This review will primarily be based on the mango coconut drink on their new menu. I saw that there were new mango based products on the matcha cafe menu and I rushed to get it. The mango was sweet and delicious, but for some reason, I've never liked it in a drink. The coconut flavor was present but the drink itself was mild and odd. Next time, I'd probably get the mango soft serve. This drink was a 3/5. The service was a 5/5. I was glad to see that it was ready for pickup when I got there. I ordered it 20 minutes in advance and I liked how the servers/workers made the drink for me on the spot. The ambiance was super lively, even though it's in a small spot.
Counter service / quick service selection. They have a loyalty system if you input your phone number soft serve was pricy as expected but absolutely worth the money. We thought it was delicious and can't wait to return. The area it's located in is in a mall food court with plenty of seating choices.
Matcha Cafe Maiko delivered in every aspect!! I had heard good things about this establishment, and they most certainly did NOT let me down! We stopped by the mall they're located within specifically to visit them, and I found the experience to be wonderful! First off, ordering at the kiosks was extremely easy, and despite the large amount of people, they had our drinks that had been ordered ready in no time at all! My Matcha Latte with Sakura Foam was absolutely perfect in the sense that it was subtly sweet with nothing being too overpowering - I loved the slight fruity hints and the great quality to the matcha. My partner wanted the soft serve Matcha, which he found to be thoroughly enjoyable. It's in a mall, but the venue itself is very clean and easy to access. Regardless, I highly recommend this spot for giving a try!
I've been to the Matcha Cafe Maiko in Chinatown and was in awe that they got another location in the Tangram mall in Flushing. It is on the 2nd floor of the mall in the food court section. You can spot it really well when you get off the elevators. It is literally next to it with the huge logo on the wall. It has no doors and has an open to the public concept that you cannot miss. This afternoon I went there to check it out and grab floats and ice cream and was shocked at how many people were lining up to get matcha! There were 3 kiosks and in person cashier to place your order. I decided to go with the kiosk. I got a matcha latte float that came with ice cream on the top. I got to decide on 2 types of ice cream flavors and I went with matcha and Milo chocolate malt. I also got a matcha pudding with soft serve and chose matcha and ube flavors to go with it. Surprisingly with the number of people waiting for their orders, my order was ready in less than a minute. The staff were super fast with the orders. I didn't even have to wait. The matcha ice cream on the top of the latte float tasted amazing and authentic. I could taste the matcha flavor really well without adding any sugar. The Milo chocolate malt was not that salty as I imagined. They actually did not balance out the matcha and chocolate proportions well. I ended up getting more matcha ice cream than the chocolate on my latte. After I finished the drink, I realized how much ice was in the cup. It was half the cup left of unmelted ice. I didn't even know that it was going to be that much. I wish they gave less ice so I had more matcha latte in the cup. The matcha pudding with matcha and ube ice cream was really good too. My daughter had that and ate all the ice cream really fast since it was so delicious and creamy! Overall, the drinks and ice cream were really good but it was too pricey and wish they hadn't add that much ice in the latte.
Good quality desserts and dessert drinks. A bit on the pricier side, but still good Ordered the matcha lavender dessert milk drink with no ice and 0% sugar. If you mix it, the matcha overpowers the lavender and you won't taste it much anymore. But overall still a good drink Service was super fast and professional. It can depend on when you go, this time I didn't have much wait on a Thursday evening
I finally got around to trying the matcha latte here! I had tried their seasonal ice cream flavors before but never the matcha latte as I wasn't a fan yet. Apparently this spot has one of the best matcha lattes that you can find in NYC. Ordering was done via the tablets or register. They also had signboards out with deals that weren't available on the tablet menu. Right now they're introducing hojicha as a new flavor. On weekdays, they have a special for $8.88 where you can get one of 2 drinks and a custard or red bean taiyaki. I got the matcha latte with 75% sweetness and that was perfect for me. It really might be one of the best matcha lattes I've had in NYC (but the all time favorite is still Tokyo). 10/10 would get another matcha latte from here or maybe try one of their other flavors. Prices are a bit on the higher side at almost $8 for just one drink.
I went here twice today. Once for the sakura coconut drink, the flavor had to grow on me, though I did enjoy it. I went back and got the ube ice cream, which I did enjoy. Thank you to all the girls who are working hard to make everyone's orders and ensure that everything is running smoothly! It is usually busy, however the wait was not long at all for my ice cream, nor my drink.
Definitely a solid and reliable option for dessert. One thing that really draws me to Matcha Maiko is really the variety of desserts and toppings that they offer. They sell lattes, sundaes, soft serves, soft serve on top of lattes, it feels like you can really mix and match whatever cravings you are having. They offer toppings like as mochi, red bean, jelly, etc and all these different texture and variety make the desserts that much more filling. and in my opinion, makes the price more reasonable. My boyfriend and I will usually always go for the float. We love being able to have both a latte and soft serve in one. The latte itself is pretty decent and the soft serve has more of a thicker consistency which we enjoy. The soft serve is always creamy, smooth and had a strong matcha flavor. Overall, definitely a solid place for dessert.
A nice coincidence that we found out about Maiko Cafe Matcha in August of this year being fans of matcha. Of course, we tried the matcha and ube soft serve along with the amazing guava and lychee soft serve! Always up for matcha which goes well with various ingredients such as ube or adzuki red bean. We went to Maiko Cafe Matcha again in November to try the Maple Oat Hojicha Latte only to order the Sakura Foam Matcha Latte as well. Why not try these unique desserts and drinks?! Located in a conspicuous spot in the food court at the Tangram mall, you can't miss Maiko Cafe Matcha. Good customer service. Everything seems more streamlined with the menu displayed on the plasma screen and the promotional ads on the kiosk. Happy that there is a Maiko Cafe Matcha in Queens!
It's a great treat to have after your dinner. $10 per soft serve whether in a cone or cup. Creamy and delightful, I would definitely recommend this spot for ice cream. Great serving for one person or sharing between two people. It's inside the Tangram Mall. Accessible by the 7 train. Lots of seating all over the place if you wanna sit down to enjoy. Ambiance wise is very cute and instaworthy. Staff is always polite and pretty fast service too. Love their seasonal flavors from time to time like lychee + strawberry + mango. Tend to come here often by myself or sometimes with friends. Always taste fresh and not too sweet. Everything is 100/10 in my book.

