Their nickname is MAYHEM & MALPRACTICE!!! AVOID THEM!!! I was referred to M&M Ortho by Good Sam's when I dislocated my right knee for the first time, and ended up in Good Sam's ER. I really should've sued them, but I was younger, and fairly naive. I had a female dr. whose name started with a Z. I can't remember the name, but she had dark hair. Anyways. She had my knee immobilized three times longer than it should've been, according to the other ortho dr's and physical therapists I've seen. At one of my appointments, I had a $30 co-pay and wasn't even in the building for a full 15 minutes! She asked if I could bend my knee yet, I said no. She poked around, asking if it hurt, I said yes, and she said to go to physical therapy. The physical therapist I went to immediately after said I had more scar tissue built up in my knee from being immobilized so long than I would've had if I'd had surgery. read more

I was referred here due to some problems with my shoulder. Staff were very nice and so was the doctor...until he saw I had an HMO(I have HMO Illinois--BC/BS and have had them for over 10 years--one of the top insurances to have in the lines of HMO's). His demeanor changed, became a bit curt and he was finished with me! I understood why when I received a copy of the bill. For the 10 minutes he spent with me, the cost was almost $2000! That did not include the 6 weeks of physical therapy at Good Samaritan Hospital. read more

Been here a few times in the past month or so due to my son's broken elbow. Long story. The staff here is so nice and PROMPT! We were waiting maybe 1 or 2 minutes before we were taken back to our examining room. There was quite a selection of colors when it came to choosing your cast and it was put on lickety split. I think it took about 5 minutes. When it came to cast removal, the staff was very nice and reassuring. Not smart enough to help me convince my son to throw away his cast, though. What do you do with that??? One thing I didn't like was how well-oiled this place was. I felt like there really was a rush to get us out of there and get the next bill, I mean person, in there. read more

Boooo M & M Orthopedics. I've seen M & M on many occasions over the years (unfortunately). The first time was when I injured my knee playing softball when I was 11. M & M diagnosed it as a dislocation, put me in an immobilizer, directed me to physical therapy, and sent me on my way. Fast forward 11 years later when I fell down a flight of stairs and injured the same knee in the summer of 2007. M & M did an X-ray, diagnosed it as a fracture, put me in an immobilizer yet again, directed me to physical therapy and (notice a pattern here?) sent me on my way. Well, last April when I injured the same knee, I returned yet again to M & M. Same course of action: X-ray, this time a knee brace, physical therapy...only this time they said that it might be serious enough to require surgery. But they weren't sure. Uh, ok. At this point I utilized the limited connections to the medical community that I have and decided to get a second opinion. When I went to M & M to pick up my records, the receptionist asked if I was going to get a second opinion. Awkwardly, I replied that I was. To which she responded, "That's probably a good idea." When your own staff is advising you to look elsewhere, you know it's time to move on. After seeing a new physician who did an MRI, he said that I have extensive cartilage damage...probably as a result of a misdiagnosis from M & M from my "dislocation" over 10 years ago. I have nothing negative to say about my experiences here. Several years ago, I needed a spinal fusion Dr. Mather was through, compensate and understanding. He tried what he could to avoid surgery and when nothing worked was timely and helpful in the scheduling and prepping for surgery. The procedure was smooth and healing was remarkably quick. Just this weekend I herniated a disc in my neck (unrelated to the previous lower back issue). I asked that he be called and he showed up despite not being on call just to personally check on me. His course of treatment was 100x better then I had been given by the attending hospitalist. The pain was manageable and within hours I could move my neck again! His PA Kelly, spoke to me on the phone Sunday and was genuinely interested in how I was doing. I would highly recommend M&M Ortho and particularly Dr. Mather! read more

I was prescribed PT in an effort to resolve a string of terrible headaches. Because I needed treatment relatively quickly, my first three appointments were with different therapists. Each handled my situation with care, and they built their plan from the previous visit's actions/outcomes as well as how I was feeling on that particular day. Jason Hendricks is my ongoing therapist, and I am very impressed with his knowledge and approach. He quickly provided integrated exercises to strengthen the area (while using balance and optical stimulation) and just as quickly would provide gentle stretching,heat/TENS/etc. if I just needed to calm the area. I appreciate the fact that there is as much consideration for reducing strain and inflammation as there is for improving strength. As a side, Jason very closely identified what he thought the underlying issue was - and referred me to an ortho-spine specialist (Dr. Mather - also awesome) who was able to confirm Jason's suspicions with X-ray. I'm relieved to have an accurate diagnosis, and am working with Dr. Mather and Jason H. on determining a plan for long term management. I highly recommend this group! read more

