    Hot Artichoke + Spinach Dip
    Denaya H.

Typically, matchbox is somewhere you can go that's pretty casual and fast service. I'm not sure what's going on at the Pentagon City location but the service is usually oddly slow and delayed. I thought it was a one off my last time here, but this proves to just be their thing. It won't even be crowded and the servers forget things you ordered and everything moves extremely slow. For instance, my appetizer came out well after my main dish which kind of missed the point of ordering an app. Also, it took 10+ minutes to get water after we were initially asked by our server. So not q great experience unless you have time to just wait. The food was standard and expected. I really enjoyed the spinach artichoke dip. The wings were extremely salty and didn't taste like the flavor I ordered, but I was short on time after already waiting forever so I made due. The brussels sprouts were delicious! My friend enjoyed her sandwich and broccolini. I probably won't go back to this specific location eventhough I typically enjoy matchbox.

Staff are friendly and our bartender give us great service . Food and dessert are delicious . Also try their happy hour.

I highly recommend Matchbox's bottomless (food) brunch, the food is DELICIOUS and there are so many options! My favorites by far are the French toast, the blueberry lemon pancakes and the fish and grits. When I tell you these items are bomb, I'm not even playing! Because I love it so much, I went with one group of friends on 2/1/2026, then I went with another set of friends on 2/22/2026 and then most recently on 2/28/2026. Tell me I have a problem without telling me! I am clearly addicted! Chill, I am back to my normal/healthier eating habits; three days won't hurt me! Anyway, highly recommend! P.S., other things I've tried and thoroughly enjoyed - steak and eggs, mini burgers, Caesar salad, chicken wings, hot artichoke & spinach dip and the chicken fettuccini alfredo.

Very nice location, well appointed furnishings, and a friendly staff. Stopped by for a late lunch and there was plenty of seating. We were seated upstairs so it allowed us to conversate without many distractions. I had the grilled chicken with avocado sandwich and it was fantastic. We also had a cheese pizza that had a bit of a spicier sauce than expected. A member of our party had no tolerance for the spicy flavor and they remade the pizza with a mild margherita sauce that was much more to their liking. The only thing missing for me is that they have a very limited menu. I would like to see a few more food options.

Great service! However, the seats were kind of dirty before we sat down. I really enjoyed the mini burgers (probably will get more than 3 next time!) and the crispy Brussels! Some were a little undercooked though. The dragonfruit nojito was very sweet so I'll probably stick with water next time. The pepperoni hot honey pizza was pretty good. I liked the super thin crust but my husband didn't, so if you're a thin crust pizza person, highly recommend!

Family member had a birthday celebration for brunch. I wasn't even aware of the brunch option. I loved that it was unlimited. I will admit we had a really large party and I believe that contributed to a lag in service. I did enjoy the brunch menu options. Standout was the steak with chimichurri sauce and potatoes In addition to the menu they have a taco and pancake bar. The breakfast bar was disappointing. Staff did not do a good job keeping it stocked with fresh items, we kept having to ask. Would I go back...sure! Our party size was probably overwhelming but I'm open to give them another try

The staff and overall atmosphere of the restaurant was nice. It was busy -but the seating is very well spread out-and we felt we could sit and enjoy a game of banana grams without holding on to a table. Plenty of options on the first and second floor. I'm not sure its it's because we are replants from Louisiana and Texas repotted, but the pizzas were lacking flavor and spices. I don't mean "hot" spice I mean-garlic/onions/Parmesan and oregano/ basil. This isn't the first place I try pizza since I have been here and both places lack flavor. The red tomatoes in the fried risotto and the risotto on the other hand were fantastic- I'm giving it a 5 on the risotto and tomato alone and the service, & atmosphere-actually the seafood crab soup was good as well. I would have paid more -for either more crab, shrimp or lobster chunks!

I saw this restaurant being advertised on IG and had to put it on my Yelp list. My husband actually saw the same advertisement and planned for us to brunch with friends. Yay!!! Gold star for him. This was my first time in this area which is definitely packed with so many things to do. The mall is packed like back in the day when people actually went to the mall to shop. We were able to park in the garage attached to the mall and walk over to the restaurant. The restaurant is gorgeous with great decor including a DJ. It has two stories including an outdoor patio area. Brunch is all day and you can order as much a you want. They have a small bar area set up with foods like tacos and popcorn . My only complaint was the food is COLD. I asked the waiter several times to warm my food up in which he did but, every time I ordered a new item it initially came out COLD or Luke warm. WTH. I like my food Hot. I was truly disappointed about this. Other than that we had a good time with good vibes and great atmosphere. I will love to give this restaurant another try but, I will definitely have to bring a mini microwave or warmer with me.

