This was a really special takeout place. It looks Japanese design-a lot of octopus with different materials. The menu was on the wall with pictures. This was our first time trial. We don't really want the traditional one. But we don't like wasabi food either. So we picked the Mentaiko one. We waited about 15 or 20 mins to get our order. The box was unique and the paper bag was so cute. My little one loves to carry it for a long way. The chopsticks bag also have their octopus logo. My little girl loves it so much. It was delicious and it did have good amount of octopus pieces inside. I can't wait to come for the next time.

Was fun to try tako yaki that was cooked from scratch. Tried black truffled tako yaki that came with 6 pieces for $16.99. It ain't cheap and did not taste much truffle. However takoyaki itself was very tasty.

So many good things to say about this place! I'm glad I finally got to try it after seeing it take over my social media this summer. 10/10 for the vibes, service, and packaging for sure! I would like to see a change in their hours though - perhaps maybe open a little later, especially on weekends? I love the atmosphere. The decor makes it feel like you've just stepped onto the foodie streets of Osaka. The decor and packaging are so cohesive. The study boxes and take out bag are all designed really well and high quality. I like the straight-forward menu - a good amount of choices that cater to all palettes. When I went, they were having a sale on all the Takoyaki, plus 25% off your 2nd box. Obviously, this is still slightly more than your standard takoyaki pricing, however, these are larger than usual. Each takoyaki has ~2 small pieces of octopus in it. I feel like they could've put 1 or 2 more since these takoyakis are larger. If you feel like it's too expensive, brush up on your reaction skills because if you can stop the timer at the exact price of your takoyaki, then it's free! For example, if your order is $14.99 and $16.99, you have two chances to stop the timer - once at 14.99 seconds and once at 16.99 seconds. Note: I'm not sure if I'm just unlucky but the wooden chopsticks were very, very splintery - so be careful!

I will begin with this: I was only in Japan less than 3 months ago as of this review, and have sampled many of their supposed best takoyaki places. This place was pretty good, and probably as close as it'll get to the real thing across the pond. Coming back to Markham for my annual holiday visit, my parents took me twice here to Master Tako. There are several takoyaki options shown on the wall, and all you have to do is tear the "ticket" underneath the selection and hand it to the cashier. In my first time here I had the green onion takoyaki. The flavours unfortunately didn't mesh well, though I can tell that the takoyaki itself is very good. In my second time, I ordered the wasabi infused takoyaki and the tobiko takoyaki. The wasabi takoyaki was good, albeit a bit higher spice than I expected for the wasabi. The tobiko takoyaki was also very good, a lot better than the green onion one I had. I heard good things about the mentaiko takoyaki, but I never ended up trying that. Perhaps next time? Cash and debit only as per the signs, however...I accidentally had my credit card swiped on my wallet, and it did register. So the machines do accept credit cards, but let's work to ensure these businesses survive.

Small little store front in plaza specializing in takoyaki for Japan. Many different flavors to choose from. Very well decorated eye capturing in Japan style store. Items were good. It does take a bit of time to cook takoyaki that is to be expected. All the menu and details on the wall easy to read. Opposite wall they have bar table top with a couple of bar chairs. Very hot be careful when biting in. Flavour can be described as savoury sauce, creamy kewipie mayo with seaweed and bonita flakes. Kind of melts in your mouth, mouth feel. Yum! Washrooms use food court ones.

Had the uni cream flavour and loved it! Been a while since we've had good takoyaki and this place doesn't disappoint. The uni and seaweed topping had great balance, would definitely try again if I'm in the area. The unagi flavour was also good but definitely has a more fishy flavour. There are a few seats in the store as well and staff was super friendly!

I've been so curious about this spot (as I keep seeing reels for this place) and finally had a chance to check it out. It's a small take out store in a mall that is very playful and fun looking (definitely picture worthy!). The staff were very sweet and the service was noticeably quick! And I just love their packaging so much. Size and flavour of the takoyaki was just like the one that I tried in Osaka! The whole vibe brings me to the memory back to when I travel to Osaka. Such satisfying experience in many ways. More than willing to visit again :)

Master Tako is located on the right hand side of the food court in one of those individual shops. The shop is super cute with lots of Japanese manga/anime + childhood references. You can easily order by tearing off the slips on the wall to indicate which flavour(s) you want, and hand it to the ladies at the cashier to process your order. The flying fish roe, and the unagi were my favourites. The ingredients on top were so loaded! The packaging is absolutely extra with such a beautiful design! Can't wait to come back and try more flavours ^^

Finally got a chance to try the takoyaki at the viral Master Tako! We got mentaiko and noriutakoyaki. I loved the mentaiko one! IMO the pieces of octopus were very small (same size as or smaller than night market). Texture was a little fluffier than what you'd get at night markets, but overall tasteless without the sauce. The sauces really do carry the taste of the entire dish. Whoever did the design of the box and bags deserves THREE raises. Very vibrant and cute, loved the decor, the little tags, and the GIANT bag! All excellent quality :) Service was absolutely 5*. Very sweet and patient. They also have a scratch card where if you collect all 5 characters in their name, you get a reward! Creative and interesting loyalty program.