A few years ago when I was 18 I was having issues with my knee that prevented me from walking. I ended up seeing a Doctor L there ( I won't publish his name) who ordered X-Rays and an MRI when we couldn't figure out what the issue was. He could not have been more disinterested in seeing me, or trying to figure out why I was in so much pain. Long story short I had a Baker's cyst - where the knee produces may too much synovial fluid and it creates a swelling, painful bulge - common to the elderly and marathon runners - which I was neither. I had done research myself to try and figure out what was wrong with me, and Dr. L wouldn't accept that it was a Baker's cyst until the MRI came back and it was clear as day - despite my showing all of the symptoms. I had to have my joint aspirated (drained of fluid), and before the actual draining I was given a cortisone shot for pain (it did nothing), and we went on with the procedure. Dr. L was rough with me, it was so painful I was white-knuckling the table and screaming. He got 4 ounces of bloody fluid from my knee, and I got the most painful and uncomfortable experience of my life. OH - and when it was all over he gave me a freaking lollipop. I wanted to hurl it at him. The best part is - after the procedure he didn't have the fluid analyzed. Why would he you ask? Because as a regular 18 year old, non-runner it was highly unusual for me to have a Baker's cyst. Weeks later my knee started swelling again - the same thing was happening. I ended up going to a different doctor who drained my knee (much less painful) and analyzed the fluid, to find out I have Arthritis. Hello lifetime autoimmune disease! If I had continued to see Dr. L, I would have had to go through the same trauma who knows how many times, without answers, since he didn't seem to care that my case was unusual or needed a closer look. read more

Dr. Vinci is the best! Fixed my moms hammer toe. Very gentle, quick, and to the point. Answered all of our questions and concerns in a professional manner. Very experienced. My mom didn't even need pain killers after surgery. read more

I recently saw Dr. Kuo. Really liked her. She explained the treatment options - all which made sense. The wait for an appointment was a few days and the wait once I was there was short. The office ladies however were complaining about too many doctors being there that day - they were swamped. This was a bit unprofessional in my opinion. read more

I typically wouldn't give any place 1 star. However, I brought my mom here and she was in extreme pain. The nurses were rude, didn't really like the doctor either but I won't name names. The nurses were all snickering while my mom was crying because of her pain. Everyone seemed to be completely unprofessional and I will never go back. I have told everyone I know about our experience and everyone seemed to have very bad experiences as well. I will never recommend anyone to go here. read more

My 80yr.old mother broke her knee cap in her right leg which had a bad broke 30years ago. This leg had two screws in it and would occasionally give my mother some pain. When we took my mother to Good Samaritan Hospital she was assigned Dr. Zillmer. Instead of recommending removal of screws and a knee replacement she placed the leg in a cast and later had extensive therapy. The therapy was so vigorous my mother developed a Baker's cyst. When we went to M&M and asked why a knee replacement was not recommended Dr. Zillmer's attitude was trite and angry. Now after going to a different surgeon and a knee replacement my mother is doing fine. read more

I have had surgery on my knee & shoulder by the same Dr. I think he is one of the best. No matter what insurance I have had, he treats me the same. I have referred my friends to him and they all agree he's good. I have also seen the spine Dr. In just one visit, I feel comfortable with him. When I decide to have that surgery, he will be the one I use. Appointments are fast, the staff is great. If there has been any waiting, it's due to an emergency. read more

If I could give no stars I would have. My 2 year old has been limping for a couple of months now. Our first appt was fairly useless because they didn't have access to the x rays. I called multiple times before our next scheduled appointment and left multiple messages to make sure they had all of the test results and xrays before our next appt. No one even has the courtesy to respond and the receptionists do not care. Absolutely horrible! It breaks my heart to watch my poor little boy limp around and they don't even care enough to follow up with me. read more

After having two prior surgeries for plantar fasciitis by podiatrists without relief, I went to see Dr Lapinski to see if there was any more I could do. Dr. Lapinski was very professional and thorough. I had to have another surgery unfortunately, but now my issues are resolved. Do not go here if you have hand problems! I had severe arthritis in my dominant hand. After checking out a few doctors, decided on surgery by Dr.Tulipan. I asked if I would be able to continue playing the piano after healed, and he said absolutely. After surgery and 3 months of therapy, I reached my max. I have minimal extension in my span and my hand is deformed. Doctor minimized my disappointment and continued pain, saying that it wasn't his fault, and said that I had low tolerance for pain. After obtaining surgical records and seeing other hand surgeons, I was told that Dr. T. chose an old, and not a preferred surgical procedure; thus, the reason for the bad outcome. I could consider a surgery to attempt to "fix" it, but no guarantees on the outcome due to the mess that was made. Playing the piano is a painful struggle, as are many other things. read more

My family & I have been to M & M many times over the last several years (including back surgery, which I had within a week of my first visit), seeing different doctors for different body part injuries. I don't know what planet the "disappointed" reviewers are living on but we have not had any of the problems mentioned. They ARE doctors and will have emergencies that may make waits longer, especially if you yourself are late for the appointment. Insurance companies "approve" such a small amount of charges that doctors have to charge more so the "usual & customary" is better. As for the mis-diagnoses, unfortunately, they happen everywhere from time to time. The key is to be pro-active with your condition, ask a lot of questions (I have rarely, if ever felt rushed) and write things down if you have to. Maybe some of these people should take a look at themselves and see if they might be part of the problem. Were you in a rush that day or did something else put you in a bad mood? I am confident enough in M & M that I am taking my 86 year old mother there for a problem. read more

