    Cute Spot!
    Nessa R.

I grew up in the Arlington, Va so my realtor insisted I check out houses/investment properties in the Alexandria, Va Del Rey neighborhood. I've been to this area hundreds of times but never really walked the neighborhood. One of my favorite breakfast spots is near so I was shocked that just a walk down the block would have me in such a quaint area. Who knew! There were college football games that I didn't want to miss watching so I came to Evening Star to look for their bar area and was super excited when they said they had a outside area with a bar called the "Backyard". This place is HUGE! The area is so cute, it has cabanas and is set up nicely! I was impressed! There was only one T.V. but it did the job! Bartenders were super attentive and friendly. I only had their slushy drinks and didn't try their food but that is now on my MUST do list! Evening Star is one of those places you need to come visit a few times to check out their multifaceted restaurant! This place is a GEM! Five stars because nothing was amiss!

My friends and I had brunch here today because we wanted a place equidistant from all of us and Del Ray it was! We had an 11am reservation - we showed up a bit early and were immediately seated. Overall, the food, service and ambiance were good. I wouldn't go out of my way to come back (I live in DC so not terribly close) but it hit the spot for a low key brunch.

There is 2 hour street parking for the restaurant during the day then free at night. The restaurant was really dark in the booths but nicely lit in the main areas. It was hard to read the menu since it was so dark. The booths were hard to sit in for a long period of time since there was no cushion and just straight wood. The servers were all very nice and attentive! The food was absolutely delicious. I loved the new 3 cheese ravioli that they recently added. The red velvet cheese cake was very rich. Also had a cup of coffee which was yummy with cream and sugar. I'd definitely come here again and would recommend it.

In the heart of Mt Vernon we stopped by for brunch loved the decor and the service and the food was amazing. We ordered the avocado toast it was delicious. Its a small place that has a small town vibe. Definitely will be back soon.

I stopped in with a friend for an impromptu brunch and loved the relaxed southwest styled charm of this place. There's both indoor and outdoor seating, and the outdoor seating is split into two areas. We sat in the more shady patio area which offered a more temperate nook off the Main Street. I was really happy with the smoked pork hash that was on their brunch menu. It was plentiful and flavorful with a tangy barbecue. Service was prompt and helpful. Great brunch destination.

We came here for restaurant week and left pretty underwhelmed. The menu for restaurant week came with many options, but we felt all six dishes we tried were--fine. The restaurant was understaffed, massively, but even with them being understaffed we felt the service deserved more than three stars. The food is what earned the three stars here. We tried the wings, Brussel sprouts, salmon, pork chop, flourless chocolate cake, and the carrot cake. The wings and carrot cake were really good but the rest again, was just fine. The pork chop came with peaches and a sauce that was overly sweet, the salmon was way overcooked and salty, and the Brussel sprouts were overcooked. We wouldn't go as far as saying anything was bad, it just wasn't super remarkable for such a cute restaurant in our favorite neighborhood in Alexandria. We have been here for brunch, so we expected more. Would skip for restaurant week next time.

Love the new brunch menu. The smoked pork with poached eggs and salad verde was perfection! The side of HatchChili grits went well with it. Service was fast and friendly as usual, as we always sit at the bar. The ambiance remains consistently neighborly and we enjoy it every time we come. Also ate the brisket, eggs, and cheese.

I made a reservation for Monday at 530, but honestly I didn't need a reservation and it didn't get packed until around 7. There is only street parking so be ready to find a spot. We were sat quickly and taken care of immediately. We were deciding on drinks and the owner/general manager brought us a taste to solidify our order. The beet & Brussels were so yummy! When we ordered our second glass of wine, it took quite a while to receive it and without asking it was taken off our bill. I ordered the tuna steak, and while it was delicious, I should've ordered the crab chili pasta! My friend got the scallops and said they were beyond. We finished up with the silk pie that was perfectly sweet and so light. I would definitely go again.

