I attended a holiday dinner tonight that was prepared by Masterpiece Cuisine. What a joke! The catering was dismal, as was the food. The SCA Italian Club threw a holiday party for its members and because the party was held on site at Sun City Anthem, the club was forced by contract to use Masterpiece Catering for the party. Since we were a captive audience, it felt like Masterpiece put forward less effort than required to provide a professional event. The party cost $65 and was poorly executed from the very beginning. The first course was a salad that was literally swimming in dressing! It was like "Do you want a little salad with your dressing?" and not the other way around. Next came the entrees. There were two selections of protein, beef or fish. Unacceptably, Masterpiece served all of the beef dishes first and THEN served all of the fish dishes. This meant that half of the guests at our table had food FIFTEEN minutes before the other half. What a disgrace! Now a word about the quality of the entrees. Everyone at our table said that their food was cold. Every single person. Nobody wants to eat cold beef or shrimp! I ordered the shrimp with linguini. The shrimp were boiled and then thrown into a very watery sauce. Any good Italian knows that pasta should NEVER have a watery sauce! (This was the Italian Club party, after all.) The asparagus garnish was also pathetic - it was limp and droopy! So was the broccoli rabe on the meat dish. See photos below. A last observation on Masterpiece's service is that they started breaking down the tables while the party was still going on. They cleared our water glasses while we were on the dance floor! So thirsty dancers had nothing to drink. I guess that Masterpiece wanted to save money and dismiss their staff as soon as they could. With all of the above issues, my best guess is that Masterpiece "cheaped out" on having enough staff to run food to the tables while it was hot. Or possibly, they don't have the organizational sense to plan for a party of 200 people. Either way, I sincerely hope that Masterpiece and Sun City Anthem take serious steps to improve their food and catering! Update: We attended another party that was catered by Masterpiece this week. They did improve their service, but are still lacking. Masterpiece served rolls, but no plates for the rolls. Guests were forced to put their rolls on the extremely wrinkled tablecloths. (See photo.) Meeting friends for dinner and conversation, we wanted to stay local and support a restaurant that opened in our neighborhood - Masterpiece Cuisine. The buffet is open from 4 - 7 PM, the bar from 3 to 7 PM. When you enter, you line up to order from the woman at the "hostess" stand. Hostess is in quotes because she only takes your order and payment. Then she tells you to find your own table. You can order the "buffet" or off the menu. The night we were there the buffet listed beef tips, mashed potatoes, and carrots and zucchini. Ordering the "buffet" for $17 allows you to serve yourself only one pass from the 4 warming trays, two with the mashed potatoes, one with the veggies, and one with cubes of beef tips. That had to be the most unappetizing display of food on a display in a restaurant that I have ever seen. The night we were there they also had a menu you order from instead of the "buffet." They offered a cheeseburger ($16), pan seared salmon ($18), or chicken broccoli Alfredo. We arrived at 5 PM so ordering off the menu should be no problem. WRONG! At 5 PM, we were told they were sold out of the salmon. I went with the hamburger and fries. The burger had a piece of lettuce, 2 slices of Romano tomato, melted cheese, and some slices of raw red onion on a flavorless bun. It came with a serving of about 2 tablespoons of catsup for the fries. Want more catsup? Too bad. There are no servers roaming the restaurant to help. Want a glass of water. Get it yourself from a plastic cup. The restaurant does have a great view of the valley. I wish them luck - but I certainly won't be coming back. read more

We got married at the Mob Museum this past weekend and that's how we were set up with Masterpiece. Our first experience with them was a tasting when we were in town. Service started at the top! I had my wedding catered by Masterpiece 1/1/2020 at a suite in Mandalay Bay. My husband is a Chef at prominent Steakhouse in LA so lets just say I have a very particular and defined pallet. We planned our wedding from CA, and Chris Lee at Masterpiece made it extremely easy and effortless for us! He is super friendly and polite, gave us menu suggestions, and is really quick and great with all communication. We had a budget in mind, and he really worked with us to get the best bang for our buck. Our Menu: Hor D'oeuvres - crab cakes, prosciutto wrapped asparagus, petite lobster club crostini, feta stuffed mushrooms Strawberry Walnut Salad Fire Roasted Vegetable Medley Roasted Garlic Mashed Potatoes Garlic Glazed Chicken Breast Lemon Basil Filet of Salmon Ravioli di Cheese We did a tasting about 3 months before the event and everything was delicious, except for the salmon, which was overcooked. Chris made a note of it on our event contract, but unfortunately, it was still a bit overcooked and dry during the reception, but everything else was delicious and our guests couldn't stop talking about the ravioli and the chicken! That was our favorites also, Ravioli di Cheese and Garlic Glazed Chicken Breast. We actually ran out of the ravioli but had a tray of chicken leftover and a couple of trays of salmon, which we pigged out on the dinner the day after, yum. The petite lobster crostini and feta stuffed mushrooms were really popular also. Our event captain, Corey, was absolutely amazing and did a fantastic job! He and our chef, Cain, met with us a couple of days before at the private estate where we held our wedding and reception and told us to have fun and they will take care of everything, and they certainly did! From small events to 275 guests, including my daughter's wedding reception, they consistently exceed even my high-bar expectations. From the Sales/Planning aspect through to Event Execution, I am always amazed how 'fined-tuned' MPC's entire operation is. To me, my event is an "OMG, I have to deliver". To MPC, it's very simple, strategic, "We got this." Last week, I saw another true masterpiece unveiled before my very eyes at my son's Baby Shower. WOW. Based on the small, actual event space we had to use, Chris Lee, Sales Guru, advised various seating and menu/serving options. He listened, many times to my vision, and synthesized that into what he knew I truly wanted. We decided on tray-passed, uniquely-presented Hors' D'oeuvres ongoing, with an expansive pasta table, an hour in, that was both visually impressive as well as scrumptious. I've had the pleasure of working with Masterpiece Cuisine on two occasions now. We have our quarterly board meetings catered with their Gourmet Express sandwiches/salads menu. In February, we ordered the All-American sandwich platter, with a farmer's market salad and fresh fruit platter. The fruit platter stole the show with a great variety of perfectly ripe, fresh fruits! I ordered food for 20 people and we had tons of leftovers. Unfortunately, the bread on a few of the sandwiches got pretty stale after a few hours, so that wasn't the best for leftovers. In May, we ordered the traditional deli platter, with the vegetable pasta salad and fresh fruit platter. The deli meats exceeded my expectations; they were thick, freshly carved, and very tender. The deli platter was more popular than the sandwich platter because it allowed people to make lettuce wraps or sandwiches, and the variety of breads were much softer. The pasta salad was also surprisingly sophisticated, with artichoke and other good veggies. The staff at Masterpiece Cuisine is top-notch. Both deliveries were right on time, with courtesy calls about an hour in advance. The servers are very professional and tidy. Chris, the Sales Manager that coordinates our orders, is so friendly and always helpful! I ordered a dessert table for our 150 person wedding and barely got my hands on the desserts, they were such a hit! However the macaron and cookies that I WAS able to steal were DELICIOUS. I had multiple family members after the wedding ask me about the bakery that made the desserts!! They also made us a WONDERFUL MASCARPONE CAKE. It was *SO GOOD*. My fiance and I are making it a point to go back there and grab some more cake for our anniversary. It was decorated very cute and simple, which is exactly what I asked for.
