I've been patronizing Master Muffler...now Master AutoTech...for years and ever since I talked my dad into getting dual exhaust on our family's '72 Buick Centurion with a 455-4 bbl. (the 3865 S State store did that installation in 1975!) So, on a suggestion from another Mazda mechanic, I started visiting the Master Muffler WVC store as I was told that the manager there, Phil, was a straight shooter and would take care of me. My mechanic was right, as I've been going there now every August for six years in a row for my smog check on my '06 Mazda. This year I called the WVC store and found out that Phil was now the manager of the 6790 S State store, so I scheduled a visit for yesterday. Phil just happened to be out yesterday, so one of his young techs did the inspection but he ended up failing me on an oxygen sensor bung (visual) that apparently didn't look right. I brought it back in today and had Phil look at it personally. According to our Utah State Department of Health, this O2 bung was a little too long and ever so slightly angled to their liking (however the O2 sensor was fully operating within parameters and the engine was running clean....) Nevertheless, Phil removed the old bung and replaced it with a Utah State Approved bung. 20 minutes later the car passed the inspection (again...) and I was off on my way. Kudos to Phil, Monique, and the crew there at Master AutoTech Murray. I will continue to patronize these folks and especially a store led by an honest and straightforward manager like Phil. My catalytic converter was going bad in my mercedes and my local shop wanted $1500 to replace. I called Master AutoTech on 6790 State and they gave me a $1000 quote over the phone. I made an appointment with them to get replaced and agreed on the $1000 to do the job. When I arrived for my appointment they looked at the situation and suggested I take to the Dealer and they explained that this should be covered under warranty. After taking their advise and help they were correct and the dealer replaced for nothing. These guys could have easily just replaced my converter and I would have happily paid them on what we agreed upon. Instead they did the right thing and helped me when It costs them sales to do the right thing. They are the only ones I trust do do any work on any of my families vehicles. I just recently had them Put a totally new muffler system on my older Camaro and it came out perfect! I would highly suggest using this business for any and all of your automotive needs! My '05 Nissan Frontier needed a new catalytic converter. After waiting for 2 weeks for my regular mechanic to be available, and then missing our appointment, I called Master Muffler. I dropped the truck off the next morning and the work was done the following morning. The staff at the desk were welcoming, relaxed, and personable to speak with. I already was pleased with the service, but then this morning a package from Master Muffler showed up at my house. Curious what I ordered, I opened it up. I came in to have my car looked at and was quoted over $370 for an exhaust leak.. ok if price wasn't my issue it would be ok. But I recently swapped my engine and needed to get a different exhaust and found a cheap one with a single tiny hole. And they are saying I had multiple leaks. I went home and looked at my car to find out my y pipe of my exhaust was loosened and leaking. I have a strong feeling they were trying to scam me. I went to oreillys and picked up a new piece for cheaper than they were going to fix it. Fix your car yourself if it's just leaking. If you were getting a whole new exhaust setup then maybe I would suggest them. read more

I had a wicked annoying rattle under our 2007 FJ Cruiser after some local off roading. Vic and the crew there could have easily charged me to remove all my under armor and replace\repair a bunch of unneeded stuff. After receiving terrible news from a Hyundai dealer repair shop that the ball joints and tie rods are in serious trouble and need replacement now. Took our truck there for an alignment, truck has pulled to the right ever since, shredded BOTH of our front tires. Have had to pay 700 dollars for new tires and a brand new alignment. Really impressed with these guys. I came in for an oil change and was quoted 45 min. He saw me hesitate and said that there was an oil change place down the way that could probably get me in right away. Kind of him to offer, but we decided to wait. While I was in the lobby, I overheard several customer interactions. Their honest and genuine desire to help others amazed me. A young lady accidentally said "yes" to synthetic oil. When it came time to pay, the guy at the front counter noticed that she got regular oil every previous visit. The oil change had already been done. Without prompting, he only charged her the cheaper standard oil price because she clearly didn't realize what she agreed to. Later on a phone call, he offered to find a used engine when a customer couldn't afford a refurbished replacement. Another call: a customer who had his vehicle in for evaluation opted to not have repairs done. A third party was brought in to do minor service. He was advised to pay the third party directly to avoid his mark-up since the customer wasn't going to have the work done. Every interaction was like that. It is so refreshing to see a service-based business that understands real customer service. Oh -- and my oil change was completed ahead of schedule. read more

Asked to have my exhaust done and wanted a mean and loud sound. They put a muffler on that made it quieter than before took it back they removed the muffler and said no charge. I look when ordering rims they straight piped where the muffler was and didn't offer me the 150 for the price of the muffler. I will never go back and still need my exhaust done to what I want. "Fixed right the first time, all work guaranteed" didn't happen, because even though they agreed the job wasn't completed correctly the first time, it was past their 12 month or 12,000 mile general warranty. I took my car in last week to get a new catalytic converter ERG and muffler. That part went great but then I had a massive fuel leak that they didn't catch so for a week I was smelling gas and couldn't figure out what the issue was. Finally I caught it dripping on the engine, talk about potential fire or explosion. I took it immediately back in they got it fixed and it seems to be running okay. While I was in the second time I decided to get the driver side window fixed. Now when I get home the driver side window will not go up on track and smacks into the side of the mirror. Now I have to leave the entire window down for the weekend. Being charged $400 to install a new regulator and motor with a handle and I can't get the window up. Now I have the potential of somebody stealing my car over the weekend because I cannot secure it. So far the worst experience I have had. Definitely a frustration and sense it's after company hours I can't do anything about it until Monday. But by Monday I may not have a car because it could be stolen. I would not recommend going to this location unless they can get some severe issues handled quickly. read more

Took it in to have safety and emissions done. Mechanics weren't very friendly. Took a long time to have a simple oil change done. Then they charged above the state maximum for a Safety Inspection. I don't recommend this Auto Care to anyone because they aren't timely, friendly and the try to charge more than they can by law. read more