Where to begin. When we got there it was empty inside. When we left it was filling up. This place is very nice inside and the lighting makes it a romantic place. We had the Chicken Tenders which was delicious! I would order again. The honey mustard sauce was to die for. The Duck pot pie was also delicious. The pot pie could use a veggie or something in addition to the pie. We washed it all down with wine and beer. Both were delicious and no complaints. If you are in the area. Evening Star Cafe is a solid choice for dinner. Prices are a bit high but you get what you pay for and the food is delicious!! I will be back to try further meals!

This place was an unexpected surprise, we saw this place a couple of times before actually going inside. Super cute diner vibes, hostess was super friendly and I feel like we picked a great time to come. It wasn't too packed for Sunday breakfast. Food was well plated ( which I observe everywhere), and the portions felt well balanced as well. Their menu was simple and I loved that. Loved the layout and the overall feel of the place. I will definitely be back to visit the backside of the restaurant which apparently is a bar!

Came in on a Saturday afternoon with a party of 4 - we didn't have a reservation and had about a 30-minute wait, so we walked around the stores while we waited. For gluten free folk - although the menu is not marked, the manager took my menu, consulted with the chef, and they marked up which items I could and could not have. Super kind! My party enjoyed the ambiance of the cafe (very cute and quaint), the service, and the quality/portion sizes of our food. We would definitely return!

Had a reservation and was seated on time. You can find street parking but it can be crowded. Waiters was very attentive and quick. I would say the timing of the appetizer and main course was way off. They both came out almost back to back. Not sure what happened there. Aside from that the food was very good. It was small onsides and a few seats outside. It can be very loud. There's also a bar in the back and their sister restaurant to the side. Overall I enjoyed my experience and would come back

He was in the mood for Lahmacun (sounds like Lahamajoun) super thin, crispy pizza topped with a mixture of minced meat with peppers, tomato, herbs, and spices. More fine, light, and delicate than the typical American thin pizza. The service, drinks, and food were beyond stellar in Narman. We felt like the only customers there and were waited on by many staff. The highlight of the day there was their pizza and their beverage presentation and flavors. We came on a weekday night and were the only people there in the end. My husband was impressed at how upscale the restaurant was and it was the finest Turkish restaurant he ever visited. He said it was similar to the hotel dining place he lived at in Turkey. This was our first restaurant in downtown Alexandria and one of our best experiences in Alexandria. The Lahmacun was the finest Turkish pizza my husband ever had. He ordered three of them! Each pizza was served on a large wood board with extra toppings on the side like lemon wedges, cilantro, and onions. They are so fine and thin that you can roll them up to eat. We had to put some of the last pizza aside for take out. I ate the takeout piece and was very impressed how delicious it was after being in the fridge overnight & re-heated. I loved the flavors of the Lahmacun and I don't even care for pizza that much. It is my most preferred pizza in my life ever next to the Crazy Ex in The Thirsty Goat in Clarksville, Tennessee. I ordered a Turkish dish with a rich and ancient history, Hunkar Begendi, or "Sultan's Delight." It dates back several centuries, and it was prepared for the sultans and high-ranking officials, and was served during special occasions and celebrations. The Hunkar Begendi had lamb and velvet soft eggplant with spices. I ordered it with a side of rice. It was very delicious and unique. Yet the Lahmacun despite its simplicity stole the show and cost 1/3 of the price of the Hunkar Begendi. For my beverage, I ordered The Elma. It has a stunning presentation in a smoke filled glass box. The Elma is a beverage with Bourbon, Peach liquor, vanilla maple, Apple butter,Lemon juice, and Apple cider. You have to watch the videos of how it is presented at the table. At the end of our dinner, they played happy birthday and surprised my husband with an ice cream and pumpkin dessert with a candle. So wonderful & heartfelt. It was a fascinating and flavorful dish. The pumpkin tasted like sweet potato & was different. This is a must see place for Turkish cuisine and the finest restaurant service. Prices are low to fair for such high quality food and service. Five Stars.