Overcooked ribs and hardly no meat and lukewarm fries

This has been my 1st time visiting this location in about 5yrs. I choose this location because my last visit was great. However this time I was not pleased at all. I will say our server Jesus was very friendly, polite, and quick. Thank you Jesus! Now the food, I was very disappointed. I ordered the ribs with fries. When it came out, I felt like I was being puked or ordered a kids meal. The ribs hardly had any meat on the bones and overcooked. The fries were lukewarm. My date ordered the bacon cheeseburger, asked for 1 slice of gouda cheese and egg fried hard. His burger came out with cheddar cheese on it, and egg Sunnyside up. Our date was great because we just over looked things and had a great conversation, but we both said we would probably not return. Disappointed at the food at this location.

I came here for brunch with my family and I had high hopes however the food was really disappointing. I tried the $62 brunch menu that comes with an unlimited food menu and add on drinks for $7. I initially started with the stuffed french toast. It wasn't bad but it wasn't my preference. The French toast was made with a light coating of something idk.. I just know I didn't care for all that. Then I tried the steak and eggs with a chimichurri sauce and it was mediocre the food had no flavor and the sauce tasted basic. The last thing I tried was the pizza and it was OK. It wasn't bad but for a flame grilled oven pizza I thought it would be like a little crispy maybe a little more sauce would've helped but all over the experience was pretty mediocre. I spent $92 as a whole including gratuity and honestly, I wasn't a fan. I won't be back oh and I also tried the cinnamon rolls and it wasnt good. I'll give it to like 6/10 overall. Long story short it was mid

    Catfish grits
    Tori G.

I really enjoyed the customer service and it was a very nice vibe inside of the restaurant. I love the catfish and grits the mumble wings could've been a little bit crispier, but they still were pretty great and the barbecue jerk chicken pizza is definitely something you should add on your list. I also enjoy the strawberry lemon drop martini and I highly recommend that you go the early part of brunch before a lot of other people go there. It's a really great deal for $49. You also get popcorn make your own waffles, ice cream and tacos and I'm leaving their food and ready to go to bed lol.

    Apple Pear Salad with Salmon
    Courtney L.

I visited this Matchbox on a Tuesday for lunch with a colleague. The establishment was very clean and busy. Pretty common for lunch. The staff were friendly and attentive. I ordered the Apple and Pear Salad and added grilled salmon on the side. It was super delicious! It comes tossed in salad dressing so request it on the side if that's not your preference. Overall great experience!

    Crab + Shrimp Fettuccine
    Monica D.

We went for a causal date night and this place did not disappoint. The menu had a variety of options, from pasta, pizza, sandwiches, and entrees. The crab and shrimp fettuccine had great flavor and was very filling. Our server was attentive and nice. Everything was delightful!

I love a good chicken and waffles so I was eager to try them out. I got to try the regular classic, peach ,and sample the Mac and cheese waffle. They were decent and I enjoyed what I had but it didn't move me to chorus. The fried green tomatoes were delicious. The biscuits for a cause were incredible. Hands down my favorite. Warm, fluffy, and paired perfectly with the jam and butter. The roasted half bird dish was a item on the special menu. They had a special on mimosas and had a few different dishes that weren't on the regular menu. The chicken was juicy and seasoned well. The green beans were nice and savory. Though the Mac and cheese left a bit to be desired. They complemented the dish but the green beans were definitely the standout. All in all, I'm not disappointed that I went but I can't say that I would return on my own accord. It's a very popular restaurant but I found the food to be a bit mid unfortunately.

