BEWARE! This is my experience at this Massage Envy location and I want to document what I believe are unethical and unacceptable business practices. I have been a Massage Envy member for over two years. During that time, the quality of service at this location has deteriorated to the point where I will never return not only to this location, but to any Massage Envy franchise. The issues include: Tips being withheld or "taken" from therapists, Appointments being canceled by the location with little to no notice, Refusal to refund prepaid services when cancellations are initiated by the business, Chronic mismanagement, resulting in nearly all competent therapists leaving As a customer, it is unacceptable to prepay for services, have the business cancel on me, and then be told I cannot receive a refund. That is not only poor customer service, it borders on deceptive business practices. The environment at this location is chaotic and poorly run, and it is obvious why the best therapists have quit. The experience has gone from disappointing to outright infuriating. I am requesting: A full refund for any prepaid services that were canceled by the location. Documentation of how Massage Envy addresses reports of tip theft and employee mistreatment. Confirmation that this complaint has been escalated to appropriate management. It is honestly shocking that this location is still operating. I expect a response and resolution. BUT I doubt I will. read more

I Schedule a facial at 10:15, at 10:45 I was at the front desk finished with my facial. She skipped several steps according to the description on the websit. I get massages regularly! When I joined 2 years ago it was wonderful. Hot towels on feet after the message to clean off the lotion before putting on shoes, flip flops. A towel over eyes for adding relaxation and also to guard your noise from garlic breath of the therapist above your face. Yes! It was gross. It's a small touch that many massage places offer, and it would have made the overall experience more comfortable and complete. read more

Think long and hard before you enroll in the membership program offered by Massage Envy. It's akin to indentured servitude. I have been a member for many years and during Covid and subsequently I have not been able to utilize my credits as quickly as they accumulated. I am now in the position of having a large number of credits that in all likelihood will never be able to work down. None of the options available to me under the membership program are particularly appealing. I can just cancel my membership and forfeit all the credits in my account worth well in excess of $1,000. I can continue my membership and try to utilize the credits in my account faster than I earn new ones which is highly unlikely. ME has offered no other relief such as suspending the accumulation of new credits until I have worked down my existing credits. The membership program in my case is like a roach motel. What goes in never comes out!! read more

Decent massage. However, I arrived exactly at my appointment time, took 2 mins to sign a waiver, was then told the massage is only 50 mins (confirmed by the fine print on the website after the fact. So, fine just be aware they allocate 5mins prior and after for "consultation" - which in my experience essentially equates to a max of two mins total) My spidey senses were activated in the moment so I actually timed the massage and it came to only 45 mins total. I let them know this when checking out but they said because I had to sign the intake/waiver form this time was taken from my massage. I let them know there was no mention of getting there early to complete this. I also received a text confirmation in advance that had no mention of needing to arrive early. Additionally, I found it strange that during the "consultation" that the masseuse never asked about pressure, nor was this asked in the intake form. Very strange... and in all my massage experiences this is not a common practice from all angles. read more

