My wife and I recently visited matchbox in Bethesda. Bethesda is a special place due to how many restaurants there are within a 3 mile radius. We tried about five dishes during our visit with plenty of leftovers. The best tasting items we ordered were the mini burgers and the Brussels. Don't get me wrong their food was good, but nothing really stood out. The pizza threw me off a bit. It was very thin and the description was misleading. The chicken was grilled and the sauce ln the BBQ Jerk. I would go back for a few items but that's it. I do remember the food being better a few years ago. Not sure what changed. Went here for my birthday with family and friends. It was great experience. It was clean and the service was so polite and nice. We chose a few lunch and brunch options and shared some the platters. Nice little spot in Bethesda for a quick business dinner. It's a very nice location, with plenty of seating, and an open kitchen where the pizzas are prepared. We enjoyed three different pizzas, side Caesar salads, and a couple of beers on tap. The service was a little slow, but they were very understaffed, so I will not take a star off for that. Our server was super sweet, and she was also taking care of the entire bar top. After church, gotta a large family and want to enjoy a nice day out? Matchbox's "All You Can Eat" Brunches is 100% for you all. I went out to brunch with a group of friends, and the food was sufficient for the four of us. We ordered many items off the menu and ate family style. Tasting a bit of this and that. The quality of the brunch items were average, nothing spectacular, not too bad. The waiter did an okay job with explaining the brunch but did miss a few items we had ordered like the stuff French Toast. We were so full off the other items, we had forgotten. The ambiance had a DJ playing R&B, Afrobeats, a variety of genres. The decor was nice, neat, a bit small, but still okay. The worst part of the outing was parking. Okay soo I ended up coming to this location because I initially wanted to go to Planta but there bar was full which was extremely disappointing to me. I ordered the Cute cosmo and the Crab artichoke dip. It tasted so freaking good yall lol. I was pleasantly surprised at how good the dip tasted: I also liked the presentation of the appetizer. We have had 2 visits to this location and both have been great. In both cases we had the kids and out of town guests. The restaurant is designed really nicely and feels like a place that you want to hang out and have a good time as it has a bar in the middle with lots of lots of TV. The staff there was friendly, helpful and attentive on both visits. Our daughters (11 and 9) got the hamburger and chicken tenders from the kid's menu which they both enjoyed. On my first visit I had the Seared Ahi Tuna Salad which was great and for my s2nd visit I had a Caesar Salad with grilled Salmon which was great also. For both dishes the fish was seasoned well and cooked perfectly. From the drink menu I had the Matchbox Mule on our last visit which was really good. Overall we have had two great experiences here and will definitely be back. read more

We came for the unlimited Brunch - you get to order anything from the menu. Service from our waiter, Eric was good. Food came out quickly. Eric checked on us frequently. Catfish was awesome. The grits (served with catfish and shrimp and grits ) were ok. Old bay wing were good, right crispness and blue cheese dressing was fresh and had nice flavor. Honey butter biscuit was good. We have lived in the area for years and this is a place we frequently visit with my disabled son due to the atmosphere and menu options. I've even recommended it to other people as a great place for disabled people to visit for community integration. He loves matchbox... I like knowing I'm supporting a BOB. We arrived on a Saturday close to 2pm and we were asked for a reservation. We have never needed a reservation before coming to visit so this puzzled me. They found a table for us. I then learned why they needed a reservation... their brunch was the only thing they were serving until 5pm all weekend. It apparently is new to this location. Music while a nice R n B vibe was very loud, hard to hear one another talk. Not good for people with disabilities/hearing/sensory needs. Felt like I was in a club when we just wanted a nice lunch. We were able to convince a manager to just let us order a pizza for my disabled son explaining we don't plan to stay long due to the atmosphere and we declined to order anything more due to just not feeling comfortable with the vibe. The waiter basically abandoned us at that point and we had to chase him down to pay the bill and order drinks for ourselves so my son could enjoy the pizza. We ended up going somewhere else to allow him to enjoy his community outing. I hope they are making all the money they need... I don't foresee us coming back anytime soon just due to how uncomfortable we felt having to beg for accommodations when before this place was always a great place to visit for his needs. read more

Solid pizza spot Great ratio of sauce to cheese and dough wasn't salty like some pizza spots I've been to. Cesar salad was perfection...inhaled it Forgot to take a before pic so you're gonna have to deal with me in the process of going through it It was a slow Saturday afternoon but their service was quick. The only thing I've noticed over the years is that their ginormous meatball has gotten smaller Their pizzas are decent and their other dishes taste exactly like you'd expect. Service was lovely and we love the location right in downtown Bethesda, but the food left a lot to be desired and we wouldn't reorder any of it: APPETIZERS - Spicy Tuna Tartare Tacos ($15): Tiny - White Wine Mussels ($17): Sauce was unexpectedly creamy and the mussels tiny - Crispy Calamari ($17): Not memorable - Crab and Avocado Tower ($18): Not much of a tower happening... more of a small mound with lots of nacho chips ENTREES - Cremini Mushroom Pizza ($15) - Fig & Prosciutto Pizza ($15) - Crab Cakes ($39): Previously nice and lumpy, this time it was small and also a lot of mealy breading and not as much lumps of crab beyond the layer at the top. This location of Matchbox is one of the many restaurants on Bethesda Row, but they do a great job of making an attempt to stand out in terms of their food quality and service. We made a reservation on a Saturday afternoon but there were still a lot of seating options that could have been available for a walk-in. Our bartender was very friendly and polite, and gave some recommendations when asked. We got the Monte Cristo sandwich from the brunch menu, which was delicious, with a mix of sweet and savory--French toast with strawberry jam, bacon, eggs, cheese, and smoked turkey in between it. Lots of calories but it was really tasty. We also tried the Crispy Half Chicken--24-hour brined chicken that's fried in broth, onions, garbanzo beans, coucous. It was really well seasoned and the coucous came in a light sauce that complemented the tender chicken. The service was great, and the restaurant was clean with a nice, subtle ambiance. Because this is one of my favorite pizza spots I finally decided to try their other items. So my husband got the chicken and I got the crab cake sandwich and neither disappointed!!!! The crab cake sandwich has lots of lump crab meat and no breading; the MARYLAND WAY!!! I was so happy lol. The chicken and mashed potatoes were delightful as well and my husband ate every drop. As always we sat at the bar and enjoyed each others company while the bartender kept them coming. We also tried the mini burgers and they were amazing lolol. My daughter and her friends went there for Homecoming dinner. The food was mediocre. The problem is that the server scammed them out of $120. He did not do refills or come around to check on the orders. He first got the kids to pay an extra $80, and then came back again and said they were short an additional $40. When parents called management, the managers said nothing could be done to help since it was paid in cash. This is a TERRIBLE response to this situation. So I had the Miso Salmon (pictured) and my date had the crab cake sandwich! I think this restaurant is a solid reliable restaurant for casual eats and a good time! My salmon was delicious and a good portion of food. My date said his crab cake sandwich was delicious as well. I would definitely come back. The place is spacious with a huge bar area with lots of seating. I've here before and enjoyed the tuna poke bowl as well! So far the quality of food is consistent and haven't had one bad experience.