When we made the reservation in advance, we called to ask if happy hour was everywhere or just at the bar; they said everywhere, so we booked a table. Plot twist, it's only at the bar / downstairs :))) We arrived 15 minutes early, so while they got our table ready, we ordered at the bar. 5 stars for the bartender. If I could review her, the host, and the happy hour prices in isolation, I would! They moved us upstairs, we sat down, and immediately saw the menus were different. We asked the gentleman bringing waters about happy hour and he sent the waiter over. The waiter, with about 2% helpfulness, shared that happy hour is only downstairs. I mentioned that we had called in advance to ask. We asked if it would be possible to have that menu or perhaps move. The conversation felt like pulling teeth. He said, with much dismissiveness, it was up to the host downstairs to move and if they had availability and left. (Fair, we move, he doesn't get his tip. An alternative? Give us the happy hour menu, still get your tip. Better yet, just be slightly helpful?) The host downstairs found us a table but shared it was booked at 6:15 so we needed to be in and out. It was no problem because we had arrived before 5 (early, remember?). Although, it took 15 minutes (I timed it!) for anyone to come bring waters or address us as their table. A little hard to operate with urgency when no one takes your order!! I got up, told the host stand, and they sent a server over, and he proceeded to come back all of three times. We also had to flag him down to get our check, while we sat with empty waters that were never once refilled. We had pizza, cod sliders, and half orders of aglio e olio pasta. The cod sliders were more breadding than fish, but the flavor was decent. The pasta was delicious. No five star Italian meal, but it hit the spot and the portion was plentiful. I didn't try the pizza but it was 12 inches, piping hot, and the two eating it couldn't finish it. The food came out quickly and hot. I think we spent under or just about $100 for four folks to have dinner + drinks, so the prices are really solid. Perhaps you get what you pay for though? Both of our male servers seemed annoyed to be dealing with us and mostly unhelpful. Noteworthy mention: there was a female server who was kind enough to bring us a brown paper bag for our to go box. She was running around and her tables seemed well cared for. Disappointed in my experience and the customer service.

That thoughtfulness is one of the many reasons I was excited to try it. Since many menu items were marked with a "G," I worried my options would be very limited, especially for the unlimited brunch experience. Thankfully, our server, Emma, immediately put me at ease. She brought me the food allergy menu, answered my questions with patience, and made sure I understood what was safe for me to enjoy. While my husband and I were deciding whether to stay, the manager, Antonio, came to our table after Emma shared my dietary concerns. His kindness completely changed the experience. He took the time to explain my options, offered to have the kitchen modify several dishes, and reassured me that their goal was for me to feel safe and enjoy my meal. Thanks to Emma and Antonio, what started with uncertainty became one of the most enjoyable brunch experiences I've had. I was able to enjoy a variety of delicious dishes, the mimosas were a great value, and the restaurant itself is absolutely beautiful, with floor-to-ceiling windows that fill the space with natural light. What I'll remember most, though, is how genuinely cared for I felt. Before we left, Antonio stopped by one last time to make sure I was happy with my meal and that all of my needs had been met. I was surprised by how empty it was for a holiday evening, actually just as strange by how vacant and empty the whole area was. This used to be a very busy area. I started with a White Russian milkshake and it was quite good. Again, that happy hour pricing really made it worth it. My meal was the chicken and biscuits. Large biscuits, fresh, with a little honey and hot drizzle. The hash browns were a tad dry and didn't quite fit the meal I thought, but the chicken biscuits were good. Enjoyed those. BUT one point that was quite annoying: THE GRAVY COST EXTRA! The server tried to upsell me with the sausage gravy (+$3) but when I asked if that cost extra he demurred and said it was just something they asked. He wouldn't actually confirm that. Not cool. I don't like being upsold like it's McDonalds. Eating off my friend's plate I also liked the french fries that came with his steak and cheese sandwich. We also had the cornbread appetizer. Again, if not for that happy hour pricing.. Cornbread is uber cheap so getting four fingers of cornbread felt.. well.. not quite a value match. Service was a little hit or miss. We had a lot of people helping us it seemed, kind of a divided table. Everything is there but I'm just not used to the inflation pricing. Milkshake, cornbread, and the chicken and biscuits, with 20% tip, came out to over $40. This kind of food, at this level of service, .. I feel like I was overcharged or not given the happy hour pricing on something. This just didn't feel like $40 for one person. And they want to do everything on the machine and you don't actually get a paper receipt or a bill unless you ask for one. Which you should. I guess bottom line: Ted's is expensive for it's class and offerings, so it makes a good date spot, but for regular eating out I think there are places better priced.

The donuts tend to get sold out later in the day. The small cafe is tucked on the street behind the Quarter Market (it's NOT inside the market) and just a few blocks from the metro. I've been to the D.C. Penn Quarter location many times and glad I made my way to the original location in Ballston. The cozy cafe has indoor seating with a few tables (no outdoor seating). My kids enjoyed the mini Triple Chocolate donut and I wasn't a big fan of the stuffed blueberry jam donut. Looking forward to coming back and trying out the new batch of monthly donut flavors!

My husband had a chocolate cake donut and bagel with lox, while I had a turkey sausage breakfast sandwich and mini maple donut. We'd both order the same thing again - but would be happy to try something new as well. There is indoor and outdoor seating. Outdoor seating is a bit noisy at the moment due to construction across the street. My only complaint is that $3.50 for a very small drip coffee felt a bit steep - the small felt smaller than usual.