Booked in the online portal and wanted a firm massage. Got a call an hour before my appointment saying they were double booked and could only do an hour. I said I'd rather reschedule- suddenly they're not double booked anymore. Went in and the massage therapist says "I only do light to medium"... Le Sigh. I seriously just paid 150 dollars to have lotion rubbed on me for 90 minutes. Was a mediocre massage, a mediocre experience and when checking out I got the hard close for a membership. Iliana or something sounding similar, very rude and tasteless. I had to cancel last minute to take my dog to the emergency vet. I asked if it would be possible to wave the 50% charge for having to reschedule considering the circumstances - which for the record I pulled something in my back and needed this massage, but my dog possibly having a broken back took priority . I completely understand any business with a strict cancellation policy so it didn't bother me a whole lot when she stated that. HOWEVER, professionalism and class would have made her mouth stop after that. Instead, Iliana decided to be condescending and tacky while she dragged out how the "staff needs to still make money", "because this is how they make their living, you know so they can live". She repeated this 3-4 times with the same condescending tone. This review is for management of this location. I have been calling for 2 weeks trying to get help with my account. After having an account with them for six years, I had to cancel recently. Shortly after I canceled, I found out I was pregnant. I tried to call and have them transfer my last credit to my husband, since I was denied service because I was pregnant. I called and spoke to the front desk many times and was reassured I would be getting a call later on in the day. However, no one ever contacted me, and now my credit is expiring and I will lose out on the money I paid. As someone who was a loyal client for 6 years, I shouldn't be working this hard to get my last credit transferred. Not only was this a waste of money, but a waste of time. Shame on you for making someone have to struggle this hard to get respect after being a loyal customer for so long. Ask for Phoenix, she's the best! I booked a massage because I was desperate to relieve my severe neck pain since I travel so much by plane. My neck felt so stiff that when I stretch it I hear a pop each time. Told her about my concerns and where exactly it hurts. My girlfriend and I scheduled same day massages after a weekend of rugby. Both of us were a little dinged up from the 3-game tournament we played and needed a massage that would get the kinks out and have us back to 100% While I have had massages in Tucson before, I have never been to Massage Envy but decided to give it a try after my dad bought me a gift card. My girlfriend has never had a massage before so it was a totally new experience for her and she loved it. The timing was very convenient we chose to go after our practice and so our appointment was at 9pm. Since we have such busy schedules, I was surprised we were able to find something right away with masseuses who could do a firm pressure sports massage for both of us. Ani and Sabrina welcomed us when we arrived and took us through the entry paperwork which is very detailed to make sure the massage is tailored to you, they also asked us some more specific questions once we completed the papers. After our massage they also checked us out and helped us sign up for a membership. They rock! We had Zach and Anthony for our masseuses. Both asked us about our daily lives both of which are filled with Crossfit, rugby and working in a group home and while they are all very rewarding activities they can take a toll on the body. We went over areas of pain and what type of pressure we could handle, also being told we could ask them to get firmer or let up whenever during the massage. Upon leaving we both felt like our kinks were worked out and that Zach and Anthony paid close attention to what we asked for during our hour session. I gave myself a 24 hour cooling period before writing this review- I have had excellent massage service from ME for a few years- no complaints about deep tissue work I've had done. My issue is with their relentless push for monthly membership $$$ . I have asthma and my pulmonologist has told me not to take any unnecessary risks as there is significant risk to me if I get COVID. I explained this to ME many months ago and they agreed to freeze my membership. Recently I started getting texts and calls indicating they are unable to process this month's membership and my membership would be cancelled if this was not addressed. We are still in a pandemic and I already have 14-16 hours of accrued services I have not gone in for due to crazy work schedule prior to COVID then COVID concerns. Yesterday I spoke live with Aliana and explained the situation again. She said they had to process 3 months of payments in order to enable my account to be frozen again. I explained this doesn't work for me and I was transferred to another person whom I can't recall her name. I was then told they had to process at least one payment to freeze my account- again- I said this doesn't work - why can't you just freeze the account as it was. They still wanted another payment- so I cancelled membership. (and must forfeit accrued services) In the end, this is about "subscriber fatigue" more than anything else- I'm done signing up for "monthly plans" for services I don't absolutely need on a regular predictable schedule. read more

I have some special circumstances (regarding medical condition) & as such, I spoke with the masseuse "Nani" prior to the massage to identify my concerns. That being said, I found the experience uncomfortable & I believe the masseuse made an effort to accommodate me. That being said, the next day I had multiple bruises on my legs. I stopped by their store the next day (4/11/19) & requested that the receptionist have the masseuse call me between appointments (as I had some questions for her) . . . this did not happen, never heard back from them. Just a quick update. Massage Envy at Swan and Sunrise has made a final offer to allow me the opportunity to pay an additional $140 in order for an opportunity to use the $300 already paid! So generous. Here's the problem. It's a massive headache to schedule appointments and when you are fortunate enough to get one it's anyone's guess as to whether or not your provider will show up. They're badly understaffed and simply can't make it easy. If anything should be easy it's the ability to use prepaid sessions. Will I throw good money after bad? Nope! read more

Was a member here for a year and a half, hit or miss with staff. They seem to go through them like toliet paper. Then I had a incident where my card number had changed, and instead of providing accommodating customer service like someone should to their membership when u said I would bring it prior to my appointment on Sunday (2 days later) they said they would cancel my appointment with out the card and demanded it to be done over the phone during Thanksgiving weekend. I was on a backpacking trip sent a response back but it failed to send. I get back and called to find out they sure enough canceled my appointment, they're booked out weeks typically for a deep tissue (lack of staff). And told me it was policy and that I would have been charged "non member prices" if my appointment continued to stay on the books. I'm sure this is something that could have been worked out. ANYWAY now that we are in 2023, cards automatically update your reoccurring payments, such as massage envy membership. So here we are making a fuss, when it just happens on it own. I told the gal I want my account canceled on Sunday with the gal that canceled my appointment and now have that missing charge they were 2 days from having and won't refund it. Left several messages for her to call me back to cancel and it never got returned. Called about 10 times today before the Illiana answered. Super rude, condescending and I would spend your hard earned money else where. It explains why they can't keep staff. You got immature, catty, girls who have zero people/customer service skills making decisions based on "policy". Shit happens. And if shit happens to you this place will not accommodate it and charge you more money. Then say it's policy not to refund. And a huge stink about not having a card was made over nothing - cuz looky here it does it on it's own! My what advancement we have made in the banking industry. I have been a member at this location for over 5 years and the past few months have made me rethink my membership. First, the massage therapists are very good - no issues there but the front desk is god awful. 1) incredibly difficult to get an appointment. If you call and ask do you have a openings next Tuesday for example you get a "no we are all booked". They never suggest another day and tell you when they have an opening. 2) check in people have no customer service skills. I was waiting for my last massage when a women entered for her appointment. Apparently her therapist called in sick. The front desk person told the customer "we tried to called you but you did not answer your phone!" Scolding the customer and then made no apology or made little effort to reschedule. 3) yesterday when I went to check out I was forced to wait for 10 minutes while one employee was standing in the office and another employee was helping a lady fill out forms. It was obvious this lady who wanted the employee to complete her forms for her was going to be time consuming but she never thought to say excuse let me check out this line of customers who have been waiting, Every muscle that had just been relaxed, tensed back up. I love the massages if you can make past the horrible employees at their front desk. read more