AVOID this group unless you have no other choices!! I had a sever infection on my elbow. I informed them of travel plans the next morning adding to the overall urgency. Dr examined my arm for 20 seconds, prescribed an antibiotic and walked out. No discussion. I asked for the script and was told it would be phoned into Walgreens. That didn't happen. The office closed at 5; my calls to get the script resolved went unanswered. The next morning I had to cancel my travel plans to chase down the script. That took several more calls and several more hours all the while the infection was spreading. Could not have had a worse experience. read more

Dr. Timothy Payne was a very caring, knowledgeable and outstanding physician. 7 years ago I fell on the ice and broke my foot and leg in 4 places. From the ambulance that took me to the hospital, Dr Payne the doctor on call immediately performed surgery. Not only was he caring, he continued for several years to monitor my situation. Even 9 years later when i returned for plantar fasciitis he remembered me unlike many other physicians. I can depend him on any type of type of ortho treatment. The staff nurses were extremely respectful and helpfuly, id recommend m and m orthopaedics anytime. Only concern. I use to be able to call and get an appointment, the Dupage Medical group will put you on hold for 15 minutes to get an appointment, They have very poor service. I had to drive to the clinic to change an appointment. read more

My son had a knee injury from volleyball. We went to the M &M OrthoXpress in Downers Grove and were seen by Lauren Smith, P.A. within a half hour. She diagnosed the problem, gave us the treament and we even scheduled a followup that day. She told us to call back if he got a fever. Well, lo and behold he did. I called the next morning, and was seen immediately in the Naperville office by Jennifer Johnson a P.A. and Dr. Matlock. Great great service! I will recommend OrthoXpress to all the moms of sports kids! read more

I was denied further treatment due to not being able to pay more than $100/month toward my bill. I have 4 bulging disks in my cervical spine combined with grade 4 scoliosis, arthritis in lower lumbar and a disk completely missing in lumber region. Now, you tell me how any doctor can sleep at night knowing he's got a patient with serious conditions, yet won't allow any further treatment because she can't pay more than what's she's got. When I walked in there crippled 2 weeks ago, they gave me a script for pain and ordered physical therapy based on an X-Ray, not an MRI. They are only in this profession for the money and do NOT care about their patients personally. Stay away, don't waste your money on this group. read more

Worst medical experience ever. Dr. Mathers the nurse Meghan horrible bed side manner. I had to ask for names of ppl interacting with me they were short unprofessional and the doctor acted as though he was not interested in my concerns at all. The x ray tech was very helpful. I called to have x rays and doctors notes sent to my primary doctor and was hung up on. I will be looking into how to file further complaints with medical boards ama or someone who will look into the practices of this doctor read more

M&M advertises their "M&M OrthoXpress", telling us to go directly to their office instead of the ER when you have an injury. The problem is, their doctors are very specialized. You definitely need to call ahead and find out when a doctor who handles your type of injury is available. I went there without calling and there only a hand doctor in the office (my injury was in the lower part of my body), so I waited1.5 hrs for a Physican's Assistant to arrive. After you are seen at M&M by a particular doctor (or PA) you are expected to continue all further treatment with that person. When I tried to switch to a doctor who treated the part of the body that I had injured, that doctor told me I was 'doctor shopping' (his exact words). Turns out that the PA had given me some very bad advice. When a person goes to M&M OrthoXpress, I think he/she should be assigned to a doctor who handles that specialty for follow-up. You should not be made to feel like a second-class citizen when you try to go to a real doctor to look at your injury. I would have been much better off to have gone to the regular ER and then have made an appt at M&M with a doctor in the correct specialty. read more

I was very disappointed with this office today. Things seem to be changing there and not for the better. I phoned this afternoon for an appointment to bring my 37 yr. old handicapped daughter in for an xray. She had fallen boarding her bus at the day center she attends and will not weight bear on her left leg. She is a previous patient. She has a medicaid card and is covered under our Blue Cross and Blue Shield policy. I was told that because of the medicaid card we would have to go to the ER first and then they can only accept 1 medicaid patient a day. I was denied an appointment. We then phoned another orthopedic group and were told it was no problem. They did not accept medicaid either but the Blue Cross and Blue Shield policy would cover her visit. We were told to come over right away and were seen promptly. I guess we won't be visiting M&M orthopedic offices in the future. We used to joke about the way the phone used to be answered. Before we could even state our problem we would be asked how we would be paying. I guess even though they don't answer the phone that way anymore the bottom line is still the money and not compassionate patient care. read more
