The crust was thin, which I really enjoyed. My only critique? I'm a serious sauce-and-cheese enthusiast, so I was hoping for a pizza with a little more "ooey-gooey" action. It leaned a bit on the dry side for my taste, but that's an easy fix--next time I'll just ask for extra sauce. The butter pasta it came with was good as well. The garlic bread was ok, large raw chunks of garlic on top of oiled toast. The small side of parmigiana was good, good cheese quality and more than I thought I would get. Keep in mind I did get this delivered. I called the restaurant and told them about the order. And they said to call them next time I order and they would see what they can do. I have to say they have good service. And I have nothing to say as far as ambience.

Welcome to my very first Yelp review! My husband and I had heard about the new Matchbox location on Bethesda Row, but didn't have the chance to check it out ourselves until recently. We made a family trip out of it and decided to bring the kids. The entire family was highly satisfied by their experience, and I had to write a review. From the second he greeted the table, our server, Nehemiah, was great with the kids. He brought them pizza dough to play with and kept them entertained the entire time. He was also kind enough to ask for the kids' orders early on so they could get their food faster. It's always great to have a server who knows how to interact with kids. As for my husband and I, we were thrilled with our dining experience. At Nehemiah's recommendation, we decided to order the Arancini as our appetizer. We couldn't be happier with the dish. It consisted of delicious risotto, fresh mozzarella, and an excellent tomato sauce to bring it all together. It makes for an excellent appetizer. For my entrée, I tried the Porcini-Rubbed Ribeye while my husband had the Crispy Chicken Sandwich. The cut of Ribeye was a fair portion for the price and had excellent marbling. It came out to a medium-rare perfection and the porcini mushroom dry rub really brought it all together. As for my husband, he was satisfied with his sandwich as well. The chicken was thick and juicy, while the deviled egg spread made for a unique touch. As we enjoyed our entrées, Nehemiah continued his great service. He brought us fresh silverware to use with our entrees and was generous enough to remove our appetizer plates. This looks like a minor detail but is often overlooked by most servers. We always appreciate fresh silverware and reduced clutter at the table. He also made sure our drinks were always full and kept our kids entertained while we enjoyed our entrées. They graciously donated 8 large delicious pizzas, a large Caesar salad, and large Apple pear salad with all the fixings, which truly helped make our event a success. I'm new to the area and yelp ( only got yelp for them) been living here now for about 4 months moving from Texas. I've been to this matchbox location four times now. Shanete and stan have been my bartenders at least twice. I come back because they are here. Shanete sold me on brunch box yesterday which was my first time. Matchbox has some pretty good food and decent beer selection as well. The reason I'm leaving this review is because of the service, though. I didn't have a yelp account until just now and I made it specifically to give credit to my server for his excellent service. I went in last Friday and was blown away by how well I was treated by Ben. His attentiveness and kindness was second to none. I'll definitely be going back and will request to be in Ben's section if he's there. Kudos to the restaurant as a whole for taking COVID protocol seriously, as well. The staff are the nicest and always remember their regular customers. They have live jazz and music every Saturday night where one can order dinner while listening to the band. Those are really fun nights. We also have our monthly dining out club there. It's a really nice long term neighborhood staple with valet parking. Want really nice Italian food in a non stuffy relaxed atmosphere? 20 stars! Go here!

The hostess took us to our seats. Then our waiter came who gave us two menus. One for the dog and one for me. I ordered the fresh duck that came with carrots, kale and superfoods. I ordered the dragon fruit mojito and brussel sprouts. The mojito was very refreshing and sweet so it was very easy to drink. The sprouts were delicious. They were cooked to perfection and had great flavor. My dog really enjoyed the duck. They gave great portions. I could tell he was stuffed. Along with the doggy entree he received a matchbox toy and a treat. The ambiance was cool. We sat outside on the patio and their was one other dog. No issues what so ever. We also had a super senior with us, so getting everyone seated took a little extra time, and we were finally settled by about 10:15. From there, things went downhill service-wise. We waited and waited for a server and had to ask multiple employees walking by if someone could help us. Finally, around 10:50, Giovanni came to take our order. While he was taking it, another customer interrupted him to complain that although she had received her food, her children still hadn't gotten their drinks. He attempted to assist her, and we expressed our frustration at being interrupted after already waiting so long. To his credit, he asked someone else to help her. The restaurant itself has a cozy layout with several different sections, and I really wanted to like the place since I pass it often but had never stopped in before. Because it was Mother's Day, we tried not to let the delays ruin our time together, but the service was honestly unacceptable for such a special occasion. As for the food: - Shrimp & grits (2 orders): 4/5 The flavor was very good, the grits were creamy, and the turkey sausage added a nice touch. My only complaint was that some ingredients were chopped so finely that there wasn't much texture or bite. The shrimp was good/whole though. - Catfish & grits (3 orders plus an extra side of grits): 3/5 You get two large pieces of fish, which was appreciated, especially for bigger appetites. However, one person felt the batter was overly seasoned and too salty. - Chicken & waffles (2 orders): 4/5 Generous portions with four pieces of boneless chicken and four waffle sections. Definitely satisfying. We also ordered a pizza, mini sliders, biscuits, four adult beverages, and a hot tea. The total bill came to around $350 with the automatic gratuity included for a large party, which was actually reasonable for everything ordered. Overall, the food had some bright spots, but the extremely poor service overshadowed the experience. Being busy on Mother's Day is understandable, especially for a restaurant that has been around for a long time, but special occasions are exactly when service should be at its best. Sadly, we left totally disappointed. Overall rating: 2.5/5. Decent food and atmosphere couldn't make up for the long waits and poor service experience on Mother's Day.
