patient and courteous. As Shae S. said, "Tiffany has the softest, gentlest touch, and the most soothing voice to go with it...She did some extractions and it was like little tickling feathers gently dancing on my nose." I completely agree. Initially I figured I would relax and meditate quietly, but you can't help but chat with her, she's great to talk to, I felt so at ease with her. Unfortunately, after I got married in the beginning of September, I decided to cancel my membership. I have gotten very busy and the location is busy too, that made it hard to book appointments. Also the cost of $70 a month started to burn a hole in my wallet. But their service is fantastic and if you can afford the monthly membership payments - by all means do it! I cannot say enough good things about the massage therapists here. I have probably had 50 massages over the years and KaSandra is hands down the best massage therapist I've ever seen. If I ever have a windfall of money I would seriously go back and retroactively tip her an extra $100 for every session - she's that good. Mike T is also really great, especially if you're looking for deep tissue to work out back pain. I have mixed feelings about the membership and customer service like a few other posters, but I don't think that should get in the way of what you're actually going to Massage Envy to accomplish. Are you going to get a phenomenal massage? Yes. Are you willing to pay for that? Yes. Sometimes it's worth a little bit of extra hassle at the front desk to get an amazing luxurious experience for one of the more affordable prices in the Northern VA area. Barbara is the best massage therapist ever! I am so glad I found a therapist who listens, uses the right pressure, etc. If you're looking for serenity and all of the show, then this place is not for you. All it does is provide a great massage in a nice atmosphere. I normally would not sign up for one of these membership places but because I'm under a lot of stress and Barbara is so good, I had to do it. read more

So the first time I went to Envy I was somewhat disappointed with my massage (not sure who my therapist was). Someone mentioned the lotion usage and I would agree - not ideal. My 2nd time around I got scheduled with Crystal and OMG... Awesome!!! I also requested oil instead of lotion and they obliged with no issues! Crystal is super friendly and has great technique. Don't let her tall, thin frame full you, she has the techniques and power to give a really good deep-tissue massage. Generally speaking Envy has great hours of operations making it easy to catch a massage after hours. High marks for Crystal!!! read more
