Long overdue review. I had a huge tree limb fall onto my neighbors roof during the ice storm that occurred at the end of December. I called a few places and most of the companies I called were unable to help us in a timely manner. Jeremy with the assistance Frank (scheduler) were able to put us on the schedule within the week and his bid was considerably less than the others. Requested a bid on tree removal of a compromised tree and a stump from storm damage to be ground. They responded quickly, came out for a bid and promptly sent it back to me. The bid was very reasonable and every interaction I had with this family owned business was great. Excellent communication. They even showed up a little early to provide the service. The crew was pleasant, efficient and cleaned up afterwards. After they left, I noticed that there was slight damage to our gate entrance. I emailed them with photos, I wasn't upset because stuff happens. A couple of days later, Jeremy showed up and fixed the gate perfectly with a great attitude! I am impressed! Pete went out to look at the job and then told me he was writing three proposals. I told him the only proposal I wanted to hear was the neighbor with the trees were responsible for the cost of their trees being removed. He never got back to me after that. I messaged his office numerous times with NO response. The last message sent, I asked her to just let me know one way or another if he was interested in continuing the conversation about him trimming my side of the trees, or not. Again, no response. A simple "He's not interested in talking to you" would have been fine. read more

Urban Timber is excellent! They assisted us through permitting and removal of 5 huge pine trees in close proximity to our house. Their quote and final price was the best of the 3 we obtained, by far! Half the cost compared to one of the competing quotes. Professionally completed from start to finish, on a day that it was raining the majority of the day. They expertly utilized a crane to cut segments of each tree, starting from the top...then immediately moving it to the ground. From there another crew took off all the limbs and ran them through a chipper. The logs were loaded onto a separate trailer. The ice/snow storm got me. I thought Id made it with no damage, but unfortunately I had a spruce tree in the back yard that was leaning. I called some places, Urban came by today to give an estimate (which was nearly half the first one I got from another company). They said it should be dropped immediately and that they would schedule the clean up when they could schedule it. They had someone out in three hours or so and they dropped the tree before it could damage anything. I couldnt watch because the wind was coming up and the tree was swaying. It came down with no problem. I am so grateful for their lets get it done attitude and a willingness to work with me. Id recommend these guys in a flat minute. read more

Jeremy at Urban Timber Tree Service was prompt estimating the job, came in significantly lower than others, and his crew did a fantastic job! Duncan fell a dead black pine tree and ground down the stump, pruned a honey locust tree and trimmed a really overgrown Japanese pine bush . Others said they could not save that Japanese pine bush that had overgrown it's area. Duncan was able to trim the bush into a really cute pine tree. I was pleasantly shocked! I loved that bush but like this new form even better and can now access my driveway safely. I don't often recommend services, but I gladly recommend Urban Timber Tree Service. read more

I couldn't be more pleased with the service -- from the estimation and the work that was done. He came and snap some photos and told me he'll ask the city if he needs a permit and he'll get back to me with an estimate. Next day I got an email and it was reasonable priced. In January urban timber came out and trimmed 4 of the trees in my yard. Toward the end of August with no storms from the weather, Only 7 months later, The tree that I asked them to trim, check for health, and make it safe for the yard had some serious damage and issues as you can see by the photos. When I contacted them they said it wasn't their fault. No discounts full charge to remove! Hmmm... several thousand dollars to trim and 7 months later remove, I don't think so! read more

I had a tree on my property line that was sandwiched between my fence and my neighbor's fence. The branches were beginning to touch my siding and the fences were starting to bow, so I knew I had to call for an expert's advice. I contacted Urban Timber Tree Service and Jeremy showed up and quickly identified the species. Unfortunately, the tree was going to grow to be much larger than it currently was and had to be removed. After getting permission from my neighbor due to its location, I scheduled the work with Urban Timber Tree Service. They originally had my project a week out. However, they called me and said that they were able to come out and get the work done earlier. I was actually at lunch when they came by, so, like tree-removing ninjas, I came home to find the tree gone, the section of fence they removed to access the tree securely placed against my deck, and the stump bare for them to return and grind the next day. The next day they came by to finish the work and re-attached my fence like professionals. Excellent service, great communication, and all for a pretty reasonable price. read more

