The sweet team makes this location. The young ladies are so great, knowledgeable and hardworking. They make it great, every single visit. The company needs to keep their equipment in check. Their massages are fine, but DO NOT go for facials. I treated my daughter to a facial using my membership and was hoping she'd enjoy it since she'd never had one before. She let the technician know that she had sensitive skin but half way through the procedure her face started hurting. She asked if that was normal and the technician said, "yes, it will be spicy". My daughter didn't know any better but when she got home she took a picture and sent it to me. Her face was completely bloody, pretty much all over her face. It was way beyond simply red and took almost two weeks to heal. I contacted the manager who proceeded to send "cut and paste" corporate replies that didn't even fit the context of my complaints. I went to see her personally since it was obvious she wasn't going to address my concerns in an email. To make a long story short, she didn't even investigate with the technician concerning what happened and didn't plan to. She proceeded to blame my daughter for the burns and said that since it wasn't my experience she didn't want to talk to me further, so I told her to contact my daughter to further investigate. I waited a week for her to call her and she never did. I plan to send this complaint to the BBB and massage envy's corporate office, however, I'm pretty sure they will deny culpability. Do not sign up for the monthly membership! If anything happens and you are no longer able to in every month, they will not let you cancel until after a year. I have $1,000 worth of sessions that I can not use because I moved to an area that does not have a ME. When I called to get gift cards for friends and family still living in Williamsburg, I was told by Nia, the front desk staff, that they"do not do that". Nia told me they would be charging me another $79 for this month and then they would deactivate my account. Nia put me on hold many times to confirm this information with her manager. I was skeptical to use this location because of the reviews...but honestly it's very rare that you come across a Massage envy that has an overall score of 4 or more stars. I chose this location after being cancelled by the College Park, MD massage envy a few days before I was due to travel for the holidays. Ugh so annoying. It was pretty easy to make an appointment even tho they were pretty booked up. I booked a couples massage for me and bae and our credits transferred over. We didnt have to pay out of pocket. The facility was clean and is definitely larger than my home massage envy. Not sure if they accommodated us being in one room because it was VA but back in MD they aren't allowing couples massages sharing the same room. So it was a plus to be able to be with bae. I don't have anything negative to say about this place. It was quiet, there was ample amount of parking and we got in and out without any aches or pains. Not a good way to end a vacation to Williamsburg. The whole point of booking a couples session is to be in the same room, and leave at the same time. When we arrived, they acted like we booked two separate sessions and didn't bother to mention it. They sent us both to the waiting room, then someone came to get my sister...and not me. I was irritated because I knew they screwed up and didn't want to say anything. After waiting 10 minutes, I asked the front desk what was going on, and they told me that my therapist was running behind. I also asked them what happened to our couples session, and I got the run around about some other couple getting a massage in the room...then she said that it was not scheduled that way. Okay, I could get over the separate rooms, but at least be on time. My therapist showed up 20 minutes late talking about some other massage threw her day off. I can understand when someone screws up because we are all human, but an apology from the front desk would have been nice...along with some HONESTY. Don't act like you don't know what I am talking about when it is clear that you made a mistake. Insulting a customer's intelligence is not the answer. My massage went 20 minutes over the allotted time because of the late therapist. My sister ended up having to wait for me after her massage was over. This is supposed to be a stress free environment, but it is hard to relax when you are not treated with respect. read more

All in all, you can get a pretty good massage for a very good price here. The sales staff have all seemed pretty friendly and not too pushy, which I've encountered at another Massage Envy in DC. I hadn't planned on it, but eventually gave in and became a member because of the frequency with which I was feeling the need to get a massage. I've had several masseuses work on me there, and all have been relaxing. I will say that most seemed to be trained for a specific routine that seems difficult for them to adjust based on specific places that I've requested that they focus on. Being a high mileage runner, massage work is as much about recovery and injury prevention for me as it is about the relaxation. I finally asked if there were any masseuses who were particularly good with athletes and was referred to Emmanuel. He has done a great job, and unlike some of the other masseuses I have had, he has been able to focus on and address specific areas that have bugged me from running. He incorporates stretches that are beneficial as well. read more

