Father has his heating/boiler system repaired 12/16/21 - Came out and Charged $710 for replaced a part (vent damper). During the night, the system failed, contacted Master Tech, they had somebody out in a few hours, but changed him another $95. Seems to be working now - but should not have had to pay another $95 - should have been repaired on the initial visit. Our hot water heater for the pool stopped working. master tech came out and said it is the ignitor.replaced it and left. I told him i dont think that was the problem. He told me that there is a warrenty on the work that was done and if there is a problem to just call back . 2 hours later it was not working. called them back out, different tech said it is only the flame sensor cleaned it and it works. They are still saying I owe them for the ignitor that they installed that didnt fix anything. all that it needed was a flame sensor cleaning I would not use these people unless you want to get charged hundreds of dollars for parts and service that is not needed. Use caution when dealing with this company. We agreed to move forward with an online proposal ( no on-sight visit) as we thought this company was a sub contractor of ABT . We discovered there was no association with ABT and canceled our order in less than 18 hours of an online only quote . We called them and asked to talk to the owners and our calls were never returned. They immediately threatened us with legal action if we did not pay a $ 375.00 cancellation fee which we ultimately paid just to settle the matter . They made no attempt to work with us but we're very threatening. read more

ZERO STARS - refusal to honor warrantee/WORST PLACE/took original part without authorization/price gauging due to extreme temperatures TL;DR: Avoid this place at all costs, unless the piles of cash you have lying around are getting too large, and you need to get rid of them by paying to make your furnace run worse than it was with the "broken" part, or you enjoy being yelled at and insulted. I paid over $1000 for the "replacement" of an inducer motor, and was left with a furnace that was still broken. Glossary of Terms (MasterTech) Diagnostics: actually means: "Coming to your door fee" Warrantee: actually means: Calling in with an issue, just to be told you just like request unnecessary service visits just to "feel better" 100% Parts Cost: actually means: "15% parts/85% hidden labor charges" Issue: our furnace was blowing cold air instead of hot air. I scheduled the appointment with MasterTech and was given a 3-hour time window (11am-2pm). The technician, Chris, arrived within this time frame, but instead of ringing the doorbell or simply knocking on the door, he called and complained angrily we didn't come to the door in under 2 minutes. I didn't realize MasterTech expects the customer to wait at the door for the entire 3-hour time window. After a briefly working with the furnace, the technician says "ooohhhhh....it's looking pretty bad" and lets me know one of the two motors needs to be replaced, but says it would be difficult to find a place that is open and carries the part, so an extra $175 fee would have to be assessed for the technician to get the part from a town 20 minutes away (conveniently, where his next job is). This was the only part available in all of northern Illinois, apparently. After the extreme pressure to "make a decision in the next few minutes, or be left without heat all weekend, and risk the furnace causing a house-destroying fire", I decided to go ahead with the repair. Total labor came out to approx. $900 for replacement of an inducer motor. I guess this is the upcharge when you need repairs on a cold day. I asked several times for the parts vs. labor breakout, but kept being told "the part is $800 itself, since it is high-efficiency, and those are more expensive". I only found out after I had paid the part itself was under $200, and labor was approx. $900. The technician leaves to go to his other call, and comes back 3 hours later with the part. After a 15-minute installation, the technician finishes and says everything should be good to go. I ask (for the 3rd time) if there are any other issues with the furnace, and if I should expect it to operate well after the repair. I am told it will work "like-new", and the technician leaves. Several hours later, the furnace is barely able to maintain a temperature 10*F less than it was (with a broken part!). I wait a bit more, to give MasterTech the benefit of the doubt, and it still does not increase more. In the middle of the night, the furnace goes out again (as it had been going out before the service visit). The furnace outages continued the next day as well. I gave it even more time, but even now, after 48 hours, the furnace is still nowhere close to keeping up with the furnace with the previous/broken motor, and is still blowing cold/barely warm air, and going out intermittently. Approx. 7 hours after the installation, I called in to MasterTech customer service. When explaining the issue, the customer service rep (CSR), kept asking "so, you're saying the furnace is working, right?" Also, I was met with rude/yelled responses such as, "but it is blowing air!!! HOW ARE YOU SAYING ITS NOT WORKING?!?!?!" MasterTech did offer to send out a technician, but warned me it would be at my expense. I requested warrantee service, but was again denied, unless I continued to pay them more. I am not sure why the visit should be at my expense, since the furnace was working better BEFORE the repair. Although the paperwork says MasterTech offers a 90-day warrantee on labor, the technician said labor was covered for 1-year. When I would start to speak, I was interrupted with, "Well hold on...I think I'm the service provider here...so I'm not sure how you could POSSIBLY offer any solutions". I tried calling again the next day, and received the same response, refusal to honor the warrantee and refusal to return the original part they took out. At this point, MasterTech is refusing to honor their warrantee, and basically came out here to make some quick money, and made my furnace problem worse. Another item to note: the technician/truck were labeled "Carrier", so this place might have had to change their name at some point. read more