Tried out Master Tako, a spot known for its fun variety of takoyaki like original, unagi, tobiko, wasabi, and truffle etc. The space is super cute, with Japanese manga, anime, and childhood nostalgia wallpaper. Ordering is also easy, just tear off the slips on the wall for the flavours we want and hand them to the staff. The packaging, in-store vibe, and service were great, but the wait was a little long. By the time we got them, some were already cooling down. But tbf, we ordered 5 different flavors, maybe that was quite the wait. We ordered: * Wasabi Infused * Gold leaf unagi * Tobiko * Mentaiko * Black truffle The takoyaki itself was decent, but definitely on the saltier side. They go heavy on the toppings, though I wish there were more filling inside. Prices are on the higher end compared to other takoyaki spots in Toronto, but I'd still come back just for the truffle and unagi.

    Siyu T.

A cute anime themed shop selling a different flavors of takoyaki. The takoyaki seems to be fried as its crispy on the outside and soft on the inside with small pieces of octopus. They have a variety of unique and cool flavors to try. Went with the gold foil unagi takoyaki and curry cheese lava takoyaki. Definitely like the curry cheese takoyaki more with the cheesy pull. The unagi takoyaki is kinda plain as its a normal takoyaki topped with unagi. It would be better with more octopus inside for the price.

Actually really great Takoyaki. Restaurant and everything about it is excessive nice. Lots of attention to detail. Packaging is crazy nice. Service was quick. Hope they survive cause I'm sure the cost is really high and this is street food so they can't charge too much. Overall it's great food, service and experience.

This new takoyaki place is located in New Kennedy Square near the food court area. They feature 8 different types of takoyaki and we got the spring onion and crab roe topping. To order, you tear off the slips by the takoyaki and hand it to the cashier. They make the takoyaki balls fresh when you order so it's nice and steamy hot when you get it. They don't skimp on the toppings, which I loved. The takoyaki balls are much larger than the ones you would order from the restaurant. They have a few big pieces of octopus in them and taste fantastic. While they are on the pricier side, it's worth giving a try! The staff are extremely friendly, the store front has an amazing design and their packaging is beautiful. Im looking forward to going back again to try their other flavours!

Came here with some friends for the omakase special meal…read more Such a lovely overall standard omakase experience and meal. The highlight for me was probably the set of four starter appetizers, they were flavourful, delicately prepared and perfect way to start the meal. I liked the slightly pickled dish with cucumbers the best. We also had sushi prepared with fresh seafood. The rice was probably my favorite compared to other places I've been. It was perfectly seasoned rice, warm and cooked to have just the right texture, not overcooked and not undercooked. The rice held up well when picked up by hand and complemented the flavours of the fish. Finished the meal with a matcha flavored pudding flan type dessert which had deep matcha flavours. If you're a fan of matcha, you'd probably enjoy it too. All in all, the meal was enjoyable, the torched tuna sushi was probably my favorite sushi of the set and my least favorite was the egg/eel, I was expecting a sweet egg at the end so it unexpected.

Taki is a fine dining Japanese restaurant located in the busy commerical areas of Richmond Hill…read more We recently had lunch here for a special occasion. The restaurant is super quiet and they offer great quality of food with great service, and the price is expensive if you choose to order sukiyaki set (expect $80+ per person). You can choose between sushi sets at different price level or sukiyaki from the menu. This suits the need of our group given some people prefer sushi but some couldn't eat raw food. They also offer a couple of limited appetizer dishes such as tempuras and unagi don. If you booked the sukiyaki table and want to order sushi, you need to call them in advance to notify which sushi sets you want. We tried the sashimi and sushi courses at $55, which included miso soup, 5 pieces of sashimi, 8 pieces of sushi (squid, toros, salmon, scallop etc.), handroll and matcha or black sesame icecream at your choice. The sushi is smaller than average, suitable for small eaters. The course is totally worth the money. I love every piece of sashimi and my favourite sushi include the scallop and the squid. Everything was super fresh. The dessert was also having the perfect sweetness level for me. In addition, we also tried the sukiyaki for two ($110), which includes mushrooms, cabbages, great quality of Angus beef, yummy tofu and udon. Again, all the material was with great quality and super fresh. I especially liked the sweet sukiyaki soup, the tofu and the udon. We also ordered some shareable dishes including chawanmushi, unagi don and cod. Cod was cooked to perfect (soft and flavourful), and unagi don had quite decent portion. It would be better if the unagi could be softer from my personal opinion. Chawanmushi was mediocre. Overall, I strongly recommend this restaurant to fan of Japanese cuisine. It meets different people's needs by offering both cooked and raw food options, and the sushi set definitely has great value for money.

