On a Thursday morning in August, I came here for a smog check at 8am. The owner opens at 7:30am Monday to Saturday. He ran the smog check on my 2006 Nissan Sentra and he said I failed. Next he asked questions if I did anything to my car which I had a change of battery 2weeks prior to smog check. So he told me to drive it on the freeway of 35 miles. I was charged $60 with $3 extra on credit card. He will charge me $10 when I come back. Status, I went back 2weeks later and I passed and paid $10 after drove my car to Costa Mesa 35 miles each way. Been coming for the past few years, and it never disappoints; the price has never changed, which, in my opinion, is a major green flag--$ 55 for a smog check, which I needed for my vehicle registration renewal. I got lucky and was the only one there right before closing, and it only took 10 minutes! Realized at last minute that I needed a Star location. Searched here on Yelp and saw these guys were right around the corner from my office. Went right in and asked if they can help me asked what kind of car and told me where to park right in front. Took maybe 10 minutes to get it all done. Nice guy and yes he has a Koi tank. This place seems shady as hell. There's a large tub of koi fish in the garage for some reason. The guy running this place (Harry) may seem like a dick when you first meet him, but you discover that he's actually a really cool dude after you start chatting with him a bit. He works pretty fast. $55 out the door for a smog check, 1 free retest. Unlike some other smog check facilities, this place has the capability of testing 1999 and older vehicles (which is great because those are the only kind of vehicles I own). I failed my 1st smog check here (incomplete OBD2 catalyst monitor). As advertised, I got a free retest, and passed that time around. My Marxist Overlords in Sacramento will be most pleased. There are 4 comfortable seats to sit on while waiting for the test to complete. If there's a line ahead of you during your visit, I would like to point out that Ajisen is conveniently across the street (should you happen to be craving a tasty bowl of Kitsune Udon while waiting your turn). read more

Fast and easy. I had an older car that needs to be tested every year. I took it here and I was in and out within 20 mins. It doesn't look too appealing from outside but it gets the job done. I'll definitely come back here for the next test. $60 for an old SUV. read more

This gentleman is helpful, honest, and cuts right to the chase. The prices are fair and I'm always in and out swiftly. I've been going to him for years for smog testing. Most recently I had an issue with a low battery and data that had been wiped from my OBC by a dealer service tech, causing me to fail the smog test. The owner explained what the likely issue was, advised me on measures to take and asked me to come back within 30 days. I've been here twice so far and thr Owner has been nice and quick. I called in advanced to see how much the smog check was and he quoted me $45 (both times). On my first visit, he was helping out another customer who turned out to fail their smog check. He charged them a lower fee I think and told them to drive another 200 miles and to come back and it'll pass next time and it'll be at a lower cost for their second round. He helped me after and I sat there for less than 10 minutes and was done! Paid and was on my way out. His service was so quick, I saw back with a second car and service was the same. Helped, paid, and out in less than 10 minutes. I highly recommend this place if you're looking for fast service at a reasonable rate. Just make sure to call in first to see he isn't busy! read more

I went in at 3:00pm, there was no wait at the time. I asked for a Smog check for DMV registration and he said $45. I gave the employee my keys, he parked the car in the appropriate spot, hooked up the obdii device and did some manual inspections of my engine bay, and then closed everything up and unplugged his cord from my car. He printed out the results and handed them to me. I paid the $45 and I was out of there by 3:06pm. FASTTT service. Needed a smog check as my weekend driver was due. Its been two years since the previous smog check of course and I had just tuned it up. I walked up to a technician who was beginning a smog check at Master City Smog, This man (cannot call him gentleman) barked at me saying "what do you need" . I told him i was wondering if he performed pretests. I wanted to see where my vehicle stood prior to the actual test. He suddenly became the most arrogant person on the planet barking at me with a disgusting grin on his face "Not so much. Why do you want a pretest? Why dont you just smog???!" For those of you who dont know, a pretest usually costs much less than a fully cycled smog check. Most smog stations offer this just to see where your vehicle is with smog numbers. You are able to collect information on what may need to be repaired before an actual test. Nothing is transmitted to DMV. Needless to say, i didnt want to be barked at like a child. I sighed, realizing the childish hubris that I had just walked into and just walked away. People who treat customers this way should not be in business at all. Ended up going to Vista Smog Test, West Covina. Gregg performed a pretest and full test. Car passed with flying colors. The only Mastery at Master City Smog is a master at hubris. Easy. Fast. 40 bucks for my Corolla with a certificate. This place opens at 830. I went there instead of the few other places at open at 9. I was in and out in 10 mins. The owner was friendly and spoke excellent English. I think he also speaks Mandarin and Cantonese. We chatted about oil change and some basic car maintenance. I suppose if your car passed the check like mine you'd have no issues with really any place. So I guess my review is really a quick snap shot.