White Peach Oolong + Mango ice cream + Sticky Rice - tastes like mango sticky rice in a cup Mango Jasmine Coconut Cream - strong jasmine tea flavor, very smooth. Mango Coconut Breeze (blue top) - refreshing, tastes like coconut water + mango slush. Strawberry Matcha Latte - looks fresh and tastes good (bitter matcha + sweet strawberry). All four are good. Not too sweet. Will come back.

The line can be quite long here but do not be deterred - it moves fast! I feel like there is a greater variety of flavors here than in Chinatown: Matcha, Ube, Peach Oolong, Strawberry. No hojicha though, which is my favorite. Don't forget to get a dust of matcha or hojicha powder after you get your order :) There isn't any seating for the cafe itself but it's literally right next to the seating area of the mall :) read more

First time here. Matcha tastes fine but it was melting extremely quick. Only within a few minutes the matcha drink melted and was dripping on the floor. It was Hard to eat and no seats anywhere (all occupied). The matcha cookie was good. Wouldn't get it again as nothing really stood out, possibly a lot of caffeine and lactose too as I had stomach pain after. read more

We got 3 drinks, one drink was decent but the other two were bland & did not taste good. Maybe their soft serve will be better than the drinks. I personally won't buy the drinks here, there are better options out there. read more

TLDR: Matcha Cafe Maiko seems to be a chain from Hawaii. The soft serve seems to be the popular item thing to order. If coming during the weekend, be expected for a long wait. Stopped by after a weekday dinner. I was excited to try Maiko but found it to be a bit underwhelming for the price. The matcha is supposedly imported from Uji but personally the matcha flavor was pretty weak for Uji matcha. Generally Uji matcha is very rich in flavor, almost bitter at certain notes but tremendous umami. I found the matcha ice cream to be more sweet and the matcha flavor to be quite subtle. We got the twist that was blended with hoji cha but still - found the flavors to be okay but nothing quite stood out. Would maybe try again after they find their footing. For what it's worth, the cone you get is pretty damn big. read more

This place is constantly busy! If there is a long line, there is a kiosk to the right where you can order. Once I made my order of the melon soft serve in a cone, it was ready in just a short few minutes. The melon soft serve was very refreshing, creamy, and tasted just like honeydew melon. Definitely recommend it. It's a limited flavor, so come and try it soon! read more

