McGrath's is a pretty standard American diner with an Irish pub theme. Darkly lit (a little too dim) and lots of old decor. I had a Master's Benedict with home fries and was only mildly satisfied. The ham was soggy and tasteless and the home fries seemed microwaved. Hollandaise sauce was pretty tasty and the Bloody Mary was quite sizable and reasonably priced. Located directly off Route 107, a short distance from I-95, is Master McGrath's. This restaurant is doing it right because they have been here over 40 years. Plenty of parking in the private lot off Batchelder Road and Route 107. Walk in, to the right is the lounge, to the left is the restaurant. After being greeted by a friendly hostess, you are seated. It's a rustic interior with heavy dark wood tables and benches for seating. The dark seating adds to the rustic appearance, dark period but subtle. Brunch starts at 8:30am Saturday and Sunday. We were here today for the brunch. The food was bland. Sausage links tasted old and the eggs were quite wet. Had the cinnamon bun and that tasted like it was bought from a store. For $2.99, it was a waste of money. I spent the day after eating here sick to my stomach, so we will not be back for breakfast. Two eggs hard, Cinnamon Swirl French Toast, Sausage Links, Coffee, and Orange Juice. A very pleasant and informative waitress. There is no private room for functions. Only thing possible is to call ahead to use the lounge but not private. read more

Poor dining experience on a Saturday night. This was our first time there and we were told that the beef stroganoff was good, but that apparently is only served on Thursdays. Unfriendly staff, very old & dumpy looking, rushed through dinner and poor quality. I had the prime rib that was tough and overdone with a slightly warm baked potato (not warm enough to melt the butter) and frozen broccoli florets with some fake béarnaise sauce. My wife had a filet which was prepared fine but with similar accompaniments. Lame salad bar but the bread was okay. It wasn't very busy for 5:30pm on a Saturday night and I understand why. Maybe the sandwiches are okay but we will not be back. Wasted $60. This place needs a makeover and a new chef. read more

We decided to try this place on a whim and were decidedly unimpressed. While the fried scallops were outstanding, that was the only positive thing we can say about the experience. The interior looks more like a funeral home than a restaurant and is in desperate need of an update. (Robert Irvine would have a field day here) The clam chowder was decent, but nothing special and the lobster roll was barely edible. They used what was obviously poor quality meat, consisting of only claws and legs which were severely over cooked and mushy (which is unacceptable at $15.99). The server was polite however he was the only one working a lunch service and required numerous requests of the same item before it ever made it to the table, and forget about any hope of drink refills. This is the worst restaurant I have ever ate at. Food rubbery , barely edible and consistently having to send my food back. Elaine is also a horrible waitress who is extremely slow and and gave us a scowling look when we asked for our food to be remade. Also heard lots of swearing in the line and even saw one of the cooks sneeze and didn't wash his hands. Extremely unprofessional and confused how this place makes it's money. Also Alex the bus boy was really helpful with getting us drinks, worked hard and was very respectful. Sad to think the only highlight about this place is the younger hard working kids. I normally don't do reviews but had to make an exception. This is probably the worst food I have ever had. We got the stuffed mushrooms for an app. They were rubbery and swimming in a pool of butter. Actually sent them back after a bite. The main dishes were just as bad. Chicken marsala was greesy and flavorless, the steak tips were severly over cooked and chewey. At least the baked potato was good. The only reason I gave them one star is because I couldn't go lower. read more

The food was good. Everyone enjoyed their meals which ranged from hamburger, flatbread pizza to chicken cordon bleau. The prices are really reasonable. Five of us ate lunch for $65.00 Now to the décor...dated and dark are being kind. The smell of mustiness from the curtains and rugs is almost overwhelming. I do love the individual booths and general set up but closing doen and pulling up that carpet would do wonders for the business because the food is good. read more