This was my first spa experience with Massage Envy. Upon arrival the staff was very friendly and welcoming, since I made a last minute appointment, I made sure to arrive early to ensure that all forms were signed before my 1pm appointment with Faith, who was also wonderful and gave a wonderful massage. The reason for the 3-star review is due to the lack of timelessness. I arrived a little before 12:30pm for my 1 pm appointment (as my friend had an 12:45 pm appointment). After filling out the necessary forms, we sat in the waiting room to be called in. My friend was called in 8 minutes after the scheduled appointment. And I was called in about 10 minutes after my schedule timing (after going to the front desk to ask about the delay). On the site it was stated that a total of 10 minutes of your session will be used for you to get dressed/undressed, then the remaining 80 minutes will be for the message, based on the session I booked. The actual massage did not start until 1:30, but somehow the massage ended at exactly 2:25pm. This is less than 60 minutes when I paid for a 90-minute experience. It was super disappointing that the actual time for the service does not accurately reflect on what is being advertised. When I first arrived at the spa and saw the price difference between a member and nonmember, I wanted to purchase the membership as it can be used at other locations. HOWEVER, this dispiriting experience made me walk away from this decision as I did not get the service I paid for. Also the hand and foot exfoliation is def NOT worth it. If you want to be assaulted, go to Massage Envy in Williamsburg. I just had a "massage" by Nattacha and it was painful! I asked for light to medium touch and told her I was there to relax. I did anything, but relax at my appointment today. I was expecting a Swedish massage and instead I got a Thai massage complete with bodily manipulation and pressure point use. After 15 minutes of her abuse, I told her to stop and that my experience up to that point was painful. She then eased up ever so so slightly, but honestly, I think she only knows one way of doing this and can't really alter her approach. I am certainly no prude, but she saw every external sex organ I have. There are ways to adjust the sheets so that this doesn't happen and she employed none of them. Just terrible! I am sitting here in pain and can barely move my neck. Membership cancelled and never going back; this type of assault is not what I pay for. There is a lot of turnover (both front and back of house), but they seriously need to vet their technicians better and train your front desk staff to pair the appropriate technician's style with the client's wants. Well the best part of this ordeal was how nice the receptionist was. My therapist was a half hour late so my girlfriend and I talked to the receptionist about us having time to have a quick drink in the mean time. When we came back the therapist, Faith, was just getting in and heard us talking about our drink that we had while waiting for her to show up. She immediately said she can't give me a massage, was rude about it but the receptionist said "she's my girl, she'll take you back don't worry." Well she did but she kept insisting I'll get sick because of a half a cocktail, telling me how my body is so angry at me for multiple minutes (10 min out of 50), telling me how dry my skin is and how I used too much of her massage oil up. Then at the last 15 min of the hour I got another lecture about it all. I don't ever leave bad reviews ever. But damn I only asked for $20 to be taken off and didn't even get that. I forgot to cancel my appointment because we all tested positive for Covid and we spent most of our day contacting family's, hotels and car rentals. I never even received a confirmation call as a reminder. I am sure this was purposely done. They charged me a $55.00 no show fee to make matters worse they also garnished my extra 60 minute massage that I already paid for. Do not do monthly membership with massage envy because you are stuck and can't cancel. Any unused massage minutes you don't use rolls over. I paid for December massage but saved my 1 hour massage for January. Because of my family emergency they charged me 55.00 for no show fee and they also garnished was 60 minute massage. So I paid $120.00, they honnestly don't care what emergency you have even when I explained. I could have dealt with the 55.00 no show fee but for them to garnish a full 60 minutes I already paid for is uncalled for. A complete scam! I will never return to this location again and I will not recommend anyone to do a monthly member ship that you cannnot get out of. What I find interesting is that they can call you and cancel last minute for bad weather but if you don't call I'm 24 hours with a family emergency it will cost you two massage sessions! read more