When I first tried this originally Japanese chain in San Francisco I was saddened to discover that only the west coast contained US locations and that there were none in New York. Finally this place has branched out to Flushing and Chinatown, blessing us with some amazing Marcia soft serve as well as some rotating Japanese flavors. In the past I've had Ichigo Strawberry which was nice and tart and now I got calpico soft serve which was vanillay and tangy. You can get a variety of other desserts including parfaits which may include shaved ice and mochi and bean toppings. This is your one stop shop for a Japanese/matcha ice cream place. So glad they came to NYC The soft serve itself is very creamy and high-quality. You can add Matcha powder or Hoji Cha powder to your dessert as well. It is not too sweet and the cone is light and not too sugary either. A solid place and welcome to the neighborhood. read more

Came here on a weekend to check this spot out. It's a matcha spot in the new Tangram mall in Flushing. Definitely has a long line on weekends, maybe weekdays have less people. After ordering, we waited almost 20 minutes for our drink. The matcha itself was pretty standard, wouldn't say it's super amazing but good if you're craving matcha. Would recommend visiting here on a weekday or when there's no visible line since the wait for your order can get pretty long. read more
My friend is a huge fan of matcha, so we came to Café Maiko to see if it was worth the hype. I ordered the Maiko Special (mixed) - $12, and my friend ordered the shaved ice (matcha) - $9.50 and Matcha tea - $6.25. The ice cream was rich and creamy -- matcha was good, but the hojicha was even better. I came back a few times, so I got to try their ube and peach oolong flavors, as well. All great. When they advertised it as premium, they aren't lying. Everything used was definitely good quality. Staff will ask if you want an additional sprinkle of matcha, hojicha, or soybean powder to top anything you order, as well. The items are a little pricey, but understandable due to the authenticity and portion size. The desserts can be shared because I felt like I ate a whole meal after I was done with the maiko special. read more

Yessss, They finally opened a Flushing Branch! *Chandler's happy dance in progress* If you don't know what that means you are too young, LOL. Having visited the Philly branch a few times, I looked forward to the Flushing branch open with great enthusiasm. Matcha Cafe Maiko's soft serve ice cream is the bomb. They quite frankly have the best matcha/ube that I've ever had, the consistency and flavor of the soft serve is rich. The Flushing branch had their soft open today and even though there was a queue for the open, they had plenty of staff on hand to address the line, they also had a few helping customers with where to stand on line, where to order, and where to pickup as well. They also had more than a few behind the counter making orders and addressing any issues quickly and efficiently. Feeling the excitement of the day, I went with the Matcha Latte Float which instantly turned my blah Saturday afternoon into a Chandler impression, LOL. They didn't have my favorite Ube soft serve (they will be getting more ice cream machines soon they said) from the Philly branch but they had Matcha which was just like Philly. I feel bad for the other soft serve competition in the food court as this version clearly outshines. My Iced Matcha float was like two desserts in one, soft serve on top and an iced matcha latte on the bottom. This definitely kept my happiness streak going well into the afternoon. Now yes it is pricey, my drink was north of $9 but once you get over the sticker shock, I'm sure you'll agree that you'll return for sure like me. read more

BLUF: premium matcha and hojicha drinks and ice cream desserts worth trying. Matcha Café Maiko (舞妓; apprentice geisha) recently opened as a stall in Tangram Mall's Food Court, initially serving matcha and hojicha in a variety of drinks and soft serve ice cream configurations -- as a cone, in a cup, as a float, etc. We've tried: - Mixed matcha / hojicha soft serve cone for $9.80 with tax. For that price, one gets a noticeably larger serving of ice cream than at nearby Soft Swerve; flavors that are more intense yet less bitter; and optional toppings of matcha and / or hojicha powder. - Sakura Rose soft-serve (limited time): tastes like a lightly-flavored cherry ice cream. - Matcha and hojicha lattes: very rich flavors. Be aware that the cups are inadequately sealed for travel. I look forward to Matcha Café Maiko bringing their ube offerings to Downtown Flushing. Other: Tangram Mall provides restrooms and complimentary Wi-Fi, the latter of which wasn't working during our visit to the café stall. Maiko Matcha Cafe has finally made its way to Flushing. Many have been anticipating and waiting anxiously for it to open. Maiko Cafe specializes in Matcha (it's in its name). "Our Matcha comes straignt from Uji's Harima Garden, which hat been in operation since 1858. Their high quality matcha deliver a great smell and outstanding taste" You can really taste the matcha without any bitterness. One of my absolute favorite dessert spots in Flushing! It's always super popular whenever I visit and the line is usually sizeable but it moves very quickly. It's located in the mall food court area so it's usually pretty noisy and always full of people eating yummy stuff. The menu has so many delicious goodies that it's always hard to choose. My go-to is the soft serve because I can easily walk around the mall eating it. The servers are very quick and efficient and friendly and my order is always perfect. They always manage to make it look exactly like the photos, which I love! This time around, I had the Matcha and Ube Swirl, which is the most perfect blend of flavors. The ice cream is so creamy and rich, and the matcha powder sprinkled on top gives the perfect amount of bitterness to compliment the sweetness. Hands down one of the best desserts here! I highly recommend popping by this spot, especially for the summer, and grabbing a delicious treat or a drink from their ever changing menu! read more