My furnace went out - $65 service fee, the tech said we needed to replace the circuit board and the part was $650. I looked online the part was $120. I said I would pay $300, he laughed in my face. This is the first review I have done. My intention is to save anyone from being overcharged for services Not rendered. I had the Master tech service person out to Clean two units. He had to call the manufacture to get the unit back running. Never took apart the burners to clean them ? I did not feel good about him doing the second one, so opted not to. I calle dthe office to ask their proceedure of clening and I was told the only take apart the "Older Ones". I had them back out because now it was blowing cold air. They sent out the best tech. He could not figure out the problem, borrowed my shopvac and charged me $300.00. Said he had to go back and research. I called ABT, who came out and Cleaned it by taking apart the burners and brushing them clean. It worked great. More cost effective, more knowledgeable. Could not get through to the owner to discuee, the person answering hung up on me. I would not use them to change my battery in my thermostate. I have to give this review, and do not want other people fall into a trap. I had water heater problem last Saturday, my water heater is only 4 years old. I called master tech for help, I got their number from yellow page, and because advertising, their number is on top of yellow page. The guy over the phone said trip charge $95, and it is OK with me. After 30 minutes, a tech guy came and took a look of water heater. He said we need change a new part and total cost $415. He said he can fix it in 45 minutes. I need take a shower and it was Saturday late night so I agreed their price. The tech guy went to his truck, I thought he would bring a new part, but he came back with just tools. This raised my concern so I watched what he would do. He did not intend to change any part under my watch. Then he called his company, asking for a new part, told me he does not have part with him. The earliest he can fix is Monday. I could not wait so I asked him to put back existing part to my water heater. Before he left, he asked me to put $415 deposit, so he can order part and install it on Monday. My thought is my water heater is only 4 years old, might just need cleaning, we do not need change a new part. So I only paid him $95, and he left. After he left, I personally relighted the water heater, and after 1 hour, I had hot water again. And after 5 days, I still have hot water. So my thought is right, the water heater just needs cleaning, not a new part. So I give one star review, other people will not fall this comany's trap. If cleaning can do the job, why cheat customer with high charge and pretend change a new part. Be very careful with this company. read more

Don't believe what you are told by their service technicians. The technician who visited my house promised (in writing) to refund the payment for parts he suspected might be faulty, during the diagnosis process. After new part was replaced, the problem persisted. The technician left my house without ever successfully bringing the system back in service. He left my house with the unit in lock-out mode (i.e., as such the unit cannot be further tested) and insisted that the new part should still be put in place so that when the system comes out of the lock-out mode, the unit can restart. THE UNIT NEVER RESTARAT!!. The company refuse to refund the payment for the part that never been used because it's NOT proven the fault was due to the part replaced. I winded out paying them service fee without knowing the cause of the problem and paying the part that I have no good use. Worst of all, the technician took my old part without my consent when he left my house. read more

Worst customer service ever.... had a technician come out to service our furnace that was leaking water. The technician replaced the pump and said problem was solved. Three weeks later the same problem was still happening. The technician came out and said he wasn't sure where it was coming from. Charged me $77.25 for absolutely nothing. I called them and asked what i was being charged for. The response was a service call. Really? The technician did not fix the issue and i have to wonder if the pump was even bad At this point. Last Sunday evening traveling back home, I received that dreaded call - the AC is out and it's already 90 in the house!! I scanned the local area and found that Master Tech was around the corner... I called Monday morning, and someone was able to come out almost right away! Ryan arrived to check out the old unit and we mutually agreed that this 17 year old unit was fried. He was able to get a new unit, probably twice the capacity and much more efficient (and much lower in cost then I expected )To my door at 7am the next morning!! He arrived with the team of technicians at 7am and by 9a.... the house was perfectly cooled. My husband and I scheduled an appointment on Monday for a tech to come to our house, had a tech come by Tues to give us the quote on the installation and by Weds 11am had a brand-new air condition system completely installed at my house. The price was great and the service techs were professional. The only negative comment I have pertains to the coupons I found on-line. There was a coupon with a "200$ off any installation" available, I searched the website to find the terms and conditions but they weren't listed anywhere. So, when I spoke with the Rep on the phone he stated it was only for heating installations. I found the coupon on-line during the middle of our conversation and asked why it said "any installation". His response was then well it's for another package of air conditioning unit installation that I wasn't receiving. It felt very shady and seemed like an unobtainable coupon. Since I am writing this only an hour after the installation was complete, I intend on following up with this review if I have any further negative or positive experiences. read more

