After acupuncture, physical therapy, pain medicines, and cortisone related epidural shots which did not touch the pain and 5 doctors later, I saw a friend of mine who I had not seen in over 15 years in a Jewel store. She asked how my husband was doing. I mentioned that he, at this point WE, have been suffering with pain for almost a year in his right hip, thigh and back area. She mentioned that she had experienced similar pain and that she had a hip replacement which was done by Dr. Scott Sporer. Note, she was dancing in the aisle in Jewel, and after getting the contact information from her I went directly home, not finishing my grocery shopping, and called his office immediately. After explaining what was going on with my husband and that I needed an appointment right away, his scheduler Angie got us an appointment a few weeks later. I did a count down until that day came, which was on Valentine's day. I love Dr. Sporer! He was thorough in his examination, patient, listened and explained everything. Mind you I had every MRI, and x ray, the actual images on discs, lab work and progress notes that had been taken over the months. However, upon arrival an x-ray was taken at Dr. Sporer's office and it was agreed that the joint was bone on bone in the right hip. Although my husband also has arthritis throughout his joints, Dr Sporer explained to us my husband's options which included right hip replacement. My husband agreed that surgery was his choice at this point. Dr. Sporer asked when you would like surgery, and my husband immediately stated tomorrow! This was my husband who was previously afraid of having surgery but, at this point, the pain was unbearable and he wanted it addressed immediately, so did I! The surgery was performed in March and was a success, and slightly over 5 weeks later, my husband who prior to surgery could not stand up straight without making old folks pain sounds, and I were in Los Cabos where we both thanked God, relaxed, and my husband was in little and mostly no pain. Please note that follow-up with Katherine Olsen PA-C, the PT team with Caitlyn Jaraczewski and the follow-up with Dr. Sporer and continuing your PT is critical for full recovery. They didn't work AT ALL, I told him that and said I'm ready for the surgery. He told me to make an appointment at a later date, and that's when him and his secretary completely ghosted me. They "left multiple notes" for the doctor to get back to me, they "left multiple notes" for his secretary, Wendy, and I never heard anything back from them. I was just left to suffer. So yeah, screw you for that. I will say he was very skillful with his injections. I was very nervous about them, but they went very well. This isn't in his control, but his waiting room was awful to be in. Filled with old people staring at me and whispering to each other about me, "she's too young to be here" "she's too young to have back issues." that's some REALLY dumb shit to say. Young doesn't = healthy... Yall are too fucking old to be that dumb.

I had a progressively worsening situation where I was losing the use of my legs. It was only after…read morean MRI of all three sections of my spine, where the culprit was discovered, a serious herniated disc at T8, T9. The hernia was about 10 mm which is huge relative to the space your spinal cord and Dura need and was pressing directly on the spinal cord. After reviewing the MRIs, I was advised urgent surgery was needed. Since I could see the progression and was living with the scary negative trend with my leg strength, waning, I was eager for the surgery. Dr. Lopez told my wife after the surgery that every aspect of the surgery went better than he had anticipated and that he knew I was better already. I was able to walk out of the hospital same day and was so grateful for a reversal of what could've been a dire situation. Although I still have some lingering neurologic sensations in my legs. This is not unusual as nerves can heal at very different rates, but I can say after five months I am nearly back to normal, my experience with Midwest orthopedics, Dr. Lopez and his staff has been nothing but positive. During the investigation of my spine, it was also duly noted that I will likely need ACDF surgery as well and I have symptoms of severe radiculopathy. I have scheduled surgery with Dr Lopez and have all the confidence that my outcome will be outstanding as it was for my thoracic spine surgery. I included a picture of the surgical site the day after my surgery. A life changing surgery through such a small opening. I did feel like I wanted an opportunity to review my cervical MRI results and get a better understanding of why surgery was indicated and so I made an appointment with Dr. Lopez and had this discussion,-and decided to move forward with the surgery. He spent lots of time hearing how the injury occurred, examining my son, taking the xrays, explaining the xrays to me and coming up with a recovery plan. He is a very friendly guy and was patient and answered all my questions. Do you know about growth plates? Well I am quickly becoming an expert. This practice has several locations and several specialists, so you know they have dealt with your problem before. Also the appointment phone line opens at 8 am, which is so much better than waiting until 9. So after 2 major bone injuries in my house, my new motto is to avoid the ER at all costs (not if it's really in bad shape of course). Those bozos can't read an xray to save their life! Growth plate? What's a growth plate? Did we learn about that in school? The orthopedic specialist is the way to go!

Another reviewer commented on the high cost of healthcare...this is not OAD's fault. Yes, it's expensive, but I feel like they do it right here. I did pay a lot of money for surgery, OT, etc, but I feel like I received the best care and got the most for my money. Unfortunately I think Gerry H is just a bitter person. I had a great experience with Dr. Thomas and a great experience with Linda Picchiottino (the OT specialist). I did feel like it was slightly "assembly line" at time, more so with Dr. Thomas, but you have to keep in mind, these are SPECIALISTS, all they look at, all day, is wrist and hand maladies, they know what they are looking at and they know what to do, why would you want a lot of hemming and hawing? Anyway, I would recommend this place whole-heartedly.

Six months after microdisc surgery, I reherniated the disc. I was just sick with pain, and after 3…read moredays of not being able to get into the surgeons office, I called Dr. Dan on a desperate whim (He has a location in the building where I receive other treatments). Within 5 minutes, he called and had me immediately come to his office. I arrived in his office weeping unabashedly, partly from pain, and partly from fear of another back surgery. The surgeon had warned me that another reherniation could result in a fusion surgery. Dr. Dan spent nearly 2 hours with me that day. There was no miracle or quick fix, and I left weeping as well, but I did have a glimmer of hope. By the time I was able to get new MRI's and see the surgeon, I was still in writhing pain and had a completely numb foot and leg. The surgeon was skeptical I could avoid surgery, but said he'd encourage non-surgical treatment for six weeks. (Because the nerve was damaged, the longer you wait the less likely it is for the nerve to recover). In those 6 weeks, I saw Dr. Dan two or three times a week. It was a roller coaster of emotion and physical pain. Dr. Dan was so compassionate and consistently optimistic that we could avoid surgery...even when I wasn't so sure. About 4-5 weeks in, we had a breakthrough....I could move my toe! Things really turned a corner, and I was more and more mobile. At the six week follow up with my back surgeon, he was very impressed with my progress and said that if he did surgery, he couldn't guarantee any more improvement than I had already made without surgery. I continue to see Dr. Dan about once a week, there have been a few setbacks, but progress is consistent. I feel that Dr. Dan genuinely cares about how I feel, listens to my goals, and encourages me in my overall wellness. There is no doubt in my mind that if I had not made that call, or if my surgeon was able to see me sooner, I would have had another back surgery, more than likely a spinal fusion surgery.

The fourth one is the problem. He tried to do a surgery that he wasn't qualified for because my kneecap had went off to the side. He couldn't make it right by moving it back. He was going to recommend me to another sports specialist that dealt with knee cap repairs. I decided to take a break from surgeries for a while. When I went to contact him I was told that I was no longer his patient. Now what am I supposed to do. I'm very disappointed with the way he decided that I was not his problem/patient anymore.
