This place is super great and spectacular. They are more on the lowkey side of town operating a small shop that can fit less than 40 people. However, once you walk in you will be complimented with respectful staff and a great sushi chef that has worked at the place for many years. Compared to other omakase experiences/sushi restaurants, this is beyond one of the better places especially with the affordable price. The restaurant is quiet, but offers a great view of the sushi master preparing the sushi. I personally got the Omakase set for $98, where I had 13 items. It was one of the best food experiences of my life. Although we were not served by hand from the chef, the uni, foie gras, and toro were spectacular, it had so much flavour and also melted in your mouth. It was my birthday the week I went, and the server had overheard me talking about it, where they have given me a complimentary slice of cake. Exceptional service indeed. Overall, this place deserves all the love because they are consistent with their food, great service overall, and the ambiance is great for a date or even going out with family. 10/10

Hidden gem in Richmond shill for omakase. $75 is a very good value if you are the fans of omakase but don't want to break the bank. Good services and fresh foods

Disclaimer: I generally include pricing and value in ratings. Toshi Ryoriten exceeds my usual price range by so much that this review doesn't consider pricing or value. My friends wanted to try a nice Japanese restaurant, so I went along. I knew it would cost like $10 a piece of sushi. How fresh? Very, very fresh. Melt in the mouth soft. There were some unusual fish selection. Plating was meticulous. Services was effective and politely out of sight when we wanted to be left alone. The only critic was that a friend said his cooked dish didn't worth it.

A lovely omakase experience in the GTA! The staff are Japanese and the food is authentic, with ingredients sourced from Japan. They have an a la carte menu as well but I would highly recommend going with the omakase option and reserve a seat at the bar so you can watch the chef in action. I really enjoyed the mix of appetizers paired with the traditional nigiri sushi. Everything tasted fresh and I would happily come back again.

Came here for lunch with my aunt and uncle and enjoyed the dinner sushi set. The sushi was fresh and good. The foie grois sushi was the bomb. Our waitress was super nice too.

The good: I would like to give this a solid 4.5 stars. The price per person is $95, which is very reasonable compared to other places in Toronto. And a bonus point that it's in Richmond Hill, you don't need to travel far for an authentic experience :) The set is complete, with 2 appetizers, 11 pieces and dessert. They also note on their menu that their fish is flown from Japan. The staff are also Japanese. The service is friendly and attentive as they promptly refilled my tea. The wait for the next dish was never long and everything was served at a good pace. Last but not least, their ambiance! It is a cozy place with maybe room for 15-20 at the front. The sushi bar fitted around 8 people. To my surprise when I went to the washroom, there were more booth style seating at the back. However, if you'd like to see the sushi master in action, I highly recommend the sushi bar. The bad or needs improvement: I'd love to have a multi-set appetizer and dessert. Wish they had more than than the 2 bites!

This is my third time at this restaurant. I brought my parents here to celebrate both their belated birthdays. The food still doesn't disappoint me, and my parents loved it. The service was great, always coming, making sure we were good, and asking if we enjoyed the food. The place wasn't too loud, so people could still talk to one another. We ordered the Toshi Course, which is the Omakase. The price for it wasn't too expensive, so I do recommend giving this place a try. They always serve what they have, whether it's fresh or seasonal.

One of the best sushi restaurants in Richmond hill, a real hidden gem If you know you know kind of place... almost didn't want to leave this review because it's getting busier and busier Delicious food all around omakase dinners and even a la carts for lunch!

Phenomenal Omakase experience. Sitting at the bar, served by the very owner and head chef himself, my girls and I had a phenomenal experience. Attentive, friendly, customer focused, amazing experience. Food... wow. Amazing. Ordered the sushi course which consisted of Tsukidashi, chef choice of 11 pc nigiri sushi, handroll/roll of fresh fish selection of the day, small noodles bowl & dessert this experience is definitely worth coming back for. Though on the pricey side $75, I would 100% come back. The nigiri is fresh, each piece with a new introductory complimentary taste whether it be ginger, or fresh fish flakes, fish eggs... you can tell the fresh authenticity and love he pours into each piece. Ordered side roll, and tempura appetizer to split with a friend at dinner as well. If you've never tried an omakase experience, grab a reservation at the bar and enjoy!!!!!! 5/5! Located in a strip plaza with a Freshco as an anchor this unassuming restaurant is authentic in decor and food. We came on a Friday night just before 7 and 30 minutes later the place was full. The restaurant is not that big, there is seating by the sushi bar and a small seating area at the front. Booth seating is down the back of the restaurant. There are 4 booths for seating for 4. Reservations are recommended. This is not a place to come to if you want an endless list of different types of rolls. They have the standard of California and Dynamite and Futomaki but it ends there...nothing with cream cheese etc. The lunch menu is different and seems to have more options. Portions are on the smaller size. On the night we came there were 2 servers and service was slow. We ordered a couple of white fish rolls and the rice was so warm that the roll came apart and the fish was slightly fishy. Meal did not end on a high note. It's a lovely place if you want authentic.

