First time buying their Apple butter I hope it's good. I love mast stores. They had a lot of selected items for Mother's Day gifts. Parking in downtown can be a bit frustrating especially before 5pm.

I love a general store, and Mast General Store is a good one. They've amassed so many goods -- and it's on two levels. There's clothing, decorations, foodstuffs, barrels of candy, toys, souvenirs... I spent so much time on the first floor I didn't even go down to the lower level so I have no idea what's even down there. I even bought some clothes -- what I will now refer to as my Pioneer Woman outfit -- totally not my style but so soft and comfortable. Bring the whole family -- the kids will enjoy the large toy and candy section -- and I didn't even look at the large Mast-branded jams, jellies and jarred food section because I wouldn't be able to fit them in my suitcase. Definitely make this a stop on your AVL trip.

Hands down, this was a complete experience and a must see when visiting Asheville. It is a relic from the old days when general stores literally were just that and generally had everything. The place is massive and is located in the major retail and dining section, so park where you can. I went in there specifically for some snacks, but walked out with clothes, food, syrup, honey, and much more. They have multiple registers so it was a fast check out despite this place always appearing to be crowed. Also, they have a basement that looks more like a legit retail/clothing store than a general store and they also had a bunch of antiques around too. I was in awe of the old school cash register. Again, this is a must see and is great for the kids because of the authentic and homemade sweets and treats.

Been to Mast several times and it's pretty solid. There is a lot of options and goodies to be found here so take your time and explore both levels. The candy selection is amazing. A lot of new and classics so something for everyone. This store has a lot of good clothing, hats and shoes as well. A lot of variety. Enjoy.

Cool store. I knew it had the old candy and stuff but I did not realize the majority of the store is great outdoor clothing and boots, shoes, hats, etc. lots of name brands and other not as expensive brands as well. My wife bought some Oofos on discount that she had been wanting!

So this is how they got things back in the day. The ol' general store A little bit of everything My kids loved it here. They have super cool vintage toy section and cool candy area. They got sporting goods!! Yep, even some discs Just a really cool place to buy things you might or might not need

The BEST general store I've ever been to and everyone here is so nice and friendly. I love the candy section and found some cool nostalgic items like pez dispensers and pez candies. I also love the cooking section with unique North Carolina spices.

Anything you are looking for you can find at this store! It's two levels so there's plenty of souvenirs, outdoor activity clothing (hiking, fishing, skiing), books and food. They have an area in the back with choose your own candy and they have all the old school candies that we grew up with. Staff was very helpful. Slightly expensive but everything is excellent and name brand quality so you get what you pay for. They had so many options.

A good, fun shop to stop in...whether waiting on a reservation from a surrounding restaurant, or just to shop for something you need. A great location in downtown Asheville. It's very similar to the two other Mast General Stores in the state. From clothes, candy/snacks, novelty/gift items, to nostalgic products.

Lovely items to purchase for self and others! I found stickers and cat socks. My husband found a fancy knife made of WWIi plane parts. If you are looking for unique items or purchase for yourself and loved ones come here! Staff is extremely friendly and helpful.

One of the things I love about Asheville is that most places are dog friendly - and Mast General is Jäger approved. Found this general store while exploring downtown. Ended up coming here 2 times during our stay. They have everything!!! Candy, winter wear, hiking gear, cologne, food, sunglasses---and so much more. They also have Asheville logo'd items if you're looking for those types of souvenirs. And freshly popped popcorn. We all found something to buy while here-both days! And customer service here was quality. Had great chats with employees, and they were all very helpful and friendly.

3-stars on the general store part. Not a ton of subsistence style goods. 4-star for the basement. Very nice selection of quality gear.

Nothing more than a high-end "outfitters" type store. Overpriced and tourist trappery. Like a live L.L. Bean catalog essentially.

Really liked this store. A mixture of fun things, like barrels of candy, and useful things, like well-made clothing.

But honestly it's the French broad so that's a little questionable. Have not tried their actual guided tours or equipment rental. I can't believe I've been to hominy creek so many times and had no idea this place existed. What an oasis. Especially for summer months. On the weekends, it gets pretty busy with happy dogs and kids. They have their own food truck and they had some live music on Saturday. The food truck people were super nice, and they had a ton of vegetarian and vegan options. The bar has a lot of options for beer. Non-beer drinkers too. Surprising number for a small little shack. Lots of picnic tables to sit at and enjoy the weather. Little beach area and all within walking distance. Parking can get a little rough so be mindful.

French Broad Outfitters has you covered whether its hiking, tubing, or kayaking. Super helpful staff too! My family rented kayaks for the day and set out for the French Broad River. Staff took us by bus to our site to begin our roughly two hour adventure. You finish where you start. That's easier said than done if the river is running fast. Again staff is there to help all the way. I would do this again and highly recommend.
