Gosh, an all day happy hour in One Loudoun really closes out a nice week. From Thur-Sun, they have an all day happy hour with food from $8-$10 and alcohol from $7-$10 Food quality was delicious. No skimping on these dishes. The sushi was fresh and came with a variety of sauces including a hot chili sauce. The hot spinach dip served with fresh focaccia type bread was so good. It was hot and loaded with delicious spinach. Wine was house wine and very smooth for a house wine. Service was decent. It wasn't exceptional but for a busy bar, it was pretty good. Matchbox is always a hit or miss with service and food. We love their Spinach Dip but they keep changing the bread. Now it is too thin to scoop the dip. They also change the fries and they look sad and soggy now. At least they kept the Nashville chicken the same. I also like their pizza. Recently tried their southern fried chicken and it was crispy but those two pieces is equivalent to a bucket of KFC, Popeyes or Jollibee. Not really worth the price. As for service, Russian Roulette. Lucky get an attentive waiter or bad got one running all over the places and you have to chase down for refills. read more

The wings had great flavor but could've used more crunch -- I like my buffalo wings with a serious crisp. The Caesar salad was pretty basic -- nothing bad, just nothing memorable. Shoutout to Carlos, our waiter, who was fantastic -- friendly, attentive, and made the experience smooth. Also, Prosecco with wings, pizza, and Caesar? A surprisingly great combo. The one thing I would say is that the pizza is spicy even if you tell them you don't want any spice. We knew the pepperoni would be but I got a veggie pizza with olives, onions and mushrooms and it was still spicy. Our server somewhat disappeared after we got our food and it took awhile to get a refill and then to get our check. I also paid with cash and it took forever to return only to tell me she could not make the right change so I. had to give her a larger tip than she deserved. Overall, not too impressed. I've been to Matchbox a few times for dinner but I recently went for brunch. For $45, you get AYCE brunch. They have lots of different food options, my favorites being the spinach and artichoke dip, blueberry lemon pancakes, and chicken and waffles. The brunch food items come out as full plates, so I would say this brunch is probably better for 3-4 people. They also had a taco and waffle bar with a bunch of toppings. As well as a cotton candy machine, that I didn't have time to try. Service was a little slow. Overall, I was impressed by this brunch and would go again. read more

This review doesn't take into account the buffet. No one in our party tried it, probably because no one working at the restaurant told us about a buffet. The brunch menu sucks to put it lightly. There are maybe 4 true breakfast options and then a bunch of meh, like sushi. Sorry, Matchbox isn't where I'm going for sushi. I did see an order and it looked like it was rolled by a toddler. Massive and loose. I ended up ordering their mini-burgers and a Bloody Mary. The Bloody Mary was one of the worst one's I have ever had had. Nothing on the rim, no ice, no celery, no nothing except for a sad little lemon wedge. The burgers were inedible. Ordered them medium and they came out as hard as a hockey puck. I ate half of one and left the rest. The onion straws that come with it was a pile of soggy trash. Our server didn't even note that my food was basically untouched. Full disclosure, I don't look like a picky eater, so it probably should have caught her attention. Then they treat you like a toddler by only providing you what they think is the right amount of condiments. I got about a TBS of ketchup for the hockey puck burgers and soggy onion strings. My 2 sons ordered the French toast, which was excellent. You get about a half loaf of bread and they gave them each about 1.5 TBS of syrup. Just bring a damn bottle out instead of making your servers run back to the kitchen constantly for more meager servings. What's sad is they changed their menu. It used to offer quite a few options for brunch, but some higher up decided it was better just to offer less. This chain always does this. Pull the good things and replace them with lesser offerings. read more

