Great selection of beer. Bar tenders attentive friendly. Food service quick. Nice selection of great yummy food. We love the Brussels Sprouts nice portion for two almost don't need much else. Tried Mastiff happy hour after seeing it recommended on Nextdoor app. Nice, smaller restaurant/bar. Great variety of beers on tap. Ordered almost all the happy menu items at $5 each. The Brussel sprouts and mastiff fries were amazing. The bratwurst with sauerkraut is made in house and delightful. They have an interesting and affordable brunch menu I would take the kids back for and our server, Marianna, was spot on. I recommend giving this place a try! read more

Was visiting the area after moving away and wanted to give this place a try. Place is super casual with a large selection of beer on tap. As there were only two of us we sat at the bar, which is also full service. The food was delicious! My friend and I shared the mush love pizza and a double smash burger with a small side of fries. As hungry as we were, we couldn't finish our food and ended up taking home half the pizza (two slices). I'm hoping to try happy hour the next time I'm in town. read more

Delicious chicken Cesar salad. I wish I had taken a pic of it before I ate it, but it's got tons of yummy, fresh romaine hearts, very lightly dressed which I LOVE but some might like more but that's no problem. Piled onto the lettuce were delicious and tender grilled chicken chunks, giant, tasty, crunchy croutons, and lots of Parmesan slivers. Everything was balanced perfectly and the chicken was very tender, moist and easy to chew- not dry at all. I was 12 mins late for the lunch special which ends at 3pm but the cashier/bartender was kind enough to charge me for the lunch special rather than price the items individually- yikes! The other salads sound so delicious, too! It was a conundrum :) Very limited parking as all the residents of the new complexes are parking on the streets :( You'll probably have to take your chances in the Mastiff's small parking lot but it's not that crowded on the weekdays for sure. The ambiance is not what I'm used to as a local La Mesa resident of 26 years. I really like the murals that the old Craft Kitchen had. There are just random pics of random people and pets on the walls. I really liked the cozy, friendly, LOCAL vibe the old Craft Kitchen had but maybe this place will wow me as time goes by- it is cozy and friendly. I ordered the only dessert they had on the menu which is called an Ooey Gooey Skillet Cookie. Apparently it's a graham cracker cookie with Reese's pieces in it? I'm still not completely sure. It was sweet and ooey gooey but a little too rich for me. The vanilla ice cream on top helped temper the super sweetness. read more

we used to go to craft kitchen that was here previously. It had a bar atmosphere, but it was nice and warm inside and you just felt comfortable even though it's small. The new decor at mastiff makes it feel very plain and like I'm at a soup kitchen. we still thought we'd give it a shot and ordered some food. Not realizing that their pizza is a deep dish. Not what we were expecting at all, again it was OK. Not a fan of deep dish. Not sure that we would be going back since my kids staple was mac & cheese, which they don't offer at this new place. read more

Ordered take out the burgers were soggy but I could tell if they had put the sauces on the side instead it would've been better considering it was a takeout a order but not gonna knock 'em for that. We started eating at Mastiff kitchen ever since they were a food truck. It's nice to see how they've grown over the years. Their food still taste marvelous just like when they just started. They still put the care and quality in their food. This location is there stand alone restaurant and it seems like they added more food to the menu. They're known for their sausages but I also saw that they had some really good looking pizza. It was Wednesday evening when 5 of my friends and I came here to have some drinks and food. We started off with pork nuggets, their sampler sausage platter, and some brussel sprouts for vegetables. We put in our drink orders as well. Everything came out pretty quickly so we put in our entree orders as well. We got the Detroit sausage and pepper Pizza, smash sliders, sausage sandwich, classic Caesar, and a order of mastiff fries. Everything came out looking delicious. Their sausage is great as usual. The pizza was especially good, it it had a nice crispy crunch to the crust. Portions are great because we were all completely stuffed when the food was finished. I really like the customer service here, everyone is really nice and helpful. It looks like they're all enjoying their work. We do like the feel of the restaurants, it's really comfortable and everything looks real casual. read more

I'm rating this place for what it is and not a comparison to other places. We went during happy hour(3-6p daily). Location is fairly small with several tables and a bar. Was seated in about 10min but it was fairly busy. Ordering occurs as you get seated. Beer selection is pretty large(it didn't match up to the online list, but doesn't matter anyway). HH pricing for food was a steal. We got a salad item, wings, slider(which really was burger size), and an entire Detroit styler pep pizza. All the food was excellent but the wings stood out. Would come back for the pizza but you do have to like detroit style. For the above food and a few drinks, we walked out with ~50$ tab. Needless to say, we'll be back, especially during HH. read more

Always been a fan of Mastiff. Been to their north park and liberty station locations and have never been disappointed. So when I heard they were coming to La Mesa, my heart skipped a beat. I'm going to be a regular at this location, I can already tell. They've got something on the menu for everyone. We had to try the pizza, as this is a new menu item for them, and it did not disappoint. The S.O.P.s was a family favorite. So flavorful and delicious with the cheesiest crunchiest crust!!! And I'm still dreaming about their wings....and they still have all their other favorite menu items from their other locations!! They've got an amazing selection of draft beer (and seltzers) and had a really yummy wine selection. This is the perfect addition to La Mesa. They've got delicious food, great drinks, KID FRIENDLY, the inside has been updated and is super charming, and they had a really lovely staff. I can't wait to go back. read more