I wrote my previous review halfway through my contract with Massage Envy. I have since then canceled my contract with them as the last 6 months was quite eventful and completely turned me off to being a member with them. I really loved my therapist, don't get me wrong, but it seemed I was always getting phone calls to reschedule because he wasn't working the day we had scheduled or he called in sick. One of the times, I made the mistake of going with another therapist (who will remain unnamed as the manager of this location resolved the issue) who stuck his hands up my shorts during my massage. The manager there (Matthew if I remember correctly?) took my comments very seriously and refunded me my credit. I'm very appreciative of how he handled that situation, he did a fantastic job. From then on, I stuck with my usual therapist despite always being canceled on. Then I got a letter in the mail saying my monthly payment would be increased due to Massage Envy adding more services and re-decorating their establishments. The new and "improved" Massage Envy is honestly an eye sore and all the bright lights and hard edges gave me headaches. With a therapist who could never make it to original sessions and my monthly payment increasing (which it was already bloody expensive to begin with), I decided to cancel once my contract was up. Kind of bummed out, but I know I can go to other places where the massages are cheaper, they don't lock you into a contract, the therapist shows up to the sessions, and the environment is actually relaxing. read more

Ah, Massage Envy. I used to work for a different location in town a number of years ago, so when my wife said we should go get massages, I thought we could find a decent therapist at this location. I requested a therapist who could do myofascial release, as that's what my body needed and they paired me up with someone who they said could do it. Upon arrival, I told my therapist what I wanted and she kindly told me she doesn't do that modality. I asked to be switched to someone who did, so she and a coworker traded clients. After our hour of massage, my wife was far less than satisfied, as her therapist was unresponsive to feedback and didn't relax her muscled at all. I was shorted a good portion of time during my massage, which when I asked the front desk why, they said "Well, that's what happens when you switch therapists." Oh no, you don't blame me for switching therapists when I initially asked for someone who practiced a certain modality and then pair me up with someone who doesn't. I ended up getting my massage heavily discounted, but still spent far too much money there on a far below par experience. Stick to a local place for these services: they cost less than the cost of membership at Envy, pay their employees more, and you get far better service. read more

Ahhhh...who doesn't love a massage? I came here with some coworkers because we won a sales contest at work, and a massage at Massage Envy was part of the prize. I have had numerous massages before and I have learned that not every massage is, well..what you expected. Some are fantastic, some aren't firm enough, perhaps the massage therapist was in a bad mood, some didn't focus enough on your problem areas, and some just plan suck. Well, Massage Envy check-marked every box on my "I approve" list! The massage therapist (they hate being called masseuses, by the way, I learned that from working at Canyon Ranch) was very professional, sweet, and asked me what I needed focus on for my service. The massage was OUTSTANDING. It's usually very difficult for me to relax, as I am a big ball of stress most of the time..but I had no problem relaxing during this treatment. I must admit, this massage was better than some of the treatments I received at Canyon Ranch when I was working there! Massage Envy offers a wellness program for those of you that require and/or want a monthly massage. I believe the monthly dues are $39, which includes 1 massage each month, and any additional massage you recieve is at a discounted price. Best of all, Massage Envy has two convenient Tucson locations, and tons more clinics located across the US. read more