Oh have the mighty have fallen - if it wasn't for a friends birthday, I would probably have not come here but there I was, Saturday night, hoping it was as good as I remembered. First- we sat by the fire for a round of drinks and appetizers. The service was ok- she seemed confused when we listed off menu items but perhaps it was harder to hear us outside. I ordered the MOST expensive (and overpriced) drink on the menu- the smoked old fashion. It came out in a dirty glass with no smoke....for $22. Outback steakhouse smokes an old fashion in front of you for cheaper than that. My friend got the same and someone came out to try to smoke it for her, with our waitress saying "wow you were able to get it to smoke?" I would have loved to know that it cant be smoked so I would have ordered a cheaper drink. The spinach dip was nice but could be bigger but the table bread was tasty. We moved inside for our reservation and were sat in the bar area. Our server started strong, getting our drink orders, etc but she was once again confused by the menu when I ordered a Surfside canned cocktail (on the menu and I pointed to it). Instead she came out with a normal iced tea and then when I corrected her, she was asking what alcohol I wanted which once again, is on the menu. After our drinks, we ordered two salads (they were out of the pear one) and the caesar was good. Then we lost the waitress for a while to order our pizzas, and when we ordered a bottle of champagne she was once again confused (there are two options on the menu). Maybe she is new but I found the behavior a little strange. We had three pizzas, the pepperoni, the margarita, and the fire and smoke- skip on the first too. They are the most generic and basic tasting pizzas I have had in a while (especially when there are so many options out there now). The fire and smoke was the only original and tasty one. We also ordered the 6 sliders and it came out with 9- cant complain on that and the burgers were good but the onions were on the undercooked side. Then we could not find anyone to order dessert with (we are now 2 hours into a dinner). They were out of key lime pie so we got two brownie desserts and it was pretty generic but good. Then we couldn't find our waitress to close out with and when we finally flagged someone down, the other waitress rolled her eyes at us like it was an annoyance we wanted to leave after our 3 hour adventure at this spot. We just paid with one card and wanted the receipt so we could split it later on- the waitress never came back with it. We had to go up to the bar to ask and we saw 2 individuals attempting to print one receipt....I am so sorry, this is not rocket science here. Food- mediocre at best. Service- god awful (Saturday night with 4 hours spent here). Drinks- overpriced and not even smoked. Save your money. read more

After my last one star review they reached out all apologetic and said that it was just a rare thing. Eventually, I decided to try again because my kids talked me into it, and this time they too regretted it. Never going to come here again. We ordered pickup, and we got pasta for the youngest kid that was DRY like barely any perceivable sauce on it. My other kid ordered crab cakes, which she said were the most disgusting flavored ones she's ever had AND the sides were ALL MISSING. Lastly, I paid $10 extra to add ahi tuna to my salad, and there was NO MEAT on it when I got home, and NOT EVEN ANY DRESSING, just a container of greens. This was the worst service ever experienced. It was Father's Day and they couldn't get anything right. Our food took 2 hours to come out and it was wrong and or cold for everything. They ran out of silverware. Ran out of bacon. Ran out of Buffett line food. Full rack of ribs with corn bread delivered as half rack with fries. Waffles were ice cold and hard as a rock. Shrimp and grits ice cold. Eggs were wrong cook style. There were 6 of us. The entire meal was free but 3 of us never ate we just gave up. Servers were not equipped to deal with a kitchen that couldn't get anything right. Place is nice but on this day it was filthy with tables and bar not being cleaned in a timely manner. Would not ever recommend this place. I think they must have comped almost every meal today. Not sure how the management team lasts through a disaster like this. Checked out Matchbox in One Loudoun for their weekday happy hour (Mon-Fri, 3-6 PM), and it did not disappoint! The food and drink specials are a total win--especially when you're looking for quality bites and cocktails at a great value. I ordered the Old Bay wings (5 wings per order), and they were seasoned to perfection--crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside, and full of that signature Chesapeake flavor. As a martini lover, I couldn't resist the strawberry lemondrop martini--refreshing, lightly sweet, and perfectly balanced. So good that I ordered 2! I sat at the bar, which opens up to the patio, so I got to enjoy the beautiful weather from the comfort of the indoor space. The bar staff was attentive and friendly, checking in just enough without being overbearing. Excellent service all around! What made the experience even better? Supporting a Black-owned business! They had a really tasty pasta with chicken, mushroom and some red sauce. Tonight I was disappointed to find they no longer have the pasta. I was just here last month. I ordered the seafood pasta and was very disappointed. The pasta really had no flavor to it. I ordered a cheese pizza tonight and it had cooled off by the time I got home so it didn't taste the same. Amazing place! Good drinks, good ambience, & great staff. My coworkers took me here for my first time and it was such a great recommendation. The service is OK, surprised that the waitress did not observe a significant crack in the glass in which she served the water. We ordered the cilantro lime chicken salad to share and noticed that there was barely any chicken in it. Further I ordered the grilled salmon and noticed that the risotto was overly oily and my buddy ordered the fish and chips, which was tasty (and oily) - net net not a very bad experience, but service could definitely be better and the food cooked with a little less oil. read more