The place can get quite busy so I would highly recommend making a reservation first. We ordered some cocktails which all tasted amazing, I enjoyed the espresso martini the most. My wife and I arrived around 1:20 p.m. on a Thursday. The lunch crowd was still going strong, which only reinforced that we had picked a popular spot. Unfortunately, the experience went downhill almost immediately. When we walked in, there was no hostess to be found. After waiting about four minutes, she finally appeared and offered us a choice between a small table in the corner or one by the bar. Given how busy the restaurant was, we took the table by the bar. About seven minutes later, someone finally came by to offer us water and explained that our server was busy, but she would help us in the meantime. No problem. We ordered the Avo Goddess Salad and asked that it be split so we could share it. A few minutes later, our server arrived, introduced herself, and we let her know we had already ordered the salad and were ready to place our lunch orders. She was very helpful in guiding my wife toward the Old Bay Shrimp Burger. I was excited to order the Shrimp and Grits until I learned it contained Andouille sausage and, according to our server, couldn't be prepared without it. Since the restaurant highlights that everything is made from scratch, that surprised me. I ended up ordering the Ahi Tuna Salad instead. So far, so good. Then came the frustration. We spent the next 20 minutes slowly picking at our salad, growing increasingly hungry and confused. You know something is wrong when guests who were seated after you begin receiving their meals before you. Finally, at 2:10 p.m., our food arrived: my Ahi Tuna Salad and a Pulled Lamb Sandwich for my wife. Except my wife had ordered the Shrimp Burger. When we pointed out the mistake to what was now our third server, she quickly assured us it would be corrected. A few minutes later, our original server returned and took full responsibility. She explained that the lamb and shrimp items are next to each other in the POS system and she accidentally selected the wrong item. She assured us the Shrimp Burger would be out in two minutes and suggested we enjoy the fries that came with the lamb sandwich while we waited. Unfortunately, another ten minutes passed before the burger finally arrived. Here's where things became truly disappointing: the top bun was still cold--almost frozen. My wife ended up removing it entirely and eating the sandwich with just the bottom bun. At best, the Shrimp Burger was decent, but certainly not worth the wait and frustration. As for my Ahi Tuna Salad, it felt like something I could easily make at home, especially considering the $25 price tag. I'm also not entirely convinced the tuna was particularly fresh. I can't bring myself to give Matt and Tony's one star because the atmosphere is genuinely cool and inviting. So I settled on two stars--mostly for how I felt before the experience unraveled. And listen, I get it. Mistakes happen. We're all human. But as someone who eats out frequently, here's one piece of advice: when a restaurant makes a significant mistake with a customer's order, consider taking that item off the bill. Sometimes that gesture is the only reason a guest decides to come back.

All of the hip young girls in high school recommended this place to me and my friends and lets just say, they have never been more wrong. My girls and I went this weekend for a birthday brunch. I wanted a crepe, but when I saw it was 17 DOLLARS to slap some Nutella and strawberries on a piece of crepe is outrageous. I ordered a "Continental Breakfast," which, with tax and tip, cost me $30 DOLLARS. I wish you could have seen the look on my face when they gave me a plate of rabbit food. All 6 of us looked at the plate and laughed. Seriously, my 5 year old neice can eat 3 times as much of that in one sitting. So, in what world would that be enough food for a grown woman? My friend then went on to order the French toast for a grand total of $36 DOLLARS. Mind you, there was only one piece of toast, and the Inside was raw and soggy. Tasted like eating wet, soaked toilet paper. On top of the overpriced food and small portions, our "server" came to our table for a total of ONE SINGULAR TIME. My friend had also ordered a Chai Latte. Surprise, Surprise! It never came, and they still charged her for it. I think the nice man who brought us our food could see the look on our faces when we received our food, because he then brought us a free side of French fries. It is a huge problem when the french fries were the only sufficient thing I put in my mouth at this restaurant. I please, genuinely beg all of you to NOT waste your money. I promise there is anywhere else where you can get a crepe for double the size and half the cost. Once we left, we went down to Call Your Mother, the Jewish Deli, to get more food, as all of us left with our tummies still rumbling. Mind you, a full bagel sandwich and coffee cost HALF THE PRICE of one meal at Fontaine. Horrible. Mind you, it is 2 days later, and I am still thinking about this. I fully created a Yelp account just so I could leave a review. I think I would have a better experience eating an IHOP Continental breakfast than whatever I put in my mouth at this restaurant. Not worth the hype at all. Save your hard-earned cash and be a big baller elsewhere!