Will not be using this company ever again. During this extreme cold spell, our heat went out and when the tech called us we were told they don't work on the ice that was frozen in our exhaust pipe. Told us to thaw it and then try and see if the furnance works. Highly disappointed. I understand they are running a business but charging $320 to install a $25 part seems a bit exorbitant. If there was an option for a ten star review they would get it. My hot water heater which they installed in 2017 developed a leak. They came immediately to check it out and replaced it under warranty. This was the Wednesday before Thanksgiving. My water was hot for 30 - 60 seconds and then would cool down to luke warm so I called on Thanksgiving and requested service for Friday. They came and the tech was on the phone with Bradford White for about 45 minutes and they determined nothing was wrong with the water heater and the issue had to be something else. I honestly did not believe him. He said it could be a mixer valve on one my faucets that was causing cold water only to flow through the system. I very reluctantly agreed to them returning on Monday to take a look. Afraid that they were going to tell me that I needed an expensive repair that wasn't necessary, I called my nephew who is in the trades to see if he knew of any plumber that he could run this scenario by. He did and I was assured that this was in fact a very real possibility. Ryan arrived on Monday and traced the hot water pipes through the crawl space (not a pleasant job) and determined that the water return pipe was blocked. Master Tech is not a reliable company which misdiagnosed our furnace issue. After getting a second opinion, it turns out it was the flame sensor, not the inducer motor for exhaust. I just have master tech replaced two AC unit two weeks ago and I can't be more happier with them. I called them up on Monday asking some quotes and the Monday night we have decided to use them. ( We got few quotes from different company.) They price was great ( we got American Standard ones). They came out on Wednesday to start the job and finished on Thursday. They acted FAST. This past week my furnace was acting up. We decided to replace it rather than fix it. I went online looking up furnaces and comparing brands and reviews. My head was spinning not really sure what to go with. I had used Master Tech in the past for annual cleanings. I had a positive experience with them , so I called them. So happy I did. Marcus came out within an hour of my call. He was so nice, he explained everything in layman terms. He wasn't pushy at all. He answered all our questions. I really appreciated his honesty. The two models I was interested in, he went so far as to tell us expected repair costs if need be. Something you should keep in mind even when buying something brand new. He really helped us to make an educated decision on which one to pick. He even temporarily fixed our old one so it wasn't so cold in the house. Great customer service! Two days later Ryan and his crew came to replace it. They were on time. They were very respectful of my house. They laid clean tarps down. I was very impressed four young guys, serious about their work. I didn't hear any chit chat just working! They were finished in just under four hour (typical time frame). They cleaned up their mess. Ryan showed me how to operate the new thermostat. It is a day later, so far so good. The new furnace is very quiet. I also wanted to point out MT offers a 12 year warranty rather than the standard 10 year. Something else to keep in mind when doing your research. MT really made this all stress free. I found Ryan through a mutual friend on Facebook. He sat there on a Thursday night and instant messaged with me about my air conditioning issues. He had a guy out there the next day (I am in Chicago, so it was not an easy trip.) Mark diagnosed the problem immediately and assured me it would be an easy fix. Keep in mind, I know NOTHING about AC repair, so if he said I needed a whole new system, I would have done it. Mark had the piece in his truck and installed it in minutes on the roof of the building. He even explained what he was doing in case it happened to me again. The cost was significantly less than I expected and my AC runs perfectly. Well...I can't give a "0" so 1 star it is. I've used this company since August of 2009. It was a new, local company so I gave the the winning bid to install a furnace (Goodman) and condenser to Master Tech which were installed 08/2009. All was good, had a few service calls over the years but no big deal. Call for help and they always answered. Service tech was always on time. This past Friday (01/25/2019) I called for service due to a low temperature reading. Tech came out and after a lengthy time I was informed that my heat exchange needed replacement. The cost would be $2,000.00 or I can get a new furnace installed for $3,500. I had to pick myself up off the floor and my wife and I decided on a new furnace. The tech "unclogged" a drain tube before leaving and the furnace has been running like a champ since. So...Saturday (01/26/2019) after my head had cleared, I pulled all my paperwork and looked at my contract with M.T. and the manufacturer warranty. To my amazement I have a 10 year parts and labor contract with M.T. and after calling the manufacturer I learned that my heat exchange is warrantied for LIFE. Master Tech NEVER mentioned my warranty (theirs or the manufacturer). I called for and received a second opinion. This tech actually did a "clean and check" with me present. He showed me the process and even explained the nomenclature of the furnace. As part of his "clean and check" he pulled the blower and motor, crawled in and visually looked at the heat exchange (lower unit). He did a thorough check of my furnace (best I've ever seen) and in the end gave me a few suggestions. Upper heat exchange is going bad (some rust around flame intake), CO test showed .000 so still functioning. Lower heat exchange was in great shape. He told me he would replace heat exchange if it would make me feel better. Since the part is under warranty my cost would be 1/4th of the quote from Master Tech. Additionally, he said he could get a new furnace with the same or better ratings as my current furnace and install for approximately $1,300 less than the quote from Master Tech. I have some other issues related to warranty contract but not enough time to put here...Bottom line, they started out as a great company that I recommended but now.... read more

Our a/c broke on Saturday the day before my wife's baby shower (pretty high stress situation) and Ryan came to the rescue to fix it temporarily (and didn't take advantage of us knowing we were obviously desperate), then two days later came back with a crew and replaced our a/c, furnace and water heater. My general contractor was there as well and he is generally very critical of any one else who does work on our house. This was the first time my contractor gave another craftsman his 100% endorsement. Ryan and his crew took pride in their work. They went the extra mile to make sure everything was done right.
