I have been seeing Putri since 2019 (before she ventured out on her own and opened Matahari) and despite the fact that I have since moved out of the neighborhood and across the Bay to Oakland, I'm thrilled that I have been able to increase my frequency and consistency in seeing her.  That said, Putri never oversells me or tries to get me to come more often than needed; I treasure my ~quarterly appointments with her because they are both refreshing and relaxing. Quite the opposite of pushing me to book unnecessary treatments, Putri is so thoughtful and cost-conscious for her clients. She has done a (very small) spot-treatment peel on a stubborn sunspot as a courtesy during my facials, and she is diligent about researching excellent skincare products that are affordable so she can recommend them to her clients.  She is responsive via text if I have a product or scheduling question, and she's a delight in person. She is so thorough and I truly appreciate her intentionality in thinking through my treatments with me, whether it is booking before or after a sunny vacation I've booked or how the healing process is going afterwards.  As a brown person (a Filipina-Chinese woman with a medium/darker complexion that can tan quickly and easily), I am so grateful to have found an esthetician who understands how my skin and skin tone will react to products and treatments. I was referred to Putri nearly 3 years ago when I felt very much at the end of my rope with my skin. Putri has been my esthetician for almost 3 years now! Before I found Putri, I had adult acne that was severe and uncontrollable. My face was covered in acne and painful cysts, and nothing I tried made improvements. I have a healthy diet and am very diligent with my skincare. I felt so anxious and self-conscious about my skin that I would cake my face with makeup and make excuses not to socialize or leave the house. There were so many days where I couldn't stand looking at myself in the mirror and cried. I have PCOS, a common hormone disorder that affects one in ten women. At my first appointment with Putri, she astutely identified my PCOS and suggested I consult my doctor about starting spironolactone, an oral medication. My doctor confirmed that I had most of the symptoms and started me on the medication. Putri taught me about the science of skin and skincare and cleaned out my overly complicated and expensive skincare routine. I religiously saw her every ~2 months for facials, chemical peels, and microneedling. The combination of spironolactone, simple and clean skincare, and skin treatments significantly improved my acne and scarring. I am so happy to report that my skin is so clear! I still get pimples here and there and have flare-ups but they're very manageable and don't bother me. It's surreal for me to say this, considering that I've struggled with acne my entire life, but I barely wear face makeup and most days I don't wear makeup at all. I don't think I've ever felt so confident and comfortable in my own skin. My mental health and confidence are at levels I never thought possible for me. I had spent decades trying to get my acne under control, spending countless cash, time, and tears trying to find something that works. As I got more desperate, the more expensive and complicated my skincare routine got. Putri is a once-you-find-her-you-never-leave-her aesthetician. She started waving her magic wand over my skin in 2018 and I believe I have only reverse-aged since then.