The worst was the beef sashimi which had the gnarliest grey colour (ykno the colour when meat is leftover sitting in the fridge for way too long) and had no sear at all either. Sushi temperature was much too warm and the variety was pretty basic for the 2 person platter. Shrimp tempura was good tho - not too oily and not overcooked. The restaurant was extremely hot inside, the A/C was no where near the right temperature for how hot it's been this summer. It was also extremely noisy inside since the restaurant is relatively small - not really a place for a quiet, lowkey meal.

Compared to the Scarborough location, I'd say this one felt calmer even though it was still pretty packed. I think it's just the way the booths are spaced out and it's really well staffed. It wasn't a long wait for anything, and always easy to flag someone down if we needed to order or just needed some help. The parking here though is quite difficult compared to the Scarborough location. Theres a ton of competing restaurants and the lot isn't large enough to accomodate all of them. There's more parking in the underground space though so you can walk through the plaza if you like.

Tastes exactly the way I thought it would. Which is internal organ like but in an unpleasant creamy way. Duck liver raspberry toast: Nice but could be bigger. The raspberry brought an expected nice sweetness to the nice liver taste. A little more raspberry would be nice. Tuskune and egg yolk dip: It's ok but not that big a deal. Cheese momo: Fantastic. The swiss cheese is an excellent pairing to the chicken. Skin-Kawa - Delciious. Crispy. Must have, Hiza (knee cartidlidge): nice and crunchy Beef short rubs boneless: Was enticed due to the tendon part. It was nice but not incredible. Beef tenderloin + Chimichurri: Wife's favourite. We always order several of these. P-toro: Another must repeat. Great pork belly taste. Cherry tomato bacon maki: New and delightful. Bacon wrapped cherry tomatoes provide a delightful burst of tomatoey sweetness wrapped with the unctuousness of bacon. Lamb rib chop: Excellent and tasty. Once again everything was cooked perfectly and the amazing binchotan smoke made everything delicious. Fun fact, they put charcoal in the free water carafes as well.

Good food that hurts your wallet…read more Japanese izakayas are few and few between in Markham - that's why I got excited to see Sumoki pop up! It's not on the main street of Unionville, but its presence on a side road matches the quaint nature of the restaurant. It's not the biggest inside, but it gives off a Japanese aesthetic with the wood trim throughout. We made reservations in advance to avoid long lines, if any (thankfully it wasn't packed the night we went). Orders are made via QR code, which seems to be the norm now. I like it since you don't have to waive down waiters in a low-dimmed izakaya. Their main offering seemed to be skewers. We ordered a bunch of them to try - notably, all of them had a nice smoky fragrance to them (maybe that's why it's called Sumoki). We especially enjoyed the Grilled Chicken Skin. Perfect crunch from the initial bite leading to a slight chew throughout. The seasoning was spot on as well. Other honourable mentions include extremely succulent Chicken Thigh meat, Gizzards and Beef Tongue. You could really taste the meat juices from each skewer since the chefs don't overpower it with seasoning. Other local skewer places tend to have the same seasoning across different cuts of meat, so Sumoki felt like a breath of fresh air amongst the growing market. Coincidentally, it's also the first place I've been to offer Giant Rooster Testicles. Now...don't be alarmed. It sounds exotic and might not be everyone's cup of tea, but this dish is extremely creamy. Give it a try if you have the courage! We came to celebrate my brother's birthday, but quickly realized our bill was racking up really quickly despite a small number of orders. Sumoki is definitely a place where you don't want to come on an empty stomach, since each order is 1 skewer (unlike other local restaurants). Other menu items, from what we saw of neighbouring tables, didn't fare much better in terms of portion sizes. We left quickly to avoid some serious financial damage for the 6 of us, but also quickly drove to another impromptu restaurant to get settle our hunger down. Sumoki definitely isn't cheap. I wouldn't recommend this to be a formal dinner - moreso if you wanted a light snack after dinner. But then again, with these prices, Sumoki tries to make itself bougie without delivering 100% satisfaction so maybe try at your own risk.