My friend because she was taking cold medication couldn't have the massage done. They wouldn't let her. They didn't even come back and tell me so she had to wait an hour for me to get my massage. April 18, 2015 - I approached this "clinic" as a relatively new customer to massage (I've had maybe 5 in my life, the most recent being 8 months ago) I asked for a relaxing Swedish massage with a little more pressure because I could feel 2 knots developing on my left side. The Manager, Octavia swore up and down I needed a DMT for $12 extra. I did not want an intense massage. "You may be sore the next day, but that's it." After also asking my massage therapist who at 4:30 in the afternoon smelled like he had gone out clubbing and smoking the night before and hadn't showered or brushed his teeth, I got a DMT treatment. It was kind of painful on the table but this was the advise of people more knowledge than myself, yes? April 19 - I see that Massage Envy double charged me. I check with my bank and some junior manager is rude to me on the phone. "Well Imma need you to email our management team." I was displeased. April 20-24 - I woke up every day massive pain in my back. The entire back. What tiny bit of soreness I had before going to this clinic was nothing compared to this. I nearly called out of work because it was such a struggle to move. I got Bengay and IcyHot to use on my back, twice a day, stretched for about 20 minutes, day and night. April 24 - I call the "clinic" because it is concerning how much pain I am in. Octavia tells me if I'm having this much pain ai need to come in for a massage and another DMT treatment. Again I tell her I'm looking for pain relief, relaxation. "Well if you are having this much pain, DMT is what you need." April 25 - Octavia after several calls sees what I knew all along and refunds the double payment. On the voicemaul she says if I join it will be $0 fees. I go to the clinic and Shannon is my Massage therapist. She's nice and except for the DMT I enjoy my massage. Temporarily, I feel better. When I check out the people try to charge me $90. I tell them no, Octavia left me a message that this is a $0 fee. I play the message and they insist its a full member level charge. The girl behind the desk makes me sign a contract and takes both my ATM cards. Trying to look forward to my pain-free life, I leave. April 26 - May 5 - Once again I am in constant pain. I drink huge cups of water. I have Bengay or IcyHot on constantly. I am woken up every early morning by my back pain. I no longer trust the management in store. I call and go in to two stores and request that Mark the owner call me so we can discuss this ongoing issue. I want a refund for my services vecause I've been in constant pain for three weeks. May 4 - I call the "clinic" and complain that I've clearly been sold the wrong service and Im in constant pain. I ask for a refund because no one should walk into a service for pain relief and relaxation and come out with three weeks of WORSE pain. Octavia calls me and "tries to explain some pain you're feeling." I tell her exactly what I asked for again, and she constantly interrupts me. ***She then tells me that I shouldn't have gotten DMT if I'm new to massage*** Why then, Octavia did you tell me to get this service?! She gets angry and srarts talking over me at every chance ahe gets. I ask her not to interrupt me as I'm speaking. Octavia screams at me through the phone "I'm trying to explain this to you but if there is disrespect on either side I will be forced to end the call!" I refuse to be disrespected after also being injured. I hang up on her. May 5 - Octavia calls me at work and asks me what resolution I'd like. I tell her I am at work and will call or email later. In response I send an email with 4 requests. Refund for services that have left me in constant pain, cancellation of contract, Mark to call me and no more emails. May 7 - I get a condescending email saying no request of mine will be honored except the contract cancellation. May 11 - I post my first, shortened review of the bad advice, terrible advice and weak leadership. May 12 - Suddenly, despite all of my other, weeks of asking for Mark to call me to discuss this ongoing issue and to refund my money because I'm in constant pain he posts a response that leads to bo resolution whatsoever. May 12 - I call the NN and Williamsburg locations and ask that they send Mark an email to please call me and leave my number. No calls yet. No refund in sight. Yet today is May 16th and I've woken up because of my back pain that I never had before going to this Massage Envy. Smells like Bengay Dear Yelpers. I've had a knot in the middle of my back that has been shooting pains up and down my back for over a week. After being close to tears over it, I finally decided a massage therapist would be able to work it out and provide me some relief. I explained that to my massage therapist and she said she would help. During my massage she barely touched that area, and instead focused on my shoulders with a deep tissue type of pressure (that was not requested). I winced and held my breath the entire time because she was causing excruciating pain. For the rest of the day, and now the day after, my shoulders are bruised and swollen. It hurts to even move my arms, that's how hard she was applying pressure, despite my obvious discomfort. To make matters worse, I still have the knot in my back shooting pains. I also paid for a 90 minute massage that started ten minutes late and ended ten minutes early. I will definitely not be going back. read more