It was my first time at Matchbox and the pizza was delicious. I loved the smoked gouda with the spicy pizza sauce. The pizza wasn't as spicy as I was expecting it to be but it was still great. My margarita drink was incredibly strong but almost to a fault. It tasted like straight tequila lol We told the host we wanted to sit at a table that had a good view of the TVs since we wanted to watch the basketball game, but we were seated at what felt like the worst seat ever. The whole seating area was empty and stayed empty the whole time we were there, and we got a lot of pushback when we asked to be seated at a booth so all of us could watch the game. I ordered the Guava Martini (tequila, guava, triple sec, sour), very refreshing cocktail made just right. For food we got the Matchbox Smashburger (angus beef, grilled onions, American cheese, pickles, special sauce), Sticky Pork Ribs (18-hr pork ribs, mango slaw, teriyaki glaze), and Seared Tuna Salad (Mixed Green a, Cucumber, Radish, Avocado, Orange, Peanuts, Soy Citrus Honey Dressing). The Burger was juicy and flavorful, Stick Pork Ribs were fall of the bone with the right amount of tang and sweetness, Salad I was not overly impressed--it was good but not something I'd go out of my way for. For dessert the bartender recommended us get the Chocolate Chip Bread Pudding (with caramel and bananas) When it came out I was so afraid of it being overly sweet as it was sitting in a load of caramel sauce, but nope it really complimented the bread pudding and was not overly sweet. We have been going to this Matchbox for the last 4 years and it has been consistently great. It has a varied menu and friendly staff. There pizzas are varied and always a good choice when you can't make your mind up. However, over the last few months, things have changed noticeably and not for the better. We like to go for Brunch and when we went recently I ordered my usual, the bloody beer. Its a lager with vodka and tomato juice. Unfortunately this last time, it was full of ice. Interesting change. When I poured the drink into another glass, I could see that the drink was 50% of what it used to be, the remainder being the ice. So basically I paid the same price for half. My wife ordered 6 mini burgers and it came with what appeared to be 2 pounds of soft rubbery onion straws on top. Kind of weird and not visually appealing. The mini burgers were decent but just a mini burger in the roll with nothing else. I ordered the fish and chips, which for some reason came out 10 minutes after my wifes meal. The fish was ok but the batter was soggy and oily and came with what I can only describe as bloody awful shoestring fries. If there is one that that spoils fish and chips, its shoestring fries. (OK, potato 'chips' are even worse). The fries should be much wider and like regular fries. One of my sides was a coleslaw which had an off flavour and smelled weird. The server (poor girl) asked if everything was ok and I told her the various issues. Then the manager came over and I asked if they had a management change recently. She told us that there 'had been changes since september' where the menu had been 'adjusted'. Aha. It appears that all the adjustments had been cost cutting measures and it was sadly very noticeable. Not only in terms of the food, but the restaurant itself was basically empty on a sunday when it used to be full of families. Tragic and with so many other restaurants in the area, the main victims will be the staff, while the Corporate geniuses who create menus with greed as the motive, move on. Rather than be transparent, they chose cost cutting and lightly increased prices. But when the food takes a back seat to profit, you quickly run out of repeat customers. My wife, daughter, and I caught the tail-end of their Sunday brunch menu. A little before 1 pm, it wasn't too crowded, and we were seated right away. Our server hooked us up with water to drink and a glass of red wine for my daughter. We all ordered a small pizza off the menu but couldn't resist starting with the cast iron cinnamon rolls off the brunch menu. The rolls were disappointing, tasting like plain ole biscuits with icing slathered on top and sprinkled with cinnamon. Our pizzas were enjoyable. My daughter finished hers, but my wife and I ate half and took half home. My wife got the breakfast pizza with egg and said she wouldn't get it again. Came in at 6 PM on a Saturday evening expecting a wait but they were able to seat our two top immediately. The fried mac & cheese appetizer was really good. I was skeptical of the marinara sauce with the mac & cheese, but it went together perfectly especially because it's more of a creamy marinara like a vodka sauce. The pizza I got had good flavor, but the crust was a little soupy, kind of like neopalitan style. My friend's rigatoni pasta was delicious. Edwin was our server and he was fantastic.
