I hired them to clean up some maples that had gotten really overgrown, trim branches away from the house and fence lines, and general tree clean up. I also asked that they cut back as much as possible from my neighbor's awful 40' pear that grew over my fence line, and then a huge chunk of it died. I was afraid that it would destroy my deck in the first wind storm. Tom was very responsive - he was able to come by and quote the work quickly. Today, he and his colleague showed up on time. Being an arborist, he was able to provide valuable information on our trees and walk us through the necessary photos and information for permits to remove trees in a residential area. Tom and his assistant were careful around utilities when stump grinning. He was safe and neat when cutting limbs and trees. When all was complete, everything and more was cleaned up and it looked like the trees had never been in the location. We were impressed with his work and price. My husband found Master Tree Care, Inc. on Angie's List and began working with arborist, Tom Bartels. His customer service is impeccable. He's very knowledgeable, response time is good and very patient with my plethora of questions. We scheduled him and his crew to come out today to do corrective pruning on two of our large Japanese Maple trees. In addition, we decide to have a Blue Spruce and three Dwarf Evergreen trees removed along with an oak stump. It was amazing watching how they cut the tree down and the level of detail - very hard work. They were really easy to work with and even cleaned up our yard after they were done. I felt the pricing was very reasonable and we received a 10% off first time through Angie's List. We plan to work with them again in the Fall to trim 70+ Arborvitae, tighten up the canopy on the Japanese Maples and probably take down our Monterey Pine. I highly recommend them. We just completed another project with Master tree care Inc. Owner Tom Bartels has been providing services for our Home (2 acres of mature fir trees) periodically for the last 20 years. In addition,he has provided services for our multiple rental properties (large tree removals, stump grinding, consulting advice, etc.). He,s always on time, and leaves our properties looking great. One of the extras he has done is contacting the neighbor property owners to let them know in advance what the plans are, especially if we are trimming their landscape that has encroach onto ours. Horrible experience. Difficult to work with--we had the removal permit, and he came before he was scheduled and left without doing the work. Couldn't reschedule for a couple of weeks, then came before the meeting time (after my husband confirmed with him at 7:30 am on the scheduled date) and left without doing the work AGAIN. I read all of Tom Bartels reviews before I hired him to remove two thirty year old maple trees including grinding the stumps and pruning several trees. What sealed the deal for me was the the fact that he was an arborist with a small crew who did the cutting himself. Reviews stated that he had an aesthetic eye for pruning which was so true and the reason I kept expanding the scope of what I wanted him to do. He came out quickly to give me a bid, was very patient with my questions and not pushy. The crew not only cleaned up my yard but also the neighbors. I watched in amazement as he took down the limbs of a huge Silver maple with only ropes without ruining my 30 yr old fragile fence. He also managed to grind the stump on this giant whose root system had raised my fence and grown over my original irrigation system. My newer irrigation system survived the stump grinding without a problem. In conclusion, I highly recommend Tom Bartels, he is competitively priced and a great value for his expertise. read more