The most despicable business practices I have ever experienced. My wife and I were frequently cancelled on, rescheduled, or told that the couples room was double booked so we would have to get our massages separately. We were even shorted on our credits and often told that we had more credits than we did so that we would schedule more appointments. When I tried to cancel our membership I was told that we needed to email a request to cancel and any credits we had left over would expire by the end of the month. I was then somehow automatically enrolled in a month-to-month subscription without my permission. This required another email exchange to completely remove all memberships or recurring costs. The massages were widely varying in quality. A few of the therapists are excellent while most are marginal at best. Not worth it to have to deal with the management. Not at all surprising that they recently faced a massive class action lawsuit that they settled to avoid the scandal and discovery process of going to trial. Have been a member for many years, once my favorite masseuse left I have not found anyone who can give a decent deep tissue massage. I have gone through literally everyone on staff. And the facials are worse! I paid up charge for a food scrub and neck massage with my last facial. Zero neck massage and she only scrubbed the very tops of my feet. I found Massage Luxe and really like it! First masseuse was a hit! And they offer discounts and bonus' for member that I never ever saw from Massage Envy. I recommend Massage Luxe in Williamsburg over Massage Envy big time. More comfy massage tables, headrests, warmer heater on table if you like it, hot tea in relaxation room and better staff. Not sure what is up with Massage Envy, if its the company or local mgt., but to keep customers you have to try and act like you actually care that they give you money every month. I mean, would it break you to give a free 30 minute massage on birthdays or something? Plus there seems to be issues keeping masseuses there, which sucks for customers. read more

Could not use my appointments because of covid. Had 9 appointments waiting for me (I travel a lot for work and knowing when I am in town a month ahead of time is not possible; getting an appointment two weeks ahead was a problem). Wanted to use my appointments in the summer of 2021, but the policy of Massage Envy is "we don't tell our employee status because of HIPPA laws". Knowing that this information IS freely available in various states, I called Heath & Human Services and they said that HIPPA only applies to Medical facilities and Massage Envy is not covered under HIPPA. I'm very annoyed that the company does not CARE if I am in a little room with limited ventilation with someone who may not even know if they are spreading Covid. I won't go back, EVER, and the company gets to keep $540 of my money for nothing. The company is not a member of BBB. You can not reach company headquarters, either. They tell you "it is a management decision", but there IS no management. The local manager is supposedly in charge, but they point to the owner, who you can't talk to. I'm very, very disappointed as something that was SUPPOSED TO BE relaxing has turned out to be a stressor. UGH. Poor business practices. Nothing like driving your customers away on purpose. This is the worst service ever! I bought my husband 3 massages and he is an injured Army Veteran and the massage helps him tremendously. He went to use his second massage and they said it was only good for three months, and he could not use his remainung 2 massages on his card because it has been three months since his last massage. If I were writing this review about the therapists, it would be 5 stars, however, the appalling and discourteous behavior of the front desk staff, specifically Stephanie the manager deserves a zero. I have been a member of Massage Envy for several years and have visited numerous locations throughout California and Virginia. I have always had a pleasant experience and have never encountered any challenges regarding front desk transactions. Well, never until I booked appointments at the Williamsburg location. I scheduled appointments for my sister and myself so we could share relaxing sister time and celebrate my birthday together. Over the phone, I explained to the gentleman, who scheduled the appointments, that I would like to transfer one of the massages in my account to my sister. This is not an unusual request as it is a membership benefit. He verified the number of massages available, took my and my sister's contact info and confirmed the time and date requested. Less than five minutes later I received a voice mail asking for my sister's contact info again to confirm her appointment. I returned the call and repeated the info. I received a second call to tell me that the massages had to be rescheduled because the times I requested were not available. Why did you confirm contact info, and appointment times if they were not documented or available? I should have known then... My sister and I arrived for our appointments and were escorted to the waiting area. Our therapists Candi and JoAnn(?) were friendly, attentive, and we both agreed the massages were excellent. We met back at the reception area thoroughly relaxed and stress-free; for all of two minutes. Not a single one of the four front desk staffers understood how to transfer a massage from my account to cover my sister's massage. I was told I needed to call and request the transfer. Really? I have never had to do that before. I requested that they call my home store to verify the transaction for me. Wow, it was as if I had demanded they cut off a limb. All eight eyeballs rolled in various directions, followed by huffs and puffs that would shame the big bad wolf. Of course, the attitudes were punctuated by the fact that none of them could figure out how to dial a phone. Once they did, they received a hold message and insisted that the location was closed because of the time difference between Virginia and California. Seriously? The message they heard states "Thank you for calling Massage Envy Spa UTC, exclusively offering Murad facials, please hold on the line for the next available receptionist, this