Any place named after a dog gets at least some kudos from me. I'm not a gambling or animal racing fan, however. I don't mind if someone else wants to, but personally, they just creep me out. Not sure how much cross pollination there is between the Greyhound Track down the street and this place, though. I've only been here a couple of times, and never during a peak time. The food is pretty typical pub food, not offensive. It's dark and there are a few (1?) booths that are kind of charming with maroon curtains nooking them off. I don't think there'd be much charm sitting at the tables in the center of the room. Still, there's a nagging skeeviness associated with the place in my mind. Not sure if it's from the actual pub or just the association of dog track atmosphere. Here's the story behind this joint: "Master McGrath was a greyhound who became an Irish National hero by beating England's racing pride White Rose and carrying back the coveted Waterloo Cup to Ireland three times. There's a big stone monument to him next to our sister pub in County Waterford. Horrible service, bugs on the windows, sticky seats, hostess who hates her job and god forbid you ask them for a seasonal beer ( that is listed in the menu!) Had dinner here many times with my family while we vacationed at Hampton Beach. I had not been here for many years until I decided to take my wife up to Hampton and we stopped here for dinner. The decor looked like it hadn't been updated in a long time. The staff was very pleasant and knowledgeable regarding our questions about the menu. The food itself was very subpar and lacked flavor. Great local dive spot for after work drinks and eats. This was our old Monday night football hangout where many a cold beer, wings and steak sandwiches passed through our table. I passed through for a quick beer and was glad to see the place has not changed too much with friendly bartenders and good food. Whenever I order stuff from here, it's pretty good. Not too many healthy choices, but a yummy fattening meal right near the beach. Be aware that there's a lot of crackheads in the apartments and hotel nearby. My husband got all his $2500 worth of soldering tools stolen from his truck when just inside for a few seconds next door at the gas station. Anyway, the only thing I have to say negative, is that the floor and general restaurant is really filthy. Not sure about the kitchen. Service is slower than average. Food good. read more

I've lived in the area 23 years and when to Master McGraths first time last night. The fried fish & burger were excellent. Sat in the bar which is dark and needs a serious cleaning. The brown ceiling tikes are likely brown from tar and smoke from before smoking was banned in public. The floor needed sweeping and completely worn and dirty rugs a vac but need replacing. The place needs some color and freshness. A local bar regular was the loudest mouth in the place (Pete?) which was annoying too say the least. The salad bar was barely ok and needs to be improved. I don't think the place has been remodeled, cleaned or got any new furniture in 40 years. But I went for dinner and food was good, although the Cole slaw was warm. read more

We enjoy eating at Master McGrath's. It's a nice place to enjoy food and good conversation with friends. It's worth the stop in Seabrook New Hampshire for it's authentic pub atmosphere. Although the menu is appealing, the experience of eating in a pub is more impressive than the food. One bonus for those looking for a late Sunday morning breakfast is that Master McGrath's is one of the few restaurants in the area where a brunch menu is served. Service is prompt, prices are reasonable. This is a recommended restaurant if you're looking for a local place with a traditional American menu, but "not" a chain restaurant. read more

Went here on a Wednesday for lunch with a friend. We both got a luncheon special and I have to say that I was disappointed. It was nicely presented but once I tried it, things went downhill. I got veal parmesan with linguine. The veal was so tough I could barely cut it let alone chew it. The linguine was so overcooked I almost couldn't eat it. The chef should be taught how to cook pasta "al dente". Worse still it came with a roll that I really believe was not cooked enough! The waitress was very good, attentive but not overbearing. I haven't had dinner here, but I've had brunch there once. However I used to hang out at the bar every Friday after work (2001-2004) when I worked at the Best Western across the street. The drinks are cheap & stiff. The bartender & wait staff are really nice. Great neighborhood watering hole atmosphere. I used to always run into people I knew there & that meant free drinks for me! The appetizers are pretty good. I recommend the nachos & the french onion soup. Alot of people love the lobster pie. I've never had it because I'm a vegetarian, but I've heard it's really good. read more

My husband and I love this place. Unexpectedly good food at decent prices. It looks like there was sort of a Victorian theme that has not been changed since the place opened. The staff are incredibly friendly, the lobster pie is incredible, steak tips also very good. Salad bar leaves much to be desired... If you're the type to have a need to eat in upscale contemporary environments don't bother coming. One of the worst places I've ever eating. Got the salad bar and there were fruit flies in all the dressings and some of the food. Told the waitress and not even I'm sorry. Very rude waitress. Got the steak tips with fresh green bean and they were still raw and there were also bugs jumping on my plate. The bread from the salad bar was still frozen in the middle. Very slow. I always really enjoy my meal here. I've had the clam chowder which is great, usually alongside their salad bar. The salad bar isn't huge, but I like the less common options they do offer such as a bean-dip style bean salad, marinated onions, and pickled beets. Yes, the decor is something from about 35 years ago, but that's why I love it! You can't beat the dark wooden booths flanked by heavy tapestry.
