I came in today and it was a pretty routine session and when I came out to leave a tip, I was told I would not be able to use my Groupon redemption code even though that's exactly what I used to even book the appointment over the phone. They told me that I was unable to redeem the code because I was not a first-time customer. They called an owner or manager from another location who after going back-and-forth with me, said that there was no point in us arguing because I was just going to go and write a negative review. The thought of leaving a review never crossed my mind. But after he said that, I thought it was a great idea. All I really wanted was for them to honor our prior conversation from a week ago. Since it was brought to my attention that this is something I could leave a review about I will do so. This will be my last time coming to this location. It's been a good couple years. This is not to discourage anyone from booking, but rather to encourage you all to read the fine print on the Groupon. Because even if you have a verbal conversation with someone on the phone and get confirmation that your appointment is booked, there are chances that they will not honor it. Century Day and Night Spa has turned into my favorite spot in Los Angeles because it really has everything under one roof. The amenities are the biggest draw for me. The hot jacuzzi, cold plunge, steam room, and sauna are all kept at such a high standard that I use them in rotation for ten to fifteen minutes each. By the time I finish a full round my body feels completely reset. Add in a nap room and a quiet communal space and you can easily turn what starts as a quick visit into a half day escape. The basement level has a gym that feels like a time capsule from the 90s or early 2000s. The machines are older but still get the job done, and there is a sense of nostalgia working out on equipment you don't see much anymore. That level also has a lap pool, which adds even more variety to the visit. Between the pool, the spa, and the gym, it really is possible to spend an entire day here without running out of things to do. The restaurant upstairs finishes off the experience. The food is on the pricier side and I would describe it as average good rather than amazing, but after hours of sweating and detoxing, it really hits the spot. I usually come here at least once a month, and on lucky weeks I'll get in a weekly visit, so the food has become part of my routine. The outdoor patio is also a nice touch when you want to step outside and take a breather. The restaurant could use a little more attention to cleaning. On one visit I was the only guest and it was more noticeable, but even then the meal felt like the right way to end the day. The only part of Century that has been inconsistent for me is the front desk. Two staff members, Tina and Grace, have not always been the most welcoming. A couple of times they even questioned whether I had passes when I did, and it felt less warm compared to how I saw other guests greeted. I almost lowered my rating because of this, but then I spoke with Edward and everything changed. Edward is calm, professional, and genuinely caring. He listened to my concerns, addressed them with respect, and made me feel like a valued regular. He is a big reason why I keep coming back because he sets the tone for what hospitality should be. Another standout is Ivonne, who usually works evenings. She is one of the kindest and most welcoming staff members I have ever met. She greets me in Spanish, always makes me feel comfortable, and even showed me how to use the spa app. That app completely changed the check-in process for me because now I just scan a QR code and walk in. I told both the front desk and Pulsri directly. Despite that, she massaged far too hard. I repeatedly asked her to go lighter and told her she was hurting me. She would adjust briefly, then go right back to being too rough, or just move to a different area instead of fixing the issue. She also popped my back and tugged on my fingers multiple times after I explicitly said not to. The headrest was stuffed so there was no opening to breathe. I pointed it out at the start and kept readjusting, telling her it was uncomfortable and hard to breathe, but nothing was fixed. When she saw me move my head she kept asking if I was okay. I expressed my problem but she went right back to massaging instead of fixing the headrest. At the end, while I was still lying there naked under a thin sheet, Pulsri asked if I was tipping in cash or Zelle and continued standing there after I said I'd tip outside. It was uncomfortable and inappropriate. There were also multiple signs in the tiny room stating a $30 minimum tip. Then she stood extremely close while I logged into my phone to send it, ignoring my requests for space and making me uncomfortable about my personal information.