I wanted to love this place since it's close to where I live, but the massage was merely okay. It lacked a certain finesse that I get from Tanisha at Rubs or Kevin at Intricate Touch. My bf had a massage here too and I asked him how it was. "It was okay." I asked if we should book here again. "I'd rather go to Rubs." And the hardsell on the memberships sucks. I feel more like I'm at a used car dealership than at a place of relaxation and wellness. I stopped in today for a 30 minute stretch with 10 minute added rapid tension relief. I had never had a stretch before and I was under the impression that I was going to be getting 40 minutes of total treatment. After being brought back to my room at 3:02PM, I was explained how the stretch and hypervolt worked and then my stretch began. At 3:26PM, when I was paying my bill, I commented that the session seemed short to which I was told the hypervolt add on was included in the 30 minutes and just an extra cost. I was OK with this but still felt that at 24 minutes from being taken back to the room to checking out I was being shorted by 20% of my appointment time. I made multiple comments to the desk staff that this was disappointing and they did little more than look up from their cell phones to validate my complaint or try to rectify the situation. I will not be returning to Massage Envy Tucson-Foothills. I really do like Massage Envy. You get a high quality therapy style massage and facial at a good price. Every time I go I really have a very relaxing session. I have worked in hotels before that had spa and I would put the therapist at Massage Envy up against any 5 star resort massage, at half the price. The thing to remember is a licensed massage therapist has the same license and for the most part the same education no matter what. What you pay for is all the extras and my dropping the extras they save money and pass on the savings to you. read more

I had a WONDERFUL first-time experience at Massage Envy this afternoon. Let me tell you how it went: I booked an appointment yesterday morning using their online appointment setter for the introductory $39 massage price. I received a call back later that day to confirm the details (which I missed, of course). Upon calling them back, I verified the time/day I wanted, as well as other logistics such as male/female preference, problem areas, type of massage needed-- all of the details you indicate on the online appointment setter. At this point, you will need a credit card to hold your appointment (I assume for last-minute cancellation purposes). I arrived 25 minutes early (they ask you to arrive 15 minutes early, but early bird...) to ensure that I had everything filled out and taken care of on my end, before my massage. Upon entering, I was greeted and helped by 1 of the 2 friendly receptionists, who sat down with me and kindly went over the paperwork since it was my first visit. After that was completed, she showed me to a dim waiting room, where I could have a glass of water and relax before my massage. Shortly thereafter (and promptly at my scheduled time), I was then greeted by Danielle, who went over my paperwork which indicated that I was visiting due to pain from stress knots in my back. She was very attentive and spent careful time working on those problem areas. The pressure she used was perfect and there was a high level of both comfort and professionalism in the room. Now, I should mention that when I was paying after my massage, I did have to sit through the whole membership benefits speech, but I was NEVER pressured into buying anything. They were simply doing a critical part of their jobs-- suggestive selling. Overall, I had a great experience at this Massage Envy. I couldn't have asked for anything more, and I walked out of there feeling refreshed, relaxed, less sore/achy, and most importantly, pain-free! PS-- As a librarian, I spent a lot of time researching the pros and cons of visiting this particular chain parlor. I found that about 80% of the complaints are about the memberships, 10% about gift cards, and 10% about the experience itself (NOT at this particular parlor, but with Massage Envy in general). Quite frankly, I feel as though most complaints are due to a lack of customer awareness and knowledge, coupled with laziness and/or stupidity. They called and left a vague message about my online request, then when I called them back, they could not pull up my data, so I had to reiterate everything I said in the online profile. On top of that, they didn't understand my needs or desires since I was 40 minutes early. They schedule the wrong times because they wrote it down wrong compared to what was discussed on the phone. Anyway, got it all straightened out and Caralyn was there to save Massage Envy from my wrath after she felt and attempted to fix my back and neck. I called Massage Envy on Saturday 11/25/17 to schedule a 1 Hour Massage. Massage was scheduled in three hours after my call. After hanging up, I received a call my caller ID did not identify as being from Massage Envy. The caller told me they needed my credit card number in order to reserve my appointment! In 3 hours! I refused and cancelled the appointment. Beware! This is a horrible practice by Massage Envy and very risky based on other reviews I read on internet. If you've never been, you should definitely go. They strive for a professional enviornment and definitely hit it. The front desk employees get massages from the therapists, so if you're looking for pre-screened, informed recommendation, ask the front desk staff. They know what's up and talk to people every day, post-massage about their experience. At this location, Shannon and Theresa are awesome for deep work! If you get more than one massage per month the membership deal is worth it. The facials are nice too. The product they use is Murad, and while it doesn't compel me to buy the product, I like the facial treatment and the hand and arm massages. read more

Pros - + Your masseuse is as good as whatever masseuse you get, which can be very good. + The atmosphere is pleasant, though corporate and sterile. + The comfortable chairs in the lobby might be enough to make you forget that the Massage Envy CEO died while being arrested for trying to murder his elderly parents in a drug fueled rage. Cons - - The massages are expensive, compared to independent massage places - The staff will pressure you to buy a less expensive massage membership that is still a false economy when compared to other massage places, like Rubs (who will also try to sell you a membership, btw). - Corporate BS. I was told I had to have a medium-thick blanket and sheet on top of me because it was "corporate policy" and the massage was done through the blanket not a sheet, even though I had underclothes on and the room was 85 degrees (there was a thermostat in there, so I knew). Not fun. Upshot: This is like Starbucks. If you like it, fine. But you can get just as good or better massage for less money at your local independent masseuse. read more
