Stopped by today to get some donuts for myself and my grandson and the rest of the family! Usually these donuts are amazing and moist. They must have been having a rough day. The maple bars barely had any frosting on them, it was like it melted off, and kind of stale, same with the Devils food. They tasted like a day old or two. I love mom and pop shops and this donut place is great. The donuts are fresh and big and service is great. Every time I come here they are hard at work and turning out some yummy treats. Could they use a remodel? Sure , but I'm not here for the decor. I'm here for the donuts! I've have paid 2 times as much for chain donut/ coffee shops where the donuts were dry, too sweet, or just not worth the price. So glad I have this place a try since its in a small strip mall plaza. I think that five star reviews are handed out a bit too easily, but this place earns a solid five stars. My girlfriend's dad brought them over when we were hanging out there. Been coming to MD for years, but recently we have been stopping by on Mondays as it's on the way to our weekly doctors appointment. This is a small shop tucked in a small shopping center behind 7-11. The owners are so nice and always greet us with smiling faces. I am a donut junkie and have to say these are some of the best donuts in Vegas. The delicious donuts are consistently fresh, soft and flavorful. The variety is always good and the presentation is delectable. The for sure blow away any of the franchise shops and you can feel when you are there that they really appreciate the business. Today I had the old fashion maple....it was perfectly cooked and had a nice thick coating of maple frosting on it to give a explosion of maple flavor in my mouth. The donut crawl ended here where they open at 3:30 am and stick around until every last fritter and bear claw have been consumed or taken home to a good family. One lesson I learned from the donut crawl is that the chains cheat ya with teeny girlie donuts. The mom and pop shops deliver hulky treats, and Master is no exception! The glazed donut was quite the monster. My hub complained that they were a little stingy with the glaze, but I can see how someone might appreciate a little less sweet, so no star deduction will be assessed. The recipe here is noticeably different too. I am not intimate with the details, but the texture here is more dense resulting in a big mouthful that takes a bit more chew, and the flavor is more doughy. Overall, probably the least saccharine specimen we sampled. For me, the flavor was good in its own way. I contemplated 3-stars, but the good were fresh; the service was friendly, and I liked it. Soooo, let's see. Saturday Morning off running errands after a night out and of course I was in the mood for donuts. After our mispick for Donut Hut, it was time to try some Master Donuts. For the first time in my life, I did not order a whole dozen of donuts. We kept it simple, very simple. Donut Holes for my son: Dry, tasted old and not soft at all. Cinnamon roll: Almost Perfect. Not too sweet, a perfect blend of glaze and cinnamon seasoning. Soft and chewy on the inside with a nice bite and crisp on the outside. Chocolate dipped buttermilk: I didn't like it until I got to the very center of the donut. The outer edges were hard and dry. A bit too crispy really. But once I got to the middle it was joy. It was moist, soft, and flavorful. I only regretted getting the chocolate glaze because I didn't care for it at all. Sugar Twist: Soft, chewy and fresh. Melted like butter. Dee-lish! The owner is super-friendly and if you get here early enough, you can get plenty of options to choose from including savory breakfast pastries. After paying closer attention on their store hours, I noticed that like most popular family-owned local doughnut shops, they are usually out of donuts by mid morning. Unlike some places, they don't skimp on the ingredients or flavors. Old fashioned or regular, their maple will taste like actual maple syrup instead of some watered-down sugary pastry with a tinge of maple color and flavor. Had these donuts again today. Even after they were sitting around the office all day they were still moist and excellent. I passed this store countless times and never thought to try them until recently when someone else brought them into the school. The dough is very rich with a great consistency. Its not too "cakey" or airy like some other more popular brands. I have a friend who was a Master Pastry Chef who had a recipe like these from his grandmother. I never thought Id taste anything close again. Ive actually tried a few gourmet places on the strip which were close, but nothing like these. I wasn't completely convinced until my third time now.