In early September I had them trim some trees ...I went for a walk when I can back they had knocked out my power line, ripped a shingle off the roof and damaged part of my fence. Everyone on-site apologized and said they would be responsible for the damage that had happened ...people make mistakes and I wasn't to mad...the owner Jeremy I believe went to my house and said it's "pge fault" because the power line was to low!!?? Even if that was true why did that their worker drive their truck right into the power line ??? They should have stopped and said we can't do this work until the power line is lifted ....they took no responsibility for their mistake ...they took a small portion of their bill ...which I just paid ...I had to have someone fix the roof and fence they damaged ..warning to anyone if they do any damage they will not accept responsibility.... read more

After the ice storm here in Portland in mid-February, we had damage to our row of tall arborvitae, large branches that fell from a neighbor's tree onto our gate, and damage to a smaller willow tree. I had gotten the names of some tree companies from my daughter and, after checking them out, contacted Urban Timber. They stopped by within a few days of my call to review the damage and give me an estimate. They then set up a date of April 6 to do the work required. Everything was on schedule and on budget. My wife's comment was that their work on the arborvitae "exceeded her expectations". Everything was cleaned up nicely afterwards too- Chad and his crew did a great job and all the communication with Sydney in coordinating and confirming the schedule went very well. We called so many companies and got some really crazy prices and opinions, was about to give up and hope our old dying cedars didn't fall on the house when I saw an Urban Timber truck on the freeway. Called em up, received a quote within a day. Jeremy answered all my questions and explained why we couldn't save the trees, he was the first person I talked to that sounded reasonable, knew what he was talking about, and quoted a price that wasn't crazy pants. My fear of having a wind or ice storm this year prompted me to take pre-emptive action to protect possible damages to my home and to my neighbors home. I figured that "topping out" my two trees would provide ample protection. Urban Timber's estimator, Matt, talked me into trimming, rather than topping. I was overly concerned that trimming my tall Sweet Gum tree would not solve the problem...thus, rather than to chance a $950 trimming I opted to completely remove this tree at a cost of $2925. I felt that a trimming of the second tree ($650) would be sufficient enough to protect both my property and my neighbor's property. I showed Matt the various overhangs of the project from both my property and from the my neighbors side of the fence. In order to make the job easier I told Matt the my neighbor had agreed to let them to come onto his property to setup any necessary equipment. I even told Matt that I would remove any necessary sections of my fence in order to accommodate the project. Well, Matt wrote out a contract...II "assumed" that that wording in his contract of "corrective prune as necessary" referred to getting the job done to protect both properties. But, when the work crew showed up they immediately informed me that they would NOT be trimming of the limbs situated over my neighbors house. (Hmmmm...that was the WHOLE purpose of hiring them!) Now, Urban Timber did subsequently agree to do the necessary trimming, if time allowed. But, then their main piece of equipment broke down, erasing any hope of getting the job done properly. The crew did managed to successfully remove tree number one, the Sweet Gum tree, along with leaving three cracks in my sidewalk. Then they merely left....Tree number two remains completely untrimmed. Note...I asked Duncan twice if they would be trimming the second tree...in both instances he said..."we'll pass on that." The next day I confirmed, with Duncan, the precise invoice price of $2768.25 for the Sweet Gum tree, once in the morning and again at the conclusion of his cleanup. He said that he would immediately inform the office that the removal of the Sweet Gum tree had been completed...I told him that I would wait an hour...then I would call to pay the invoice. When I called, the office told me that no invoice had yet been prepared...they scrambled around and eventually sent invoice which included the tree which they never touched. WHAT! When I called to find out what in the heck was going on I was told that they would not accept my payment of $2768.25 and that I would have to wait for the following Monday to have this straightened out. Now, I was eventually able to pay the invoice. BUT still...the original project of providing adequate storm protection has NOT been completed. I had a subsequent conversation with the owner of the company, Jeremy. It was a fruitless conversation as he took the point of view that Matt was a true professional and that he knew exactly what he was doing. Jeremy had complete deaf ears on my insistence that they simple did NOT do the job which I was hiring them to perform. He offered no resolution. Bottom line...if you ever use Urban Timber, ask for an estimator other than Matt. He does what he wants, rather than what the customer wants or needs. Or even better...if you want to avoid problems with a company which appears to have deaf ears, don't use Urban Timber at all. My experience equals a negative review of 1 Star. read more