I love Matcha Cafe Maiko and its Japanese desserts. I sadly forgotten to take pics of the place because I was too excited to try their seasonal flavor. The mango ice cream was pretty good and it doesn't taste like a powdered mango ice cream. I still prefer their Maiko special more but it's still good. The ambiance was as pretty as usual and it was very clean and the interior decor was nice. The service was quite quick especially since they added the machine to grab order. Even though there was a line, they still managed to make the orders quickly. read more

This is located in the Tangram mall. Usually there's a line but on a weekday afternoon there were no lines. Their matcha soft serve is very good but maybe a little too strong. If it's mixed with Ube it helps mellow it out. The one strike is that it's super expensive. One cone is $9.80 with tax. read more

Matcha mochi waffle was delicious!!! I've tried their drinks at other branches but it was my first time trying their waffle! I had to wait about 20 minutes but it was worth it! The mochi waffle was super chewy, which was contrasted with the slight crunch from the light layer of matcha waffle batter on the outside. The warm waffle was topped with a generous serving of cold red bean cream, of which the fluffiness added another layer to the whole piece. Loved how the sweetness was mild and appropriate, which was enhanced by the slight salinity of the salted cream. Loved how the different textures, temperatures, and flavors came together! This store is located within the tangram mall. Lines were long but it seemed like people got their drinks/desserts fast. The waffles, on the other hand, took a longer to prepare. Service was alright. Had a big space for people to wait for orders including the nearby chairs and food court. read more

Came here just 2 weeks after it opened at Tangram Mall and luckily there was no line to order but there was a long line of people just waiting to pick up their orders. I like how they have special limited flavors available as during the time I went they had ube. You also have the option of adding matcha powder and other powders dusted on top. Service - ordering was fast and easy. But it was waiting for the ice creams that took a while. Food - ordered the signature matcha soft serve and my sister got the matcha + ube swirl on cones. I found the matcha flavor to be strong and after a while, I had simply gotten tired of the taste. The matcha powder on top definitely contributed to the rich, earthy taste. Price - for $9 a soft serve, it was quite expensive but I think the large portion kind of made up for it. Looking forward to trying their matcha float and shaved ice. read more

Grabbed a couple of cones after lunch on a recent warm day. Ordered a swirl but the machine was having problems with the matcha flavor so we ended up with just ube. The taste of the ice cream was nice and smooth. You taste the ube and it wasn't overpowering- a slight hint of the flavor. The servers were very nice. They went out of the way to try to up the experience to make up for the broken machine and not getting the matcha flavor for the swirl. So they helped add crunch sprinkles to the cones. Good move! Grand opening of Maiko Matcha Cafe in Tangram mall in Flushing!! Finally this location is opened and Maiko Matcha is available at more location. In the hub filled with many different desserts. The matacha is so rich and the matacha used is so authentic. They make each drink in front of you and the rice cakes were so chewy and good! I've gotten the hojicha tea and it wasn't too strong and for everyone who doesn't know it is roasted green tea! (supa good) The line was a little longer on the grand opening date but the staff was super friendly and took care of the line quickly as possibly. The location is at a great space. Parking may be a little hard as it is located in Flushing but really accessible if your taking public transport! Will visit again! read more

Seeing the photos of the waffles as I walked by the food court, I decided I'd stop by for dessert after dinner. They are located on the second level of Tangram Mall just as you enter the food hall on the left. They serve a variety of matcha infused items (ice cream, waffles, drinks etc.). I chose the matcha waffle with red bean paste. This was $6 plus tax. Yes, it is bright green! The paste is a very light pink with the "Maiko" wording sprinkled on. Insta worthy I suppose. I expected the red bean paste to be sweeter sort of like what I've had in the taiyaki ice cream cones. However, this tasted a bit like sweeter cream cheese? Not what I expected, but the more bites I took the better it tasted. The waffle is soft and having it on a stick makes it easy to eat on the go. Service was fast despite the line. I think next time I'd rather try the matcha drink or ice cream. read more