This place was so good and inexpensive compared to other omakase/sushi places. I am from the US and so I didn't know where to go but I found this little gem and it was amazing. The staff was super nice and friendly. I read some of the reviews and someone said they were too slow but omakases are usually that way especially with a small restaurant with limited staff. I enjoyed it fully and every thing was so delicious. I brought my friends and it was group of 9 and they brought everything out together. I loved the vibe and it felt very traditional.

We came here on a weekend for dinner. We tried their sushi course. The sushi were fresh and tasty. The quality of the fish was great compared to its price. I particularly like the fried shrimp head. It was very crunchy. The foie gras sushi melted in your mouth. It was a good dining experience overall. The restaurant is small with 5-6 tables plus sushi bar. It was full on the weekend. Reservation is highly recommended. Maybe because of the size of the restaurant, I find it a bit too hot. I was sweating during my meal. Hence, minus one star. I'll definitely come back when I crave for quality sushi and don't wanna drive far.

Location/Service This place is located in the plaza intersection of Major Mackenzie and Leslie - the same spot where FreshCo is located. Plenty of parking available around the plaza. Interior of this place is small, but not crammed. There is a bar table and in-dining tables available, probably for about 25-30 guests - so definitely best to call in for reservations to secure a spot. Decorations and design are pretty standard to a modern Japanese layout. Staff were very nice and they explain in detail on every food item that was served. Food I signed up for the Toshi Course, which is a omakase of 11 nigiri sushi, sashimi, 2 appetizers, hand roll, noodles and dessert for about $90. It's not as expensive as a I thought and it definitely filled up my appetite. Sitting by the bar table, you can witness all the sushi pieces come to plate. All the food were very fresh, high in quality and generous in quantity slices. I particularly enjoyed the fatty tuna and eel. The noodles and dessert was great as well. Overall eating experience took about 1 to 1.5 hr, so you don't feel rushed and you also feel it's enjoyable. I like how interactive it is with the chef and definitely recommend for those wanting to try reasonably priced omakase.

The restaurant is super quiet and they offer great quality of food with great service, and the price is expensive if you choose to order sukiyaki set (expect $80+ per person). You can choose between sushi sets at different price level or sukiyaki from the menu. This suits the need of our group given some people prefer sushi but some couldn't eat raw food. They also offer a couple of limited appetizer dishes such as tempuras and unagi don. If you booked the sukiyaki table and want to order sushi, you need to call them in advance to notify which sushi sets you want. We tried the sashimi and sushi courses at $55, which included miso soup, 5 pieces of sashimi, 8 pieces of sushi (squid, toros, salmon, scallop etc.), handroll and matcha or black sesame icecream at your choice. The sushi is smaller than average, suitable for small eaters. The course is totally worth the money. I love every piece of sashimi and my favourite sushi include the scallop and the squid. Everything was super fresh. The dessert was also having the perfect sweetness level for me. In addition, we also tried the sukiyaki for two ($110), which includes mushrooms, cabbages, great quality of Angus beef, yummy tofu and udon. Again, all the material was with great quality and super fresh. I especially liked the sweet sukiyaki soup, the tofu and the udon. We also ordered some shareable dishes including chawanmushi, unagi don and cod. Cod was cooked to perfect (soft and flavourful), and unagi don had quite decent portion. It would be better if the unagi could be softer from my personal opinion. Chawanmushi was mediocre. Overall, I strongly recommend this restaurant to fan of Japanese cuisine. It meets different people's needs by offering both cooked and raw food options, and the sushi set definitely has great value for money.

That's because every other guest was a well-known "regular" -- a very good sign. We were ushered through the tranquil restaurant and seated at the sushi bar, a zen ambience. We chose the $55 sushi+sashimi omakase lunch course, and it didn't disappoint. The eight pieces of nigiri featured a somewhat typical selection of fish (and hotate/scallop), but slightly edgy and unique in the choice of seasoning and flavours, prepared by Chef Takinami with all the pomp and ceremony and you would expect from fine omakase. The pacing was excellent, we never felt rushed from piece to piece; the wait staff were attentive as would be expected from a high-end Japanese restaurant, on par with omakases that cost three times as much. Overall, incredible value on the meal, for both the food and experience. We couldn't help but look around at what the regulars were enjoying (in addition to their omakase nigiri) -- botan ebi nigiri with deep fried shrimp heads, chawanmushi, cooked dishes featuring monk fish livers, tempura appetizers and more... some great ideas for our next visit!

Ordered tempura vegetables and shrimp with 6 pieces total was only around $9. This tempura tasted truly delicious compared to other pricier restaurants! They were very accommodating with changing spicy salmon roll to dynamite roll in the dinner sushi sets for me since I don't eat spicy food.