call will be recorded for for quality assurance." The number is 858-535-1555 if you would like to hear it for yourself. I informed them it was a hold recording and that someone would answer, however, I was told I was incorrect (thanks for calling me a liar) and would have to pay out of pocket for my sister's massage!! At this point I was far from stress-free and relaxed, in fact, I felt more tense than I did before my massage. I called the UTC office myself, which was indeed open, and what do you know? They transferred the massage in less than a minute. I pointed out to Stephanie that it was my pleasure to do her job for her since she is clearly incompetent and can not complete the most basic transaction. But wait, it gets even better!! I requested to pay for the gratuity for both massages on my credit card. Simple request right? Clearly not. Stephanie, the manager, only charged my card for one gratuity. When I restated that I wanted both tips on one transaction she snapped "You didn't say that!" Twice called a liar by a service manager whose simple tasks I had to complete myself. She snatched my card from the counter and shook her snarled, angry face as she processed a second payment before slapping the card down on the counter at me. So much for tranquility. Stephanie, you are clearly in the wrong line of work. Your gross lack of courtesy, manners, patience, or pleasant demeanor are a testament to the fact that you should not be in a position which requires all of the above. Not to mention the fact that none of your staff can use a phone, understand a recorded message, accurately enter contact info and appointment requests, or process payments which further demonstrates a lack of leadership and training skills. You are a miserable, appalling "service" representative and the reason I will never return to, much less recommend this Massage Envy location. Do yourselves a favor and drive to Richmond or VA Beach because tunnel traffic is more relaxing than a front desk experience at this Massage Envy. read more

Williamsburg Massage Envy front desk staff and management needs improvement and it looks like I'm not the only one who has had a bad experience with these folks. We are members of massage envy and went on vacation to Williamsburg. Wanting to enjoy our vacation we planed a few visits visit in the couples room. First visit when we came in we were told someone called us and left us a voicemail to tell us the therapists were not available for 90 min. We had a missed call but No Voicemail despite the note written in our account said a message was left! They gave us a bonus foot scrub for the mix up, massage itself was good. Second massage apt: I called ahead and asked to change my apt from 90 min to 1 hour and was told this could be done WITH NO PENALTY. I asked and confirmed this fact 3 times before hanging up!! Later when I came in for my apt I was told this was not true. Front desk staff was unhelpful, uncaring, "not my problem attitude". Lady I spoke with was black with short hair. Three other while women stood by and said nothing while I was in the establishment. I was told one thing over the phone by one front desk staff member and later told that there was no note in my Account and therefor implied I was lying. When I asked if there was a way to know who I spoke with the front desk staff was unhelpful and less than willing to find out. She claimed she would then write a note in my account and have a manager contact me. I have no faith that anything accurate was ever written in my account and to date have not gotten a call from the manager. I did get a call confirming another pre scheduled appointment and promptly cancelled. I would NEVER recommend this franchise and seriously am Considering canceling membership (my husband's and mine) all together as one bad apple has made me lose trust in how this company does business. Not only are my husband and I out 3 hours of massage but also faith that these people are honest, trustworthy or care about their clientele beyond the dollar signs. What a horrid experience!!!!!!!!! The Williamsburg, VA - Massage Envy, Best I've visited. I've been to the one in Sterling, Leesburg and Chesterfield County VA. Also, visited Mount Pleasant, SC location. They gave us our profiles when we arrived, had a person sit one on one to talk about our preferences, offered us water and the desk clerks were friendly and welcoming. The facial and massage technicians were great. Everyone at the Williamsburg location was friendly and efficient. I took a friend there to treat her and she had the same experience. I've had a few issues here and I've the feeling they were not just simple mistakes due to incompetence, but intentional acts in attempts to get me to do what they wanted. From giving me the wrong therapist to telling me after a service that the "deal" I had at booking had expired and attempt to charge me a higher amount. read more

I just had a facial with Amanda and it was wonderful. They accommodated me in every way possible. I am always running hot and carry a little fan with me everywhere I go. Of course I forgot to bring it today. They brought one in for me and did everything they could to make me comfortable. My skin is extremely dry and has been since my thyroid quit working. The products Amanda used on my sensitive skin as well as the heavenly way she applied them totally made me and my skin feel great. She does a great massage on the neck, face, arms, shoulders and hands too! My husband is a yearly member here and he comes here regularly.
