I've been to ArtHouse Mosaic Studio twice -…read more 1) to learn mosaic skills under Nancy's tutelage 2) as the sign language interpreter for a group of 6 deaf women, with Malika as their instructor. Both times, I was impressed with how relaxing it is to be around these women, something I feel certain is of benefit to those attempting the creative process. The way that Malika handled the 7 of us! - with multiple conversations going on simultaneously, arms flying everywhere - was spectacular. She was focused, patient, and gave flawless design suggestions for those who asked for them. One of the women took a really long time to decide what her project would be, changing her mind several times. This, and the fact that the women had to stop their work every time they spoke to the instructor or to one of their friends - caused our class to go quite a bit overtime. Again, Malika was graciousness incarnate. I've heard wonderful things about the 3rd business partner, Sherri. I'm sure she's a delight, as well. Next time you're looking to give an unusual gift or would like to exercise your creativity, give them a call!

I heard about House of Vartan while flipping through Marie Claire -- it was described along the…read morelines of "popular with the cool girls" which I am decidedly not. But I saw that they stock Kjaer Weis, which is a lovely low-waste cosmetic line, and figured it was worth a visit to avoid an online order. When I walked in (no makeup, milking day four of my blow-out after my last haircolor) I expected the cool reception I typically receive in places of "beauty." I love beauty products (I'm a bit of a makeup and skincare junkie) but have never really had a warm welcome in "beauty industry" places so I tend to avoid "beauty specialty" in favor of self-service spots. My experience here was the polar opposite. I walked in on a mission and was greeted with so much warmth and joy by Brendan, the owner, that before I even left the store I'd followed him on Instagram and was excited to keep in touch. He coached me through application of very simple cheeks and eyes with the Kjaer Weis product I was looking for, and helped me pick out exactly what I needed (and I've used the palette with love as my daily AND for evening ever since -- it's my favorite make-up in my kit). And beyond that, his joyful and welcoming energy made me feel at home in a "place of beauty." I'm comfortable and confident referring ANY of my friends to Brendan (and have and do, regularly now) and am especially excited to have somewhere and someone to refer friends who aren't always received warmly by the beauty industry to (including my man-friends and trans- and gender non-binary friends who aren't always warmly received in "beauty spaces.") Both times I've visited, I've felt strongly that that Brendan's ability to help create external beauty is supercharged by his ability to see the beauty within in anyone who walks in the door and that is a very, very special gift. If you've heard the hype and are the type to avoid a spot because of it, do yourself a favor and stop in. My treat to myself for the new year will be to start a facial habit here -- it's WAY out of my way, and very much worth the drive, and I'm just so delighted to be able to support such a warm and welcoming local business instead of the big chain stores.

I was informed the tourney would likely go until 9pm. They host both the card game and the switch/video game challenges. I did have a card to trade and the breakdown of the process was the most thorough I've seen yet and I wanted store credit as you get 80% vs 70% if you got cash only. Anywho, the wait to be called did take longer than I'd like but given it was busy and my decision on what to use for store credit took awhile, I wouldn't deduct anything. Avery (sp?) was the main person who helped me and she was very patient. I also bought some playable cards (they have a stash of organized cards in bins near their staff-only area which other employees helped me out with. All-in-all, very spacious and well organized! They have one exclusively for double rares/ex cards, ultra rares/full arts, ace specs, etc. They even have a box for people to drop off ETB boxes in for people to claim for free if they want to take home. I also noticed some instant ramen station which they utilized for food in the store. They have some nice wall art too that was handprints as well. Would revisit if I'm ever back in Seattle, WA!

The staff was also friendlier and helpful. If you're looking for Pokémon cards, this is definitely not the best place to look for them. They had a bunch of single cards displayed and it looks pretty randomized. Not a good variety and honestly looks disorganized. They at least have a decent amount of sealed products, but everything was above market price. The staff wasn't friendly, nor were they interactive. The place wasn't that organized. There's a decent amount of table with you want to play card games with your friends.
